Mission: Wings of Wonder
Destination System #222904810412112
Salis archipelago. A system of floating islands inhabited by a people called Salis. Recently the islands have been hit by a series of strong storms, called red storms locally that have brought birds to the islands.
These birds have brought destruction and chaos. The people of the islands need help.
Orange Team Repair structures, gather and distribute the materials between islands. Much of the island has been damaged by birds and extreme weather. Much of the gem technology has been broken and will need repaired.
Red Team Head for the highest peak where strange activity is occurring, investigate and find a way of getting rid of the anomaly.
Blue Team Locate misplaced people, bring them back to the settlement. Assist in any aid efforts, and good relations.
Purple Team Help clear pathways and secure easier movement, get rid of any hostilities along the way. Assist where needed.
The luggage carriage will be open for use.
Run time
The mission will run between the 11th and the 24th of September (N6-N12). A start log will go up on the 11th (N6). Ongoing will be on the 16th (N8). The finale post will be on the 21st September (N11).
THE OBJECTIVE. This mission will be different from the usual manner, as Voidtreckers will need to bolster good relations with the civilians. Exploration and investigation will lead the Voidtreckers to find out info for themselves, but many of the resources will have them at a disadvantage if they rely solely on guesswork. There will still be plenty to do without interacting with NPCs, and we’re looking forward to seeing what plans you come up with!
Lay of the Land
OVERVIEW.
➜ THE MISSION will give them close access to 4-5 islands, with them deposited on the centre island. There are shelters here they can make use of, along with their usual tents. The atmosphere is overall chilly and the air is thin, but not uncomfortable. Under the islands (despite the colour in the above image), a red cloudy mass swirls far, far below, making it hard to see anything. Attempting to go down will lead to their SCAs beeping in danger.
➜ HOMES AND SHELTERS are a mix of dome habitats, with rings around them to collect rainwater. Many of these are set around, usually with some tools inside, as well as rations and drink stored. These are spotted around the different islands, and can even be found at times inside the forests, or merged into the land itself.
Farm animals are housed in dome-structures also.
➜ STONE MONUMENTS are scattered around, usually where people have been before. More popular are gathered rock pieces, though the materials are more than just the simple rocks many may be used to. There are gemstones also inserted in these, with a variety of energy coming from them. Many will shine a light at night. Some have stone slabs before them that act as lids, opening containers with surprisingly fresh foods for rations kept inside, as well as drink, ropes and daggers.➜ THE PEOPLE are satyr-like, and though they don't refer to themselves as anything in particular, they're categorised as 'Salis'. Some have larger horns than others, though none of them are an indication to gender. They are incredibly skilled hunters and trap-layers, and have a means of communicating to one another through long distances.
→ There are also crystal statues of the sali people found around some of the islands, They sit cross-legged, heads bowed, hands opened on their laps. They appear old, though their features are usually obscured. Asking the sali about them will reveal they're called the Forever Ones. Those capable of communicating with spirits will be able to interact with these. They do not vocally or answer with words, but engaging with them may prove useful...➜ CRYSTALS ARE dominant around these islands, with a variety of uses. There are elementals, some less than clear, but with energies inside that those sensitive may be able to sense. However, they are not easy to wield - attempting to activate them with your own magic or powers will likely cause them to explode in one's hand, and even using telekinesis or other magics on them will cause a bad reaction. As...
→ To begin with, the salis will be incredibly wary of the Voidtreckers. They will not allow easy access to the East Island, and if they're spotted, they may be attacked. Those who fly will be targeted, as they will be believed to be with the Red Storm. However, communication can be made and will be needed. Those met on the South Island will be more inclined to engage with them, given their circumstances of their meeting. ( images: one, two, three, four )
➜ MAGIC AND POWERS will not work as well on this mission as they should. Most will be dampened, with any powers that assert control over energy, life or over anything will be seriously dampened and/or may backfire. For example: Growing plant life will make it go wildly out of control, while attempting to strongly influence gravity or the air will cause it to be flung around the place. Shooting off large energy blasts may also backfire in the person's face, or split apart before reaching its target.
→ Using magic/powers that can be considered 'buffs' on another is fine. Touch-based healing works better, but will not be safe on natives if it requires mixing energies.
→ Influencing growth even slowly will still cause a mutation within any plant. However, if you want to test this and see what could happen to certain plants, maybe the result won't always be an outright negative...
