Here is the information for those who are taking part in the player plot for digging deeper into the train data and missing files/memories. I believe there is a log planned and people can pick and chose from this list which things their character learned and came across. You can use this post to plot that if you wish.

If you have any more questions or anything specific you want to look further into please feel free to ask. They won't be able to pry any deeper into the missing time and efforts to do so will result in the train yelling 'find them' and blocking them out for a time. However this is leading into our next event, for which information will be available soon!

As they already sort of knew the train isn't purely a machine, but nor is it magical/spiritual or alive in any way that they would understand it. It is a good thing that they have both those who are good at technology and programming and those who understand magic and energy because even with both of those sets of knowledge the train is weird.

It doesn't fight them and they come up against no firewalls or defences. The trust has already been established and so they are able to enter into the files.

General Workings

~ For those who know machines or programs they will find a complex machine. It keeps records of everything from air temperature to movement of passengers. A lot of this is background information- records of shop purchases, records of ICP use. Each voidtrecker has a file that gives the basics- which system they are from, species, age, team, any allergies or medical conditions.

~ The actual running of the train seems to be fully programmed/mechanical. Programs for air purification, water, heating and other life-necessary processes. There are also programs for translation and for general passenger safety. All of these life-important programs are essentially 'read only'. Those poking will not be able to change anything about any of it but the train will let them see.

~ There are comms and radio systems- some are clearly 'off line' or not connected to anything. There are sensors for outside the craft and programs for taking mission calls.

~ As for the actual 'language' of the train- there is a digital language that their SCA will translate into a digital/programming language that they understand. But this is very surface level. Indeed whilst connected to the train and trying to gather data they will learn that the train communicates on an almost emphatic level. It doesn't so much speak to them like it does using the communication program they are used to, but ideas, images and concepts are conveyed. Even those who do not have the spiritual/mental/magical sensing and are just coming at this project from a scientific/coding direction will be able to understand this whilst connected to the train.

~ Getting deeper will require those who can sense energy. The train is connected, to them, to golden strands that can be understood as tethers. Some on the train some spiralling into the void, disappearing into the unknown. If those who can read energy, souls, spirits or magic or anything else that allow them to dip into this part of things they will feel that they might be able to dig deeper, follow those threads... However if they try they will soon become overwhelmed.

They will feel that they are everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. All of a sudden before them is the void. Before them, beneath them, above them. A vast endless everything that threatens to consume them, raging at their minds.

Then through all this chaos there are lights. Glowing lights, trails of lights. Some vanish, into the distance, tantalisingly out of reach. Others lead to solid light, some close some far. It's overwhelming, both in the scope but also the feeling, pain, fear, love, joy, grief. Everything washes through them, filling them and raging through them like the currents of an ocean. The trails are almost impossible to follow, tangled and pulsing, moving, never being still.

Then for a split second they see. Everything. The train,the endlessness of the void, a deep nothingness. Looking out of the eyes of every single voidtrecker, simultaneously. A burst of images and a cacophony of sounds. They are everyone, in every soul.


It will be enough to cause them a great and deep exhaustion which will last throughout the day. It might be best to focus on other information...

Memories

~ There are logs- some of which the passengers have already seen and others they have not. They are scrambled but with enough people who know programming and computers they can restore them. There are voice and video recordings of old crew. Some are very factual others are more whimsical. It is clear throughout them that these are more than just diaries that the old crew kept, that they are speaking directly to the train through them.

~ Using those who can communicate in a more emotive sense with the train will add some context- snippets of scenes explained in those journals seen through the eyes of those who wrote them. Some are clearly different than what was written- an argument spoken with great bias in a journal entry is shown to be far more complicated when witnessed. All these moments are hazy and don't last long, the train will claim it is difficult to manifest such memories like this.

~ There are years and years of entries- each year has a different set of words and once the month gets to a word beginning with Z it returns to A. There are regular gaps where it can be assumed people weren't on the train- often followed by mission reports. Most entries stop at Beetroot 5 except the few entries from Beetroot 12 that have already been shared with passengers.

~ Looking at other data they will see that on Beetroot 5 there is a communication from system #1015 asking for void help- specifically voidtrecker help. A commander explains that the system is under threat from a robot army. No one is particularly sure of where they came from - if it is another unknown planet in their system or through the void. The voidtrecker express responds with a mission.

~ The early mission data is not unlike the many other sets of mission data they will be able to find. Comm logs, runs of vitals from SCAs. But then on beetroot 12 every alarm and threat system they have been able to get access to shows an alert. There is a return to the void and then a list of lost voidtreckers- seventy eight remain. Forty of them are red team, twenty three are blue, thirteen are orange and two purple. They will recognise some names from the logs they have. Vian Tail as junior blue lead is the de-facto leader.

