Test Drive Meme 013

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Training Gym

Fight club have finally gotten a gym to train in. Train carriages make strange gyms, long narrow spaces. But this has mats, balance beams, climbing apparatus. Pads and training dummies for punching. It also has large blocks that look a little like what you might find in a children's play centre but can be used to make obstacle courses or provide cover in training exercises.

Set up a course, practice fighting or try and learn how to throw a punch! There are plenty who will help, people who take training super seriously and let's face it, people who want to ambush others from behind oversized foam blocks.

Games

For those for whom fighting is not an idea of fun, or those wanting more relaxation, the games carriage has a whole collection of different games. Board games, card games, dice games. There are many games about trains but they aren't the only type.

There are low tables in the carriage to set a game up on and plenty of beanbags and cushions to sit on. Grab a game, grab a friend or a complete stranger and get playing!

Water Maze

The latest mission has taken the voidtreckers to an underwater maze. They have been given wet suits, helmets and breathing apparatus- lightweight boxes that strap to their back, connect to their helmet and filter air from the water. A powerful and dangerous artifact has been stolen and the race is on to get it back before it is used for ill.

Team One

Plenty of monsters and foes have been sent to try and retrieve the item. Giant crabs, strange eels. Even people with fish tails and the ability to breathe underwater. All are dangerous foes and fighting underwater is difficult.

But team one are the vanguard, keeping the monster levels low to allow team two to push on through the maze.

Team Two

Hopefully team one will deal with the monsters, but the odd one might sneak through. Team two's main job is to solve the maze, because the thief is in the centre in order to perform his ritual.

It's a race against time, the maze is made of coral and walls of seaweed that are impossible to cut through. Solving it requires a quick mind and some determined swimming.

Team Three

For those not wishing to brave the water, or those whose skills lie more in helping others. The island where the artefact was stolen from needs help. The temple was ransacked and some of the islanders were injured. Help them fix their homes, put the temple back to rights, tend to the injured.

Cleaning the temple is a big job, but hopefully by the time the artefact has been retrieved it will be able to be restored to it's rightful place.

Hand to hand is wonderful, Allen!

[Satou hops as she says his name, as if that somehow communicates how glad she is to see him. After being ripped away to a new world again, it's reassuring to have a friend to ground her. Especially a friend that she can spar with!]

Hmm. And maaybe. But don't you go easy on me, okay? Gimme everything you've got!

She nods a bit, a spark flowing from her fingers to the cylinder, a blue flame coming out from it to the kettle.

"It is probably better that way. Mastery of a single element is doable by anyone who has the discipline, dealing with 4, 5, or 6.... That would take a prodigy, or more time than most people have. Oh, if you want, I found some tea here, it isn't anything special but it isn't as bitter as the bean juice most people seem to like to drink. That and I kind of find the art of making it helps me focus."

"I do hope we won't be here decades," Webmind says, in what is a similarly dry tone - or so he hopes.

"And while I wouldn't know what reason someone could have for bringing us in particular onto this void train, I do agree: never underestimate the power of compassion, or empathy."

He was no religious Internet... though, times like this made him question the existence of coincidence, or at least serendipity.

[ She had gotten used to the people around here being relatively okay with powers, that she's kind of forgotten that these things can actually freak people out. So she can't exactly fault him for that...but it still hurts a bit. ]

No, I'm not a ghost.

[ ...okay, maybe it hurts a lot, but she's used to that too. ]

Sorry.

[ Placing Kaseri down, she turns to go back to her own training. ]

So far the training room hasn't been worth too much for Toph. There's not exactly earth hanging out on a train, and so there's nothing for her to bend. Earthbending isn't like firebending, after all, where you can pull your element out of nowhere.

She isn't hanging around Zuko either because he's familiar and she's still working out seeing as well through metalbending. Nope. Definitely not.

"Nope," she replies, linking her fingers and stretching her arms above her head like it's all the most casual thing in the world. "What exactly am I supposed to bend in here, anyway? There isn't even a lot of spare metal lying around unless you count the train, and somehow I think they don't want me tearing holes into the void."

In other words, what should have been a great room for her is kind of boring. She's not annoyed by that. At all.

She sniffs a little. "Smells like you're smoking, Sparky."

He doesn't like the sound of that. He really doesn't. He needs off this train, to do what needs to be done to restore honor to the Fire Nation, to restore honor to his family to himself. He sighs. "That is frustrating." He doesn't need to say much more about it, now does he?

Even though Elena knows intellectually that Rufus had been cured, it’s still startling to see smooth, unblemished skin where she knows very well a mark had once been. Her eyes go wide, and she has to fight back the urge to exclaim in surprise. She can almost hear Tseng’s sharp voice in her head commanding her to calm down, though, so she does. Instead, she asks only one thing: “How?”