→ Those in tune with energy will find that the world disagrees with the foreign energy present, and is interrupting it. Using a low amount sparingly is safer. So slowly flying, manipulating a small portion of gravity, etc is better than forcibly doing so.
ISLANDS.
- ISLAND 1: EAST
Home Island. ‘Nossofh’ (Noh-soff) is the word they use for ‘home’, and so the closest that the location has to one. This is where the main settlement is, where most people live. The settlement itself set upon land with a slight slant, and has the usual dome houses, as well as a few set in the land.
There is an abundance of woods, particularly to the south, and mountains to the east, as well as a large lake. They also have areas for farming (much like the domes shown on Island 3/South), as well as a few other scattered locations that could be spotted from above.
WARNING: Anyone caught flying over Island 1 before relations are good will be assaulted with arrows and more magical items.
Creatures.• Headbutters: A boar-like animal that grows horns all over their bodies. While they don't seem too bright, once they notice people, they will become alert and excited, and chase after people they find. While not too fast on their feet, they can roll up in a ball to chase after prey.
• Kits: There is definitely cat somewhere in these creatures and it shows mostly in their behaviour. They are territorial and vicious if attacked. However if left alone they are content to nap in the sun. They are capable hunters and feed off rodents and birds, capturing them in their tentacles and eating them whole.
• Stripe Bears: Large predators that live in the woods. They are very swift and can run on two legs as well as four. Their main hunting tactic is to grab creatures that are alone or straggling from a group and running a fair distance with them before feasting. Best to stick in tight groups when stripe bears are about...
ISLAND 2: NORTH
A very rocky, hill terrain with dense forests and a large mountain to its west/northwest. There are no real paths here, nor shelters, beyond a very few makeshift ones to the south. It doesn’t seem people have been coming here until recent. There are a variety of monster-animals here, as well as infected sali people, and their traps.
The deeper one gets into the woods, the larger the trees become, with branches capable of being walked along. The forest rises with the mountain, and makes it easier to reach; from there, one will need to scale the rock, or find a better way of climbing to the top. The lower ground turns into swamp land. ( images: one, two, three )
At the very top of the largest mountain range is a lake that pours over the side after particular heavy rainfalls. When Voidtreckers arrive, they will see smoke coming from this mountain, and Oranges and Purples will be pointed in this direction.
Creatures.• Green Sprinter: Not inherently violent, though they will attack if approached, they fight with their antlers and are very strong.
• Camo Spider: They camoflague amongst the trees and greenery, spinning large webs all around. These webs can save people who fall from the trees, but they're also incredibly sticky and durable, making it hard to escape by the time the spider comes around.
• Walking Mountain: Tree bears. Fast, large and deadly.
• Tail Jumpers: More mischievous than actually violent but they will steal items, grabbing them and taking off into the trees.
• ISLAND 3: SOUTH:
The ‘farmland’. Mostly the northern point of the island is used, with the rest still needing to be explored. The main area looks a lot like this, if in a terrible state when the Voidtreckers arrive. An assortment of food and herbs for remedies are grown here, as well as livestock. There's a smaller settlement here.ISLAND 4: WEST
Creatures.• Woolies. Purple and green woollen creatures somewhere between a sheep and a cow. Very docile.
• Headbutters: A domesicated boar-like animal that grow horns all over their bodies. They become easily excitable, and can either be calmed down by music, a soothing soul, or by roughhousing until exhausted. Wishes it was a pokémon named Exciboar.
• Upside down birds. Birds that seem to fly upside down, they have a large wingspan and those caught in their area will find that gravity works differently around them. People may find themselves flung up into the air or crashing down to the ground at random.
• Small birds with black and red feathers, alone they are not much of a threat but they fight in packs.
• Swift Wing: more common smaller bird, it is incredibly fast with sharp teeth and talons.
The mountains. Incredibly chill outside despite the lack of snow, it has a white forest that surrounds the easily accessible side, though there are trails to follow, unlike the North Island. There's a large enclosure here with buildings close to the mountain base that may be worth investigating, and there will be a page for doing so. The upper mountain is covered in a red shroud, that also leaks in through the upper interior of the mountain.
Creatures.• Steel Weaver: Creatures with limbs as strong as metal. They are both poisonous and venomous though the Salis have an antidote.
• Spirit Cats: Usually less hostile, the red shroud has made it more aggressive. It can sense people by their energy, and can use life-draining tactics from a distance. They're hard to sneak up on, but can be overwhelmed by experienced fighters up close.
