calling all healers/doctors?

Willow's player here! With Ichigo dropping and Wen Qing having dropped beginning of March, I was wondering if setting up a mingle/discussion/"rollcall" of sorts for remaining doctors/medics/healers would be a wise idea to organise the medical team since as I recall, both of the previously mentioned characters were in charge of medical or lead medics? Would anyone be opposed to ICLY discussing anything organising medics/the medical team? (Like training, who's around, who's willing to teach, etc...?)

I had posted this on plurk earlier, but posting here as well to get extra thoughts. I know we have the white squad for healers on missions, but this being for on the train.

My plurk post mentioned for reference

(My apologies if this is just word salad, I'm not very good with explaining)

(A CLARIFICATION! BC it's pointed out that oops I'm bad at words, I'm not making a call for leadership roles, but more of general "who's here and who can help out or teach" kind of thing)

Xion is on the white squad, but she;'d have to be dragged to meetings and isn't at all the leadership sort, sadly. Clef could probably figure out healing, but same issues for different reasons. Privateer Pirate COULD heal if he could figure out the right pun for it, but no one even sane adjacent would want him for a leader and finding him on the train is actually impossible most of the time. So OOC willing to help, IC my characters are... lacking in multiple ways. >.<

(If they raise the cap, I am almost certainly bringing in Kaylin who is a healer. but not a leader, though a less bad choice than my other kids. And possibly Sardelle who is both leader and healer.)
kumoko: (info brain here)

Kumoko - powerful magical healing but no medical training, brute forces her way through making people healthy. Doesn't spend time in medical, but does produce the basic supply of medicinal potions. Very unreliable for emergencies.

Lightning - relatively average magical healing, futuristic first aid training, spent a lot of time with wen qing and still tends to hang around medical. ICly willing to be on-call for injuries or to show people how to use the healing manadrives.

Generally I'd recommend having a rota or a 'who's around, who's got what speciality' rather than trying to establish a leader, since they're not a faction, they're a skill group.

Otoha can field medicine but is probably not a good choice, he forget things like painkillers.

Ken can also field medicine with spells but tends to be too busy attacking.

Casper can also heal a bit with spells and would like to learn more about medicine. He's never been very good at it but wants to be helpful.

Haibara has been taking on regular shifts in Medical since Wen Qing left. She's the modern pharmacist expert even though she's like 7.

Push comes to shove she can diagnose illness/injury and perform basic procedures as well.

Putting this here so it's not only in your plurk-

I think a small and easy post about characters who volunteer/work at the medical carriage(s) would be nice, that people could be like "sup, my character's interested in helping out, this is what they know". Also mentioning any available training, what supplies the medical carriages has and what they would be publicly asking more of.

(Which I know has been put on the bounty board and that could be linked - and I think a document was made? But if anything else comes up, etc).

AFAIK Wen Qing and Ichigo were never leads, just very present in the carriages? Which, if I'm wrong, does make a case for having the OOC info being available somewhere. I'm +1 on the medical team having a rota, but ICly, Tidus wouldn't have any opinion, but could help buying any supplies.

Thank you for stepping up and speaking about this btw! :)

Would that come with an OOC post too? I do recommend it, since it then can be linked from the Character Initiatives, with a link inside to the bounty board, the medical supply list, and then a list of characters who would be ICly available/volunteer as part of the available medics (as long as they ICly would volunteer themselves).

But that's of course up to you/anyone else involved with medical shenanigans! i just love ooc organising......

I hadn't thought of that, but I probably should post to that now that you mention it! I'll have to take a look at that come this evening to poke at it.

You're not alone, it makes things so much easier to track, so I welcome all the help on that front

I have Rapunzel who can do the following: Healing any and all injures like they didn't exist. Able to remove all poisons and ability to make people look younger. Probably more tbh, but those are the only one you ever see in all canon

She does go to medical now and again, but not often and if people need it she would offer to go more for healing hair power.

If Zelda lends him the Ocarina of Time, Link can heal via song. He’d be happy to help!

....Beej, on the other hand, is not the person you want administering first aid.

V's good at first aid and combat medic kind of stuff. He also has skill in emergency repair of cybernetics and could work his way through minor robotics as well, but he's no tech or medtech by any means.

Raven's been taking regular shifts in medical and very open that she's one of the healers--so she'll definitely step up more to help. She's familiar with basic first-aid/triage procedures and has magical healing.

Trunks is a fighter first and foremost, but he can do very basic first-aid if needed. He also donated senzu beans (15 in medical and 10 in triage), which can heal almost any injury barring death, or unnatural illnesses.
controlsthedie: blushing Valentine's Day Thanatos (Roses are red - violets are not blue)

[personal profile] controlsthedie 2021-04-23 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanatos will be joining White Squad because he can now heal and treat status effects with the manadrive. He could be called upon on the train to deal with small injuries or ones that require help fast due to his shifting abilities. However, he will not take any shifts or be able to teach anyone.

Look, he's new to this whole healing business, and having Death Incarnate staffing medical just because he has some healing discus is asking for trouble.

