Test Drive Meme 013

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

Training Gym

Fight club have finally gotten a gym to train in. Train carriages make strange gyms, long narrow spaces. But this has mats, balance beams, climbing apparatus. Pads and training dummies for punching. It also has large blocks that look a little like what you might find in a children's play centre but can be used to make obstacle courses or provide cover in training exercises.

Set up a course, practice fighting or try and learn how to throw a punch! There are plenty who will help, people who take training super seriously and let's face it, people who want to ambush others from behind oversized foam blocks.

Games

For those for whom fighting is not an idea of fun, or those wanting more relaxation, the games carriage has a whole collection of different games. Board games, card games, dice games. There are many games about trains but they aren't the only type.

There are low tables in the carriage to set a game up on and plenty of beanbags and cushions to sit on. Grab a game, grab a friend or a complete stranger and get playing!

Water Maze

The latest mission has taken the voidtreckers to an underwater maze. They have been given wet suits, helmets and breathing apparatus- lightweight boxes that strap to their back, connect to their helmet and filter air from the water. A powerful and dangerous artifact has been stolen and the race is on to get it back before it is used for ill.

Team One

Plenty of monsters and foes have been sent to try and retrieve the item. Giant crabs, strange eels. Even people with fish tails and the ability to breathe underwater. All are dangerous foes and fighting underwater is difficult.

But team one are the vanguard, keeping the monster levels low to allow team two to push on through the maze.

Team Two

Hopefully team one will deal with the monsters, but the odd one might sneak through. Team two's main job is to solve the maze, because the thief is in the centre in order to perform his ritual.

It's a race against time, the maze is made of coral and walls of seaweed that are impossible to cut through. Solving it requires a quick mind and some determined swimming.

Team Three

For those not wishing to brave the water, or those whose skills lie more in helping others. The island where the artefact was stolen from needs help. The temple was ransacked and some of the islanders were injured. Help them fix their homes, put the temple back to rights, tend to the injured.

Cleaning the temple is a big job, but hopefully by the time the artefact has been retrieved it will be able to be restored to it's rightful place.

that, that — xiao xingchen feels the hair on the back of his neck stand up and he whirls around, of course he's left the punching bag still half swinging and it swings back and forth, smacking into the cultivator lightly.

it really breaks the tense atmosphere as xiao xingchen stumbles a little from the impact. ]

I was merely training. [ because it is only polite to answer, and he's not — ] It's not anger, I wasn't ... I wasn't even hitting it that hard! [ younger, xiao xingchen is a little petulant; younger, xiao xingchen has no reason to be truly wary of xue yang. ]

[Xue Yang watches the awkwardness with interest. It's interesting to see a Xingchen without a blindfold. To see the eyes again after many years of knowing what happened to them. It's like seeing his sins erased.]

And of all the things in here to chose to train, you chose to beat up a bag?

[ xiao xingchen is wary but he is trusts himself to be able to keep xue yang from causing trouble. (...ha ha) ]

I thought that was the point of the bag. What do you suggest I use for training then?

[ it's not like he can stab the bag with shuanghua... ]

[He looks around the room, not particularly interested in what it has to offer but certainly there is something of interest.]

I suppose that depends on what it is you want to train. Each of these items have a different body part I think they are supposed to help.

I don't believe you need the practice. [ LISTEN... he's maybe a bit salty to find xue yang here and not song lan. ] Unless you're planning on doing something here. [ oh and isn't that alarming? but then, if he's here now, xingchen should be able to keep xue yang from...

...well, from being xue yang. ]

[That shouldn't be hard since Xue Yang is on a road to redemption now that Xingchen is here. Even if he can't remember the years at Yi City, Xue Yang does.]

I'm content to just watch you see which of these things suit you.

[ luckily, beyond murdering a few small clans, xiao xingchen has no personal reason to dislike xue yang. yet. ]

Why? [ he's suspicious though. very suspicious. ] There is nothing for you to gain by watching me. In fact, why are you here?

I was bored.

[Which is not a lie. He has gotten bored with wandering the train and Xingchen provides him with amusement.]

