Test Drive Meme 012

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Film Night

The newest carriage on the Voidtrecker Express is the long awaited cinema! It hosts many films and TV series. Perfect if passengers wish to waste an afternoon without worrying about being stolen from their worlds and hurtling through the void between worlds.

Dashing adventures, chair gripping horrors or adorable adventures of the Merry Little Voidtrain. There is something for everyone, though with only one screen arguments may be inevitable.

Fight Club

The gym carriage is definitely created more for ball games than sparring but that hasn't stopped the passengers adapting as best they can. There are homemade training dummies and plenty of people who use the space to work out and get ready for the next mission.

But there is also a cupboard full of every ball for almost every ball game there is, the two activities in one space may make for a little chaos.

Spar with people, play football. Create some mix of basketball and mixed martial arts. All training counts, right?

Jungle Heights

The latest mission has taken them to a vast jungle, where people live high in the trees. There has been an influx of tree dwelling creatures with sharp teeth, sharper claws and a love of destruction. To make things better the forest floor is not safe, damp and marshy many creatures lurk there ready to bite at ankles and it is home to a root, the sap of which burns.

Team One

Treetop fighting is an acquired skill and one the voidtreckers are having to learn quickly. Swing on vine ropes and tangle with monsters. Quick movement and quicker thinking is needed to take down the creatures in terrain they are naturals at traversing.

Team Two

People here live on platforms in the trees, with bridges and walkways connecting them. Fend off the creatures and chase them away from peoples homes. At least there is slightly solider ground beneath their feet, but they must be careful not to fall to the jungle floor beneath.

Team Three

Many of the people here are not fighters and they need help to get somewhere safer. It's a tough journey through the forest, especially when they leave the bridges and platforms of the village behind. Children may need carried and climbing from one tree to another is difficult even with sturdy branches to walk along.

They must be careful to stay in the trees, avoid getting too close to the forest floor but do not get too high, lest they attract the creatures.

Film Night

Color him almost surprised that a train, hurtling itself through the void and having managed to sufficiently trap him, has any form of plausible entertainment. Which is to say he honestly expected less with every moment he wandered through the damnable thing. Quite frankly he had already determined that by his standards the only acceptable cars was where they slept and the quiet coach. Anything that let him ignore the rabble of people and let him nap. Places of respite from the otherwise tiresome effort of pretending to care about the train beyond the important questions of unraveling its secrets. Secrets that seemed to be making his life a pain.

He had taken the time to wait until the period film was already playing to stop by again. Unfortunately that nearly halfway through he's lost all interest in. What a absolute joke of storytelling it is! He folds his arms over his chest and shakes his head. "To think this passes as entertainment. A mockery to storytelling is all it is. A gremlin could write a more compelling story than this." Yes, he's absolutely in a fine mood. Not all bitter sounding or annoyed by. Despite his complaining however he's still sitting there.

Jungle Heights - Team Three

If anyone though he would be good at handling the help kids routine they were terribly mistaken. Emet-Selch has ushered some of the older kids across, citing rather bluntly that they could stay there and die or they could move. Simple choice. Not the kindest approach but hard to argue with someone attempting to help. Unambiguously good deeds deserved some reward at some point, right? Well not exactly.

Not if the couple small children who were too scared to cross the relatively small gap between large branches were anything to go by. The gap wasn't particularly imposing but to the little ones it might as well have been a grand canyon. Tiredly does he sigh as one scooches closer. One even makes a grab to tug on his coat. "No, you are perfectly capable of crossing yourselves. 'Tis your lives you need to preserve." Okay maybe being unambiguously good isn't going exactly as planned because now they're whimpering. Ugh. He really should simply leave.

Wildcard

For finding him anywhere through the train. Whether it's he's decided to unceremoniously make himself comfortable in the way of something that someone needs access to. Decided that he's bored and he's going to hang around any certain car observing people with a few witty little quips or anything else.

1. Fight Club

All training counts. That in itself is a mood, the spirit of which Maebhrin has practiced all of her life. That may just have been the lifeline she clung to when she'd first arrived on the train, in truth!

Which is probably precisely why she has taken one of the sports balls--a 'basket ball', she'd heard it called--and is using it to balance upon, even as she works her way through what is clearly a kata of some sort. The idea for her is to keep up her balance and the dexterous movements she's weaving, and yet stay on the ball as she does so. They'd never had this sort of thing back on Aebrynis. Work on this new practice technique? Sounded good to her!!

2. Jungle Heights-Team One

Treetop fighting. That was not precisely like home, but fighting in the trees? Such a thing is not entirely alien to her. Unfortunately, the boots she's been made to use are not created for either climbing trees, or clinging to vines, Maebhrin has quickly found.

