Test Drive Meme 010

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

Greenhouse

The newest carriage is a greenhouse.

The ceiling is a dome shape, a single metal beam runs from one end to another, mounted on this beam are large bright lights.

The aisle of grass runs down the middle, from one door to the next. Stone paths branch off around raised beds of soil. Nothing is growing yet but there are crates in which passengers can find a whole host of seeds and bulbs for various flowers.

Plenty for passengers with green fingers to do! Plant some seeds, tend to those they have planted already. Chase away people who have no idea what they are doing! Remind them they have to take the seeds out of the packet first!

If planting is a new thing then the ICP has some handy gardening tips or they can always ask their fellow Voidtreckers!

Sports Balls

For those who prefer their hobbies much more energetic then the gym's cupboard is full of balls. Balls for every sport they can imagine! The space is long and narrow which means a little bit of adapting but there is plenty of fun to be had. Start a game of football, or basket ball.

Make some new friends and get some friendly rivalry going!

Monkey Madness!

It's a strange mission to be sure but the Voidtreckers have been called to help a huge zoo tackle a problem. Every monkey enclosure has been broken open and the creatures have gotten out and into the city, where they are causing mayhem.

Team One

Though the monkeys don't pose much threat to human life they cause quite a big of damage. Team one is to try and get as many businesses and homes safe as possible. Bring things indoors, reinforce doors and windows. Warn those in the city of the incoming horde!

Team Two

Round up the monkeys! The aim is to do this without harming and luckily they have some capture devices, that can be thrown to spring straps around a creature. Bribing them is also encouraged. The city has prepared vans for the creatures to be lured or taken to. Careful though, these monkeys are cunning and mischievous and clever enough to steal the capture devices and throw them back at the Voidtreckers! Who is catching who?

Team Three

Back in the zoo there is plenty to do. First and foremost the enclosures need fixing and reinforced. Also an investigation is underway to figure out what happened and who is responsible. If DIY or investigating work is not in a passengers skill set then there are still many other animals that need fed and cleaned!

Reward time!

Soon all the monkeys are back in their proper homes and the city put back to rights! As a thank you the zoo is handing out free ice cream and a free pass to enjoy the zoo for the day.

"They're also much bigger." Ignis pointed out with a smile on his face. There was a small laugh at hearing Noct tried to think like him and he almost asked what had been come up with when the part about strategy hit his ears.

"More of like your strategy usually entails something along the lines of 'Plough right through them' isn't it?" And of course Ignis would always reply that he would circle around. But it was a fond reminder of how the king worked in battle.

This was one of the many reasons Ignis kept close to Noctis during fights.

"Hey!" Noct laughed, trying to pretend to be offended. "Usually plowing right through them works! You know...when you're trying to actually beat them." He chuckled. "I thought laying in wait would be more your style, in this case."

If they had been trying to clear out the monkeys, he totally would have just buzzed around, attacking what he could hit. But catching something was a totally different game.

"And hey, it worked once. That's something."

The advisor took a bite of his own ice cream cone and grabbed a napkin to press against his mouth to not laugh out loud at the trying to beat them part. As it was, a small cough came out. Lying in wait..not really the king's style at all.

"I see. So I take it you rather showed these monkeys who they're messing with by catching only one." There was a smile in the green eyes as the report sank in. The dusty blonde head shook, to try and hide the grin that was threatening to appear on his face. So more ice cream was eaten to give himself a moment or two more.

"Well if it worked once, then it was a job well done indeed."

Faith in Noctis, Ignis would always have it.

Noct snorted. He wasn't sure he had meant to prove something to the whole monkey populous by capturing one of their peers, but it was a funny thought. "Nah, I was just trying to help without making a fool of myself. Those capture boxes are tricky."

Still, Ignis praising him always made him feel good. "Thanks, Iggy. I tried."

"You're rather fortunate you didn't end up in one yourself as some of your peers undoubtedly did." Ignis had seen quite a few monkeys out maneuver their captors and ended up being the hunters themselves. It was rather hilarious to watch.

The advisor nodded and smiled at the king with an affectionate tone in his voice. "Better luck next time perhaps?"

He didn't know if there would be a next time, but as long as Noct had a good time, that's what mattered.

"It was a close call." Noct said, finishing off his ice cream cone. "That's why I decided to change my strategy." He wiped his hands with his napkins and then stretched his arms.

"Hopefully, the monkeys stay where they belong. Hate to admit it, but they're smarter than they look."

Ignis ate the rest of his ice cream in silence before it could melt on him though he wasn't in a rush to finish it. Noct then spoke of strategy and that reminded him of their conversation about cooking and 'winging it.'

But with the monkeys being put back here into the zoo, they were undoubtedly far better off there than in the streets.

"They are rather clever creatures and once they've all returned, they'll be safe much like the baby black chocobo of Wiz's."

Hopefully she grew up far better behaved than the other he'd encountered.

Noct nodded, smiling fondly as he thought about the black chocobo chick. "Yeah, the world can be a rough place. It's better for them to have a place that takes care of them."

He looked at Ignis for a moment before speaking. "Hey, Iggy? Can I ask you something?"

"Indeed." Ignis replied easily, cleaning up his mess of the ice cream cone. He'd tried to be careful but the dratted thing had melted on the gloves anyhow and he focused on that. Why was ice cream so messy..other than the fact it melted?

He could feel the king's eyes on him now as he continued to try and clean his silver gloves. Having been at Noct's side since age six, Ignis had developed a sense for the other's gaze on him.

Turning to his companion finally at the question, he nodded, crumpling the used napkin in his hand. "Certainly."

