Test Drive Meme 002

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Luggage Handling

The last carriage of the train is full of luggage. It’s all empty but there sure is a lot of it. Suitcases, old fashioned travelling trunks, rucksacks. And they are scattered everywhere, a safety concern to be sure.

Or perhaps the most fun place on the train, if you are thinking about it right. These cases could be anything, a fort, a bunker. How many can you stack up until they are too high to reach or they tumble down on top of you?

Let out your inner child and relieve some of the boredom of being stuck on a train by creating the luggage castle of your dreams, or step in before disaster strikes and attempt to bring some organisation to this chaos.

Scavenger Hunt

You’ve found yourself on a world that seems to be one huge scrap yard. At least all the parts you can see are and you aren’t the only ones there. A small fighter craft has crash landed here and the pilot needs help fixing their craft to get out of here!

Team One The parts needed must be around here somewhere! This place has all sorts and so it’s just a matter of trying to sort through all the junk to find what you are looking for.

Team Two Some parts from the actual ship are salvageable but it’s going to take a team to get this thing sky worthy again. Fix what can be fixed and get the craft ready for the spare parts that will hopefully be found.

Team Three This planet is not without its nuisances. Most prominent are some strange cyborg rats that have a taste for wiring. Fend them off before they get into the craft and render all the hard work undone.

A picnic with a view

Heroes deserve rewards every now and again and after a few days of protecting a settlement from strange shape shifting alien blobs there is a moment to relax before boarding the train once more.

What a place to relax in. High up on a cliff overlooking a vast plain of crystal stalagmites. The light of two suns reflects of them creating a dazzling prism mirror effect of colour, it’s almost like hovering above a sea of rainbows.

A picnic has been provided by some grateful villagers, the food is strange but delicious and a perfect way to unwind after a stressful few days.

Luggage Handling
[ You know what makes a luggage fort better? Webs. So many webs, in fact, that the luggage car door is half-stuck with them, and suitcases are spread across the carriage like stepping stones in the mess of white threads. Deep within the web, of course, lies a spider. The size of your average pony, this one is pure black with a skull-like white mark on her abdomen, spiked and with the odd feature of her front two legs being bladed. And she's having the time of her life.

Ahh, this is the life. Reclining in a bed of soft, nonstick threads, a pile of fresh fruit and cooked meats by her side ready to spear up into her waiting maw. And the luggage car is at the far end of the train, so no one's going to disturb her. Right? ]

Scavenger Hunt: Team Three
[ This world is seriously the worst. Sure, she was stoked for the robots and the spaceships after a few years of high fantasy, but there's nothing organic for miles, and she's hungry. Plus, these rats are harder to cut without any kind of augment for her scythe arms and are totally immune to poison. What gives?

So instead, she's taking pot-shots at the scurrying cyborgs with magic. Sometimes spears of earth, sometimes small flurries of wind, sometimes horrifying blasts of dark and shadow. If any of them get near her, she scurries around until a human is between them and her, and keeps blasting away. ]

Scavenger Hunt - Team One

This reminds Ignis of having to fetch all of those stones for Dino in Galdin Quay or the frogs for Sania. And going out and scavenging for things such as parts (Cid had put them to work doing such a task) was nothing out of the ordinary. So Ignis is out there looking for the parts needed to get the project underway.

It had taken him a bit but after some patience and luck, he'd managed to secure some parts. And after getting the last few, he shook his gloves and looked around. "Well, that's that, unless I've missed something?"

A picnic with a view -

The shapeshifting blobs resembled the flans that had been on a hunt poster. And as he's handed a plate full of food by a kindly villager, the tactician politely nods his thanks.

He heads up the cliff and is entranced by the crystal stalagmites and the way the light of the suns seem to bounce off of them in rainbows. This scenery should definitely be a photo in Prompto's collection. But then he looks down at his food and takes out a notebook and a pen.

"I daresay I could make this on the train."

Dining Carriage Not seeing anyone being able to properly take care of the food orders, Ignis somehow managed to take over the kitchen and meal preparation. He hadn't tried to, but he kept organizing and reorganizing the stores of food and making sure everything was properly washed until he tired of the entire thing. And since he was the one keeping track with making meticulous notes of what was needed, he basically got asked to take over.

He's got a list of new recipes to make due to all of this too, all neatly handwritten in notes, but right now he's looking for something very precious to him.

"Now where did I just put my coffee down?"

Scavenger Hunt:

When one grows up on an island made of the discarded items from the better part of the world, one learns how to navigate it. Even in the pair of heeled boots Evie was wearing. She knows where to step, where to be careful, and where to start lifting bits of junk to find what she needs.

