Test Drive 028
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Knights Quest
Upstairs in the games carriage there is a VR game set. There are enough headsets and controllers for four people to play. One of the games is Knight Quest!
A game that can either be played on single adventure mode or with the other three headsets in a campaign mode. It is a typical fantasy rpg about a young hero who is searching for a magical item to save the world. The story is simple but fun and engaging. The hero has a sword and shield and fighting in this game requires some physical skill, but practice makes perfect!
Right now you stand at the entrance of a huge fortress, beyond these doors is your foe, the three headed dragon! Who are your party members? Are you ready? The door is opening. It is now or never.
Chores
Chores are part of life on board the Voidtrecker Express. Each team is assigned a task each month: Cleaning kitchen and bathrooms, cleaning bedrooms and passenger areas, laundry and cooking.
Obviously the only thing enforcing these chores in a passengers own conscience and their fellow travellers.
Are you diligent or do you shirk? Do you try swapping your tasks with someone else? Or just outright bribing someone to do your work for you? Work together to get the task done or try and persuade a lazy team member to pull their weight.
Ash Trail
Histri is a formidable, inhospitable world. The land is dry and cracked with rivers of lava flowing between unstable crusts. It might seem impossible that any life can exist here at all. Yet it does. Lizards, wurms, large spiders and Gri- meter tall orange lizard-like people who do not quite have language yet.
The main community of Gri is under threat, there is a large volcano that is due to erupt, and the main home of the Gri lies in the foothills, in the direct path of any erruption.
Team One
A vital task is moving the Gri! For that there will need to be those who can convince them to move, explain the danger and help with the task of relocating people who are only beginning to form communities. They distrust strangers. Any other creatures that can be herded should be as well, it won't be possible to save every creature but every animal saved is a victory here. Be wary not all the animals are friendly...
Team Two
Of course there is no point moving people and creatures if you have no where to move them to. Team Two's job is to locate a suitable place. It might be difficult to ascertain suitable in this hellish landscape but as long as it is out of the range of the volcano.
There will be dangers to contend with on the way and many obstacles in the way of unstable ground and lava rivers to move around.
Team Three
Of course if this were an ordinary volcano it would be far too easy. Before the ash and the lava come fire elementals. These demonic looking creatures burn whatever they touch and seem to exist only to cause chaos.
They crawl from the volcano and seek to spread out over the land. Water attacks work best but they do go down under normal and magical damage eventually. Killing them fast is the best way to avoid disaster.
Ruby Rose | RWBY (Prismatica CRAU) | OTA
Oh, yay. Chores. The one big weakness to all growing Huntresses! But, Ruby sucked it up and went about her job. Someone else would tell her to do it, wouldn’t they?
But, why did it have to be the bathrooms?! Yuck!
“Uuugh, can I switch with someone? Pleaaaaaase?!”
Ash Trail - Team One
“I know I’m different from everyone else, but you can trust me! I’ll protect you and everyone else!”
These poor creatures are scared out of their minds. At both the volcano erupting and the strangers trying to help them. Ruby isn’t letting that stop her. She has to save these people and their livestock.
Of course, in the attempt to convince the people to come with her, a bull-like creature came at them, forcing Ruby to pull it away.
“Leave them alone!”
Ash Trail - Team Three
So, not only are they trying to evacuate people, there fire elementals attacking, too. Thank goodness that Ruby can handle fighting.
Her Aura-protected Crescent Rose easily tears through the creatures, her blade covered in ice magic. Of course, there are a lot of creatures here.
“Man, so many…!”
Wildcard #1 - Moonblessed
If there’s one thing Ruby doesn’t like about being here is that, somehow, the Void has triggered all of her old abilities from Prismatica. That also includes Moonlacing and the strange affectionate urges to get her to do such a thing.
Thus, she can feel herself being lethargic from a lack of “Chroma” being generated, so she’ll go and approach someone in curiosity.
“Um, excuse me? Recharge time.”
And depending on the person, it may be a simple handhold, a hug or even a kiss. She’ll try to keep her hands to herself, but…
Wildcard #2 - Anything Else!
(OoC: Any other suggestions? Hit me up!)

team 3
He just can't help but stare in awe at her as Shirayuki looses off a Shadow Ball to the fire elementals nearby.
Re: team 3
“Are you okay?” She asked Sataru
no subject
"Y-yeah. I've never seen someone do that before, outside of the movies. No one can do what you do there."
