Test Drive Meme 012

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Film Night

The newest carriage on the Voidtrecker Express is the long awaited cinema! It hosts many films and TV series. Perfect if passengers wish to waste an afternoon without worrying about being stolen from their worlds and hurtling through the void between worlds.

Dashing adventures, chair gripping horrors or adorable adventures of the Merry Little Voidtrain. There is something for everyone, though with only one screen arguments may be inevitable.

Fight Club

The gym carriage is definitely created more for ball games than sparring but that hasn't stopped the passengers adapting as best they can. There are homemade training dummies and plenty of people who use the space to work out and get ready for the next mission.

But there is also a cupboard full of every ball for almost every ball game there is, the two activities in one space may make for a little chaos.

Spar with people, play football. Create some mix of basketball and mixed martial arts. All training counts, right?

Jungle Heights

The latest mission has taken them to a vast jungle, where people live high in the trees. There has been an influx of tree dwelling creatures with sharp teeth, sharper claws and a love of destruction. To make things better the forest floor is not safe, damp and marshy many creatures lurk there ready to bite at ankles and it is home to a root, the sap of which burns.

Team One

Treetop fighting is an acquired skill and one the voidtreckers are having to learn quickly. Swing on vine ropes and tangle with monsters. Quick movement and quicker thinking is needed to take down the creatures in terrain they are naturals at traversing.

Team Two

People here live on platforms in the trees, with bridges and walkways connecting them. Fend off the creatures and chase them away from peoples homes. At least there is slightly solider ground beneath their feet, but they must be careful not to fall to the jungle floor beneath.

Team Three

Many of the people here are not fighters and they need help to get somewhere safer. It's a tough journey through the forest, especially when they leave the bridges and platforms of the village behind. Children may need carried and climbing from one tree to another is difficult even with sturdy branches to walk along.

They must be careful to stay in the trees, avoid getting too close to the forest floor but do not get too high, lest they attract the creatures.

Spark Deegan/Garfield Agreste/ Privateer Pirate | Dominic Deegan and CRAU from Wake

(This is a character with multiple secret identities, Giving different prompts to different faces. Please excuse the lack of icons, waiting to reupp his paid till if/when he gets in.)

A. Gar - Film night!

Going through the films is a somewhat awkward looking teen boy with blond hair and green eyes. Gar was, as of yet, unaware that anyone else from Nautilus was here... and didn't expect anyone here to know Greg. So looking like a slightly younger Greg with Adrien's coloring? Especially given how few people in the last world had met Gar as Gar outside of a storm...? Yeah this could be a problem.

But for everyone else, have a somewhat handsome teenaged boy who was at that all limbs awkward stage of growing, going through the movie choices. "No anime?" he muttered to himself. "Adrien would lose it." No he wouldn't but he missed Adrien and probably would lose it on his brother's behalf, just out of joy of having him there....

B. Spark - Wildcard

There was an orange cat lurking about whatever heights he could find. Luggage racks, shelving units, the one book case... He was watching for someone he could pounce on... to pester them to make him something to eat. Specifically, something with fish.....

Privateer Pirate - Team One

Oh dear gods no. While the seeming Flesh Golem dressed as a pirate was being quite... effective at chasing off his foes. He seemed to be almost equally effective at chasing off allies. Mostly because his puns were so bad many people would rather take their chances anywhere else.

"Leaf these people alone!" he yelled as a huge leaf came from the trees and slammed into a monster, tangling it up. "You really need to get to the root of your problems...." and the creature was felled, dropping towards the roots. "Hope those aren't SQUARE ROOTS" he called down. "OR you could be Divided!" and the monster hit the now angular roots and broke in half.

She sheathed his sword, which he had never actually used. "And Chat Noir said I couldn't pull off math puns in combat." He had said no such thing....

Scintilla Caminus | FFXIV [WoL OC]

[personal profile] lightsmith 2020-05-15 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[a; fight club]

[It would probably not have been the most helpful thing to strike the nearest training dummy as she might have at home--they didn't seem quite as sturdy, and someone else likely needed the practice more than Scintilla did.]

[But by the Twelve, she was bored. Which was almost never a good thing, and today she stood on tiptoes rummaging through a cabinet, ears pricked upward and tail swishing behind her like...well, like a curious cat. Either stop her or encourage her, but someone's looking for something to do.]

[b; team two]

[This? This was a lot more her speed, literally speaking. Running full tilt along treetop walkways, meeting sharp-toothed creatures head on with a pair of knives topped with moogle-shaped hilts, and generally going about with all sorts of aggressive solutions? Much easier than being stuck on a train.]

