Test Drive Meme 024

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Crisis On… A fairground

The train has a game carriage and the VR video games are always popular. A good way to relive boredom as well as teaching some good skills.

Crisis on...This game can be played with two to four players. It is essentially a crisis simulator mixed with an escape room. You can chose the scenario (the bridge of a space ship, a camp in a jungle, a high rise building, a sailing ship etc) and you are thrown into the middle of a crisis of some kind. Teamwork and a cool head are important as is using the surroundings wisely.

How hard can running a fairground me? Well very hard when so much has gone wrong. Is it sabotage? Is it bad luck? Shoddy engineering? No mater what it is the important thing is rides are breaking, people are in danger, there’s temperature fluctuations in the fun house and the banshee in the ghost house won’t stop screaming. This is perhaps one of the more light hearted scenario’s in Crisis On but brings it’s own level of stress. Good luck keeping everyone safe and pacifying those angry guests.

Jam Session

Downstairs in the music carriage there are a variety of instruments. Mostly smaller instruments (a guitar is the largest instrument there). There are a couple of each type. There is however an entire box of recorders, another box of panpipes and a box of mixed small percussion instruments (symbols, shakers etc). There are music stands small stools to sit on are stacked along the wall. There are folders of various sheet music as well as some ‘learn to play’ books.

When there is only one practice room well then it is the perfect time to learn to play together. No matter the skill level, instrument or music preference. Playing music together is a good team bonding activity after all.

Or perhaps everyone is just playing their own thing, descending into chaos.

Jungle Heights

The latest mission has taken them to a vast jungle, where people live high in the trees. There has been an influx of tree dwelling creatures with sharp teeth, sharper claws and a love of destruction. To make things better the forest floor is not safe, damp and marshy many creatures lurk there ready to bite at ankles and it is home to a root, the sap of which burns.
Team One

Treetop fighting is an acquired skill and one the voidtreckers are having to learn quickly. Swing on vine ropes and tangle with monsters. Quick movement and quicker thinking is needed to take down the creatures in terrain they are naturals at traversing.

Team Two

People here live on platforms in the trees, with bridges and walkways connecting them. Fend off the creatures and chase them away from peoples homes. At least there is slightly solider ground beneath their feet, but they must be careful not to fall to the jungle floor beneath.

Team Three

Many of the people here are not fighters and they need help to get somewhere safer. It's a tough journey through the forest, especially when they leave the bridges and platforms of the village behind. Children may need carried and climbing from one tree to another is difficult even with sturdy branches to walk along.

They must be careful to stay in the trees, avoid getting too close to the forest floor but do not get too high, lest they attract the creatures.

[Takechirou, of course, replies with a mimicked-] Hii! Hello! [-despite having started it. Birds!

For now, Kiyoiri nods, rather calmly explaining everything.
] Yes. It happened to the others a lot too, but it doesn't come up as much now that we're in the base at Wandering Sea. I think part of the reason is because of Wandering Sea's nature- even though we have the Rayshift system, the base itself is on an island that can't be plotted now, so it's harder to operate the system deliberately- it would be harder to do it unintentionally.

[Though certainly not impossible...oh-]

Vodka is 'Daitengu'- one of the Assassin class Heroic Spirits, [Kiyoiri explains calmly.] ...He prefers Vodka, since his body was called that in life, [she continues.] 'Daitengu' is a unique spirit- he represents an idea, instead of a figure in history, so the person representing him needed to be someone similar. Someone who wasn't well known in life. Even though 'Daitengu-Vodka' acts like that person, they're technically not the same, because of that.

[It seems important to get that down- though she does watch Masumi carefully for a moment. After all-

The Masumi at home also reacted to such alcoholic references, but they never had time to find out why and how heavily.

Huh... [Even if they're apparently not the same person, the alcohol name still puts her on edge enough that she's wary.

After all, people with alcohol names back home tended to have ties to that organization...]

What idea does he represent, then? I don't really know a lot about Heroic Spirits, and Vodka is a bit of a strange name, so I'm curious. [Please fill her in Kiyoiri!]

[personal profile] jan_ken_hacking 2021-06-20 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Organized crime.

[That's not very helpful at all!] Vodka represents the cultural ideal of 'the Mob'- the way we imagine it, in movies, in media, and so on. Since almost every country and its people has an idea and image of that one way or another, he's quite powerful.

Organized crime-

[-And there's the reaction!]

Why is there a Heroic Spirit representing that? [And didn't she say that the person representing him was similar, too? Why the heck is he there?!]

[personal profile] jan_ken_hacking 2021-06-20 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ah-

[Oh! Well, Kiyoiri blinks, preparing to explain.] It makes a lot of sense, actually. To people who turn to groups like Yakuza, or Mafia, such organizations represent protection, power against the government, and more; in that sense, 'The Mob' becomes 'Heroic'.