She's also armed against the cyborg rats, a heavy piece of pipe in her hand that she's been using as a sort of club to smack them far away. She's been spending a lot of time in the gym carriage, learning all of the sports she can, so this might look like the moves of someone whos been practicing really hard.

There's one rat on the lower end of a piece of rusted metal, glaring up at Evie who glares down at the rat. The other end of that piece of metal is up high and to Evie, it looks a lot like a see-saw. Which she's going to use to her advantage.

Stomping her foot on the higher end sends the rat into the air, just at the right height for Evie to swing her pipe, connect, and send the rat into a large pile of garbage.

Said rat has decided he needs to be elsewhere, so off he scurries as Evie watches, one hand on her hip and the metal pipe on her shoulder. It's a glance downward when she finds one of the parts needed and soon she's crouched to move things off of it so she can pull that particular part out.

A picnic with a view.

It's later in the day and Evie's had time to get a shower and get changed into cleaner clothes before dinner. Whatever it was the villagers were cooking, it smelled amazing. While she couldn't identify any of it, she was too hungry to ask what was what. Instead, she can be found seated at one of the picnic benches, her plate of food containing a little bit of everything and the cup before her containing some kind of vibrant blue juice.

Literally no one that knows Evie should be surprised she went for the blue stuff, okay?

Also on the tabletop? Mal's spellbook, a notebook that belonged to Evie and a pencil. She's rewriting some of the more dangerous spells in hopes of making them safe and helpful, changing out ingredients in hopes of getting the desired effect.

[Like, two points on a scale of one to a hundred.]

[Which is why a visitor to the luggage car finds his head and shaking fist poking out from behind a wall of suitcases.]

The fortress-keep-in-absentia of Eblan will never fall to the likes of you!

[One might suspect that putting Edge onto the team most concerned with repairs, instead of seeking out lost objects or battling vicious creatures, will consign the entire venture to inevitable failure.]

[Surprisingly, this isn't true.]

[Kneeling under the fighter, Edge has his hands deep in its mechanical guts, poking and prodding and seeming to feel his way through rather than looking. His head tips left, then right, then he yanks one hand free.]

It had only taken a few visits to the luggage car on his exploration of the train before Conan couldn't stand the disorganization (and his own boredom) any more.

Slowly, he starts dragging the lighter suitcases and bags into some kind of order. The trunks he had to leave for now. He was fairly certain that some of them weighed more than he did right now.

Scavenger Hunt: Team One
Conan checks his list one more time, and eyes the part sitting on top of a precariously stacked pile of junk. If he'd still had his real height reaching it wouldn't be a problem. As it was, it was still a good meter above his head.

Which left him with only one option. He puts down his list and bag on the ground and carefully starts to climb the pile of junk.

Luggage Handling

Feanor had a very precise idea about exactly what he was looking for in the luggage department. The matter of if he'll be able to find it there was another thing altogether. What he wasn’t expecting in usually rather orderly arranged space was a veritable tower of suitcases wobbling with every shake of the moving train.

“Which one of you idiots thought it was such a brilliant idea?!”

There’s a very loud “Oh shit!” when the tower finally loses its battle with gravity and all the baggage comes raining down. Just where he’s standing. Hallowed speech of the Blessed Realm does not have many curses appropriate for such a situation. Fortunately, the former King of Noldor is a very fast learner, he picked up a lot of foreign ones and is currently putting that knowledge to good use.

Somebody help him get out.

Scavenger Hunt (Team Two)

To say that the ship is in bad condition is to say nothing at all. The thermal shields on the one side of the ship are charred and half melted. How did he know they were thermal shields? Dark, square, ceramic tiles covering all external surfaces of the vessel? What else they could be? Also being labeled as such in the ship's manual probably contributed to his understanding too.
The pilot wasn’t much help being, well, a pilot not a mechanic but at least was able to provide documentation for that thing.

“Hey, hold the flashlight for me, I need to check how bad it’s on the bottom of this wreck.”

Any doubts he knows what he’s doing? It’s a machine for the love of Eru. Nothing he cannot take apart and put back together given a couple of hours.

A picnic with a view

Feanor found himself a place to sit not far from the edge of the cliff so he could have a good view of the glimmering sea of colour below him. If could get a hold of at least a piece of this crystal….
That would require going down there to fetch it. Which is not a course of action he wants to pursue right now. Not after time like they just had. What kind of twisted imagination brought those monstrosities to life anyway? He had his share of horrors to fight in the past but those things here were no horrors. They were just ... disgusting.
Could it be the reason why he’s not eating now even if the food looks delicious? Or is it that his mind is completely elsewhere? Definitely not on a mundane reality of getting a meal.

