Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

What to do on a train.

The problem with trains is you are unable to get off them. Whilst hurtling through an ever changing void that’s probably a good thing all told but it can lead to boredom. Or at least it does if you don’t think creatively enough!

What can you do in a standard coach? Well the obvious, most practical use is a comfy place to sit, in relative solitude as long as no one sits too close. Read a book if you’ve the points to buy one, or write in your journal.

But thinking outside the box a standard coach is also a pretty good climbing course, up and down over the rows of seats, there’s even gaps under the seats if you want to add to the challenge. Or you could just play the floor is lava.

Escorting Dralite

Dralite: Small, bat like creatures. As chicks they are about the size of a beach ball, however it soon becomes apparent that they are predominantly made of wings. Unfurled the creature is tiny with massive wings, spanning a meter long each. It is obvious why they need an escort, they cannot yet fly and their movement is severely hampered by their disproportionate wing size. They will happily cling to any friendly creatures.

Adult dralite are about the size of a sheep with large wings and large claws. They are teritorial but not overtly hostile unless provoked.

Dralite have a screech that will floor most creatures, knocking them down disoriented. As chicks their screech will stun, giving them time to escape from danger.

This world has a sizable colony and a group of humans who preserve and look after the huge dralite nests. However it seems like a group of chicks have gone missing, poachers are suspected, probably planning on selling the chicks off world.

Team One Is to track down the missing dralite. There are clues, footprints, other tracks and rumours of an unauthorised camp of humans in the area. Follow the tracks, check out the camp, see if you can find who took the dralite chicks and where they are being kept.

Team Two Is to rescue the chicks by any means necessary. Be that sneaking in and stealing them back or bursting in to challenge the poachers and put an end to their operation once and for all.

Team Three The remaining chicks still need looked after, especially with many of the volunteers helping hunt down the missing ones. They are needy creatures that cannot mover very far on their own so rely on clinging to other species to get around. You might just find yourself with a new dralite hat or cloak clinging to you, trying to get comfy. They shriek whenever they are afraid or don’t get their way and are likely to wrap their wings around your head if things get too scary. Good luck!

Around the Campfire

Once the chicks are back safe and sound it is time for a celebration. A huge BBQ and campfire is set up for a tasty feast. Just remember to share the meat with your new dralite friends or they will get sad and sulky and that could lead to trouble.

There’s lots of food and afterwards the dralite conservationists will tell stories around the fire, inviting the trekkers to do the same. Wanting to know of the different worlds they have been to, the adventures they’ve been on. Or if real life tale telling is not for you then they will settle for a good ghost story.

"Better you have story Elves than no Elves at all!" chuckled Curufin.

And then he spoke again to the three charas. "You do seem happy about this adventure," he said. "Miki, you're drawing me? Can I see the drawing when you're done?"

"I guess so." What was she supposed to say to that? Ugh, why did adults make conversation so hard?

Miki nodded.

Adults didn't mean to make conversation hard, but it seemed that at times there were differences in the viewpoints of adults and children or adolescents. "Don't worry, that was a joke," he explained. "Not all universes have Elves, and though I'd miss my kind if none were here, a universe without Elves can be a perfectly good universe."

And then of course he had to ask: "So, what's the story on these charming little persons who cluster around you? I'm curious."

And then he said to Miki, wondering, "So, how come you picked me for a subject? Or do you just work on your drawing all the time, and draw whoever or whatever is near you?"

"Miki likes to paint cute older guys!" Ran said cheerfully.

It was hard to say which of them was blushing more after that, Ran or Amu. Amu tried to answer his other question to change the subject. "Um, so apparently all kids have an egg in their soul, the egg of our hearts, our would be selves. Sometimes when we desperately want to be something we're not yet or have a strong dream that egg shows itself and hatches. Or something."

"That's how we were born!"

Ran nodded. "We're Amu's who she wants to be! There is one more of us, but Dia's asleep right now."

"So I'm a cute older guy, eh?" He had to laugh. At 2800 years of age, he certainly qualified as an older guy.

Buy he turned his attention to Amu to aid her in her task of changing the subject. "So these three are your dream-selves? Wonderful."

And then back to Ran and Su. "It sounds as though you enjoy your lives very much! And I'd like to meet Dia too. Later, I guess."

Miki hid behind her sketch pad, still drawing.

"Somedays I wonder why," Amu muttered.

Curufin was tempted to get behind Miki so he could catch a glimpse of her work, but that wouldn't be fair. Besides, she needed him in front of her.

He spoke to Amu: "Do you mean why these little persons enjoy their lives, or how you came to have them for company?"

That was me misreading. Wow dyslexia makes life... odd. >.< Rolling with it.

Amu sighed a bit and shook her head. "I just woke up one morning to three eggs in my bed with me. They've been with me ever since."

"That must have been strange," he said. "But how nice, to have these three as friends!"

[amu_chan]

She smiled weakly. "I guess so."

[so_dark_a_road]

"I guess you won't be bored here, with them for company. And they go everywhere you go? Or do they have someplace to disappear to, if they want to take a break?"

This was most interesting, this friendship between Amu and her little companions.

[amu_chan]

"When they need a break they generally go into their eggs, but they can have their own adventures so long as they're not gone too long." She gave Su a look.

"Su keeps getting lost or kidnapped," Ran explained.

"Su, you must be the adventurous one, then," said Curufin, with a smile.

[amu_chan]

"That would be Ran, actually," amu said dryly. "Su just keeps getting distracted and then lost."

[so_dark_a_road]

"All right, Ran's the adventurous one, then," he said, chuckling. "But what do you get distracted by, Su?"

[amu_chan]

Since Su was busy cleaning the top of one of the windows and hadn't heard him, Amu and the other two charas just pointed to her.

Curufin laughed softly. He saw how Su could get distracted.

Although he did get up to check to see if the windows were tightly sealed, not wanting Su to accidentally bump one open and fall out into the Void.

Could the windows even open? Because if they could, yes Su would be the one to fall outside.... Su looked up as he came over. "Did you want to help me clean? Thank you!" She handed him a tiny dust cloth.

Curufin checked the windows and found them to be sealed tight with no visible means to open them.

He smiled at Su. "All right, I'll help you clean." He took the little dust cloth, which was hardly large enough to cover the palm of his hand, and began to polish the window next to hers.

She gave him a bright smile and started singing while they worked.

The others winced at her off key singing. Amu put hands over her own ears and muttered. "It had to be an Utau song, didn't it...."

Curufin smiled back at Su and continued cleaning. He smiled at the others, too, when they winced at the singing. He tried to pick up the melody and started to hum along.

Which I suspect, sounded much better than Su's attempts....

Despite herself, Amu found herself murmuring the lyric line, singing under her breath. She wasn't as bad as Su, but she wasn't great.

And now there were three voices in this soft chorus. Curufin made no judgements about anybody's voice; he merely used his skills to sing or hum backup to the other two.

He gave them both the thumbs up sign and continued cleaning and humming.

Amu found herself helping to clean, and singing a bit more. Ran grabbed a cloth and helped as well. Miki kept sketching.

Even as he was singing and cleaning, Curufin glanced from time to time at Miki. He was going to be most interested to see the result of her efforts.