~ Looking at the data after the time stamp of this log there are attempts to alter part of the core coding of the voidcraft. This is where it gets fuzzy, any attempt to work out exactly what was done will lead to the train yelling at them to FIND THEM.

~ The next data after that seems to be a complete reset. No passengers. The train is a lot smaller- only one sleeper cabin, the stores and kitchens, standard, quiet, dressing and luggage carriages. The programs seem almost simpler and it is easy to find core commands. Find Heroes and Save Worlds.

~ Those trying a more emotional/magical/spiritual path to figuring things out will see the third memory here and then - correlating with the reset of physical data, the first memory. There is no indication of time that passes from one to the other.

~ Those that help out will find that they are tireder than usual over the next few days- not as exhausted as after anchoring but it will be early bedtimes all round! Their sleep is often broken by either this dream or this one.

Following the train's recent answering session, some nerds have gotten together with the big idea of wanting to help the train. There's the question of what's going on with the train's missing memories surrounding what happened to its crew, and helping the train has always been difficult. Nobody understands what makes the train tick, and how can you help the train when you can't get to its engine room? You access a backdoor with permission from the train, and have it show you files so that you can try to decipher exactly how it works - and invite everyone to come help.

HOW? WHAT?
    There will be a network post inviting computer-touching types and also those with energy-reading expertise, and also memory/seer-type gifts to join in on the project. There will be two approaches (simplified): Using computers and a scientific approach to deciphering how the train's data is formulated, and - while also using VR tech to create a projection - also allowing more energy/vision-based gifts to help explore the data to understand it. This is to allow more than scientific-nerds to get onboard. And come on, the train is very special: this is a good chance for scientific and spiritual nerds to come together, and for everyone to help out.


WHEN? WHERE?
    This will be taking place over a period of time, between the April and May events. The upstairs game carriage will be used for these sessions to allow for room (just move aside the giant blocks, nobody needs them, right), and anyone willing to help is free to come along. Laptop screens can be projected, as well as the data shared by the train. This will be a group effort, and it may be able to help with other problems - such as the tethers, and how to find those lost. Who knows! First, there must be research.

SIDE PROJECT
    An idea will be to offer energy to the train to potentially help it, but it will be cagey about this. However, making a battery to store energy that can be used in the future would be good - if for the train, or for void tears. Tidus is interested in this after speaking with Edge, and a project is a project! If anyone has ideas for this, feel free to share them!

Prior to April 1st/next platform day, Elidibus will be aiming to gather a collective of people to turn the rock garden car once more into a seasonal display. Provided nothing about the mission conclusion changes things that is! While not yet discussed with mods, will be requesting this to last about two to three IC days.

Update! Has been approved by mods along with having it run multiple days.

Update II An overview and a list of ideas presented.
The basic groundwork will provided; earth to plant/grow things in, protections to make sure the regular features of the rock garden that aren't converted for the setting will be preserved (memorials, existing crafts and cards, etc) regardless of the 'weather', a pseudo climate and seeds for the desired flowers/grass/trees/bamboo(also a grass iirc?)/etc. Ideas and activities, both pre garden days, during and even post so far offered are listed below. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

  • Flower pots- People who have personal flowers bringing them for display. Or harvesting some of the flowers to place into pots (if available) for a memory if people like.
  • Spring Decorations (arts and crafts)
  • Potpurri/extracts
  • collecting petals and drying them/making extracts/etc after the three day Spring Day is at an end (or doing it!)
  • Netting/mesh around the carriage for many of the decorations, etc.
  • Holographic Displays, possibly to make the garden seem more 'extended' beyond the walls. Or for other things!
  • Blankets, pillows, picnic atmosphere and food.
  • A selection of books on a covered table so people don't have to go to the library.
  • Growing fruit trees (cherry, peach, plum, oranges for example) and maintaining their grow so they go from flowering blossoms to pickable fruit to harvest on the final day. (probably modest amounts given size of car/etc but probably enough that everyone can have a bit of something!)
  • growing flowers, especially spring-themed ones (daffodils, primrose, tulips, etc)
  • Garden arrangement/flow/zen! (Suggested by Sanzo with willingness to teach about it!)
  • Roland is willing to sort of head/suggest/ICly implement egg painting and possible egg hunt, easter style.
  • The possibility of chocolates and candies being ordered/baked/etc.
  • Roland's higgledies will be helping to maintain the grounds, etc (so that things like over-traffic don't turn things to mud/etc, maybe collecting fallen petals for later drying/extract?) May or may not be seen.
  • Supplies for sketching or painting while in the spring garden will probably be brought in.
  • Music! Either someone bringing instruments from the music carriage and doing impromptu stuff or playing music on devices!

