Test Drive Meme 013

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Training Gym

Fight club have finally gotten a gym to train in. Train carriages make strange gyms, long narrow spaces. But this has mats, balance beams, climbing apparatus. Pads and training dummies for punching. It also has large blocks that look a little like what you might find in a children's play centre but can be used to make obstacle courses or provide cover in training exercises.

Set up a course, practice fighting or try and learn how to throw a punch! There are plenty who will help, people who take training super seriously and let's face it, people who want to ambush others from behind oversized foam blocks.

Games

For those for whom fighting is not an idea of fun, or those wanting more relaxation, the games carriage has a whole collection of different games. Board games, card games, dice games. There are many games about trains but they aren't the only type.

There are low tables in the carriage to set a game up on and plenty of beanbags and cushions to sit on. Grab a game, grab a friend or a complete stranger and get playing!

Water Maze

The latest mission has taken the voidtreckers to an underwater maze. They have been given wet suits, helmets and breathing apparatus- lightweight boxes that strap to their back, connect to their helmet and filter air from the water. A powerful and dangerous artifact has been stolen and the race is on to get it back before it is used for ill.

Team One

Plenty of monsters and foes have been sent to try and retrieve the item. Giant crabs, strange eels. Even people with fish tails and the ability to breathe underwater. All are dangerous foes and fighting underwater is difficult.

But team one are the vanguard, keeping the monster levels low to allow team two to push on through the maze.

Team Two

Hopefully team one will deal with the monsters, but the odd one might sneak through. Team two's main job is to solve the maze, because the thief is in the centre in order to perform his ritual.

It's a race against time, the maze is made of coral and walls of seaweed that are impossible to cut through. Solving it requires a quick mind and some determined swimming.

Team Three

For those not wishing to brave the water, or those whose skills lie more in helping others. The island where the artefact was stolen from needs help. The temple was ransacked and some of the islanders were injured. Help them fix their homes, put the temple back to rights, tend to the injured.

Cleaning the temple is a big job, but hopefully by the time the artefact has been retrieved it will be able to be restored to it's rightful place.

By this point, the sound of sweeping had faded into a kind of "so familiar you don't even notice it" thing, much like the sound of the ocean that he had been used to. And, alarmingly quick, the lack of the sound of the ocean here. So it does surprise him a bit when the other person in this carriage speaks up. Also because he is still not used to people actually talking to him. But Mirele is not as sure of how long that will take to get used to.

"Oh. I was...wondering about that. And the selection they have here, I was wondering about those too, a bit..." Trailing off as he finally just picks one that seems maybe a little bit close to what he's used to, he finds the instructions easy enough to follow. Which is good, because he doesn't necessarily want to ask someone for help with tea.

He also doesn't necessarily want to just end a conversation there, because much like tea bags, conversation is a new and strange thing that he rarely experienced before this. After a few seconds of stirring (barely at all, just in case), he'll pipe up again. "So, you've done that before, I figure? The...breaking the bag, I mean. Which you mentioned."

He's trying.

"I have. I guess I just got too wrapped up in my reading..." He laughed at his own ridiculous story. "Enough not to think about how gritty my drink was until I got to the dregs and ended up spluttering all over my pages, anyway."

Leaning his broom against the table, Sven invited himself to the seat opposite Mirele and reached for the box his fellow Voidtrecker had finally selected as his choice beverage, turning it in his hands.

"Huh, don't think I've tried this one yet. I had no idea there were so many different kinds of tea before I ended up here, but if you're looking for a recommendation for the future, I'd try the ginger. It's got kick."

He actually laughs at that recollection-- and then almost immediately looks a bit guilty. "Sorry, that was...probably terrible for you. And for the book." Because...well, it's true. Someone has to worry about the book.

As Sven inspects the box of orange tea, Mirele nods slowly. "I didn't know about any of these before, but...this one seemed close to what I'm used to. I hope, anyway. It, ah...has a picture of what looks like a fruit on it--" Which he points to, helpfully, in case Sven is as unaware of oranges as Mirele himself is. "So it seemed nice, at least, that's what I think. I'll let you know, though. If it is or isn't."

Though, something Sven said was a bit...odd. "When you said 'it's got kick,' what did you mean?" It's not something he's heard before, and he'd really like to be sure if this person is offering something good or bad. Probably good, right? It makes sense, if he's using that as a reason to recommend it, but he's not sure, and he really would like to be.

"Yeah, it was, uh, pretty hard on the paper." Though he was still chuckling, he grimaced just a little. "Fortunately it didn't smudge the text, but if you happen upon a book with tea-stained pages, it's probably my fault. I felt like an utter fool at the time."

As well as terribly guilty. He'd never have dreamt of treating a book so carelessly as to drink next to it back home. The books in the train's library, with its sorry, slanting shelves, seemed devoid of love. A little of that lovelessness might have rubbed off on him, despite the years of his life he devoted to transcribing and translating page upon page. Maybe he should fix it up a bit, mend the leaning sides of the bookcase, dust off the shelves and alphabetise their contents to say sorry to the books for his colossal sin.

"Oh, this? This is an orange." He said of the cheerfully bright fruit on the carton. "I can recognise the smell, now. The ginger is good though. It's, uh...you know how spicy food has 'heat' to it? It's not really spicy, but it's got a similar kind of...zingy warmth. I can imagine it'd probably be great to drink if you had a throat cold or had strained your voice."
