Test Drive Meme 012

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Film Night

The newest carriage on the Voidtrecker Express is the long awaited cinema! It hosts many films and TV series. Perfect if passengers wish to waste an afternoon without worrying about being stolen from their worlds and hurtling through the void between worlds.

Dashing adventures, chair gripping horrors or adorable adventures of the Merry Little Voidtrain. There is something for everyone, though with only one screen arguments may be inevitable.

Fight Club

The gym carriage is definitely created more for ball games than sparring but that hasn't stopped the passengers adapting as best they can. There are homemade training dummies and plenty of people who use the space to work out and get ready for the next mission.

But there is also a cupboard full of every ball for almost every ball game there is, the two activities in one space may make for a little chaos.

Spar with people, play football. Create some mix of basketball and mixed martial arts. All training counts, right?

Jungle Heights

The latest mission has taken them to a vast jungle, where people live high in the trees. There has been an influx of tree dwelling creatures with sharp teeth, sharper claws and a love of destruction. To make things better the forest floor is not safe, damp and marshy many creatures lurk there ready to bite at ankles and it is home to a root, the sap of which burns.

Team One

Treetop fighting is an acquired skill and one the voidtreckers are having to learn quickly. Swing on vine ropes and tangle with monsters. Quick movement and quicker thinking is needed to take down the creatures in terrain they are naturals at traversing.

Team Two

People here live on platforms in the trees, with bridges and walkways connecting them. Fend off the creatures and chase them away from peoples homes. At least there is slightly solider ground beneath their feet, but they must be careful not to fall to the jungle floor beneath.

Team Three

Many of the people here are not fighters and they need help to get somewhere safer. It's a tough journey through the forest, especially when they leave the bridges and platforms of the village behind. Children may need carried and climbing from one tree to another is difficult even with sturdy branches to walk along.

They must be careful to stay in the trees, avoid getting too close to the forest floor but do not get too high, lest they attract the creatures.

kitchen

Ignis is on a quest for coffee and there he sees the newcomer in the kitchen. And as he pours himself a cup of coffee he hears what the lady says. Curious, his blondish head tilts and looks over.

Candy making was something new and with being both a scholar and a chef, the advisor was intrigued. So after completing his coffee he took a sip of the beverage, and his green eyes went to a cabinet.

Moving the mug down, he looked over at the person. He and Evie had worked on soap molds.."I apologize as I didn't mean to eavesdrop..but did I overhear you mention a mold?"

Sakura looks up and blinks, "Hrm? Oh. I infuse candies with magic. Stuff to take a bit of the hurt out of getting hit. Back home I had a bunch of cute pumpkin and spider molds, but here I guess I'll just have to wing it."

She then looks over at the tea pot, "Tea candies are probably better plain though. At least till I can find some butterscotch and pumpkin flavorings.... And some real honey I guess."
faithfulsupport: (About to smile)

"Infuse candies with magic?" Ignis asked. He was definitely intrigued. There weren't any kids on the train that had any problem with healing potions..but healing candies? This would certainly be something to see.

And then she had..spider and pumpkin molds? This could get rather interesting.

"We do have honey aboard..but if you're looking for something more particular..we do have a train shop to purchase things from."

"Yeah, but the candies are for fun. I need to get materials and hire a smith to make a rod I won't.... Explode... When in the field. So I need to save."

With that she lets out a deep sigh, "I really don't want to be reduced to archery again."

"But as for the candies, when I started out, I had some image issues, so.... It was easier to give people candy than convince them that what I was casting wasn't death and destruction all the time."
faithfulsupport: (Are you quite sure?)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-25 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"A rod?" Now he's confused. A rod that won't explode? Well she could get that from the shop too, no smith required. But it would be good if they could get someone here to refine weapons such as Master Cid was capable of.

Ignis shook his head. "I'm sure we could find something that works for you."

But he took a sip of more coffee and pondered her next set of words. Death and destruction..? "I'm sorry..you said casting destruction spells?" Was she the same as Noct?

"Back home, I'm a black mage of some repute. And a while ago, oh.... A couple hundred years ago, I was with a group of Dark Knights of the Aldore army. The Veritas."