While Rufus contemplates his next move, Elena pulls out her notebook and flips to the page with relevant info.

“The train council...okay, here. It’s a group, elected by the other passengers, that tries to keep order on the train and handle everyone’s concerns. From what I’ve gathered, the election was some weeks before I got here. The members are...Tony Stark, President. Bucky, Curufin, Eva, Feanor, Kaiba, Nita, Nerdanel, Sarai, someone calling himself The Doctor, Ignis, and Yuffie Kisaragi from AVALANCHE.” She stumbles slightly over the elvish names, but it feels wonderful to be giving intel reports again.

“I believe their powers are actually quite limited, as there’s no evidence they have managed to communicate with whatever powers that be that operate the train.”

Rufus finally makes his move and Elena’s professional demeanor drops, just for a moment. “Wait, how did you...?!” Then she sees the wide open hole she’d left around her king in her eagerness to capture Rufus’s and groans. “...Oh, right. Excellent game, Mr. President.”

He flinches at the blue magic. It's not firebending, He can tell. But it is something. But he stops his forms, when she starts talking about the art of making tea.

He smiles just the tiniest bit. "My uncle always says that the concentration of making tea helps calm the dragon that we are as firebenders." He misses his uncle. "He's... somewhat of an expert on tea."

Oh, that's a new one! What kinda games has it got?

[ You might've been muttering to yourself, Zidane, but Tidus perks up in interest at the handheld device the guy holds, attention slipped from the magazine he brought in to read. Which he could've done anywhere but the game car, but does anywhere else have bean bags? No. ]
blitzcheer: (who needs an old man?)

I'm new at this. You mind?

[ But Tidus doesn't speak hesitantly, instead friendly, giving it more as a heads up for whatever the other blond wants to get out of this. But Tidus has been in there for a while that day trying to train his hand and leg work, particularly his kicks. ]

Zuko bows and takes his position. "Do you need either?" Zuko asks, tauntingly. Because he does not. He only needs his forms, as his uncle had told him time and time again. His body is the weapon. He's proven that more often than he hasn't. He wants to be sure this man understands though that he will not go easy on him.
restoredhonor: (Oops)

Zuko grimaces behind his mask. Really? Really? This guy had to know that his puns were not funny at all. He wonders why people think they're hilarious. Sokka sure does. But then Katara, Aang and Toph think he is too.

He shakes his head. He doesn't need help. The crab that he was fighting is gone though, so he moves on to the next. He wants to get out of the water, into the sunlight where he knows his bending will help, but this is where his team had been assigned. He needs to remember that it isn't about him. This is about helping people.

He shakes his hands out, dissipating the smoke that he'd produced. He needs to be careful, he's noticed his bending is much weaker in this void than it is anywhere. It's almost like during the eclipse when his bending was completely gone.

Still, he's glad of Toph's presence. She's familiar, welcome, something from home.

"There's earth in the greenhouse. Have you tried in there?" He asks, drying his sweaty face with a towel. He would never suggest that she's having trouble. Ever. She'd kick his butt. But, he does notice that she's having more trouble than she's letting on. He wouldn't let anyone know about his lack of bending either. It's a dangerous place they've found themselves in, and better to be cautious than to be giving away all their secrets.

He holds out a hand to her. "Come on. We'll go investigate." Nope, not suggesting she needs his help, but he's offering it anyway.

"When my sister and I joined the Aldore army..... I had to do most all of the cooking and such. I tried to make it back then, but it was basically hot leaf juice. Absolutely terrible sludge. The others in the unit made fun of how bad at it I was, but it was never malicious. After what the emperor did to us.... I figured I should learn to honor the ones that didn't make it."

She laughs a bit at that, but it is a horribly forced laugh.

"I found the peace in it helped me focus on my magical studies too."

Not that Toph would see the 10 foot tall coal black skinned man with burning red eyes as anything other than giant and heavy he stomps up behind her.

"Hoho! How is the water? It looks like you be wantin' a swim but not quite!"

There is a tick in his voice, "ZOGGING SHAME TO JUST STAND THERE LIKE THAT!"

"Nor did mine." Daine replied with an irritated sigh. "And apparently getting it back is impossible." It bothered her, that a place where she was supposed to fight, denied her the fight to have her weapons.

She looked toward the male who had spoken, blue-grey eyes darkened with anger, but she calmed herself with some effort. It wasn't this man's fault she couldn't get her bow back. It was this dratted contraptions fault. She offered him a small smile of apology.
wildmagick: (Default)

[personal profile] wildmagick 2020-06-17 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There was an odd tingle along her senses which brought Daine's head whipping around to see the girl approaching her before she'd even spoken. So far Daine had been doing her best to close herself down to the strange creatures and near-human's she found herself amidst, but she wasn't all-powerful and clearly she had limited to just how far she could shut her senses down.