Senku is a doctor.

Despite his age at the time, he studied medicine extensively for several years. He read every required textbook and did at least eight different internships around the world in various fields, most notably his time in Africa studying Ebola.

In more recent time, he has 150 patients in canon, and acts most like a family doctor in function, with most likely a focus on injuries over illness, most of the people in his village are fairly young. He is someone who knows how to dispense medications, dosages and what they are all used for - outside of emergency care, he also provides palliative care. He has experience in diagnosing people’s illnesses or injuries and coming up with treatment plans. He is likely greatly helped by the fact he has an eidetic memory so he hasn’t forgotten a word in any of the textbooks he read in his teens, some thousands of years ago. He has operated on a patient prior to coming to VT, and we know from further canon he demonstrates further knowledge in surgical procedures. He’s not a specialist, but more of a general practitioner/general surgeon.

In VT itself, he’s been involved with medical since last August. He’s been on call because Ichigo and Wen Qing had the shifts managed, and pulled the odd shift here and there. He assisted with the eye surgery, in collaboration with her to discuss the aftercare options, to avoid organ rejection.

When Wen Qing left, he picked up many more medical shifts to help Ichigo manage the patients as needed.

He’s been studying magic, and has managed to learn a healing spell. He can heal about three moderate injuries, or one major injury patient per day. He’s still new, his ability to wield magic is incredibly limited, but will get better with time and practice.

As a note, Ichigo does in fact have histories on anyone who’s given them to him, likely somewhere, possibly on the ICP in there? I’m not quite sure where he was putting them, but those who were working in medical had access to them. Many of the supplies were donated by Curufin, from a list by Haibara ages ago as far as medicine goes, and Senku has added several books to the small medical library.

Mami's healing is magic-based: she prompts the patient's body to regenerate healthy cells. She's not capable of any real specialty work beyond that, but has completed the train's first aid course.

Wen Ning is Wen Qing's brother, so he has some basic medical training. He's nowhere near as good as she is and he can't take charge of any medical operations. He also has no experience with magical healing. But if anyone ever needs an assistant he knows his way around some really old fashioned medicine...

Jiu practically memorized the books on medicinal herbs back home and has hands-on experience with basic battlefield medical care, but getting him to teach would take some coaxing and unless the injury's serious or he gets pushed to work in medical he's not particularly likely to help, ahaha.....
its_dad_sanzo: (bright sutra)

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2021-04-26 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Koumyou can use the sutra to heal someone (or many someones, even all at once) in an emergency. It's so brute force that it hurts worse than the injury itself did, because 1/5th of what made everything and nothing and all in between is not gentle. A brain doesn't know how to process everything getting restored all at once like that, so it just spits out pain pain pain.

(Even Koumyou goes into a kind of... briefly catatonic, brain-reboot after taking a healing from it. And screams during it. And he knows what to expect.)

But if there's mass about-to-be-casualties, for example, he's a good option and he would tell people as much. Or if the other healers are tapped out/not present/there's no healing items around, and even one person is about to die, he's good in that kind of a pinch.

You just don't want him healing you unless it's Dire.

I am not actually in the game til like .. the 1st, but Dio can heal things! Somehow. Nobody knows how he does it he just does. While he's hardly a doctor or a medic, he can probably be coerced into being somewhat useful.

Xander can heal, though his healing is more "I take your wounds, make them my own, and then heal them with my own personal regeneration." He can heal a lot of damage and bring people back from the brink of death. It's not as fun as it sounds, but he is useful in that fashion...but he's got a bit of triage knowledge, too.

He's got some medicinal herbs growing in his garden in the greenhouse car, though that's really neither here nor there.

Saash can do some basic healing, but it's more like "cuts, bruises, and scrapes" for the most part, since if I recall correctly it can potentially use her own life force for more.
thawed_pride: (Nort-My patience is wearing thin.)

[personal profile] thawed_pride 2021-04-27 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Vexen can do magic healing, up to and including 'yeah, you were clinically dead for a few minutes there, but now you're fine'. Presumably there's some sort of time limit on that, though, or else a lot of characters' backstory trauma gets kind of ridiculous.

He is also capable of diagnosing/treating common illnesses, and can perform general surgery. And he's been studying psychology/counseling, with a focus toward anxiety, because yikes.

He's been taking shifts in medical already, and is quite willing to continue to do so. He can act in a supervisory role, and in fact might take charge out of habit in a stressful situation, but since he doesn't entirely trust himself, he won't be looking for any actual authority. He will, however, make it known that he can teleport. Technically he can take others with him as well, but unless they're cloaked in the right protective clothing, it's...highly emotionally distressing for the passenger, and thus is reserved for outright emergencies.

Fifteen minutes late without Starbucks, but! Ryo is a healer who is capable of magical healing and skilled in field medicine, and he's willing to teach the latter. He's also got an herb patch with herbs from back home, and he makes various medicines from those, though he tends not to share those around, since some of them can be incredibly dangerous if used incorrectly.