And, disgusted, she paused to take them off in the midst of fighting, tying them to her belt and going on in only her socks. At least it made her more effective, and harder to hit, despite being forced to resort to unarmed strikes. Though she's not above picking up a broken claw or tree branch and using that to savage the creatures, either...

Orisa was quite enjoying the movie thus far, so hearing that its quality didn't meet standards was quite a surprise to her. She turned without moving her lower body from its demure seat on the floor. "Please clarify. Is the fault only with the writing?"

Anything can be true, if you think it is. [Ronan shrugs.] I say plant whatever you want. It's a greenhouse, isn't it? That's what it's for.

[It's possible Ronan has a very loose grasp on what a "greenhouse" is.]

He waves one hand, a vague attempt to be dismissive of his own dislike of the film thus far. Which wasn't very effective considering he still looks offended by the terrible story. "It would be my primary complaint. A story such as this has been told a thousand times over." Or rather it has been when he's seen too many comparable alternates but details. "I would suspect they might attempt to change the formula but it appears I would be wrong."

Whimpering children. Maebhrin sighed up at the tall male. "They are frightened. If they understand their plight when fear has nigh overcome them, 'tis a wonder." Especially since she did not believe in miracles. Or gods, for that matter.

It did not trouble her that the younglings swarmed over her like monkeys, she did her best to carry them all. "No, no, not my legs. If he shall not carry you, I shall, but I need my legs to move us all, yes?" Though likely, the Sidhelien is a sight, being clung to as if she were a ship covered in barnacles. Nevertheless, she moves with care across the rope bridge with her small burdens.

"Though if you littles wish to help, and walk yourselves? I promise I will not let you come to harm." That was a promise she'd keep. She just turned to look up at Emet-Selch, then. "Are you going to follow?"

Likely it was wise if he did, but that was up to him, now.

"I have been told that there are very few actual stories in the world, and almost all forms of entertainment are about telling it in a different way," Orisa mused. "You posit that this retelling is insufficiently distinct?"

"It's more like meditation." Ronan slumps in his seat, closing his eyes. "I have an annoying medical condition."

Breathing evened out, it actually more like three minutes before Ronan sits up again. He rolls his shoulders before holding out a tiny version of the Merry Little Voidtrain. Impossibly, it looks more like an animation than a toy.

"You want it? I don't need it."

"I believe it wishes it were a training car..." Maebhrin mused. "'Tis too pitiful in its state to call it a museum, even if half the things it is outfitted with are unfamiliar to me." Oh, there were balls where the elf came from, but a certain number of the other training items are utterly unfamiliar. And there didn't seem to be any proper weaponry, save for what the train's denizens had made themselves. A dismal affair, really.

Probably why she had chosen to turn her body into a weapon. Difficult to be unarmed when you could imbue your flesh with the strength of stone or steel, and then act accordingly.

...not that she does that on the train.

"So, are you here to train, or are you simply giving critique?"

"I doubt that is true." Drizzt is familiar with gremlins and he would never expect one to write something quite like this. "I believe this was meant for children, though."

The tone in the other man's voice is one Drizzt finds familiar, though. There's a bitterness there, possibly aligned with his age, but something else he can't quite put his finger on.

"Still, I've never seen the like before." Meaning the moving pictures, of course. "It is a marvel, is it not?"

"You've the right of it." He lets out a sigh, a little long and dramatic. "Stories as old as time shall be retold tens of thousands of times over. Too few of them lack the distinction of setting them apart from their original counterpart. A struggle that this very story has. Mayhaps their choice of sharing the story was their attempt to set itself apart yet I find that it has failed."

The couple of little ones look between each other, up at him then back to her. He shrugs in utter indifference to the situation. If they were expecting him to back her up or back them up then there was a mistake. He was only along for the ride and to keep people appeased enough not to try and scold his ears off with complaints.

"Go. Hurry up." He gestures idly at the rope bridge. Again there's a moment of hesitance between the little ones before they work on slowly, one little step by one little step cross over all without failing. "I've little choice in the matter but to follow."

Not exactly true but ultimately there wasn't much else he could do that wouldn't earn someone else's ire. Which is why he moves across with zero effort. For a man who won't even stand up straight he has no issues moving. "Allowing one to overcome with fear is hardly fruitful for anyone. Far better for them to move than be paralyzed by it." If only because he didn't want to have to actually start carrying kids.

"A marvel that one can fail so spectacularly at a retelling." Maybe he would feel inclined to agree if he wasn't disappointed by the whole situation. No, he is annoyed and finds about the greatest joy from the situation comes from the complaints he can make.