"I...I'm still really confused by all this stuff." Noct said, nervously scratching the back of his neck. "I mean, doing missions and stuff isn't too different from back home, but..."

What was he trying to say here? That he was nervous about everything going on? Was he asking for permission to be nervous?

"We're gonna be okay...right?"

Green eyes took in the nervous scratch of the neck. He hadn't spent years at the king's side and not picked up on the meaning behind a habit like that. But he listened patiently as he always did, and waited before replying.

"We're going to be fine Noct. After all, we're here together again." Which was more than what he had going for him when he first arrived. Guilt had flooded through him at being separated and leaving an unconscious king abandoned and alone with what would've been his brother in law for company. And when he really had wanted to grieve, instead he'd made one of Noct's favourite dishes, hoping against hope that the king was somehow alright.

Ignis and Gladio took their positions seriously and would die before they would allow something to happen to their king. Prompto would do the same the advisor knew. And here on the train or in whatever world they traveled to, those played by rules would be no different.

Noct took a deep breath. Ignis' words were like a reassuring pat on the head. "You're right." He smiled, though it was still a nervous smile. "We're together. That's the most important thing." He had been told that Ignis had been here for a while all alone, and he felt terrible about that.

"And right now, we're together in a zoo. Should we look around?"

Noctis didn't seem like he was completely sure but there was a smile was in place. "And since you're here we can keep a better watch over you now that you've decided to grace us with your presence." Someone missed you and that smile Noct.

At the suggestion from the king, the advisor got to his feet. "Right you are." Ignis smirked. But then he turned to Noct.

"No monkeying around."

"I do rest better with you guys at my back." Noct admitted. He had been separated from them for only a little while, but it was too much.

At the pun, Noct snorted, laughing as he stood up. "That was bad, even for you, Iggy!"

"And that's right where we'll be." Ignis assured. It was something back home that Noctis would ask him from time to time. 'You got my back?' and of course the reply was 'Always'.

The advisor turned away so he wouldn't laugh too but he was pleased to hear Noct laugh. He'd tried the puns on other people but they always fell flat. Well, the king was here and they could do their puns at each other now.

Standing there with Noct now made Ignis wish he could take a picture but he just wasn't into selfies like Prompto. However, Noct had returned and it did wonders for his heart. And as he'd said before, this train doled out wishes from time to time.

"Then I shall have to try harder." He still wasn't sorry he'd made the other laugh though.

Noct stood next to Ignis, grinning. "It made me laugh, so it wasn't that bad!" He bumped shoulders with his friend. "Lead the way?"

Finally he permitted himself a small smile as Noct admitted he'd laughed. The shoulder bump lifted his spirits and he shook his head.

"I'm afraid I can't give you a tour here like I could back home. So I suppose one direction is as good as another if you've no particular destination in mind."

Noct shrugged. "Left then?" He threw out a random direction. "Away from the monkeys. I've had enough of them for today." His eyes lit up and he beamed at Ignis. "They drove us bananas, didn't they?"

Left it would be and he smiled. Watching Noct out there try to capture one had indeed been so worth staying on the sidelines for, though he had wanted to jump in there as well.

He felt that look and smirked at the king. "Left is a good direction in that case." the advisor pronounced. "If we go right, you might find that you have a monkey on your back."

The puns felt good and he laughed, careful to keep his back turned from Noct or the other might catch him laughing. Usually he wouldn't, but the distance and time had definitely taken a toll on that.

Noct started laughing again. Maybe monkeys were just intrinsically funny. Still, he tilted his head when Ignis turned away from him. It was a small thing, but Noct did take notice. He wondered if it was just because of how long Ignis has been here, or if there was more meaning to it.

"You okay?"

At the question, the advisor startled slightly. But typical Ignis response was typical. "Of course all is well." He couldn't say how much he'd missed the man beside him. Such things were hardly ever spoken of except in jest, like when Noct came back from being a toad once or twice, Ignis had said 'hoppy to see you'.

"Shall we be off?"

Noct nodded, not surprised at the stock response he got from Ignis. He started walking alongside Ignis, looking at the animals in the zoo. He stopped at an exhibit, looking at the animals inside. "I can tell when you're avoiding a topic, you know? I've known you long enough." He said, not looking at Ignis.

He had to give and Ignis knew it, because that was always the way it was. Noct would want whatever it was and Ignis would be there trying to give whatever it was to him even if he personally had to struggle his ass off, get into trouble (like being caught sneaking outside of the Citadel to go look at the stars on Noct's whim) or not yell when the prince (at the time) returned his favourite constellations book with scratches.

With a sigh he took a look at the tigers and marveled at how majestic they looked. Why had he been compared to one of these noble animals? Well it kept his mind busy as he tried to figure out a way to answer Noct. So he avoided the king's gaze as he replied, shifting a little uncomfortably. "I.." His voice faltered so he tried again. "I simply was rather thought you wouldn't put in an appearance."

Noct couldn't help but turn his gaze back to Ignis and he sort of regretted doing so. Seeing Ignis so unsure made him feel uneasy. "You mean show up here? I mean..." He watched a tiger pace and thought it looked a lot like Ignis right now...nervous and trapped. "It's not the best scenario, if time is still ticking away at home...but I am glad we're together. Back home, we had all been separated..."

"More than you realize." the advisor countered. "Gladio's timeframe in arriving here is at an earlier point in time than mine. And Prompto is from a later time than I am." He paused because facts and logic were easier to deal with than the regret of leaving Noct the way he'd left him.

Turning to the king now, Ignis nodded. "So tell me..what was the last event that took place before you arrived here Noct?"
