Test Drive Meme 024
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Crisis On… A fairground
The train has a game carriage and the VR video games are always popular. A good way to relive boredom as well as teaching some good skills.
Crisis on...This game can be played with two to four players. It is essentially a crisis simulator mixed with an escape room. You can chose the scenario (the bridge of a space ship, a camp in a jungle, a high rise building, a sailing ship etc) and you are thrown into the middle of a crisis of some kind. Teamwork and a cool head are important as is using the surroundings wisely.
How hard can running a fairground me? Well very hard when so much has gone wrong. Is it sabotage? Is it bad luck? Shoddy engineering? No mater what it is the important thing is rides are breaking, people are in danger, there’s temperature fluctuations in the fun house and the banshee in the ghost house won’t stop screaming. This is perhaps one of the more light hearted scenario’s in Crisis On but brings it’s own level of stress. Good luck keeping everyone safe and pacifying those angry guests.
Jam Session
Downstairs in the music carriage there are a variety of instruments. Mostly smaller instruments (a guitar is the largest instrument there). There are a couple of each type. There is however an entire box of recorders, another box of panpipes and a box of mixed small percussion instruments (symbols, shakers etc). There are music stands small stools to sit on are stacked along the wall. There are folders of various sheet music as well as some ‘learn to play’ books.
When there is only one practice room well then it is the perfect time to learn to play together. No matter the skill level, instrument or music preference. Playing music together is a good team bonding activity after all.
Or perhaps everyone is just playing their own thing, descending into chaos.
Jungle Heights
The latest mission has taken them to a vast jungle, where people live high in the trees. There has been an influx of tree dwelling creatures with sharp teeth, sharper claws and a love of destruction. To make things better the forest floor is not safe, damp and marshy many creatures lurk there ready to bite at ankles and it is home to a root, the sap of which burns.Team One
Treetop fighting is an acquired skill and one the voidtreckers are having to learn quickly. Swing on vine ropes and tangle with monsters. Quick movement and quicker thinking is needed to take down the creatures in terrain they are naturals at traversing.Team Two
People here live on platforms in the trees, with bridges and walkways connecting them. Fend off the creatures and chase them away from peoples homes. At least there is slightly solider ground beneath their feet, but they must be careful not to fall to the jungle floor beneath.Team Three
Many of the people here are not fighters and they need help to get somewhere safer. It's a tough journey through the forest, especially when they leave the bridges and platforms of the village behind. Children may need carried and climbing from one tree to another is difficult even with sturdy branches to walk along.
They must be careful to stay in the trees, avoid getting too close to the forest floor but do not get too high, lest they attract the creatures.

which is strange, because there is not a member of his sect that lan xichen does not know as their leader.
His brows furrow slightly, even as he moves forward to help the young man stand but he's beat him to it. fine on his own, no help needed. it leaves xichen feeling strangely useless and more off-kilter.] I-- [he frowns again, then shakes his head slightly.] A day or so, but I've only just found this place.
['It is best to walk slowly, to be careful,' sits on the tip of his tongue, a lighter version of the 'No running in Cloud Recess.' that his uncle would easily use to scold. They are not in Cloud Recess, but it's clear that running here proved dangerous. He keeps it back, still unsure how the youth knows him and why he cannot recall his face.
And yet-- if he does look, he can see familiar features which have lost most of their baby fat.] .....A-Yuan?
no subject
despite himself, sizhui can't quite steel his expression right away, eyebrows knitting together and head tipped with concern.
he does soften somewhat after his uncle falters, all of a sudden guilty-feeling for moving so quickly. apprehension tamped down, his free hand reaches, stretches until he can tentatively touch the man's forearm.] Understandable, there is a lot of train to explore. [and although it feels like his fingers might burn if he lingers longer on xichen's wrist, the boy holds steady, exhaling a measured breath.
then comes the familiar affectionate name and sizhui's head nods.] Yes, uncle, it's me. [okay, so, one thing he's already instantly gathered from their interaction is that this xichen doesn't know him as a teenager yet. which, no big deal, they have people from all over the timeline and even from different universes; it's a day ending in ‘y’ by now.]
