Test Drive Meme 012

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Film Night

The newest carriage on the Voidtrecker Express is the long awaited cinema! It hosts many films and TV series. Perfect if passengers wish to waste an afternoon without worrying about being stolen from their worlds and hurtling through the void between worlds.

Dashing adventures, chair gripping horrors or adorable adventures of the Merry Little Voidtrain. There is something for everyone, though with only one screen arguments may be inevitable.

Fight Club

The gym carriage is definitely created more for ball games than sparring but that hasn't stopped the passengers adapting as best they can. There are homemade training dummies and plenty of people who use the space to work out and get ready for the next mission.

But there is also a cupboard full of every ball for almost every ball game there is, the two activities in one space may make for a little chaos.

Spar with people, play football. Create some mix of basketball and mixed martial arts. All training counts, right?

Jungle Heights

The latest mission has taken them to a vast jungle, where people live high in the trees. There has been an influx of tree dwelling creatures with sharp teeth, sharper claws and a love of destruction. To make things better the forest floor is not safe, damp and marshy many creatures lurk there ready to bite at ankles and it is home to a root, the sap of which burns.

Team One

Treetop fighting is an acquired skill and one the voidtreckers are having to learn quickly. Swing on vine ropes and tangle with monsters. Quick movement and quicker thinking is needed to take down the creatures in terrain they are naturals at traversing.

Team Two

People here live on platforms in the trees, with bridges and walkways connecting them. Fend off the creatures and chase them away from peoples homes. At least there is slightly solider ground beneath their feet, but they must be careful not to fall to the jungle floor beneath.

Team Three

Many of the people here are not fighters and they need help to get somewhere safer. It's a tough journey through the forest, especially when they leave the bridges and platforms of the village behind. Children may need carried and climbing from one tree to another is difficult even with sturdy branches to walk along.

They must be careful to stay in the trees, avoid getting too close to the forest floor but do not get too high, lest they attract the creatures.

[Oh that's not what - well. Adam would probably be proud of him for learning a practical skill without resorting to using dreamstuff.]

I'm really more of a - I had cows, not vegetables. [This is true, insofar as he does indeed have cows. He didn't raise them, however, and they're all currently very silently asleep for eternity.] If you don't mind teaching me, though, I'm happy to learn.

Geez, girl, you are psychic.

[Tangle shakes her head, but nonetheless takes the plate with her tail. She licks her lips, and then picks it up with her hand and then taking a bite.]

...Delicious! Oh man, that's just about perfect! You should do this for a living!

"I make things, mostly." Some of the other people he's met can do much the same, although they have limitations he doesn't. The train Nico has now is, of course, a mildly impossible object. The sort of thing that doesn't exist outside of dreams. "Can't make large objects here, though. Too far from ley lines for that."

Ley lines are, at least in Ronan's experience, something that anyone knows about. Gansey - before Gansey also became a forest and not a person - was as normal as a person could be while still being heavily obsessed with dead Welsh kings and he knew more about ley lines than the people Ronan knew who actually used them. Same with Gansey's weird professor friend.

Forests made of power, of energy, though? That's information to keep to yourself. Only the Greywaren would have need of such a place anyway - or another dreamer, and Ronan was pretty sure there wasn't another one of those on the train.

"Trinkets like that are easier for me here."

As was often the case when she found this train getting too small for her, Cassie had been in the gym. She'd almost forgotten that her mother was out and about again until she entered the cinema itself.

She steps into her row and rests a hand on the seat next to Sonya.

"This seat taken, General?"

Lea had had the misfortune of still having chores to do and thus had missed the first part of the movie. It definitely looked interesting; some kind of action-adventure movie with a mildly old-timey feel to the setting. But beyond that, he had no clue what was happening.

Thus he did the only thing he could do. He slid into the seat next to the nearest person and said quietly, "Hey, sorry if I'm bugging you, but I missed the first part of the movie. Think you could give me a rundown on what's happening?"

[personal profile] coccinelled 2020-05-18 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure if I remember a Privateer Pirate But there's been a lot of heroes and people akumatized I guess, I could have lost track?

[Marinette gives a shrug again. Of course she's less sure on actually revealing herself. Unsure if Chat Noir had done so. Both curious and knowing she shouldn't ask. She shouldn't know. Can't know. And well, if Spark calls her out on being Ladybug, then she knows she can trust him at least. She's pretty sure she doesn't remember a Pirate like that though.....]

Mn, I don't mind.

[ She startled as his stomach growled loud enough for her to hear. It distracted her from the emotional whiplash of dealing with his... two halves? That was how he described it, right?

Her own stomach grumbled. It... really had been a while since they'd eaten, hadn't it? She wasn't used to that anymore, with all of the food just lying around on the train.

Given she really, really wanted to go somewhere private and just swear at nothing for a bit, she arranged a relieved-but-embarrassed smile onto her face. It was even mostly genuine! ]

I'll go and get us something to eat, okay? Wait here!

"Thank you, mister...?"

Her teeth scrape as she grinds them together, but A-Qing obligingly takes her time 'finding' the seat in question.

And 'accidentally' trying to nail his foot with her cane as she leans to pat around for the sides of the chair. He's too fast for it to work, unless something in this place has changed him, but as far as she's concerned, even getting him to move would be a petty enough victory.

This is normally where she'd snap back about, gosh, watching? How could you say that to a poor little blind girl. For the moral victory, you know. But Kheli is finally revealing to the other characters that the Void Train gave up its chance to win the Train Of The Year award so it could come back and save them, and she has to swallow a lump in her throat.

