I figure we could use a post like this, given it's an enclosed train and people will gossip. I hope I don't step on any toes.

Basically, this is a 'what can be assumed people know? What rumours are floating around?' post.

I don't mean personal things (unless you want), but the basic/semi-basic stuff.

This encompasses the train (random wild theories!), passengers (AKA who has a stick up the but, who are the kids), day to day life on the train (who doesn't like certain foods, who uses all the hot water, who hermits in [train car], Rumour has it Princess knows empty laps).

Basically, that kind of thing.

Headers are provided to keep things organised.

The mission is now live. This initial post covers arriving in the system and setting off towards their destinations. There will be team posts on the 15th March for the main bulk of the mission. There will be a subsequent team post on the 23rd March as missions reach their conclusion. You are free to put up your own posts on [community profile] middleofsomewhere throughout the event- always make it clear what team mission you are taking part in. There will be a final conclusion post on the 26th March.

Remember for the plotting and planning only the information in the blockquoted area of this post is available to the characters before their arrival on world – as well as any dreams passengers may have received.

Dressing Car

The dressing car is open. Each passenger will find a flight suit in their team colour and a helmet.

Lay of the Land

As the mission brief stated system #7212108 has one inhabitable planet and the mission will mostly take part in the vicinity of it. The system has two suns and viewed from space the planet seems to be very rocky. For those who had dreams earlier in the week they will recognise the planet as the one in their dream.

There are four stations around the planet, control stations for the shield system around the planet. The system is designed so that control is split between the four stations. Each station has a disk on the outside, which projects an energy shield to the other stations. There are failsafes that allow other stations to keep the shields up if one is damaged, but that is hardly ideal.

The military station is a decent flight away from the planet. It is a large space station with a large area for docking ships, mostly fighter craft. It has artificial gravity and an atmosphere that means passengers will not need their helmets.

Long distance space travel in this universe is done through wormholes, which open in one part of space and lead to another. People on world will be quick to inform passengers that it is science based, not magic.

The main area of battle is relatively near the military station (in space terms anyways). The two forces are mostly stationed in large battleships but the fighting is done by smaller craft, each trying to get through to down the other's battleship. It has practically come to a stalemate. Like the military station these battle ships have artificial gravity and an atosphere.

The second wormhole has opened on the opposite side of the planet than the military station. A second force have come through it and are making their way both to the battle and the planet itself.

Ships and weapons

There are three types of ships that voidtreckers may find themselves using.

Transporters These are fast moving ships that hold up to six people (it's a squash). They have shields but no weapon systems. They are primarily used for scouting and getting people quickly from place to place. They are relatively easy to use, requiring just one pilot, though a co pilot is always recommended.

Solo Fighters These are small, fast moving fighter craft. They have two weapons at the front of the craft and a shield system. They are most useful for getting around a battle fast. They are not easy to use, requiring a decent level of skill. The military will be loathe to give these to voidtreckers unless said voidtrecker can convince them they have skill in piloting. But they are in the middle of a crisis so if a passenger seems confident enough they will allow it.

Dual Fighters These are the main ship used by the military of system #7212108. Fighters sit back to back and both have access to weapon systems. Control of flight can be passed between fighters, though they can also be set so one person has flight control, allowing a skilled pilot to fly with someone less skilled who can still use weapons. They are a bit bulker than the solo fighters but sturdier with strong shield systems.

All ships have a basic radio system that allows chatter from ship to ship in a relatively close distance. Long range communication is possible to the military base.

Passengers will also be issued a simple blaster gun if they request one, these are relatively easy to use as long as you have a basic idea of what a gun is and fires lazer blasts. The charges aren't infinite and will run out, those in the stations will be able to swap it out for a fresh one but those out and about should use theirs more sparingly.

People and NPCs

The people that the voidtreckers are helping are humanoid in shape. They have scales rather than skin, primarily in brown and green colours though there are a few brighter colours to be seen. Their teeth are sharp and their fingers more like claws- though they have thumbs. They wear fitted flight suits and whilst out fighting wear helmets. They will not seem surprised at seeing humans- or any of the non human people of the train, the galaxy is vast after all.

Those of the Empire of Stars wear bulky space suits, almost like power armour. Their helmets are dark and so it is hard to get a good look at them, even if you get close enough but through the vast array of shapes and sizes it can be concluded that the army is made up of many different species. They have two types of ships it seems. Smaller scout ships with small amount of weaponry, but quick and easy to manoeuvre. And larger ships piloted by crews of four or five, with a large amount of gunfire, but slower moving.

If anyone wishes to talk to an NPC please comment on the thread below.

Routes

Purple

The situation is quite quick moving but their first job will be to engage the new fleet of enemies and hold them long enough for red to sneak past and for the military to send some fighters from the main battle.

Once the initial situation is dealt with they will be moved to the main battle where they will be put in the ranks of the system's military. When not out fighting they will be stationed on the main battleship. Quarters are tight and discipline strict- though the voidtreckers will be mostly treated as a special ops team, they will be expected to respect the rules but mostly left to their own devices outside of battle situations. The ship has a med bay, though any serious injuries are sent back to command.

They will mostly be piloting dual fighters but any who seem especially skilled will be allowed to fly solo.

Orange

One of the shield platforms has been badly damaged. There are causalities among those stationed there, the outer disk is damaged and the internal system is offline. There is plenty of work to be done, from helping bring systems back up, to physically repairing the disk, to helping those injured on the station and setting things back to rights. Each station has a staff of about twenty but the station itself is large enough to fit orange team comfortable. Those on the station are primarily engineers and though they have basic military training they are not fighters.

Throughout the mission there will be more attacks on the stations, as well as on the other stations. Voidtreckers may need to fight to defend the stations, or travel to the other stations to help with repairs there.

Blue

The military station is large and currently mostly empty. It is made up of five floors. The lowest is the armoury, it contains ships and weapons- though not so many once they have been loaned out to voidtreckers. It is still heavily guarded, the only place on the station that is. Top floor is command and has a staff of about twenty five, dealing with movement and communication. The subsequent floors are a mix of barracks and training rooms. There is a large mess hall, though for the moment everyone is on basic space rations.

One floor is a medical bay, staffed by a team of doctors, they won't say no to help, if anyone is medically inclined.

Red

Hopefully the Purple team will be a large enough distraction to allow the red team to get behind the second force and through the wormhole.

The wormhole looks almost like a ring of light in the sky and through it is a whole different galaxy. Once they move through they will not be able to use their ships to communicate back to the main military base, though they can still communicate amongst each other.

There seems to be six planets in this system though only two seem to be made out of anything solid. There are also two large space stations. When the team posts go up on the 15th there will be more detail to ease in them scouting the area and learning about the mega weapon.

They can travel back through the wormhole, though doing so too much will attract attention.
