Test Drive Meme 003

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

What to do on a train.

The problem with trains is you are unable to get off them. Whilst hurtling through an ever changing void that’s probably a good thing all told but it can lead to boredom. Or at least it does if you don’t think creatively enough!

What can you do in a standard coach? Well the obvious, most practical use is a comfy place to sit, in relative solitude as long as no one sits too close. Read a book if you’ve the points to buy one, or write in your journal.

But thinking outside the box a standard coach is also a pretty good climbing course, up and down over the rows of seats, there’s even gaps under the seats if you want to add to the challenge. Or you could just play the floor is lava.

Escorting Dralite

Dralite: Small, bat like creatures. As chicks they are about the size of a beach ball, however it soon becomes apparent that they are predominantly made of wings. Unfurled the creature is tiny with massive wings, spanning a meter long each. It is obvious why they need an escort, they cannot yet fly and their movement is severely hampered by their disproportionate wing size. They will happily cling to any friendly creatures.

Adult dralite are about the size of a sheep with large wings and large claws. They are teritorial but not overtly hostile unless provoked.

Dralite have a screech that will floor most creatures, knocking them down disoriented. As chicks their screech will stun, giving them time to escape from danger.

This world has a sizable colony and a group of humans who preserve and look after the huge dralite nests. However it seems like a group of chicks have gone missing, poachers are suspected, probably planning on selling the chicks off world.

Team One Is to track down the missing dralite. There are clues, footprints, other tracks and rumours of an unauthorised camp of humans in the area. Follow the tracks, check out the camp, see if you can find who took the dralite chicks and where they are being kept.

Team Two Is to rescue the chicks by any means necessary. Be that sneaking in and stealing them back or bursting in to challenge the poachers and put an end to their operation once and for all.

Team Three The remaining chicks still need looked after, especially with many of the volunteers helping hunt down the missing ones. They are needy creatures that cannot mover very far on their own so rely on clinging to other species to get around. You might just find yourself with a new dralite hat or cloak clinging to you, trying to get comfy. They shriek whenever they are afraid or don’t get their way and are likely to wrap their wings around your head if things get too scary. Good luck!

Around the Campfire

Once the chicks are back safe and sound it is time for a celebration. A huge BBQ and campfire is set up for a tasty feast. Just remember to share the meat with your new dralite friends or they will get sad and sulky and that could lead to trouble.

There’s lots of food and afterwards the dralite conservationists will tell stories around the fire, inviting the trekkers to do the same. Wanting to know of the different worlds they have been to, the adventures they’ve been on. Or if real life tale telling is not for you then they will settle for a good ghost story.

Ple Two's instinctive first question would be 'what the hell?' but that doesn't seem very productive. That seems like a horribly inefficient way to operate a school.

"Does anyone actually learn anything there?" seems like the next best way of getting that across.

"Oh, yes! We learned quite a lot!" She giggled a little. "The classes went along like any other school, but we would gamble over our lunches and after classes released for the day. I guess you could say that gambling was our cram school." Her voice was quite cheery as she said it, as if nothing about it was strange.

"Really, it was about the same as any high class elite school~" She didn't really like to talk about the fact that it was a school for people with money, but it definitely was - and the gambling was for stakes with the family checkbook.

So they went to regular classes, and then gambled over social status during lunch and, what, for school clubs? "Didn't you have any normal extracurriculars?" she asked. But ah, 'high class elite' school. More money than brains, the whole mess of them, probably.

"Hm? Of course! We had a traditional culture research club, a photography club, a library club, a swordfighting club, a literature club..." She trailed off. It was clear there were more, but she didn't want spend a lot of time saying them all. Many of them were involved with the gambling, but not all of them.

"If you think about it, though, the gambling really is important. It is a better measure of status than sports. All of the students are the children of those that are well to do, and they are future leaders." The idea behind this is that extracirriculars are not necessary for those in power, or so it was thought. "Gambling requires you to be strategic, be able to read your opponent, and be able to take victory even when the cards are stacked against you." Literally and figuratively. "So it's not just all fun and games, you know."

Normal lessons, normal clubs, stratification through gambling. The normalcy around it just made the core all that stranger.

"So you choose games with little to no luck involved?" Luck was no learnable skill, and it could turn around in an instant. "Otherwise, it would be far too inconsistent for the real world." Even then, this was the sort of thing only the spoiled children of those leaders could seem to invent.

"The amount of luck depends on the game chosen, and the game is chosen before everyone agrees to participate, so it just depends on the agreement made. I think that games that rely on luck are the most fun simply because they aren't predictable!" Her spirits lifted at the idea of a pure luck game, such as a coin toss. "And the thought of putting it all on the line and possibly losing it all because of a little bad luck is truly the best feeling in the world! The most thrilling!"

The excitement wasn't very long lived, however, as she grew an edge and a shadow cast over her face. "Besides, most games that seem to be random can be rigged, and cheating is part of the game too. The next best thing is catching a cheater in the act and turning the game around so the cheat causes them to lose." Stacking decks, seemingly dangerous games where nobody is in danger, a trick set for a game, hidden players that would try to throw the game. She'd caught it all so far and she'd lain every cheater bare.

Slowly but surely, Ple Two is putting together her mental image of this woman.

It is not a flattering one. Obsessed with dangerous thrills, especially those where mere chance put her fate on the line; and cheating to turn those odds in her favor, or catching others cheating and destroying them. Yumeko is a bit frightening, altogether. "Do you prefer to cheat, or to outplay cheaters by revealing them? Or is it simply a matter of both sides cheating and trying to reveal one-another?"
luckygamble: (huh)

[personal profile] luckygamble 2019-08-19 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
The question of if Yumeko liked to cheat surprised her. It hadn't quite occurred to her someone may consider her a cheater, given her reputation at school being the one to explain everyone's tricks. The surprise lasted for a few moments before she composed herself.

"I don't cheat, and I do my best to reveal those who cheat and the tricks they use. Cheating may be part of the game, yes, but I would prefer if people were honest. Stacking the cards against people to get a cheap win is no fun. I enjoy the challenge to win with cards stacked against me, but there are many people who don't catch on to that type of lie." While she entirely loved the risks involved with fighting what should be a losing game, she did not really like people who cheat. She particularly relished winning against cheaters and shaming them by the loss.

Given the circumstances, it really just meant that Ple Two may or may not sit down to a card game with her, if she ever learned one. It would also give her an idea of what kind of resource, exactly, Yumeko could be to those aboard this train.

Fortunately, she was the sort to avoid cheating and expose those who did so. ...by her own words. "I imagine you enjoy catching those cheaters too. Isn't it more fun, then, if some people keep cheating?"