no subject
the touch is light, warm, and while xichen doesn't know, he doesn't pull away as he would if this was anyone else.
touch is a complicated thing and this is far simpler than steeling himself the first few times, as he prepared for a toddler to run into his legs at full force. currently, the a-yuan he remembers is upset with him -- at least as a-yuan ever is, good-natured child that he is.
there's something comforting about the fact that -- as far as he's been able to understand, those from one's life may appear and not be quite the same -- it isn't permanent.] Oh. You're grown here. [which is fairly obvious, as is the slight panic grips his voice without him wanting it to. he is glad for the hand holding him, as he feels unsteady on his feet. he doesn't notice that he's swaying.] Before I arrived here, you weren't...
no subject
if he didn't know any better already, he would've assumed this man had been swept up during his seclusion, simply startled by the abrupt difference in where he's been located rather than his suddenly grown nephew.
he's in luck (???) because lan sizhui's a little extra clingy at the moment, having last seen his uncle just before he'd gone into seclusion then disappearing not long afterward and reappearing aboard the train. perhaps this is a much younger man than he remembers, sure, that doesn't change the fact it's his family, who he's always pleased to see despite the circumstances.
gosh, even then, those don't matter so much anymore. the voidtrecker express isn't too bad at all.] I am. [oh no, zewu-jun, don't panic! everything is fine! much as he'd like to offer such encouragement verbally, it's more instinctual to act when the man before him sways, his opposite hand raising and catching his other arm in an attempt to steady him.] It's okay, it— it's okay! [his own tone trembles, raises an octave without conscious volition, though he reels it in before continuing,] I know it's a bit disorienting, but I assure you, I'm still A-Yuan. Just... older than you remember?
no subject
that is beyond him at the moment.
the features are the same, the part of xichen that isn't feeling a bit hysterical about this can hear the blend of himself, his brother, and their uncle in him already. it's comforting, just as it's disorienting.
which brings him back to lan yuan's words.] How.. how old are you? [which doesn't really matter, in the grand scheme of things. he knows. this is still not a toddler before him.] As I know you, you've finally settled into the Hanshi... [though not his room, but that's a battle xichen is fighting and is long in the past for the nephew in front of him.]
no subject
(which, given the circumstances, lan xichen is more than welcome to have! but his nephew's going to try his damnedest to make sure he's okay.)
part of him feels like he should shut his mouth rather than continue, seeing as it only proves to bring more stress into the situation, but.] Seventeen. [and despite himself, sizhui's lips faintly quirk at the edges, halfway amused when he recalls vague memories.] Ah, another tantrum? [a moment's hesitation] Or was it more nightmares?
[since he definitely remembers those, too.]
no subject
it has been difficult lately, back home, with the changes and mountain of duties that never seems to grow smaller and the delicate balancing act he plays as sworn brother, uncle, brother, sect leader, and nephew.
here, he is uncertain he'll be able to recover. here, he's uncertain he'll have a place to fall apart.
he shakes his head slightly, brings himself back to the moment and once again it feels like the earth is shaking beneath his feet.] Seventeen? That is... [over a decade, easily. his mind threatens to wander again but his nephew is a step ahead.] Ah. I would not consider it a tantrum. [compared to wangji, a-yuan does not throw tantrums. then again, his brother grew out of them as pressure mounted.] You do not wish to sleep in your own bed. [xichen is certain, though he has told a-yuan that he should sleep in his own bed, that he has no chance of truly enforcing this. he knows himself, knows that a-yuan is comfortable enough now not to hide his nightmares.]
no subject
while it's not under good circumstances (their homeworld needs its sect leader), perhaps it isn't the worst thing that he needn't worry about those duties when aboard the train? and especially when, y'know, he's having that breakdown.
gosh, even thinking such things feels bad, but at least he didn't voice any aloud.