[Crossing distances without walkways between them was a bit trickier, especially when it came to reaching said creatures before they reached the nearest civilians. Well, little to be done for it; the daggers were sheathed, a sign made with Scintilla's hands, and she vanished in a burst of smoke only to reappear on a platform a fair distance away to re-engage with the creatures.]

[Just another average Thursday, really.]

Nicolai Kuznetsov | Original

A. Film Night

He was, believe it or not, thoroughly engrossed in Merry Little Voidtrain, and had already been watching it for two solid hours. While it wasn't something he'd imagined he'd actually get into, it resonated strongly with him and he appreciated the message the storylines told. He even had a little bowl of popcorn with him, which was nearly empty by now.

When someone else came in, he looked up for a moment, then back to the screen. "This is almost over, then you can watch whatever you want," he promised. He'd come back later to continue watching, if he could find a time when no one else was watching something.

B. Jungle Heights - Team One

While he would call himself a pretty good fighter, he usually did all of his fighting on the ground. Both feet, firmly planted. Swinging through the trees? That was not his thing. He was terrified of heights, but he was doing his best to push through it.

Which involved having a death grip on a vine rope while he sailed through the air, bringing up his feet to land a double kick on a monster and sending it careening from its tree branch perch. Nico landed on the branch the monster had been previously occupying, which was plenty wide enough, but plastered himself against the tree trunk all the same, squeezing his eyes shut and taking a deep breath.

"I'm going to die, I'm going to die," he muttered under his breath, cracking open an eye and doing his best not to look down.

C. Jungle Heights - Team Two

This was much better, but still not ideal. He prefered having actual walkways under his feet, but there was a part of his brain that said they were going to break at any moment, sending him plummeting to his death. He knew he had work to do, and he really was planning on getting back to it, but he was taking a breather, sitting down with his back against the wall of a house, knees pulled up to his chest.

He felt a little like he was going to be sick. Why did these people have to live so high up? When he was a kid, he'd thought tree houses were super cool, he'd even built one himself, but it hadn't been anywhere near this high up, and therefore not nearly as terrifying.

He just...had to psych himself up for getting back up and continuing fighting, when he felt like his legs weren't going to give out and result in him tumbling over a railing. After this, for certain, he never wanted to climb a tree again in his life.

"Come on, you can do this," he told himself, barely above a whisper. "You just have to-" he paused, shivered, continued, "-get up, and not look down."

"Siege" | Arknights

[personal profile] lionofglasgow 2020-05-15 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
-Film Night-

The movie on the screen was not Disney's The Lion King, but it was something very similar. A young animated lioness was cast from her home for a crime he didn't commit and must team up with a punchdrunk gorilla boxer and a snarky parrot to reclaim her home from a sinister usurper.

Verna started out bored but with nothing better to do, but as the plot moved along she started getting subtly more and more invested until, by the climax, her eyes were transfixed on the screen. So when someone started to stand up from the row of seats in front of her she actually growled at them. And it wasn't the kind of growl a person makes. It sounded more like some great hunting beast that made primitive humans hide in their caves. It was a sound that told the primitive ape that was underneath the civilized veneer of all humans that the smart move was to sit the fuck back down.

-Jungle Heights team two-

Siege lay in wait up in the branches, with an improvised warhammer in her hand. She felt better with her feet on the ground, honestly, but she could adapt. She lay in wait and watched, as the villagers ran by in panic in the layer of trees beneath her where the village proper was constructed. The last of them, a haggard rear guard, was brandishing spears at the oncoming beasts, but they didn't look like they had the morale to stand up to a determined charge. Fortunately, they didn't have to.

Once the beast was right beneath her, Siege screamed and leaped, bringing the hammer down RIGHT as it looked up to see what the racket was so that it smashed right into the beast's mouth and sent a spray of blood and shattered teeth out to either side. Stunned and in pain, the beast actually fell off of the wooden platform and down to the forest floor far below.

The warriors behind her saw something else than a girl with a lion's tail fighting the monsters, though. They saw an almost shining figure, laying waste to their enemies. It was the most natural thing in the world to follow her. And she knew they would follow her. Siege was good at being followed.

She brandished the bloody hammer in the air and shouted "After them! They will rue the day they dared to stand against us!" And the counter-charge began.