Maybe he could only get one of the villagers to bring him a small sample...

Scavenger Hunt

Well, this is something he has never seen before. That such a small machine exists doesn't surprise him - they'd had plenty of magitek craft on the Source that were able to perform similar tasks as what was described to him, but nothing that looked like it. It doesn't put him off, to be sure, though he might have trouble finding the parts necessary, even if this world is full of piles and piles of odds and ends.

A picnic with a view

One certainty about himself he learned long ago was that he could never - or nearabout to be called such - say no to helping someone in need. Or, in this case, a village of people plagued by that strange creature. His time in honing his skills has granted him mastery over many healing and offensive and defensive magics, and he will put them to good use to protect who and what has need of his strength, such as it is.

The villagers are grateful, it seems, and willing to offer up a small feast of sorts. He hasn't the heart to insult their generosity and tell them he doesn't need it, so he takes a piece of fruit and settle himself against a rock on the cliff to look out over the crystal spires in wonder. They remind him of a place he knows only all too well, one he wonders if he will return to sooner or later.

Scavenger Hunt - 1 and 3

[ Hero. (A) Warrior of Light. Doormat.

In all seriousness, the whole... finding herself in a new place and immediately getting roped into menial tasks is so nostalgic, she could almost forget the whole "unable to get back home" thing. Almost. That being said, as much experience as she's had with such things, she's likewise had equal experience hiding any vexation between a calm, even cheerful countenance.

She can be found picking through the debris if you desire to approach her then, looking for the right finicky bit or bob that's needed. More like than not though, you'll find her on pest control. Whether you're preoccupied with your own work or being harassed, you might suddenly hear a call behind you. ]

On your left!

[ If you happen to look or jump away from the left, you'll be treated to a short figure literally twirling towards the rat in question - with deadly sharp chakram in each hand. If you happen to jump to the left instead... well there may be a painful and unfortunate collision instead. Oops. ]

Picnic

[ It was always nice to have a moment or two of quiet. It was nicer to have that moment or two with good food and such a wonderful view. Perhaps she ought to start penning a journal of gorgeous sights of her own, like those occasional few people she met on her journeys from place to place.

Her face will light up like a firefly at the prospect of company, and years as an archer plus those Plainsfolk ears mean her hearing is particularly sharp. Not that it's impossible, but it will be very difficult to sneak up on her unless one is actively trying. More often than not though, she'll turn to look at anyone approaching as soon as she notices them, eyes lighting up at the prospect of company.

Do you have something to say first? Or will the silence drag on long enough for her to need to be the one to break it? ]

[ooc; haven't picked a canonpoint but likely will be somewhere early to mid-ShB (from either the beginning of the expac with only DNC storyline to the level 75 dungeon, 77 dungeon at absolute latest) so around 73 content is what I'll be playing with here; I'll try to avoid any spoilers of substance but please let me know your comfort level and I'll do whatever what I can to oblige!

[ Eugene's Conduit abilities were pretty limited here. He could still fly with hardlight wings at will, that didn't tap him out. But constantly blasting rats with Video energy was starting to wear thin. The attacks weren't as strong over time and instead of chasing away the rats, it was just kind of irritating them.

So, he did the next best thing. He roared at them. This wasn't some wimpy angry nerdboy rage roar. This was his werewolf side coming out. Fangs and claws appeared, eyes turned that telltale glowing blue and the roar was enough to make the cyborg rats stop in fear, the majority of the massive horde of them turning tail and running.

Whatever the hell that was, they wanted none of it. Claws and fangs retract and Eugene Sims goes back to looking like the nerd he is a few seconds later. Turning to who he's working with, he asks;

Did you find that emitter they asked for, yet?

[Picnic with a view ]

[ It's later on and Eugene's sitting some distance away from the party, back pressed against a tree as he balances a plate on his knee, the young man seated on the ground. It wasn't that he didn't want to be part of the party. From where he was, it was still close enough to be considered part of things.

It was just the noise if it. There were a lot of sounds, and a lot of smells, and he was kinda tired. It was overwhelming, if he were going to be honest. But people having fun always brought a smile to his face, and they'd done a good thing today.

