Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

What to do on a train.

The problem with trains is you are unable to get off them. Whilst hurtling through an ever changing void that’s probably a good thing all told but it can lead to boredom. Or at least it does if you don’t think creatively enough!

What can you do in a standard coach? Well the obvious, most practical use is a comfy place to sit, in relative solitude as long as no one sits too close. Read a book if you’ve the points to buy one, or write in your journal.

But thinking outside the box a standard coach is also a pretty good climbing course, up and down over the rows of seats, there’s even gaps under the seats if you want to add to the challenge. Or you could just play the floor is lava.

Escorting Dralite

Dralite: Small, bat like creatures. As chicks they are about the size of a beach ball, however it soon becomes apparent that they are predominantly made of wings. Unfurled the creature is tiny with massive wings, spanning a meter long each. It is obvious why they need an escort, they cannot yet fly and their movement is severely hampered by their disproportionate wing size. They will happily cling to any friendly creatures.

Adult dralite are about the size of a sheep with large wings and large claws. They are teritorial but not overtly hostile unless provoked.

Dralite have a screech that will floor most creatures, knocking them down disoriented. As chicks their screech will stun, giving them time to escape from danger.

This world has a sizable colony and a group of humans who preserve and look after the huge dralite nests. However it seems like a group of chicks have gone missing, poachers are suspected, probably planning on selling the chicks off world.

Team One Is to track down the missing dralite. There are clues, footprints, other tracks and rumours of an unauthorised camp of humans in the area. Follow the tracks, check out the camp, see if you can find who took the dralite chicks and where they are being kept.

Team Two Is to rescue the chicks by any means necessary. Be that sneaking in and stealing them back or bursting in to challenge the poachers and put an end to their operation once and for all.

Team Three The remaining chicks still need looked after, especially with many of the volunteers helping hunt down the missing ones. They are needy creatures that cannot mover very far on their own so rely on clinging to other species to get around. You might just find yourself with a new dralite hat or cloak clinging to you, trying to get comfy. They shriek whenever they are afraid or don’t get their way and are likely to wrap their wings around your head if things get too scary. Good luck!

Around the Campfire

Once the chicks are back safe and sound it is time for a celebration. A huge BBQ and campfire is set up for a tasty feast. Just remember to share the meat with your new dralite friends or they will get sad and sulky and that could lead to trouble.

There’s lots of food and afterwards the dralite conservationists will tell stories around the fire, inviting the trekkers to do the same. Wanting to know of the different worlds they have been to, the adventures they’ve been on. Or if real life tale telling is not for you then they will settle for a good ghost story.

He smiled when the paper changes sizes. Clearly, these little persons were magical in many ways.

"I will be very pleased to have this drawing. I'll pin it up over my bunk. Will you sign it, so everybody can know what a good artist you are?"

She flushed with pleasure and nodded. She set the picture against a wall and the other charas came to hold it in place so she could sign the bottom with a flourish of blue ink. She signed her own name, not Amu's.

Curufin took a moment to just stand and look at the drawing and enjoy the way the other two charas were framing it with their helpful little hands. And he liked the way Miki took credit for her work by signing her own name to it. "It's beautiful," he said.

Amu stood off to the side, watching, a small smile on her face.

Miki rolled up the drawing carefully and handed it to Curufin.

"Thank you," said Curufin to Miki. "I will treasure this." He took the rolled-up drawing and held it as though it were something precious.

He glanced at Amu to let her know how much he appreciated her as well as these charming little persons she brought with her.

Amu flushed slightly, then looked at her feet. "So... what now?"

"I don't know," said Curufin. "What do you think? What should we do next?"

[amu_chan]

She shrugged, and some of her attitude came back. It was a defense mechanism that she really wished she could be rid of. "If I knew I wouldn't have asked," she said, hand going to her hip as she raised narrowed eyes at him.

He smiled. He liked attitude.

"How about if we finish cleaning the windows? I'll bet the people who have to sit in the carriages with nothing to do but look out the windows might appreciate that."

"Ugh," she said grabbing her cloth back. "It isn't like they're paying us for this, you know."

"True, they're not paying us, so far as I know. Are you saying you'd rather find something else to do, or are you still willing to clean windows?"

[amu_chan]

"Depends what you've got. If your only other idea is cleaning floors, pass."

[so_dark_a_road]

"I think we'll leave the floors to someone else," he chuckles.

[amu_chan]

"Then what?"

[so_dark_a_road]

"We'll clean the windows and then go off and find some hot chocolate. Or something."

[amu_chan]

"It better be good hot cocoa," she muttered, getting back to cleaning windows.

"Amu loves cocoa!" Ran informed him.

"Traitor," she muttered, flushing slightly under her scowl.

"I'm sure it will be good," said Curufin with a smile.

And then, to Ran: "Oh, does she? I think everybody loves cocoa. Even me, and I tasted very little of it before I left my own world. The cacao beans it's made from wouldn't grow so far north as my home was."

"Don't worry," he said to Amu. "I'm sure your little charas have your best interests at heart. Also, I'm buying."

He kept at the windows until he couldn't find any more dirty glass anywhere.

She grumbled and kept working.

"Amu doesn't like when people know she likes things," Su said happily as she cleaned.

Amu looked like she wanted to strangler her charas. Who were floating juuuust out of reach.

Curufin looked curiously at Amu. "What troubles you about people knowing what you like?" he asked. Clearly, the charas had dealt with this issue before, and that must be why they had moved out of reach.

[amu_chan]

She grumbled a bit more and tossed down her rag. "What does it matter if it bothers me?" she asked, defensive.

"Amu's just shy."

"And kids back home keep getting gifts for the Guardians."

"Or trying to emulate them."

"And Amu gets embarrassed and they all think she's cool because of it, and then like her more."

Glaring at them all she picked up her cloth and stalked off to work on other windows. Mostly to hide the fact that she was beat red. And since she only blushed on the front of her face, it actually did hide the blush well.

"It matters to me," said Curufin. "And I'm curious as to why you are bothered if people like you, but your charas seem to have an angle on that."

He said to Ran, Su, and Miki, "Some people are made uneasy by attention, and therefore gifts, emulation, and affection make them even more uncomfortable. I guess that Amu is one such. It is all right; not everybody has to overcome such shyness. It's just a part of them."

He thought of following Amu, just to let her know that he was not put off by her embarrassment, but he decided to wait for a few minutes, so as not to make her more uncomfortable than she already was.

"But she wants to have friends and be friends with people! That's why we were born!"

[so_dark_a_road]

He smiled at Ran. "So, if that's what she wants, then you three are obviously doing your best to help her. I think that's wonderful."

[amu_chan]

"Thanks!"

"You're welcome. And you deserve thanks."
