Test Drive Meme 013
1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!
3. Have much fun!
Happy testing!
Training Gym
Fight club have finally gotten a gym to train in. Train carriages make strange gyms, long narrow spaces. But this has mats, balance beams, climbing apparatus. Pads and training dummies for punching. It also has large blocks that look a little like what you might find in a children's play centre but can be used to make obstacle courses or provide cover in training exercises.
Set up a course, practice fighting or try and learn how to throw a punch! There are plenty who will help, people who take training super seriously and let's face it, people who want to ambush others from behind oversized foam blocks.
Games
For those for whom fighting is not an idea of fun, or those wanting more relaxation, the games carriage has a whole collection of different games. Board games, card games, dice games. There are many games about trains but they aren't the only type.
There are low tables in the carriage to set a game up on and plenty of beanbags and cushions to sit on. Grab a game, grab a friend or a complete stranger and get playing!
Water Maze
The latest mission has taken the voidtreckers to an underwater maze. They have been given wet suits, helmets and breathing apparatus- lightweight boxes that strap to their back, connect to their helmet and filter air from the water. A powerful and dangerous artifact has been stolen and the race is on to get it back before it is used for ill.
Team One
Plenty of monsters and foes have been sent to try and retrieve the item. Giant crabs, strange eels. Even people with fish tails and the ability to breathe underwater. All are dangerous foes and fighting underwater is difficult.
But team one are the vanguard, keeping the monster levels low to allow team two to push on through the maze.
Team Two
Hopefully team one will deal with the monsters, but the odd one might sneak through. Team two's main job is to solve the maze, because the thief is in the centre in order to perform his ritual.
It's a race against time, the maze is made of coral and walls of seaweed that are impossible to cut through. Solving it requires a quick mind and some determined swimming.
Team Three
For those not wishing to brave the water, or those whose skills lie more in helping others. The island where the artefact was stolen from needs help. The temple was ransacked and some of the islanders were injured. Help them fix their homes, put the temple back to rights, tend to the injured.
Cleaning the temple is a big job, but hopefully by the time the artefact has been retrieved it will be able to be restored to it's rightful place.
interrupting your quiet, boss
Now Reno wasn't exactly thrilled by the fact that the illustrious Rufus Shinra was stuck here on the train with the rest of them--someone as smart and influential as the boss needed to be back on the Planet helping forge the future!--but since he was that meant Reno was back on duty. No more shitty vacation on a spectacularly bothersome train with a penchant for kidnapping people to do its dirty work. As nefarious as it was, Reno didn't really appreciate being on the other end of his own type of work. That, and the latest information about the train that dropped wasn't exactly the best of news.
Reno shoved all that aside as he peered across at Rufus. When Elena had arrived she had been all banged up; Reno took a moment to confirm again that Rufus wasn't sporting any injuries, sickness or otherwise. Never too careful. That and maybe Reno was still trying to get over the fact that Rufus was here.
He swiped at his hair and then immediately reserved his thinking and threw his arms back over his head and leaned back. He fidgeted. It was entirely too clear that he was trying and ten seconds away from failing at giving Rufus some peace and quiet to work in.
Make that five. "Hey, boss. How're you holding up? You got anymore questions 'bout this charlie-foxtrot?"
no subject
"I checked to see if I could find any remaining sores but they seem to be entirely gone," he remarks thoughtfully, his gaze meeting Reno's. Reno had watched him slowly die for the last two years, Rufus was going to make sure there is no uncertainty now. "I'm simply tired but that doesn't matter. I will regain my strength in time." He only glanced at the cane propped against the bench beside him before deciding that enough was said about the subject. Moving on.
"We have business to discuss. You've been here longer than I have. I want to know who else from our planet is here. If we found our way here, that means others we may not want to see could as well." He's not going to elaborate- they both knew who could show up. "We will also need allies, resources. Do either you have any materia on you?"
no subject
Technically, he knew Rufus knew this. He'd relied on Reno so far for getting missions complete so there had to be some level of trust between them. But for whatever reason Reno was acting strange today in his efforts to be spot on. Well, mostly. He still lounged and his suit would never be on straight and proper but his demeanor was oddly alert and (semi-)formal even if his speech patterns didn't change.
"Good to know you're all set," Reno declared and then cocked his head as he listened to Rufus give him the business part of the conversation. That was fine. Rufus was the man with the plan. And Reno didn't mind following him. He'd always done right by the Turks. That said a lot to someone like Reno.
Mission report was a go!