She takes the tea off the heat and pours herself a cup, then the rest in the pot she is working with, "I had a rod that a famous dwarven smith made... And when I had to replace it, I had to find his line again to make a new one."

Staring at the sugar and tea mixing she shakes her head, "I got really bad with time for a while."

The blondish head shakes as he has no idea who any of these people are. But if she says black mage, well he's obviously heard of the Black Mage trophy. And dark knight? Well Gladio was the only knight he knew of on the train. His brain had no idea what to make of a 'couple hundred years ago'. People didn't live that long where he was from.

There was more odd talk of a dwarf to remake a rod and something about finding his line to have it redone. So he had more coffee, trying to gather his swirling thoughts. After a moment it lowered again to inquire.

"Time..simply passed by quickly?"

"Honestly, the human mind isn't designed to understand life in times over 100 or so years. By the time you hit 200 or so, things start to blend together."

With that she shrugs a bit and sips her tea, "Pretty sure if you're not a little bit crazy by 400 then you were always that way."

"Just what IS that you are drinking? It kind of looks like tea, but smells off."
faithfulsupport: (Listening avidly)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-25 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He's really not sure what to say about the human mind but he's boggled and at the same time of course he's busy analyzing how such a thing could even be possible. And while Ignis is at it, he can't even figure what life on Eos would be like in all of that time. IT certainly gave him plenty of food for thought.

There was a tiny smile as he listened to the mage about being crazy and could only imagine. Was it by magic that she managed to live that long? Would anyone truly wish such a thing? And then those thoughts were interrupted by the question.

The advisor then removed himself from his position and slowly moved and set the beverage down. "It's called coffee. Do they not have that where you're from?"

Sakura would gladly go into all the details about it if asked, including the theory of the immortality treatments vs. the reality of it. She'd also probably say that any sane government should have told a 12 year old no, even if that 12 year old was a prodigy and on par with the top mages of the magical nation they were warring against.

"I've never seen it. It is possible it showed up somewhere on Aldore in the last 700 years, but I was stuck on Lapis. Is it natural, scientific, or magical in creation? It doesn't smell alchemical."
faithfulsupport: (Quiet)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-26 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Now he's listening to Sakura tell him about other places he's never heard of. And there's a slight chuckle at the question. It's made from a bean which is a vegetable. I suppose you could say the process is rather magical as well as scientific."

Hell it was so magical that it kept him happy along with all of the other fighters and non fighters alike on the train. Coffee here was a bit different of course than the beloved cans of Ebony he drank back home. But this was a good enough substitute in and of itself.
grannyofthebolt: (Default)

[personal profile] grannyofthebolt 2020-05-26 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"So they infuse the vegetable with mana. I see. It must cost a fortune to produce."

She peers into the percolator and pinches some of the coffee grinds, sniffing them a bit, "Is this part garbage, or supposed to be eaten with it?"
faithfulsupport: (What have you there? -r)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-27 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
There was a small laugh. "I meant magic as in metaphorically, not quite literally." Well that would teach him to not speak that way if the lady was going to take his word on everything. Come to think of it the same lesson applied to his daughter who would believe a blue sky was green if he told her it was so.

Seeing Sakura poke and peek into the coffee grounds had him smile and pick his cup back up. Moving over to the refrigerator, he shook his head.

"They can be reused for other things I'm told such as fertilizer and cleaning pots and pans." That was just a start, but he grabbed a premade batch of the honeycakes he'd made for Buttercup and moved over to the oven to preheat it.

"But if you're hungry, give me about ten to fifteen minutes and I can fix that."
grannyofthebolt: (Oooh Candy)

[personal profile] grannyofthebolt 2020-05-27 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah food, and not food that was pure sugar, as that was really the only thing she had talent making. She nodded, then put the grounds back, "I'd love something to eat. Candy is the only thing I bothered to really learn well enough."

She shrugs, "So this ship thing, it does its own farming as well? Haven't seen that area, but I haven't gone exploring much, just was trying to figure out a routine."
faithfulsupport: (Fond gaze -r)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-28 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"If you make candy, you would have quite the number of train children chasing you down. And you would most certainly be in here quite often." Of that Ignis was sure, and she'd even have a lot of adults in here too, with the king of Lucis among their number.