I thought perhaps you could entertain me.

[ the laugh that escapes him at those words is genuine and startling to xiao xingchen, his eyes widen as if he had not expected someone like xue yang to make him laugh. at all.

he presses his lips together. then tries (and fails) to sound severe: ]

I am not your entertainment.

[He is amused but that laugh even if the other appears flustered by it.]

You've already been entertaining so apparently you are.

I cannot arrest you here, but do not think I will let you get away with being - with being - [ this is baby xiao xingchen, when faced with an older, more mature xue yang... he must look as naive and young and inexperienced as he had been when they first met. rather than refined and controlled, those are clearly a facade xiao xingchen used, a mask he wore in his own manner. ]

I am not here for you to tease me.

[He laughs and folds his arms in front of his chest.]

You make that so easy, Daozhang.

[Inwardly he is flinching. He wants this to go so much better then it is. But it is hard to not just fall right into his old ways. He shouldn't squander this chance to be by Xingchen's side again.]

Please..proceed with your training. I won't say another word.

[ just to be utterly petulant and contrary, childish even, xiao xingchen does not continue training. he folds his arms and stares at xue yang with suspicion. it would be funny if their shared history were not so stained by blood and pain - well, xue yang's past and xiao xingchen's future. ]

I don't see how I make it easy for you to tease.

And yet you seemed riled by what I've said. And isn't that what the outcome of teasing is supposed to be? Which means even with barely trying I've gotten you to that point.

[Xingchen is too pure. And purity is the easiest target.]

I am not riled. [ except he is, and he seems to understand that by denying it he is merely confirming what xue yang is saying. xiao xingchen turns pink and then looks away. ]

I won't let you rile me up. Anyway, you haven't explained how you came to be here. You should be in Qinghe, under the judgement of Chifeng-zun. [ that is because you didn't ask xue yang this, xiao xingchen.... ]

[He lays down on the mats that he has camped out on and puts his hands behind his head.]

That's didn't really last very long. Besides, no matter where I was apparently I was destined to end up here.

[ xiao xingchen circles around him, looking down and suspiciously at xue yang. he's clearly looking to see if jiangzai is somewhere at hand and whether he ought to fetch shuanghua or not. ]

So, you're escaping your punishment by being here?

[He holds up both hands so that Xingchen can see they are empty with no intention of going for a weapon that he no longer has.]

I escaped that a long time ago. This place feels like a new punishment.

[ xiao xingchen scrunches his nose, distrust visible despite the lack of weapon. he knows xue yang is crafty, he does not need a sword to be trouble. and then, as if remembering he ought to be a cultivator: proper, righteous and well behaved, his expression smooths out. ]

I am sorry you escaped your punishment before, perhaps your time here will help you reflect on your crimes.

I've had plenty of time to reflect. I've been very well behaved.

[That's not completely truthful but all things considered..he's only killed one person and not hundreds.]

Really? [ the boyish, trusting tone paints again how naive xiao xingchen is - that there is the single note there of hope that xue yang may be telling the truth. a hope and innocence xue yang himself had extinguished by his own actions.

xiao xingchen remembers song lan's advice to be cautious.

or perhaps the fact that xue yang isn't actually lying is what xiao xingchen picks up on. all things considered it's more truth than lie. ] I -

So, you've merely stayed on the side without hurting others?

I only killed people who deserved it. No one here has done anything wrong to me.

[It's not like he kills for sport..not really. He kills those that have looked down on him or caused him wrong.]

[ now that makes xiao xingchen angry. the way he presses his mouth in a thin line, shoulders squared and waiting for xue yang to lash out. ]

Really? All those small clans you slaughtered when you left Nightless City? They deserved it? Who are you to judge such things, Xue Yang.

[He holds up that hand with the missing finger. He has obtained a glove thanks to someone buying it for him, so it is covered up much like it was before. He curls all the fingers down and that pink still stays up, unable to move.]

I make my own justice, Daozhang. I always have. They harm others, so they will be harmed.

You cannot be judge, jury and executioner, Xue Yang! [ his voice rises, anger colouring the edges of it. ]