-Bonus Prompt-

Verna has been COOKING! Probably because it's her team's job and she is very responsible. Unfortunately some fool put her in charge of dessert. She made some kind of fruit cobbler that looks perfectly edible, at least until you bite into it. It has absolutely no sugar in it and is, in fact, incredibly sour.

She's having her serving of it with every sign of enjoyment, though.

[OOC: "Siege" is Verna's codename that she uses during operations. It's also the name the game uses 90% of the time, so it's what I went with for the top level name]

Kroos | Arknights

[personal profile] here_i_am 2020-05-15 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
-Film Night-

Whatever the film is, Kroos doesn't know. That's because about fifteen minutes in she fell asleep. There's been a gentle, ignoreable snoring coming from her seat ever since then. You're now coming up on the climax and the sound of it woke her up.

Right as the most important scene of the movie started to play out, Kroos yawned, then leaned over to you and pointed at the main villain and whispered "Who's that guy again?" in a sleepy voice.

-Jungle heights, Team one-

Whether you're having trouble adapting to fighting in the treetops or not, fighting the monsters on any kind of terrain can't be easy. That was why Kroos had just found a good hiding place and stuck to it.

She wasn't chickening out, though. She was sniping.

Every time one of the beasts got too close to someone, a crossbow bolt abruptly sprouted from it's flesh, giving its opponent a chance to escape even if it didn't kill the beast right out. She was a pretty good shot, too. MOST of her bolts were at least as flesh wound, even if they weren't all dead on head shots.

She noticed one of her allies had seen her, so she waved.

-Bonus prompt-

Chores are an important part of life on the train while between worlds. In this case, Kroos' team was in charge of cooking. And while Kroos helped out with dinner without much grumbling, breakfast was a bit spottier. Just as everyone else was finishing up with the cooking, Kroos FINALLY wandered in, rubbing her eyes. "Okay okay, here I am. Did I miss everything already?"

"I really could not give less of a shit what's playing."

Ronan slumps into a seat near but not too near to Nicolai. He rubs a hands against his nose, which appears to be bloody, and makes a face. Normally he'd wait at least until he was somewhere more private for this, but he really doesn't have the time to walk all the way back to the sleeper cars while black ooze is dripping out of his nose. Between the ooze and dreaming somewhere more public, he feels like dreaming in public is easier to hide.

"Sorry, I need to fall asleep for like two minutes and then I'll be out of your hair."

Catarina Claes | My Next Like As A Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom

[personal profile] deathflags 2020-05-15 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ A: Film Night ]

[ MOVIES! Catarina had missed them so much over the past 15 or so years of her life. Or, well, seven since she woke up, anyway. So it's only natural that she finds herself in the Cinema carriage, perusing the movies and navigating the menus with far more ease than somebody claiming to be from a fantasy world should.

She settles in to watch an anime movie about a walking castle and the mage who operates it - the title seemed a little off, but it'd been almost a decade since she last watched it. But it was surely the same thing.

It was about halfway through the movie that she determined Something was Off. Just as the mage, who was in this film a giant anthropomorphized purple cat, revealed that he was actually a superhero on a covert mission, Catarina turns to the nearest person with a very confused yet earnest whisper. ]
Did this film always go like this? [ She didn't even notice the mage was a purple cat. ]

[ B: Team Three ]

[ Despite her well-trained handiness with a sword, Catarina didn't think she was ready to tangle with any monsters. She had trained to fend off irate suitors, not beasts. And she was a natural at navigating treetops. And trees in general.

This is why she was called a "monkey" in her past life. ]

All right! Let's keep this up, everyone! Just a little bit further, probably!

[ Her voice has WAY too much pep and energy for this kind of mission. Still, she's moving around well, helping villagers where she can. Or her fellow teammates. Speaking of, she notices one now. ] Hey, are you holding up all right? [ She flashes a wide, reassuring grin. ]

[ C: Bonus Prompt ]

[ Catarina found the garden car. CATARINA FOUND THE GARDEN CAR. Catarina found the Garden Car.

Which is to say, she has spent the last who knows how long going over every inch of it, making sure all the plants are well tended, working with the plants and dirt the best she can. She's somehow found an entire gardener's outfit (?) and hoe (???) and FULLY LOOKS the part of an avid gardener. ]

We should grow watermelon. It's the season for them... I think... [ Turning to the nearest person. ] Hey. Is "Fiddlesticks" a summer month?
aluciner: (you soon find you have few choices)

c

[personal profile] aluciner 2020-05-15 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, why not?