"I would not consider it much in the ways of a marvel." Partly because he wanted to give nothing on the train the benefit of calling it anything but subpar. A slight shrug of his shoulders. "It is perhaps the least boring feature on this train."

A- Film Night
A short, by human standards, orange cat fellow (or lass?) can be found in the newest train car. Only they have one problem, and that is with the films people keep picking and sadly the cat isn't what one would call very... Loud.

So they approach the person picking the next film to watch and in a nervous voice stutters; "Um, c-could we watch something not so scary this time?"

B- Fight Club
Fighting wasn't really Rookie's strong point, but the gym struck them as a good place to start with learning something that isn't 'point wispon at an enemy and shoot'.

Of course, those plans go out of the door when they find the variety of balls. Turning to someone nearby, most likely bothering someone doing something else that isn't a weird game of ball, they grin and ask;

"Do you want to play ball or um, something?"

C- Jungle Heights Team Two
Oh god, why did they even volunteer for this? They could have been helping with the evacuation of non-fighters but no. They have their Wispon so why not help with the fighting?

Of course, they're doing their best but the recoil of their weapon is making things a bit harder for them to keep their footing and well. Eventually, they're going to almost slip off the edge of the platform they're on, hopefully their flailing will get grabbed by someone so they don't go splat.

"You could stay here, I certainly cannot make you do anything you do not wish to." Maebhrin was certain he wouldn't even have bothered to listen to her if there was not the ominous weight of others' potential ire pressing upon him.

As irritating as that was, Maebhrin understood peer pressure all too well. True, she was snarking about the male's indifference to it all, but she was at least allowed to do something, as well. So long as he didn't try to stop her? It was all well and good.

Or maybe he simply did not care. That might be likely, too, but again: so long as he didn't try to stop her from helping the children, that was fine. Maebhrin wasn't about to tattle. It was a waste of time.

At least the children did not fall. So that was a bonus. Though the elf was still wary--there was no telling what else remained in the trees, after all.

It can't be that bad, cause it's for kids right?

"Ah, gotcha." And that was a good enough answer for him, until he saw the tiny train. He'd become so engrossed in watching the screen again that he hadn't realized how much time had or hadn't passed. Sure, it hadn't felt like long, but it hadn't felt like he'd been sitting here for two hours, either.

Doing a double-take, he reached out to take the little voidtrain. "How did--where did this come from?" Last time he'd checked, there wasn't just random movie/show merch lying around.

Ohcomeondude.

Once upon a time, Whisper acted totally alone out of fear of connecting to people and losing them again. Even so, she still protected those who needed it - became a Guardian Angel of the Resistance. This one... the little rookie who managed to lead the way to saving Sonic, fought alongside him... Whisper helped them out once. Got a team of robots off their back before they realized it.

Now she was rescuing them again, this time using her own variable Wispon's hover mode to snatch them on a quick pass through the air, carrying them to a gentler landing.

Ronan shrugs. "Think of it like magic, if that makes you feel better."

The concept of magic seems to be safe enough to tell most people, from what he's seen. It's the fact that all his objects are made of dreamstuff that he keeps a little closer to his chest. He doubts it matters much here, away from the people who would rather he be dead than dreaming, but at the same time a lifetime of keeping his dreams a secret is hard to shake.

[Marinette is exploring the train, in having more recently found herself on it, apparently traveling....er...well she isn't sure exactly where but. Somewhere. Somewhere that doesn't seem to be Paris. But she's trying to distract herself from freaking out by exploring the different carriages, at least. Seeing who else was here and if they might have more answers, perhaps. Seeing what might be on offer in the different carriages of the train. She doesn't immediately notice the cat as she glances around, but perhaps just picks up on the bright colour, the movement as he lurks.]

Hm? Someone's cat? Is your owner somewhere nearby? I'd guess so, at least. If they brought you on this train with them.

[At least, she initially assumes it is a pet? Probably? She can't immediately tell if the cat has a collar or not. But she seems fearless enough from scratches in cautiously reaching to pet the cat.]

Must be pretty restricting for you, being cooped up on this train.

"MARINETTE?!" the cat asked, startled, recognizing the voice even before he saw her. He spun to face her. Then he launched himself at her and started rubbing his face against hers. "It's me, Spark! I haven't seen Adrien or Nino or Alya or the Doctor here yet. I smelled Rose but I couldn't find her!" he said in a rush before snuggling up against him again. Marinette was here. Maybe Adrien would show up too! And all the others!

He was so happy she was there he wasn't even asking about fish!