But he busily worked on the preparation of the honey cakes and once they were in the oven, he started in on the cream cheese frosting with a smile.

"You're on a train actually, but yes. We do so happen to have some pretty talented hands at making sure new growth flourishes in a rather odd place." How they were able to do so without sunlight, Ignis had no idea. He was just the cook..and any other hat required by Tony or Noct.

At the word train, Sakura's face makes a lot of changes. She remembers a train that carried the souls of the dead to the next world in one of her vision's universes, as well as trains made to transport slaves and resources. All in all she doesn't have a lot of good thoughts on the whole train thing, but... This seems harmless. Or at least like someone else will have to suplex it if it gets out of hand.

"Well I do hard candies. There was a bean on Paladia called chocolate that was used to make romance candies that I've only a little experience with. Also I've done a bit of work with putting butter and sugar together to make a sweat paste. But I haven't figured out how to enchant either of those."

"Still, I may like to see the place they grow our foods, maybe it at least has a natural looking sky."
faithfulsupport: (How is it..)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-29 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"They've chocolate in the train shop." And wait, did she say 'Romance candies?. And now he's more curious both in a scholarly way as well as in a chef with recipehs sort of way. Butter and sugar sweet paste..well that could prove to be interesting.

Colour him intrigued.

"If you made those, I do believe we have someone on board who would pass them out for you." Namely sailor Venus.

He turned and pulled the honey cakes out to put the now thoroughly mixed cream cheese frosting on and then put them right back in. "If you would like a tour after these cakes are out we can go if you would like."
grannyofthebolt: (SD)

[personal profile] grannyofthebolt 2020-05-29 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Um, I guess. I never had problems passing out candies, I just don't really know how to enchant them to do anything other than look all lovey dovey and promote tooth decay. But a lot of people use them in courtship rituals on Aldore."

She shrugs at that and sips her tea, "I wouldn't say no to a tour, at least after I get these candies cooling and drying out. They should be safe here, right? I'm not 100% sure what would happen if someone gorged themselves on inactive magic candy."
faithfulsupport: (What have you there? -r)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-30 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a smile regarding the tooth decay. He'd given that lecture to Noct more than a few times and even Prompto had gotten it a time or two. And then Sakura went and threw that sort of thing into it.

Curiouser and curiouser.

"I beg your pardon, did you say courtship rituals? Would you mind explaining it to me?" Was this like the flowers and candy thing Tony had mentioned to him? If so it would be delightful if these things were similar in different worlds.

The last part had him worried. "I'm afraid if you do leave them hanging about, one of the children will come get them." That left the part about where to put them or whether to stay put until they were done.

Sakura sighs, "I only know the basics as I am basically uncourtable. But giving chocolates and flowers is one of them. But honestly, when you've been stuck at 12 years old for so long you stopped counting, you stop worrying about that."

"As for the candies, is there a deep freeze? I can mark them a magic experiment and they look a lot like crystal while preparing and really, who'd want to eat that?"
faithfulsupport: (I've got something to add)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-05-31 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ignis didn't think anyone was uncourtable. After all, if he had found someone, the chances of her finding someone were pretty damn high. But he said nothing and merely smiled as she mentioned the courtship ritual Tony had described to him once.

The last part was a mental stop though he knew better than to talk about a lady's age. IF she was stuck at twelve for..how long had she said? Yes, he certainly was just going to let it go and focus on the question he could solve. So he took a sip of coffee and then set the mug down, walking over to where he was talking about next.

"Yes, we have a deep freezer. We could relocate them to the back." And they would be safe there for a bit of time at least.
grannyofthebolt: (dot eye SD)

[personal profile] grannyofthebolt 2020-06-01 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"That works then. Like I said, I can make them look like crystal, and then who'd want to eat someone's science experiment."

She then stops, thinks of everyone she knows back home, and shakes her head. "You know... Maybe I don't want the answer to that."
faithfulsupport: (As you wish)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-06-02 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
He really was about to answer her when she went on and decided against it. His smile would probably give away that she was right, there were those types of people on board as a matter of fact. But as to who those people were..well that was up to her to find out.

"I placed them in the very back, which should ensure their safety." This was Ignis attempting to be comforting, usually people knew if stuff was way in the back , it was for a damned good reason.