lucky for them both right now, he has half a mind to simply nod toward his uncle's reiterating of his age, both hands gently taking xichen's forearms again so he can guide them to some nearby stones they might sit upon. this way, neither of them has to worry about the older man's legs giving out on him.] Oh, I see. [not nearly as bad as he would've assumed, being honest; he'd had worse moments, but in all fairness, it's true that his outbursts are likely tamer than most toddlers.] That sounds about right, though. It was one of my slightly more difficult habits to break.
no subject
later, when the fact the toddler he knows is now a seventeen year old young man is not quite so shocking -- he'll be very proud.
sitting down, he takes a deep breath. he'll need to meditate after this, though he's not sure he'll be able to calm his mind enough. that is a problem for later, now it is about taking one deep breath after another.] I'm not sure who'll have a harder time with it.. [xichen's experience with raising children is limited; wangji is a whole different matter, was only a few years his junior and so determined to follow the rules. xichen doesn't want this rigidity for a-yuan as he grows; wants structure and for him to learn their ways, yes, but not at the cost of his childhood.]
One of your more difficult habits? It is currently the only one.
no subject
and that later is something lan sizhui's more than willing to wait for until zewu-jun finds his footing better.
meditating wouldn't be the worst idea, either. those quiet carriages ought to come in handy for just such an occasion, which will eventually come up at some point during their conversation whenever he's sure the man is alright. as it stands, he's already deep-breathing and he hasn't anything else to offer for helping reground him. so, he sits, head-bobbing toward his uncle's remark.] Understandable, of course. Nobody was prepared. [there's a reason the saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ exists, after all, and each member of his family has taught him well.
the only one? goodness, it truly is the beginning for his uncle, and that realization has him considering other topics right away.] Not to worry, Zewu-jun, they are nothing you cannot handle. [look at this sweet, soft boy sitting beside him! he's more capable than he thinks.]
What have you experienced on the train so far?
no subject
he lets out a soft laugh at the next sentiment. he is not so sure, of course, but sizhui is here isn't he? he is grown. so xichen at least managed until he was old enough to enter his brother's care.
though already he's not sure how he'll step back. for all the difficulties that come with it, his nephew is a welcome reprieve of all other responsibilities on his plate.] I am glad that I'm not done in by my own nephew, then.
[the train is another matter, it earns a frown.] I've met a few others from our world and those like it. Seen some of the compartments but mostly the residential ones. It's been... a change.
no subject
lan xichen's laughter makes him ease out a relieved breath, his shoulders slackening and the slightest smile curving his mouth. three whole years he'd handled him and it's clear sizhui learned whatever he was taught.
he raises the hand not holding his uncle's arm, cups it around his face and smothers his own snickering after that. surely a toddler wouldn't put an end to the mighty zewu-jun! taking lan jingyi into account, he'd imagine xichen would have his hands full with another child, particularly one of his own, but if people can handle jingyi, they would find no trouble in handling lan sizhui.] Me too.
And yes, I can believe it's been different. There are many things aboard the train we aren't familiar with back home. [he hums thoughtfully.] Who all have you met?
no subject
[if he has, this time it will be the nephew teaching his uncle to adapt to a new world with new rules. it's fitting, in a way.] Sect Leader Jiang and.. myself. [that's a strange thing, still. xichen frowns slightly.] I did not think that was possible.
no subject
[extremely fitting, the ole switcheroo, and not entirely unexpected on lan sizhui's part either. he'll aid zewu-jun whenever he needs help, without hesitation and no questions asked!] I didn't think so either, but I met the other Hanguang-juns, Wei-qianbeis, and Zewu-jun... then another me showed up. [and when he thought it'd be awkward, they became brothers instead.]
no subject
he nods then. he has not met wangji yet, nor wei wuxian.] That all seems impossible, yet here we are. And both versions of Wangji are from your time?
no subject
Here we are, [he confirms softly.] One is, while the other is from an alternate world that's similar to ours. So still Lan Wangji yet different in some sense.
no subject
As I am your uncle, though I do not know you as you are yet.
no subject
Exactly right, yes. [the moment he had realized there were doubles (or even triples at times!), he'd decided worlds didn't matter: they were still the same people in some sense, even if initially just in name until they learned, and that's what matters.] And as unfortunate as it sort of is... I am glad you are here.