    If I've missed something in this list, it's probably my bad memory or I missed it. Please let me know!

    Snow Day Garden was something I assembled in haste in a couple days before the Platform Day. This time Elidibus will have more IC time to preplan and I also want to include more people who might be interested, particularly some of our plant ability/nature/weather themed folk!

    Edit! Just to be clear, anyone's welcome to participate, not just plant ability/nature/etc themed folk! Sorry if I didn't make that clear earlier! See: Tidus's ideas for folk with nonmagical contributions! There will also be a pre-planning IC log going up post mission if anyone wants to scene something about the preparations.

    Because he is still recovering from events during his trip home, he will be doing a more supervisory/assembly role this time. But he will approach the people he knows that can help him set this up and can learn of/network/connect with others ICly.

    The theme will be Spring. I have loose notions of fusion of cherry blossoms, picnic spots, fresh new grass, daffodils, tulips, and primrose. A weather 'climate' of 'sun and light breezes' with a hint of rain as if it recently rained or is going to soon (though don't look up at the 'sky' too long, it only diminishes the presence of the kaledioscope of voidspace and its built-in rainbow, not completely covers it.

    Also any ideas would be fantastic!

    Heya VoidTreckers!

    So, Thanatos has in his possession a set of transgates that he would like to set up on the train to help people get to places faster. This would only be active whenever there is no mission going on. He'll be bringing them with him on missions. (Although, if it's popular, I can see Than buying a second set and just donating the set for permanent train.)

    OOCly, I'm thinking of sticking one in Coach C: the gym and Luggage.

    The gym gate provides quicker access to the front of the train while not getting in the way of medical (Coach D) or kitchen going ons. The luggage is closer to the sleeper cabins, triage, and at the back end of the train.

    ICly, Thanatos doesn't know where they should go because he's a teleporting cheater and doesn't have a problem with the length of the train. If you want to thread something out, you can bug Than here, but otherwise, I'm okay with handwaving that someone told him the best locations.

    Thoughts? Questions? Want to add gates to the mix? Let's help the poor souls who have to walk the train.


    EDIT: So it looks like we have 4 sets of gates for this which is enough for a gate about every 5 cars during non-mission times.

    SUPPLIES


    ABOUT
      These are supplies that have been collected for use during missions, from healing, weaponries, defence, food, and other useful items. These are stored and audited by Tidus and Roland Crane.

      An audit list can be found in the standard coach and luggage car, so people know what's available and if they want to know what they can donate. Food is stored in hammerspaces to keep it fresh!

      Before missions and during, people are encouraged to come collect what they like, a selection freely laid out for people to take what there is. However, items are tracked and will be asked to be returned (if not, of course, used). This doesn't mean you need to track what your character uses, esp in terms of potions. Though, give us a heads-up on what equipment a person borrows!

      Additional lunchboxes and sports bottles can also be found in the storage car for anyone to take without asking. With thanks to Piccolo!

      People are encouraged to add to the lot, whether it be medical, defence, weaponry, food for missions, or so forth. If your character can offer anything, please go to the bottom and let me know in the comments!
    NOTES
      ACCESS: While you will need to speak to one of the listed people above, anyone has access, technically! Just let us know if there's anything your character may ask about while on-board, it can be handwaved.

      DURING MISSIONS, items are encouraged to be taken for the various teams. The supplies are held onto by those who manage them, but medical supplies are usually deposited at any available camps, if they exist.

      HEALERS: While anyone is free to take healing, small bags with extra potions, elixirs, remedies, and salves will be given to anyone who says they're a healer. Ethers will be thrown in if they're a magical healer! Bottles usually come in no bigger sizes than these.

      BIG EATERS: There's a note for anyone with big appetite to take some lemba slices to help with their metabolism. Each bite of this bread replenishes one's stamina - a single slice can keep you going for an entire day. Some are made available in the kitchens too.

      WEAPONS: These are kept away from the other supplies, and are closely guarded. You will have to ask Tidus or Roland for access. Any weapons requiring ammo will need to use an arms band as there is no ammo in storage.

      ON BOARD: Potions (from standard to the elixirs) are donated also to the medical carriages. Potions can be administered orally, but also work by being 'splashed' over an individual - it turns into energy and becomes 'absorbed' into the body. Final Fantasy, man.

      Arms Bands: Those handling team supplies, medical aid, willing to scavenge and gather materials have first priority.