[Ronan is mostly in the garden car by accident, but he's a person for whom reality is distinctly malleable. If this person thinks Fiddlesticks should be a summer month, then who is he to say it's not? He doesn't even comment on the fact that plants have to grow, so by that logic you would have to plant a summer vegetable several months before it was in season. Magic makes all things possible!]

Tsukishiro Yukito/Yue | CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc

[personal profile] yukibunny 2020-05-15 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Film Night:

[Yukito approached the cinema carriage with a smile. He had been reliably informed that a romantic comedy would be playing in a few minutes and he enjoyed those movies a great deal. The night before it had been a horror and that was very much not his type.

He'd gathered himself several snacks, popcorn, candy, a large glass of juice that he was trying to balance as he walked to the carriage and struggled to get the door open with his hands full.]

Fight Club:

[He was not a fighter in the slightest. Tall and slim, willowy would be a more appropriate descriptor for Yukito, innocent to the ways of battle. The worst fight he had ever been in was the valiant battle he had endured when attempting to open a bag of chips that he swore had been sealed with super glue!

So rather than involve himself, Yukito stood near the door with an almost anxious expression as he watched the others train. It looked so dangerous. What if someone was hurt?]

Jungle Heights (Team Two):

[Yukito had a bit stick. A big stick he was swinging to try and scare off one of the strange creatures attempting to gain entrance into the homes of the people they were protecting.]

Take that! And that!

[His swings were too wide. Long arcs that would leave him open to attack.]

Jungle Heights (Team Three):

[Several of the village children had gathered around Yukito, forming a sort of train behind him as he marched along with the others to get the people to safety.

One of the younger ones he had resorted to picking up to carry. She had fallen asleep with her head pillowed upon his shoulder.

There was a soft smile upon Yukito's lips. They were a lovely people. They didn't deserve to suffer so.]

Bonus Prompt 1:

[The greenhouse was a beautiful place. It was quiet and serene and perfect for growing things. He had noticed several people frequented the greenhouse to tend to the plants there, and the ones all through the train. They hadn't seemed to mind him joining in on their efforts.

So there he was, humming a song to himself as he moved from one end of the plots to the other, watering the plants that seemed to need it.]

Bonus Prompt 2:

[Yukito was hungry. Which wasn't unusual. He knew he could get snacks from the on site store, but the kitchen had free food and lots of it.

He was currently in the middle of making a stack of sandwiches for himself using the sausages and bacon he had found in the fridge. A few greens were thrown in there too. A slice of cheese...

His stomach rumbled.]

Almost done. [He laughed at himself.]

righthandedrevenge: You killed my father. Prepare to die. (Hello)

Inigio Montoya | The Princess Bride

[personal profile] righthandedrevenge 2020-05-15 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
-Fight Club (?)-

Inigo had come to the gym to see if there were any other swordsmen he could practice with, and had somehow gotten roped into a game of basketball. He'd never heard of the game, but the rules seemed straightforwards enough.

It was going fine. He wasn't very good at the game, but his footwork was excellent. Then a second ball was thrown in. A football. Because they had all these stupid balls and the regular game wasn't interesting enough for someone. Inigo caught it awkwardly, looking around with confusion. He...tried to dribble it as he had the basketball, and the oblong ball went bouncing off in some random direction.

He was pretty sure this wasn't how the game was meant to be played, but shrugged and ran with it. "Well, that makes the game a bit more interesting..."

-Jungle Heights team two-

Inigo held a rickety bridge. It would be an understatement to say that he "fought" the beasts as they attacked. As his sword flickered back and forth, glinting in the dappled sunlight that filtered through the treetops, he almost looked more like he was dancing, and the beasts were his unwilling dance partners.

As his most recent dance partner slumped to the side and fell to the forest floor below, Inigo sized up his next opponent. He was starting to get tired, and this one was REALLY big. He shuffled a step or two back and switched the sword from his left hand to his right.

"Okay then...I just hope the bridge can hold us both."

-Film Night-

The "cinema" was showing some kind of kiddie cartoon. Something about a very brave rabbit. It was like a storybook come to life, and Inigo really wasn't sure what he thought about it. Not that he cared.

After twenty years of searching for revenge, Inigo had finally gotten it. Now he was in a bizarre new world full of strange creatures and technology and he was feeling both physically and metaphorically lost at sea.

But alcohol. You could count on alcohol to always be alcohol. He was in the back row of the cinema car with a bottle of wine, and more than somewhat oblivious to the world while muttering something about not being able to "go back to the beginning" this time.

Bonus Prompt

[personal profile] yukibunny 2020-05-15 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yukito was starving. It had been at least a good few hours since the last time he'd eaten anything and the smells coming from the kitchen were so enticing...