• White Guardians: Found closer to the mountain, and usually outside along the mountain ranges. Not a common enemy, they're considered incredibly dangerous to the sali. With strength that rivals the Voidtrecker's best fighters and a body that won't be impacted by most bombs, it is a test of endurance to take these down. Getting pinned under one usually means earning a hole, as do their kicks.
• Red Wings: Large bird with blood red feathers. When in flight its feathers burn and can cause fires at what it touches, and can screech with an intesisty to break stone, and leave craters.
• Steel Wings: Vicious creatures with sharp talons and wings that they use as blades. They patrol the lower skies. Will slice into mountain rock to cause rockslides, and can throw off their blade feathers like knives, with no end.
- ORANGE.
Orange's task of repair will lead them to the North and South Islands, but they will also need to access the West Island. Those with the ability to repair and work with tools will be useful here. Much damage has hit different portions of the islands, with structures in the South easily available, but also something in the North. However, those with combat experience will be safer moving North.PURPLE.
As the lands uses a lot of gem technology, learning about how gems work will also be a direction for those skilled in magic. Tools will be necessary for nullifying the red mist.
The areas in most need of attention will be the North and South Islands. The North Island is in need of paths made to reach the area that members of Blue and Orange will also be led to, through a forest and onto the mountains. There will be more danger to the North. Combatants will be necessary to get through the North island safely and quickly.RED.
Some Purples may also wish to go to the West, where many monsters have also been unsettled. Orange will need materials from this area, and so helping to keep them or anyone else in the area safe will be recommended.
Reds will initially have the biggest trouble advancing with their objective, which leads directly to the West Island. The upper mountain range is covered in a red fog, and birds can be seen and heard, everywhere. Attempts to travel through air can be made, but will be nigh unlikely. There are caves however that give access within, made by the people of the islands, as well as monsters. Exploring the caves to see what can be accessed and reached will help in reaching possible materials.BLUE.
Blue's task will recommend they check out each of the islands, with priorities being the East/Home Island and South Island. Communication with the people will be necessary, and so those good at diplomacy will be useful.
While they won't have much access immediately to the Home Island, the South Island has suffered attacks and is in disarray, and people and animals will need healing and calmed, and transported to the East Island, if possible. On the South Island, those with some long-ranged combat skills, but also those good with animals and people will be better equipped to help.
Those who don't mind longer treks and more fighting may want to check out the North Island, to where the Purples and Oranges are being led to. There may also be people on the West Island, but their SCAs will not be able to give data.
➜ PRE-PLANNING AND ORGANISING.
- Given the layout of the land being 'floating islands' and the need for exploration and repairs, some planning would need to be discussed with the Voidtreckers on how to provide and make travel and investigating easier. While we can't say how communicating with the East Island will initially go, we do encourage you to tell us what characters will be attempting to do, as we can add any efforts into the logs!
Even if you're unsure if it'll work or not, come and ask.
- The Voidtreckers will arrive on Island 0, the small centre island shown on the map. Bridges are mostly destroyed, and while there's a few small islands (more like sections of land) people could jump to, it'll only be safe for those with abnormal human talents to do so. But, even they will have some trouble, given the issues with energy conflicting with the planet. Securing the means to safely get across from the Arrival island to the other islands will need to be figured out.
- Taking off your SCA or being without it for whatever reason will cause choking for those who breathe, and for blood vessels to expand, and eventually burst. This process will take around five minutes. Consider not.
Putting the SCA back on will - after a recovery period - allow the person to breathe normally again, and keep their body safe.
- Each log will have some NPC top levels for people to jump in to but if you have any specific NPC's you wish to have threads with please fill out the NPC request form below.
- Taking part in a mission in any way will earn you five team points. You claim those by submitting a link during AC.
Also threads of 10 comments or more where mission goals are being worked towards will also earn you 10 team points. To claim those please fill in the form below and reply to the rewards header.
Please feel free to use this as a plotting post. Remember there is nothing forcing your character to do the task assigned to their group so if you wish to do a different one, feel free! If your character decides to not do any of the tasks at all, that’s fine too!
For those who are new or who want a bit more guidance please check out our mission guide!
Have fun plotting!
Questions?