The problem was she couldn't quite identify who, or what, these human's were. If they were human at all. She held her tongue in demanding to know and instead focused on what was said.

"I see..." She gave a shake of her head and sighed. "I was never very good at that." Of course she'd tried, spending as much time with the Queen's Riders you learned a thing or two. But it was by no means something she was good at, or competent enough to want to do.

"For a place that claims to cultivate heroes, it does little to train them as such." Daine muttered under her breath as she looked from the strange woman and back to the 'training room'.

[personal profile] wildmagick 2020-06-17 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That was definitely a baby dragon, and for once she spotted the cat before Daine did. With a cheerful trill the dragonet galloped over toward the table the cat sat upon and climbed up onto one of the seats. She rested her front paws, claws a shining silver, onto the table top and leaned to get a closer look at the creature. She chittered a question, though none could quite understand what she was saying. Daine did her best to interpret.

"She wants to know what you are." Daine, the dragon's human companion, approached with a curious smile. She'd reached out with her magic, just a thread, just to see if she could speak to this cat. She saw nothing of a 'normal' cat in this creature other than it's shape. "We've never seen a cat quite like you before."
wildmagick: (Default)

[personal profile] wildmagick 2020-06-17 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Daine gave a shake of her head and left Kitten to what she was doing. So long as she wasn't going to cause trouble for them it would be fine. She hoped...

She turned when spoken to and smiled in welcome, though the smile turned somewhat puzzled when she was introduced to a... stick? "My name is Veralidaine Sarrasri, Daine for short. And that..." She pointed toward the dragonet, who was currently inspecting small coloured tiles on a board." Is Kitten."
dustonmyfeet: (say what)

Oh, no, I think I like him. XD

[personal profile] dustonmyfeet 2020-06-17 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She may not be able to take in all the subtleties of his appearance -- no red eyes, no dark skin -- but oh, yes, she can feel him. 10 feet of man makes quite the impression, and her head shoots up, eyes widening. This guy is huge.

. . . And damn, has the voice to match. "I'm blind, not deaf," she retorts, rubbing an offended ear. That voice rattled the earth about as much as he does moving around.

"And the water sucks."

[personal profile] wildmagick 2020-06-17 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
While the animals here were alien to her, they were still animals. She struggled to find a means to communicate fully with them, otherwise she may well have had the ability to persuade them all to leave everyone well enough alone. As it stood, the communication barrier was too great. All she got from these sea creatures was anger and defiance, something Daine had herself in spades.

If she could not persuade, she would use force.

It was something she hated. But if she had to impose her will to make these creatures leave, then she would.

She kept the sea creatures well enough away. The problem came with the human-like ones. All she had was a small dagger she had been able to borrow to defend herself from their attacks.

"There's a little earth in the greenhouse," she notes. "Not that much. And people get all picky about their flowers and stuff."

Read: She'd already ticked a couple of people off trying and possibly lying in a flowerbed. So much good earth lying around, and people plant flowers in it. What is that?

But she's fully willing to go to the greenhouse, too. It's a place where she can at least see right, and like Zuko, it feels familiar. There's the loamy scent of earth, and she at least feels in her element. Metal is okay, but it's definitely less malleable, more unyielding, and she's still learning it. Maybe there will be something different this time. Maybe Zuko can glower away the flower people. He's good at that.

"I'll follow you." Ignoring the hand for now, apparently. Totally a pride thing.

. . . He may want to keep an eye on her, though. There's no guarantee she won't run into something.

[ She constructs it in a much sloppier way, often leaving bricks knocked to one side or finding the slightly thicker bricks to make some levels looser than others.

He fixes most of it, but that's part of the fun. ]

Nope! The tower's just the first part! The game is taking it apart again without making it collapse. If one of us pulls out a brick and it makes the tower fall, they've lost.

[ She hesitates once they're done building, bites her lip, and looks across at him. It's hard to tell that she's meeting his gaze directly, given her pupils, but. She's not gonna let that guy feel like he's right about a single solitary thing, no matter how nervous it makes her. So, eye contact. ] I'll let daozhang go first, and we'll take turns. Easy, right?

"Blind? Is that why you be standing around like that? Hrm... That would make goin' for a swim a challenge."

With that he walks up next to her and peers at the water and folds his arms, "Maybe you want to be helping the people inland a bit then?"

That vocal tick kicks in again, "OR DID SOME GIT THINK GETTIN' WAUDDA WUZ ALL YOZE WERE GOOD FOR? RIGHT SHOULD SMASH DAT GIT IF DAT WERE DA CASE!"