(ooc: lemme know if this seems like 4th-walling, I'm not doing so deliberately! He's got some media in his world similar to our own, but rwby's equivalent isn't his focus or even on his radar. rwby's equivalent wouldn't be popular at all in his world.)
no subject
I know it’s strange seeing what I can do from another perspective.” Ruby admitted. “At least it’s cool, huh?”
Wildcard #1 - Moonblessed
"Um?" she asked, trying to think on how to formulate the question. "Recharge?"
No, she has no idea what's going on.
no subject
She sighed as she continued. “I need a charge of ‘Chroma’ for certain things and just touching someone is an easy way to do so. They do recommend more… affectionate ways, though.”
Wildcard 1
She is, however, completely oblivious to the vast bulk of human culture, and when suddenly approached and hugged of all things, with an apologetic reason of 'recharging', the Draenei woman immediately assumes this is normal for all of humanity and that is PRECISELY why they had priests and paladins!
For recharging of the spirit if nothing else!
After all, who doesn't use Light for that??
"Ah, we can all use a little charging, yes?" Her suspiciously russian sounding accent doesn't erase any of the easy friendliness of her tone, quite content to return what is surely an innocent hug. And all those tattoos etched across her skin are fairly glo-- no wait they are glowing. "Take all you need, the Light provides enough for all."
Re: Wildcard 1
“I know a lot of people don’t like such affection, but… I’m glad you do. Thank you and the Light.”
no subject
Honestly, short lived race or not, humans were such charming people. "There are few Draenei who would refuse another in need, and such a pleasant thing as a hug is no hardship."
If only she met more people who just went for the hug without warning! "Do you feel bolstered, now?" It's a bit of odd wording, perhaps, but she's still under the impression this is less a literal transfer and more a spiritual one. Some people just need hugs to feel better!
no subject
“The world I ended up visiting made such affection a big this, mostly because it also helped their world and it gave us literal strength and power.”
She blushed as she looked away and added. “Of course, they figured the best thing to do is have more through… less innocent affections.” She shook her head. “I wouldn’t ask you to do such a thing.”
no subject
Visiting other worlds, is it? And one that encouraged open affection, that couldn't be a terrible place. Even if apparently it encouraged a bit more than hugs too.. Jascca folds her arms over her chest, looking thoughtful.
It's definitely not an immediate rejection, or horror or disgust. "I think I would have to discover if our peoples are even compatible in such ways," she says, tone as thoughtful as her expression. "I admit, the idea of such ... affections with an alien has never occurred to me before. But the Light does not judge based on kind alone, and I will not either. Though we should perhaps get to know each other better first, yes?"
One hand is offered with a smile. Boy those teeth are sharp! But she still seems friendly. "I am Jascca, of the Genedar."
no subject
The sharp teeth didn’t deter her at all - the voice and the mannerisms all told her she could be trusted.
“I think getting to know each other first is the best!” Ruby said, taking her hand and shaking it. “I’m Ruby Rose. No matter what happens, I’m glad to have a friend.”
K'zeka Tia | Final Fantasy XIV WoL OC
Chores were something Zeka was very familiar with. Sometimes they were even his chores and not tasks foisted onto him because he happened to be in the wrong place at the right time and too nice to refuse.
It was his team's turn to do laundry, and he had decided he liked laundry a lot better than cleaning bathrooms. The cleaning chemicals made his nose itch and reminded him of the few times he'd had to visit the Alchemists' Guild for supplies; in contrast, the laundry soap smelled a bit nicer.
The laundry machines were a different story. They were helpfully labeled with water temperature, color type, wash time, and whatever 'extra spin' was supposed to do. There was a rainbow of polos in his basket, so he assumed 'bright colors' would do the trick, but--
"Excuse me, do you know how long I should wash these shirts?"
That question is for you, the (hopefully helpful) train passenger who's joined him.
Ash Trail - Team 1
Communicating with a race that didn't seem to have a grasp on any discernible language was a challenge. He'd dealt with the Qestiri--gods hope they'd never find out he compared them to a random alien lizard race--and pantomime had worked well enough with them, so it should work with the Gri, right?
He thinks he's succeeded in scaring them more. He'd attempted to show that the volcano would erupt and wipe them out if they didn't move, but now he's wondering if maybe they thought he told them the volcano would uproot itself and chase them if they did move. Oops.