There are a lot of spirits like that- Lu Bu, Vlad III, Blackbeard...people who would go down in history for notoriety and villainy, are still heroic spirits because despite all of their crimes, enough of their fame survived to act as inspiration. In the right moment, and the right situation, anyone can be a 'hero', [she finishes, nodding her head.]

Mn. Though it can be hard to work with types like that, for a lot of reasons. Vodka is a little more controlled than them, maybe because of the 'organized' part of 'organized crime'; a lot of media has a view of 'nobility' to it, so it carries over.
tactlesstantei: (surprise)

[personal profile] tactlesstantei 2021-06-20 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
I see...

[She can see why people would turn to organized crime and Kiyoiri's explanation makes enough sense. It's just that the probable ties to That One Group are hard for Masumi to get past.]

...I suppose if he's at least able to act as a hero, then it's fine. I'm just a bit surprised, that's all. [If he's not here, then she can't do anything about him and has to let it go. Besides, if he's not doing anything wrong as a Heroic Spirit, then what is there to do? He's apparently not the same person as the actual Vodka...]
jan_ken_hacking: (smol smile)

[personal profile] jan_ken_hacking 2021-06-20 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Mmn. That makes sense...Ai-chan, and Conan-kun, in addition to Koji, seem to have known Vodka from in his normal life- even I did for a short time, so it was strange for a lot of us. Mostly though, he's been nothing but a great help.

[The part where he wasn't was largely during the summer, when he briefly class swapped to Rider and had a bit of fun alongside Koji. Vacations, man.

Stroking Takechirou however, she just smiles.
] ...I don't think you knew him either, so even if Takechirou copies him for a fight, it shouldn't be too strange. You were confused about his name in our time as well, but that was all.

...It's good though, [She adds after a moment.] ...Even though you're younger here, you're mostly the same- no matter what happened, or what was strange, you can take it all in stride and keep going.

[It's a compliment, and clearly so. Though now she's curious-] Oh...

...but...if you're this age now, is it before or after your mom...

[ !?!?!?!? ]
tactlesstantei: (disgust)

[personal profile] tactlesstantei 2021-06-20 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Hearing about other selves and other versions of her friends will never not be surreal for Masumi. By now she gets the whole alternate universe thing, but still...

She's about to ask about Takechirou's copying ability when Kiyoiri mentions her mom, and a whole new form of alarm takes over.]

Wait, my mom?! How did you- no, what happened? [Even if she's not directly saying and isn't sure what Kiyoiri knows, her reaction says after.]
jan_ken_hacking: (B| stare)

[personal profile] jan_ken_hacking 2021-06-20 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, to her credit the smile is a bit more sympathetic.]

You snuck on our plane back to Chaldea- when we got there, your mom had done the same... ...Chaldea's systems pick out actual ages, and other things like that, which is how they caught Ai-chan when she was pretending to be me, at her own arrival. Ai-chan had been going with my dad so that she could benefit from the witness protection, but when she was caught, she had to make a deal to work there instead.

...the point though, is that Chaldea being as isolated as it is, and secure as it is, the secret had to come out, just as Conan-kun's had, and Ai-chan's. I think...probably, to start, people had thought 'maybe we don't have to tell the others'- like me, and Koji, and Ayumi, and so on... ...but I think they decided it would be better to get that out of the way instead of risking a Heroic Spirit surprising everyone with the information, the way Andersen had for Conan-kun and Ai-chan.

[The girl glances down, and closes her eyes.] ...Right now... ...There isn't anyone to be afraid of, to keep secrets from right now, though.
tactlesstantei: (serious)

[personal profile] tactlesstantei 2021-06-20 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
...So everyone there knows? [She's glancing around, not comfortable having this conversation out in the open like this, and for good reason.]

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There's a person on this train who I suspect might have been the one to attack her. I don't have 100% proof though, and I don't want her finding out she's still alive, so it's safer for me to keep quiet about it here.

[She's talking about Vermouth, of course. There's no way she can let that woman know her mom's alive. But if there's no one in Chaldea to keep it from, then that's different. Still uncomfortable, given she'd been told to Not Tell Anyone, but different.]
jan_ken_hacking: (B| stare)

[personal profile] jan_ken_hacking 2021-06-20 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods...and with a bit of a frown.] ...That's here- not there.

...There's no one left at home. ...The world is gone. [That's all she says on that. It's 'gone'. No explanation why, or how.

It's gone.

No wonder secrets are unnecessary. Still-
] ...I can keep it secret though, if it's dangerous now. But...

[This is just a hunch, but. Hm. Hmmm.] ...What does that person look like? ...There's a Pseudo-Servant...a Heroic Spirit who uses a living person as their vessel- that Mary-basan avoids now. She was the first one to try and attack the Spirit when she revealed herself. [...In other words, she wonders now if there's a connection here.]
