Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

Luggage Handling

The last carriage of the train is full of luggage. It’s all empty but there sure is a lot of it. Suitcases, old fashioned travelling trunks, rucksacks. And they are scattered everywhere, a safety concern to be sure.

Or perhaps the most fun place on the train, if you are thinking about it right. These cases could be anything, a fort, a bunker. How many can you stack up until they are too high to reach or they tumble down on top of you?

Let out your inner child and relieve some of the boredom of being stuck on a train by creating the luggage castle of your dreams, or step in before disaster strikes and attempt to bring some organisation to this chaos.

Scavenger Hunt

You’ve found yourself on a world that seems to be one huge scrap yard. At least all the parts you can see are and you aren’t the only ones there. A small fighter craft has crash landed here and the pilot needs help fixing their craft to get out of here!

Team One The parts needed must be around here somewhere! This place has all sorts and so it’s just a matter of trying to sort through all the junk to find what you are looking for.

Team Two Some parts from the actual ship are salvageable but it’s going to take a team to get this thing sky worthy again. Fix what can be fixed and get the craft ready for the spare parts that will hopefully be found.

Team Three This planet is not without its nuisances. Most prominent are some strange cyborg rats that have a taste for wiring. Fend them off before they get into the craft and render all the hard work undone.

A picnic with a view

Heroes deserve rewards every now and again and after a few days of protecting a settlement from strange shape shifting alien blobs there is a moment to relax before boarding the train once more.

What a place to relax in. High up on a cliff overlooking a vast plain of crystal stalagmites. The light of two suns reflects of them creating a dazzling prism mirror effect of colour, it’s almost like hovering above a sea of rainbows.

A picnic has been provided by some grateful villagers, the food is strange but delicious and a perfect way to unwind after a stressful few days.

Caranthir eyes Curufin beadily.

"I call you one because you are." He grumbles. "What kind of fool doesn't look where he's putting his feet? How the hell did you survive as long as you did?"

OOOH, THOSE DISAPPROVING EYES!!!

"I was trying to step over some junk. And it seems I stepped on something. . . " He looks down at his foot. There's a slash in the leather. "My mistake, wearing my thinner Elf-boots instead of my big forge stompers. Heh, let me sit down and take a look."

He sits down on top of a big box and pulls his boot off. Yep, he got cut all right. Ouch, and ouch again.

"I survived about an hour longer than you did, Moryo," he says, with a humorous sidelong glance.

HE CAN STILL TURN YOU OVER HIS KNEE BRAT!

He sighs. "Let me see." He orders, and harumphs as he checks to make sure there's nothing actually serious.

He glares at the reminder. "I'm sure I don't know how." He snaps.

LET HIM TRY! THEY'LL HAVE A WRESTLING MATCH. XD

He wriggles his toes to make sure they still work. Yes, it's just a cut, though there is blood soaking through his sock. He pulls that off, too. "You don't happen to have your First Aid kit with you, do you?" he asks.

Well! He can certainly understand the glare. Curufin often thinks of Doriath, but he doesn't often talk about it. "It was pure determination," he says, with a quiet smile.

And get blood everywhere? How gauche!

Caranthir gives him another unimpressed look, reaching for his kit.

"Someone has to carry it, considering you apparently don't." He snaps, more acerbic than normal for the reminder of how they died.

Not anymore gauche than spanking your grown-up little brother!

"No, I brought my tool kit instead. But I have to admit that a hammer doesn't serve for all emergencies."

Cararanthir, it was YOU WHO BROUGHT IT UP.^^

S-SHUT UP B-BAKA.

He snorts and douses the cut liberally with alcohol.

"You and your tools. I suppose you won't get bored at least."

Moryo apparently speaks Japanese as well as Quenya, Sindarin and Khuzdul. XD

Curufin winces, but not very much. This is nothing compared to the injuries he remembers from the Wars of Beleriand and the Second Kinslaying.

"Me and my tools, yeah." He chuckles. "What about you, did you bring anything special from home? Besides the emergency kit?"

Moryo swears in Khuzdul, it's not quite the same thing.

"No." Cut clean, he checks to make sure it doesn't need stitches. "Who has time to carry heavy items? I brought what was needful."

And who can blame him? Khuzdul is a WONDERFUL language to curse in. It is an experience not to be missed.

Thank goodness the cut doesn't need stitches, if Caranthir hasn't brought his embroidery needles! "What did you bring?"

"Necessities." He grumbles, as he bandages the foot.

"Like bandages. And food."

Curufin watches Caranthir bandage his foot, with a fond smile.

"You're such a practical guy," he chuckles.

"Someone has to be." He retorts. "The rest of you are utter disasters at having common sense, clearly."

Even Maedhros, as he has now discovered. HE IS DISAPOINT. He had thought Nelyo, at least, had sense. Clearly he was wrong.

"Oh well, being a disaster is a skill, like any other. It takes practice to overcome common sense." He smiles lovingly.

Poor Caranthir! Fated always to be brother to such people as Maedhros and Curufin!

You are all terrible and he hates you. lies

"Clearly not, as you were a disaster from the day you were born." Caranthir grumbles as he packs away the bandages.

Snicker.

Curufin gingerly slides his foot back into the boot and ties the laces in such a way that the tear in the boot leather does not gap. He'll fix it later, when he has time to scrounge up the right tools and materials.

"Oh, really?" He grins. "You mean you were wasting your time, all those hours you spent hovering over my cradle and singing me lullabies, and later on, letting me toddle along with you wherever you went and pummel you with questions, every one of which you answered with loving patience?"

Caranthir glares at him, and clearly contemplates answering "yes"

"I only answered because you wouldn't shut up." He elects for in the end.

"True, I was an importunate little rugrat. Moryo, why does the stream run downhill and not uphill? Why do the fish have scales? Why do the fish taste fishy? Why don't the squirrels fall out of the trees and break their necks? Why do birds fly? Why do horses have four legs? Not a chance of shutting me up!"

He pulls a face.

"As noisy as ever." He grumbles. "You can find your own answers, this time."

Curufin chuckles. "Oh well, I did get answers to those questions. Because you answered them. And now I still have a million questions, but they're mostly a lot harder to answer than my childish questions were!"

He stands up and puts his weight on the injured foot. It hurts, but not much. He'll be able to walk on it. And he smiles at his grumbly older brother.

"Didn't you even have questions like that? I guess if you did, you'd have pestered Tyelko and Kano and Nelyo with them. Or did you just figure it all out yourself?"

"Hmph."

Caranthir watches him with a critical eye, nodding when Curufin walks on it.

"I know how to use a library." He snaps gruffly.

Curufin gives his brother a kindly look, for taking such good care of Curufin in the past and in the present.

"I know you do. I helped you study for your mastery, remember?" He had come to the library to "help" his brother, clambering up on a chair and sitting down at the big table with his crayons and paper, chattering and asking questions and making flash cards out of the answers Moryo gave him.

"'Help'. Yeah." Caranthir rolls his eyes, remembering. But despite the growl, the cuff is fond.

"How's the foot." He changes subject, not wanting to dwell on the mushy stuff.

"Some of those flashcards were for you, remember? And you aced your exam." So, it must have been Curvo's 'help' that was responsible, right? He grins at his brother's eye roll and tries unsuccessfully to dodge the cuff. It makes him laugh.

"My foot is all right. It doesn't hurt very much, and you did an excellent job of bandaging it. I'm sure it will heal quickly."

Caranthir eyes him beadily, trying to work out if he's being flippant to hide pain.

"Hmph." He opinions, electing to trust that Curufin is fine.

"We had best find you a proper healer, just in case."