"Yeah, I got a Summon materia," Reno responded. "So, the deal is we only get the one thing from home when we get here, right? Well," Reno pulled out his baton and electricity crackled for a moment before he put it away. "That was my one thing. I ain't complaining because a lot of schmucks get stuck with useless shit when they arrive. But the train shop has the accessibility to pull things from our homeworlds and bring 'em here to us. That's how I got the materia."
Which meant that anyone could ask for similar objects from home. However, Reno went on to paint a clearer picture for his boss.
"Pretty sure it has to be," he stuck up one finger, "from your own world," and a second finger, "and it can't be a weapon proper. So far." His let his hand drop. "See, the way I figured that out is because the Summon I got? Completely defensive. And small to boot. So it fits on the train and it has no offensive spells whatsoever."
He had been annoyed when he had first discovered that fact but by this point he was chill about it. That, and going into the situation report had him as relaxed as could be. It felt natural, normal to be talking like this. He was doing his job; he was being a Turk again. Nothing better than that.
"I also tried to get more Shinra tech from the train last time I went shopping but it didn't like any of my suggestions. It really has a thing against weapons. But protective and curative materia can still be bought.
"Speaking of which, the girl here, the one that hung out with Avalanche back then--Yuffie Kisaragi--she's here and she has a Restore materia. Other than me and Elena, and now you, that's it from our world so far."
no subject
He pushed that thought out of his mind for a bit as he returned to their more immediate circumstances.
"Yuffie? Yes, I remember her. What an interesting group we have here." He paused, idly tapping his pen against the notebook with a slight smile that lasted only a moment. "That's not much to work with but I suppose it's better than nothing. What Summon did you get?"
He would have preferred they have access to more useful materia like fire or lightning. "I want to identify allies here who may not be from our world. If it's just the four of us here it's doubtful that anyone here knows of Shinra's reputation. That makes it easier for us to gain access to information and other resources." It had been interesting to pass by people who didn't look at him twice aside from the occasional look at the cane. He was used to either having to hide his identity or remain under the protection of the Turks it was a new experience to be just another passenger.

"Little guy's called Carbuncle. He's got Barrier magic, Haste, and a Cure-All." Reno had heard of the Summon before but never seen it in person until he got it. If nothing else it was popular with the passengers as a freakin' mascot. Tiny and cute, go figure. "I'll keep trying for more. Train's gotta give one of these days and give us useful shit. Eh, if you need anything boss..."
Reno let that one hang in the air. It was a volunteer to get Rufus whatever he might want from back home. Of course he was limited by the train's standards so no shotgun or pistol, and Reno was pretty sure Dark Nation was too large to get from the animal shop, too, so basically all the fun stuff was out. Oh well. If Rufus didn't want anything then Reno would just keep spending his points on useless shit.
"Plenty of people here who like to be friendly. Gotta say though, Yuffie will badmouth Shinra any time it gets brought up publicly. Other than that, it's been pretty nice." It was nice not to get glares and death threats (not that they really meant much to a Turk anyway) any time Reno was walking by. Yet he also missed the ease with which he could throw out the names "Turk" and "Shinra" and get a reaction like back home. It was a double-edged sword in his opinion. But for Rufus it would probably be great, Reno supposed. He'd let the boss have that for a win. "I can get you a list of people that are popular here, hold any influence, and some I'm already personally in good with."
no subject
He wasn't concerned about Yuffie, there were others he was more concerned about showing up. He had to put together a structure of allies and resources but that would take time.
"We should keep trying for more materia. Even the non-offensive ones could possibly be put to creative uses depending on the situation. I want to be prepared as much as possible for anything we may encounter and any possible arrivals from our planet." He's not going to waste any resources on obtaining any personal possessions simply for sentimental purposes.
"That would be useful, thank you. I will use the connections you and Elena have made during your time here and go from there." It would be something to pass the time as he learned his way around at least. "Are we just stuck on this train the entire time? Where does it stop, other than the stations?
Being stuck on a train in the void wasn't exactly his idea of a second chance at life.
no subject
"I'll try for more of my kit and some decent materia then. The fuzzball's nice and all but he can only stick around for so long. Definitely would be useful to have some Restore materia on hand so I don't have to waste time Summoning him." And he wouldn't exactly count on Yuffie to spare them the time of a Cure spell even if she were nearby when it was needed. He sorely missed Rude and his expertise with materia right about now.
He leaned back and slumped further down into his seat. "Not the entire time but might as well be three fourths of it. One day at the stations to pick up new passengers, and roughly a week of time spent on other worlds where we're expected to help out with missions.