He was feeling pretty damn good about this visit. There was one particular guest he was keeping an eye on, a short, round man who was really fond of the ale he was serving and was telling stories to whoever would listen. The more he drank, the more slurred his stories became, and Eugene was amused by this. Tapping the leg of the person sitting nearest to him, he points the man out who was in the middle of a very big yawn.

Ple Two | Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ

[personal profile] pleple 2019-07-23 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Arrival

Ple Two is hardly even aware of what a steam engine is, the technology is so dated in an era where much of the human species' population lives in little metal cylinders orbiting Earth. The marvel of Minovsky's nuclear fusion reactor has made electricity the norm in almost all facets of everyday life, especially for those living in space, and she can only barely parse what she's even looking at at first.

And that's because she has no idea what she's doing here. Your dying thoughts should at least contain concepts you're familiar with, right? But here it is, some centuries-outdated technology on a piece of mass transit that wants her to board, after she'd just... almost died? Actually died? It's not even resistance to the idea that has her waiting until the strange device on her wrist flashes orange. Confusion. Fear of the unknown. Wondering what's happened to Judau. Glemy... died, didn't he?

There's probably no better place to assess the situation, so a very serious looking eleven year old staggers onto the train, looking side to side for someone to accost. "You. What is this place? What is that machine?"

Scavenger Hunt - Team Two

Regardless of the color of Ple Two's team... team one is lifting a bunch of junk, and she's eleven. There's a lot she's capable of, and she's confident in so very many ways, but the human body can only go so far. Team three is fighting, and while she's ready to stomp on some roborats if they get past that team, she's much more comfortable with some kind of mobile suit.

That left the repair crew. While she was no mechanic, any good mobile suit pilot should have some idea of how a machine works, just for the sake of popping a few wires back in place. Now she just needs people to take her seriously. "I promise you, I'm not an idiot and I'm not going to get myself electrocuted." Which they didn't say, but she's heading them off with an attitude.

The hell's a picnic?

...this is like the most fanciful visions of other planets. Humanity refuses to venture even past Jupiter, only going so far out of absolute necessity, and yet here she is... riding a train to systems, galaxies, universes beyond imagining.

While everyone back home just wants to keep fighting over Earth, killing each other in the vicinity of Earth, and ruining Earth. Ignoring the picnic almost entirely, she just... sits. Staring out at the crystals, catching glimpses of the twin suns stoking a light show that Ple Two would have just ignored for most of her short life, it's hard not to ponder the meaning of life in a very unchildlike way.

Maybe, just maybe, her own reality's humanity will find their way out here before destroying themselves.

[ ooc: Or make something up. Fair warning that anyone psychic will get some definite pings from her, but they'll be a bit unnatural and distorted. ]

Maglor isn't the metalsmith much of his family is, though he's good enough when he sets his mind to it. This time around he'd much rather protect the ship by hunting for the metal rats that are so intent on eating what they need to fix the ship. Being light on one's feet comes in handy (though makes him miss Celegorm and Curufin-as-they-were just a bit more).

He's perched on top of a nearby pile of scraps, hidden both by craft and by shadows from the small menaces until he spies a handful of them and pounces, sweeping a rather heavy (for most) pipe at them to send them flying.

Picnic with a view

One would think, just after a somewhat interesting couple days as as guard, one would want to just relax and rest, doing nothing but eat, right? For one elf, plucking away at a small gold harp would normally be relaxing enough. But the faint grimace as he mutters to himself hints otherwise. "Still sounds thready, but good enough, I suppose..."

Yes, he has a delicious basket of food just to one side of him, but he's clearly more focused on the music he's working on perfecting (to most people it would sound perfectly beautiful and nothing wrong about it at all). The small trickle of blood from his right hand is ignored in favor of adjusting strings.

He'd just as soon be one of the team who will be fixing the ship, but he's good at identifying materials and devices and so he thinks he can best contribute his efforts in the junk heaps, for now.

He is squeezing between a couple of units that look like servers when he stumbles, drops his tool kit, hops over it to keep from falling down, and steps on something sharp. "Ouch!"

Picnic:

Curufin lounges on the cliff top, enjoying the view of the crystals, as they glitter in the sun. He picks up a glass of wine and toasts whoever is up there with him. "To journeys! May they always be as successful. And may the alien blobs go and blob somewhere else!"

He might be lacking a hand, but Maedhros is still a mighty presence. The rats will know when he has hit them and if they survive the blows, they will be left twitching and sparking. If he were younger, he might try to take the monstrosities apart to see how they worked, but he is too tired and too distracted for that now. So hopefully you don't mind the dull thud of him sweeping the pests into the walls or outright crushing them against the floor.