Who made the Train be so nice?

[ A-Qing, on the other hand, absolutely knew what she was getting into when she walked into the cinema and saw the girl selecting this movie. It'd been in one of the marathon evenings the week before, and she'd only caught the end, to her eternal regret.

So at Tsubomi's increasing discomfort (and a little at her own, because... why'd it have to eat that person...), she shrugged, and reached for more sugary popcorn. ]

At least the songs are good.

When a person can only put a few decades at most into something they've tried to design it's really no wonder it all falls short of expectations.

"A small number might be deserving," the other says after a pause, sounding thoughtful, gaze turned back to the screen and its insipid story. "Which undercuts my declaring them all rabble, but one might find a handful who are ... not mortal at all and show interesting promise; I haven't yet decided if they still qualify as part of the unwashed masses or are capable of being taught." Which had come to a serious surprise to Fandaniel, but not an unwelcome one. "The rest may be left to wallow in ignorance. Spending time making something worthwhile will take longer than they'll even exist, and thus the effort would be wasted."

There was potential, and that's enough for him. "There's a prequel to this. It's precisely as terrible as you think."

Blaine had been avoiding Nico since arriving, but he knew exactly how terrified even a few inches of height could make his old friend, so he reluctantly floated over. "You know I wouldn't let you fall to your death, right?" he kept his back to Nico, on the lookout for more monsters. "Stop hugging the stupid tree or one of these flying goblins is going to get you from behind."

That sounded a whole lot less like an innuendo before it came out of his mouth.

I'm just kind of used to my friends that won't let me tell them no, either, I think. Moca would have tried again while my back was turned, though.

[There's a moment of simple joy as she watches Tangle enjoy the treat; she wanted to write down somewhere that the spice that looked and tasted like cinnamon seemed to do the job, but that could wait a bit, since she'd likely remind herself when she ate one of these for herself. She giggles at the compliment.]

I kind of do, honestly? I help at my parents' cafe, and this is part of what I do for them. I teach a little bit of it, too, but not as much.

[Tsugu grins at him; she's not sure where she first heard about it, but it got her here eventually.]

The tone is fantastic! If it weren't for the subject material being a little strange, I think my friends at home would love this. Saaya would enjoy showing this to her siblings... and somehow I think Sayo and Hina would get into fights over the characters.

The music is good too - it's going to be in my head for a while - but it kind of makes me miss my friends, and my keyboard. [If Tsugu ever makes it home, at least one of their bands is covering this. Maybe all of them. She could get Kasumi on board, she's sure.]

[The names, admittedly, mean nothing to Webmind - that they are close friends does come through in Tsugu's manner, however, and he gives her a bright emoticon-smile as the episode rolls on.]

You are a musician, then? While I only wish I could help you reconnect with your friends, we can at least make sure you are not deprived of something to play while you're here.

[Or music to play, heh.]

Oh god. The Mayor of Plurdville is now presenting Kheli and the train with their own award, handmade by the children in the village. Elena can’t help but bury her face in her hoodie and hope that it muffles her sobs.

How is this show so precious?

[The car wasn't crowded, so the noise made Itsuki do a double-take, spinning where she knelt to look. But her expression softened when she found the source.]

Tsubomi! It's good to see you... somehow I should have expected to find you in the greenhouse car, though. Some things never change, huh?

[There's enough dirt on her that she can't just shoot up, she'll get it everywhere. So she starts to dust herself off before rising and turning to her properly.]

Working alongside non-humans was hardly novel for Sonya. Indeed, she'd learned long ago that if they wished to fight alongside her and the military to just let them. In this case especially, he was able to get into the tree line while she was momentarily unable to.

She had no problem providing covering fire after all. Even with one gauntlet, it would be enough.

While he was fighting off the two creatures, Sonya noticed two more at his back. She blasted two of them, sending the bastards into the jungle before them.

"Take it and it will be." The answer was automatic, but it's said with a grin so Cassie knows she's not being serious.

She'd wonder why she would be that bored to watch a movie for children, but then that wouldn't explain why SHE was watching the movie either. Frankly, she was just impressed her daughter hadn't gone stir crazy by the time she arrived; meant there was hope for her.

"Picked a wrong moving showing, though."

[Have a friendly smile from a kindly Internet robot, Tsubomi!

There is, in point of fact, nothing wrong here in the slightest~]

Of course.

Which film did you pick? Out of the five, the second one is played the most, but that doesn't mean the rest aren't worth watching.

"It's karma," She answered, with more than a little self-deprivation. "Those times when you were little and I refused to play those damned 'kiddy CDs' you father bought for car trips."

She was convinced whoever made those songs really intended them for a 'humane' form of torture. Certainly it was something she'd experimented with in the past. For her child though, if she was going to be introduced to music, she'd give her a proper education; The Cure, Queen, David Bowie. She was by no means a music aficionado, but by God if she wasn't going to introduce Cass to the Classics first.f

Which, of course, meant they were both paying for it now. "They have their purposes-there was a stint when you were..two..three years old, I took those same songs and played them on loop for interrogations."

Some called it 'inhumane', but it was harmless and non-lethal so she didn't see why anyone would complain about it.

"Yeesh," Cassie says. "Better not let the UNHRC hear about that one. Especially if it was that Ninja Turtles tape."

She shudders performatively.

He easily avoids that cane, latching onto it, "You don't need this here so you might as well set it down so that it doesn't get in the way."

He can feign niceness for as long as it takes. He's going to make sure she is forced to endure the entire movie with him as a slow torment.