Re: Questions?
Does the magic dampening affect items? Things like mana drives, transgates, summoned weapons, enchanted items, enchanted plushie slowly coming to life due to life powers...?
Character related: Are magical connections between people still intact, or are they also affected by the world?
Most importantly, for Thanatos, does this mean he cannot help Zagreus defy death?

Will the locals be using whatever means of getting between the islands the voidtreckers devise, or will they avoid / use their own means?

Re: Questions?
NPC-related: are there salis on the West island as well, or have they all evacuated from the birds?
Animal-related: can the cats or birds on the west island be lured away from trouble spots or bribed with food and non-threatening behaviors? Or are they specifically focused on intruders rather than merely hunting/scavenging? (Also, are they edible if killed?)

Also depending on the above question/answer, would the White Guardians on West island even be a challenge for those of the DBZ/S universe?
Tech wise: Can the red mist be tested to find out what it is made out of/if harmful/how harmful to others? Would the crystal structures that don't like magic also react poorly to being scanned by technology?
Thanks.

Questions. +_+
1. For those of us who are, outside of proper meat suits, beings of pure aether held together with a will, are there going to be any extra problems to consider? Since this world seems to reject foreign energy?
2. Referencing that aether link above, since Elidibus does see things about the energies of a world, including their aspect (elementally speaking) and whether they are an active or passive state. This ability is inborn and is not in itself related to using a psychic power or casting a spell.
3. Just to check, but are there going to be NPCs/a village on the central island or is it abandoned?
I think this is it so far! Onward toward shenanigans!

2. Okay if anyone falls off the island(s) and one goes diving after them, how far into the red mass of clouds below can they get before it kills them?
3. Given his natural human-form horns, will this have any effect on the native population when trying to interface with them? Are they more or less inclined to try dealing with him, though his horns are of a different styling than their own, and his tail is much larger (and no cloven feet, we apologise, natives).