"Hecal!" he has the sort of voice that booms, but the majority of the time he doesn't use it to its full potential, "What gave you the right for this infestation?"

A Picnic with a View

Sitting still hurts and though his eyes are dazzled by the crystals, he paces, taking a bite of food occasionally. His brow is furrowed and his scarred expression is as dark as a thunderhead; Maedhros Fëanorian has not shared in revelries in centuries. He arranged some of the softer bits of luggage into an impromptu couch and then sprawled on top of it. He let all his worries fade away, focused on all the fatigue in his body, let all the tension leave his muscles, closed his eyes, and absolutely failed to fall asleep.

When in doubt blame it on someone else, even if they weren't really making THAT much noise.

"Hey, can you keep it down over there!?"

Scavenger Hunt team one

Peter made a desultory attempt to sort through the bits of junk and crashed fighter jet.

"Goober...gizmo...junk...junk...that looks important..."

He tossed the bit that looked important over his shoulder into a small pile of other things that looked important. If you looked through the pile you'd see that they did all look to be parts that might go into a fighter jet but...man, his heart was not in it.

Picnic

"Oh god...I don't know what's in this sandwich but I'm loving it..."

Hey look, Peter can occasionally look not grumpy about everything! He's sitting RIGHT on the edge of the cliff, with his feet dangling over the massive drop onto spikey doom far below and kicking idly has he munches away on the victory feast with every sign of enjoyment.

When he was troubled, Will liked to go walking outside. The familiarity and the solitude of it helped, somehow. But here on a train there was nowhere for him to go. Seeking a space to be alone, he eventually ends up in the baggage car.

Here, too, there was a kind of familiarity, to the attic at home he had claimed for his own space. It had the same jumble of disorganized and forgotten things. With a small nostalgic grin he climbs up on one of the larger trunks and surveys the space.

On the Train
Will spends a great deal of time staring out the window at the void and thinking. He knew how his own universe worked. He was a piece of that working himself, and he had known the power that kept the stars burning and the planets on their courses. But the very existence of the void was proof to him that he was terribly far away from home.

What power balanced the universe here?

Scavenger Hunt: Team One
Will stares about the junkyard rather hopelessly. He was here to help, and even wished to do so. But he was a creature of magic, and before that he had been a country boy more interested in feeding the rabbits and playing with the dogs than in learning the ins and outs of mechanics.

What could he do here?

He gives the list another puzzled look, and then turns back to the piles of junk. Perhaps if he tried to organize it by shape?

Scavenger Hunt/ Team 1 and 3

While he sort of saw the point of this task, he hadn't been thrilled with it. Seeing all the junk and grime, he'd asked if there were work gloves. Of course there weren't. So, that meant reaching in and just hoping you didn't slice your fingers on all this scrap metal.

He heard some skittering not too far away that he assumed were rats. Little did he know what rats on this world actually looked like.

"It's a good thing I've had a tetnus shot recently!"

Luggage Handling
When trapped on a train to anywhere, once punching through the walls doesn't work, the next logical step is to find the train's limits and resources. That exploration has led Bruce to the last carriage and the luggageageddon that had buried a nameless passenger until Bruce unearthed them.

Left on his own, he's tetrising the various bags into safer stacks, although in a possibly slightly mean move, those stacks go all the way to the ceiling with luggage firmly wedged in to make removal a challenge.

Look, he's not exactly happy to be here.

Scavenger Hunt - Team Three
Yes, there's a visceral satisfaction to stomping cyborg rats, and Bruce is doing his job with gusto if not glee, but it's not enough to stomp them when they just keep coming in waves, they need a way to repel them before they have to be destroyed.

"Hey," he calls to anyone who'll bother to answer. "Anybody got a high voltage power supply or sparklefingers? Give me some of that wiring and some electricity and I have an idea."

scavenger hunt.

[The elf found himself on a team that was looking for parts. He wasn't familiar with anything they were tasked to find but he would still try his best to figure out what he was looking for. He pulled up his long hair into a ponytail, deciding that if he was going to be sifting through piles of stuff, he might as well have it out of his way.

He made his way through the piles in the junkyard, carefully stepping around questionable areas. That's when he spotted what he believed was a needed part. It was just out of reach but that didn't mean he wasn't going to try to get it. He could get it if he climbed the pile carefully, thankful that he was lighter than Men. But the pile still wobbled under his weight as he reached for the part.

That was a bad idea. The pile came down, sending him landing on the ground with parts around him. He had lost what he was looking for and now was sitting on the ground with a mess around him.]

That didn't go well.