He followed his nose all the way there to find a young woman enjoying some form of dessert... As he moved closer he could identify it as some kind of cobbler. He smiled, a gentle and curious smile.

"That smells delicious." He started, just as his stomach chose that moment to rumble. A light blush coloured his cheeks. "Could I trouble you for a slice?"

[Catarina was not alone in being puzzled. Yukito was sat a seat below her and to the left, he had his snacks and settled on the seat beside him, but even those had been left in favour of watching the movie with a shocked sort of awe.

When the voice whispered to him from above, he twisted in his seat to look back. The lights were dim but he could still make out her confusion.]

Nero tol Scaeva | Final Fantasy XIV

[personal profile] gunhammered 2020-05-15 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
01. Fight Club
There was nothing remarkable about the man eying ruefully the training weapons arrayed about, aside from a rounded nodule between his silver eyes. Certainly not the strangest of the train's newest 'Treckers'.

Admittedly, he'd heard from enough people that there would be fighting in their futures, though he took it with a grain if salt precisely how 'helpful' their combat initiatives were to be. He wasn't particularly un-helpful, of course, and he blamed one Cid Garlond for that annoying new trait. Alas, Cid was nowhere to be found aboard the train, so he'd have to make due amusing himself as best he could.

And, if these rudamentary training weapons were any indication, reverting back to the stone ages of technological achievement.

"Really, now, is this train car a training facility or a museum?"

02. Jungle Heights - Team Two
A crossbow isn't his ideal weapon. It's bulky, it requires reloading after every shot, it's accuracy leaves much to be desired. Just leveling the thing at a swinging primate-like creature down the walkway, Nero can think of at least eight adjustments to the device that would make it more useful.

The ability to load multiple rounds, foremost in his mind. Luckily, Garleans were aided by their third eye to have near perfect aim and Nero's focus both at the Academy honed that skill even further. It wasn't a gunblade, but the feathered bolt found its mark anyway and an eager grin split his face as the shaft thudded home in the beast's broad chest, sending it howling to the forest floor below.

He lowered the weapon to reload, (so utterly annoying), and he could be heard muttering to himself as he did so. "Steel plating for the butt, thin but enough to offer a degree of protection while reloading." He raised the bolt even with his eyes, analyzing the tip, before placing it atop the bow, ready to fire. "Saltpeter and bomb ash. Quite a concussive shot."

[Nero must admit, he's here out of curiosity. The entire train is a mystery to be solved, and more than anything, he'd like very much to find a way into the Engine, but that will require every resource at his disposal, and surely there was something in their makeshift training care he could convert to be of some use.

He wasn't expecting finding a Miqo'te, or at least her swishing tale. He just watches for a moment, arms crossed, amused.

No, and I'm bored out of my damned mind.

[There was the token attempt to hide her Limsan accent and rougher speaking, but annoyance made it harder. She shut the cabinet and dropped back to her feet properly to face Nero, tossing a baseball to herself to keep her hands busy.]

Or those they'd tried their hardest to bury. He grinned, motioning around vaguely at their surroundings.

That is the thing about trains, isn't it? There is no roundabout way to arrive anywhere. It really is just one thing connected to another, but if you must know, I was passing through and decided to investigate the sounds.

[I mean, she's not wrong.]

And of course, I do. I always make fair points. [His smile turned arrogant, which was a much more customary expression.] I'll even spare you another: this train has an engine room, at the front, where they usually have them, and there are only so many ways to couple a train car. [He left the rest of his little point ambiguous, except to add:] I'm rather interested in cataloging all the various ways in which this train is tethered together.

Why ever would I do that? [Now, if it is enough to incite some sort of self-preservation protocol, or stop the train, that could open up purchase to the engine car, and that is his final destination.

A train. With the power to travel the Void.

It will be his.

For the time being I do live here, you know. While I am ambitious, one false step into the Void was enough for me, thank you.

"Oh. Okay." Good, good, so it wasn't somebody arriving to kick him out of the movie car so other people could watch things. That was a big relief. Maybe he could squeeze in another episode.

Covered in blood, guts, and various other things of a gross medical nature, Creed steps up to the sword, letting the tip sink into his shoulder. Then, he grasps it and pulls it out, holding onto it.

"Same team, asshole." He growls out.

Something plops off his neck, sliding to the forest floor below. "Cleared out this way, let's get a move on." He waves the other man toward the opposite side of the bridge, and steps forward again.