Potato of course, is a literal walking battery/mana generator! She pulls magic in from the air, and stores it away, at a passive rate. Now, this in itself doesn't affect how well she's walking around- she's got enough of that stuff inside her to last for centuries- but uhh.
How well or not so well is passive absorbtion happening, and what's going to happen to the potato?
ON ANOTHER NOTE!
I would like a general perception deal on how the Sali take this...small lumpy child who is doing her best. (Obviously the others are also doing their best, but they're also people shaped, and far less simple/far more dependant on actual threads- Potato will probably have her day, but she's a little more 'hm, there's probably an average response here')
---
Emporio time again; obviously flight is flat out in terms of wind control, but how successful would one be in using a normal glider to get from arrival island across to a larger one? gotta git that material access for bridge buildin hurhur
And of course...GHOST ROOM STATUS! (It's a shame that ghost bridges can't exist, alas.)
In a similar vein to Potato's, what's the general response likely to be to...well. THAT'S A CHILD (naturally Kiyoiri is in this bundle as well, since she and Emporio are close to the same age in appearance)
---
If Katsuya were to blow his signal horn from the Arrival point, would-
1 - any Sali likely hear
2 - would any likely answer?
If there's a chance for REALLY early communication after all, that's worth pursuing!
---
And lastly...
If Kiyoiri explains she's a simple medic- not by magic, of course- would the Sali be willing to lend her certain materials such as antidotes? She'd of course not do that for free, but depending on the state of things, she still intends to go with team Red to make sure no one erm. Gets themselves killed. (Note that this question would only be asked after at least some friendly communication is established- the answer may well never come to fruition if we botch it u-u )
On a separate note, it's time to talk about Takechirou. Obviously in terms of power output, he's a fair bit weakened; this is ironically something she recently dealt with in canon, so that's pretty easy to work with. But, given that Takechirou also takes the form of Whatever and Whoever is best suited to the moment, is there any sort of person/role/etc that would be picked up on as either 'Optimal' or 'To avoid'?
For example- 'someone who looks like ___' or 'someone who can fly' or 'someone who can wield __'. It's fine if the answer is fuzzy, I just want to make sure Takechirou doesn't transform into anyone who would otherwise REALLY not mesh with things (or at least not mesh any more than everyone else here is. Just let us in planet :'[ )

1. Because it's generally relevant for him: what sense of things having died early/poorly/not resigned to death will there be around that he can feel? I'm opting for none of it responding to him given it's external energies, but does he have any sense of death-related energies for people/creatures who've died, on any of the islands?
2. Will he better be able to resonate with the energies within the Crystals? And/or feel anything particular from crystal energies or embedded gemstones?
3. Is he going to be able to make heads or tails of any of the Forever Ones as far as making spiritual contact with them?
Edit for another: How ineffective is his music playing going to be here? It's used as a means of him interacting with energies/getting in touch with them, and so I assume it won't be able to command or coax or anything to local energies, so what I'm more interested is in if it could still function as a means of communication to local energies, and to what extent/degree of being understood/him picking up on any associated emotions or energy surges.

For beings whose existence relies on magic/God powers... is Zagreus gonna feel like he wants to die the whole mission? Or is it just when he gets closest to the storm on the West Island? He isn't supposed to exist without Nyx's powers, sooooooo...

1. Do transformations work? Specifically Ryu can transform into his hybrid dragon form (and it hovers) and Caleb can polymorph into basically whatever animal.
2. Do the stone monuments ping as divine?
3. Will Ken summoning his Persona work, as it's a part of himself?
4. Will Otoha transforming into his armored form work? (Yurine unlocks it with her powers, but it affects Otoha so I wasn't sure. It's basically magic armor, I can go into more detail if you want/need.)

1. He will look to the people and the stone monuments, and the Forever Ones linked to them. While Elidibus can work with minimal resources, it doesn't mean he wants to. And well, reconciliation and diplomacy is a thing suited to his office when he isn't being some form of a jRPG protagonist or trying to kill the... er, jRPG protagonist of the game. Thus, he would be looking to make connection with the Salis people and also speaking to the Forever ones, to see if there is a way that he and the other passengers might find a means to reach a state of harmony with the world's will/energies (you know, without becomeing One With The Energies). Also, discovering whether the world DOES have a will or if this is more of an instinct. He will conduct his investigations over the course of Red Team's mission.
Matters of Note: (Whopping Spoilers here, please highlight to see it)
2. Elidibus will also strive to make points of contact with the native and work on gaining their good will. I would also like to offer to make a small team/group thread (sort of like with the conversation with the Chaos Entity last mission) in this direction, for people who might be interested but not necessarily have the right RP hook for their characters to get on that train, so to speak. (for instance maybe characters good with actions but not great with words, or just in general to help consolidate efforts to win the Salis folk over).
3. Ditto a tiny group for who might be interested in communicating with the Forever Ones but don't have the means. Elidibus can help interact/translate/speak for a group that might not have their own spirit abilities.
4. If there's any shenanigans I can see about helping others with that I didn't mention above, please let me know!