Ash Trail - Team 3
It's times like this when Zeka wishes he'd taken up magick studies. He's certainly got the aether for it, just not the aptitude--that honor goes mostly to his sisters. Which meant that he was fighting fire elementals with two daggers and knowledge of a single water jutsu.
Not that it hadn't worked--he'd called up Suiton once and managed to take out two of the elementals almost immediately before the summoned water dissipated. He grins, forming the handsigns for another call on water, before getting distracted by sudden heat behind him. Another elemental has managed to sneak up, already singeing the tip of Zeka's tail.
"Guess it's your turn! My thanks for volunteering."
Wildcard - Cooking
Do you like meat? Zeka likes meat, a lot. And he's pretty decent at cooking it, judging from the smells coming from his part of the kitchen car. He's no culinarian, though, and so everything is minimally seasoned (if at all) and might need some salt or possibly BBQ sauce.
He's willing to accept tips and/or people to help him eat. It's not all the meat on the train, but it's a little of anything he can get his hands on that isn't specifically earmarked for anyone else.
Feel free to know he was present or treat this as the first encounter. Either's fine! :D
Seems it's not to be the case. Looking back over his shoulder, Elidibus looks from the shirts, to Zeka and then the machines. Fortunately, he has an answer. "Make certain the entire load are the same type of shirts. If one feels new, make sure it will not bleed the dye, though generally those outfits are safe enough to mix together. If you wish to be thorough, turn the shirts inside out and treat any stains."
That was a lot more than the actual question required. Though the answer Zeka was looking for is soon to follow.
"For the wash length, cold water and a medium cycle will be sufficient." Really, he could have just confirmed it was the bright colors cycle and been on his way, but Elidibus is nothing if not thorough about some points.
Let's go with the second one
He heard the voice before he saw the man, and while it hurt a little less, the desire to punch Elidibus from his borrowed body still existed. Of course, he doesn't, giving Elidibus nothing more than a put-out look while approaching one of the machines.
"Cold water, medium cycle," he repeats, tipping the clothing in and arranging it before measuring and dumping the soap in as well. "I wasn't expecting the additional information, but I appreciate it all the same."
no subject
"You're welcome." After a short pause he continues, "There are many who come from worlds with such machines as commonplace. You might be able to gain further insight from them. Most of the mechanical devices on this train seem to be commonplace in their worlds." Microwaves, small and large appliances alike.
Naturally he's not offering to explain more about what he's learned. It's unlikely to be welcome if it came from him. Or at the very least as uncomfortable as this brief interaction.
"If there's nothing more, I'll take my leave."
no subject
"By all means," he says, taking a cross-legged seat on top of the washer he's just loaded, tail hanging off one side. "But you're saying that no one we would know has created anything like this? Even the Allagans?"
Assuming the Garleans are capable of producing anything that functions without combat capabilities, that is.
no subject
"No," Elidibus finally answers. "As civilizations grow, technology will improve. I'm sure Allag or the Empire have had their own devices for improving menial chores."
The Ascian then gestures at the machine on which Zeka sits. "But neither the Allagans or the Empire number among the train's passengers. I'm merely pointing out these machines are familiar to several who are here."
Zeka is studied further before finally Elidibus adds, "But I would have thought that the obvious reason for the answer I gave. Is there perhaps something else you want to discuss instead?"
Loki Laufeyson/Odinson | Marvel Cinematic Universe |OTA
Well, this technology still had a ways to go but was among the more advanced on the train. And Loki did enjoy playing the hero, even if he often found himself in a different role. Perhaps surprisingly, he wasn't playing the mage in this game either. Sword and shield for him, and parts of him both loved and hated it. Loved it for the change, hated it because it still left him in his brother's shadow.
Still, that could wait--there was a boss battle coming up now.
Chores
Loki didn't do chores unless someone managed to make it worth it to him. But at least he kept his stuff neat, and did his own laundry. This time, someone had bargained with him--they'd spend points to get something he wanted, he'd do their part of the chores. And laundry was perhaps the least offensive chore, in his eyes. Or food preparation.
Ash Trail--Team One
It was boring, and annoying, but Loki at least was being more useful here--and did recognize that sometimes, homes must burn. Illusions were helpful. Illusions showing the Gri EXACTLY what was coming, and what would happen to them if they stayed. Illusions that were VERY realistic, until they vanished.
