Test Drive Meme 013

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Training Gym

Fight club have finally gotten a gym to train in. Train carriages make strange gyms, long narrow spaces. But this has mats, balance beams, climbing apparatus. Pads and training dummies for punching. It also has large blocks that look a little like what you might find in a children's play centre but can be used to make obstacle courses or provide cover in training exercises.

Set up a course, practice fighting or try and learn how to throw a punch! There are plenty who will help, people who take training super seriously and let's face it, people who want to ambush others from behind oversized foam blocks.

Games

For those for whom fighting is not an idea of fun, or those wanting more relaxation, the games carriage has a whole collection of different games. Board games, card games, dice games. There are many games about trains but they aren't the only type.

There are low tables in the carriage to set a game up on and plenty of beanbags and cushions to sit on. Grab a game, grab a friend or a complete stranger and get playing!

Water Maze

The latest mission has taken the voidtreckers to an underwater maze. They have been given wet suits, helmets and breathing apparatus- lightweight boxes that strap to their back, connect to their helmet and filter air from the water. A powerful and dangerous artifact has been stolen and the race is on to get it back before it is used for ill.

Team One

Plenty of monsters and foes have been sent to try and retrieve the item. Giant crabs, strange eels. Even people with fish tails and the ability to breathe underwater. All are dangerous foes and fighting underwater is difficult.

But team one are the vanguard, keeping the monster levels low to allow team two to push on through the maze.

Team Two

Hopefully team one will deal with the monsters, but the odd one might sneak through. Team two's main job is to solve the maze, because the thief is in the centre in order to perform his ritual.

It's a race against time, the maze is made of coral and walls of seaweed that are impossible to cut through. Solving it requires a quick mind and some determined swimming.

Team Three

For those not wishing to brave the water, or those whose skills lie more in helping others. The island where the artefact was stolen from needs help. The temple was ransacked and some of the islanders were injured. Help them fix their homes, put the temple back to rights, tend to the injured.

Cleaning the temple is a big job, but hopefully by the time the artefact has been retrieved it will be able to be restored to it's rightful place.

He shakes his hands out, dissipating the smoke that he'd produced. He needs to be careful, he's noticed his bending is much weaker in this void than it is anywhere. It's almost like during the eclipse when his bending was completely gone.

Still, he's glad of Toph's presence. She's familiar, welcome, something from home.

"There's earth in the greenhouse. Have you tried in there?" He asks, drying his sweaty face with a towel. He would never suggest that she's having trouble. Ever. She'd kick his butt. But, he does notice that she's having more trouble than she's letting on. He wouldn't let anyone know about his lack of bending either. It's a dangerous place they've found themselves in, and better to be cautious than to be giving away all their secrets.

He holds out a hand to her. "Come on. We'll go investigate." Nope, not suggesting she needs his help, but he's offering it anyway.

Likewise! ;)

"There's a little earth in the greenhouse," she notes. "Not that much. And people get all picky about their flowers and stuff."

Read: She'd already ticked a couple of people off trying and possibly lying in a flowerbed. So much good earth lying around, and people plant flowers in it. What is that?

But she's fully willing to go to the greenhouse, too. It's a place where she can at least see right, and like Zuko, it feels familiar. There's the loamy scent of earth, and she at least feels in her element. Metal is okay, but it's definitely less malleable, more unyielding, and she's still learning it. Maybe there will be something different this time. Maybe Zuko can glower away the flower people. He's good at that.

"I'll follow you." Ignoring the hand for now, apparently. Totally a pride thing.

. . . He may want to keep an eye on her, though. There's no guarantee she won't run into something.

Are you thinking of apping?

Zuko huffs. He'll make sure she has earth, if he has to firebend people away from the greenhouse. Obviously, he doesn't care if they're put out by her needing time in there, just so she can see. People will just have to get over it, or they can talk to him. While he can't 'bend much, he doesn't need to to kick someone's butt.

He glances over his shoulder at her, and gently nudges her in the right direction when she almost runs into something. Nothing he wouldn't do for anybody else, obviously.

He slides open the door to the greenhouse car and looks around. No one. Good. He's not in the mood to deal with people being cranky about what he feels is right. He finds a place to sit and leans his head back against one of the flower boxes. "My 'bending doesn't work on this train." He admits. "It's not as bad as an eclipse, but it might as well be."

Tempted -- trying to decide if I can manage it. (And refresh/keep Toph's voice.)

Zuko is a good friend. Toph knows that, even if she's not aware of the extent he'd actually go to get her some earth. It is, though, why she doesn't protest too much when he nudges her in the right direction, just giving a little huff of her own. It's probably more for the situation than anything else. Metal is different. Where sand made for fuzziness, metal is bright and clear and too sharp, seismic sense bouncing off and making confusing echoes that obscure objects or make vibratory "ghosts."

Annoying as hell.

As they come into the greenhouse area, everything is suddenly, blessedly clear, and Toph flops with a happy sigh into a (mostly) unplanted raised flowerbox, wriggling a little. "After all this, I don't think I'll ever take land for granted again."

The glee doesn't last for too long, though, as he speaks. She pauses mid-wriggle, lifting her head. "Your bending doesn't work?"

. . . That's a wild idea. Firebending always seemed like something you can take anywhere.

Then again, earthbending did too before suddenly there wasn't any earth.

What he mentions about the eclipse, though . . . it makes sense. She rolls herself to the side, propping herself up on her elbow. "Because there's no sun?"

Well, if you ever wanna psl/meme, poke me, even if you don't bring her to VT :)

Zuko tries. He wouldn't call himself a good friend. Not after all he's done. He's obviously done better the last month or so, with helping Aang and the others prepare for the fight against his father. But, he has a lot to make up for too.

Zuko lets out a huffed laugh as he puts his arms on his upraised knees. He doesn't have his swords with him, and he's thought about carrying them on the train, but that just seems like a bad idea. He has to play along with these people, until such a time as the pair of them can get off this damned thing.

"It works, but not as well. I can still heat a cup of tea, or my bath water, but that's about it. And even that? Tires me out." He sighs. "It must be. It isn't fair." He slams the side of his fist against the box he's sitting next to. "I finally get my bending back, after visiting the dragons, finally find my uncle again, finally feel prepared to take on Azula and someone kidnaps me!" Another slam of his fist, rattling the box slightly.

<3! /may take you up on that

Toph thinks he's pretty good. A little whiny, overdramatic, and angsty sometimes, but also loyal, skilled, good-hearted, and honest, and that tips the scale well in his favor.

"I get it," she says quietly. "I came from the night before we were supposed to attack the Fire Nation. We were all ready, getting our last night of sleep, and poof, there I am getting jerked some place my bending doesn't work. Aang and the others, they're all there, and here I am, sitting on my butt and not even able to see two feet around me, running into stuff like I'm two again unless someone pulls me out of the way. I can kick anyone's butt with earthbending, I made metalbending, and nope, poof, I'm two and might as well be the fragile little doll my parents always wanted me to be."

Even more quietly: "I feel fragile. And it sucks."

None of this is probably stuff he didn't already know, but she's saying it aloud, and for Toph, that's something.

Fragile? Yeah, he can see why that would bother her. He still doesn't see her as fragile. Mainly because she'd handed him his ass far too many times.

Granted, there was that time he'd burned her feet, but that had been an accident. He sighs, and leans his head back. "You're not fragile." He says quietly. "You could probably still take me." No, she probably couldn't because he did have the advantage of sight, but she deserves to feel capable.

"Before or during the comet?" He asks, curious.
