Test Drive Meme 008

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Knight Quest

Upstairs in the games carriage there is a VR game set. There are enough headsets and controllers for four people to play. One of the games is Knight Quest!

A game that can either be played on single adventure mode or with the other three headsets in a campaign mode. It is a typical fantasy rpg about a young hero who is searching for a magical item to save the world. The story is simple but fun and engaging. The hero has a sword and shield and fighting in this game requires some physical skill, but practice makes perfect!

Games are a good way of gaining skills so team up and save the world, fighting monsters and practising fighting in a safe controlled environment! Just… Don’t bash into each other.

Making your own Fun

The standard coach doesn’t have all that much in it. Just rows of seats, though at the front of the carriage seats have been ripped up and bookshelves installed.

It’s a good place to read or write in their journals. Or annoy other passengers by climbing from one side of the carriage to the other without touching the floor.

Rehabilitation

The train has arrived at a collection of planets. That is good because your task is finding a place for the lindusi (large lizard creatures, recently rescued from a dying planet) to be settled and the more choices the better.

Team One

The first job is predominantly scouting. The scientists in charge of the lindusi relocation project have given the team a list of important features for a planet to have.

It’s like a scavenger hunt but for running water, certain types of plants, prey animals and other features. They have lent the void treckers some basic scientific equipment for testing the environment.

Team Two

Not all of these planets are going to be empty of hostile creatures. The second teams task is to accompany the first team and keep them safe. They have been given shielding devices, easy to use energy shields large enough to fit two people behind. They are handheld and a quick press of a button will activate the shield.

There are plenty of predators, from bears to strange flying aliens that want to eat you. Good luck!

Team Three

Once a suitable planet has been found the third team are to get the lindusi there. In shuttle ships. They aren’t too difficult to pilot, which is good because the lindusi relocation program is very short staffed.

Once they are safely landed it is a case of releasing them into the wild, in safe locations away from any immediate danger. The lindusi are still recovering from their trip through space after all.

Is anything ever safe? He would like to think so. There is a part of him that will always strive for that ideal, a place of complete safety where no creature would ever be hurt. But there is another part of him that knows that can never be. Perhaps it is living so long among humans. Or perhaps it is just part of growing up. He's unsure.

He nodded though, it sounded like her abilities were many but they wouldn't exactly transfer to a whole new planet and dangers they didn't even know for sure existed. He was pretty much useless in most situation but this one even more so. He had no way to detect hidden dangers.

"You don't feel any curses or resentful energy here?"

It might not mean anything, if the energy was different. But it was a start.

She feels again, just to make sure, going silent for quite a long while as they walk at a crawl and she focuses inward, then outward.

Finally, she shakes her head. "No, there is still nothing. It feels... normal. Or rather, I sense nothing hostile at least. But I don't know how well my skills translate to foreign places. Even if we run into ghosts here, would non-human ghosts still feel to me like human ones do, or be susceptible to my techniques? That's not even starting on other dangers."

She holds up one of her acupuncture needles, the long, sturdy needles she uses for throwing in a fight.

"I don't even know if these will be of use here. My preferred way of fighting is a precise art, it relies on knowing the anatomy of my opponent." There is still her sword, of course, but she vastly prefers the long-distance fighting with her needles.

"How do people defend themselves where you are from?"

He knows nothing of ghosts, especially not alien ghosts so he has no idea of the answers to her questions. But they are not questions for him anyways.

His eyes widen ever so slightly as she holds up the needle. Though it is not a weapon he knows it is very clear that that is what it is used for. He's not afraid but there is a sense of disquiet. He may not be the most typical kirin, considering everything, but seeing the needles and knowing how much studying she must have done to know an anatomy enough to kill with a needle makes his stomach twist in a way that can at least be called apprehension.

"Um..." He blinked at her. "They have swords and shields. Other weapons as well." His voice was quieter than before. "I don't fight. Sorry."

It means he's pretty much useless if they get attacked and maybe he should have told her that before they set off on this adventure.

She halts in her steps to better size up Taiki. Her face is blank as she takes in what he has said, before she finally gives a small, solemn nod.

"I see," she says, then says nothing for a little while, letting alien birdsong fill the silence between them. That would explain why he, like her, is exploring the allegedly harmless areas. She had just assumed... She is clearly too used to the company of cultivators, where even those who have no talent for fighting have had some basic training. "Then you should stay behind me if we encounter hostile creatures."

That changes things. With a civilian to protect, she will have no time to play around with stunning the enemy as she usually prefers to do. She will have to use the sword, and lethal force, far sooner than she would normally like to.

Her eyes soften a little. "Don't worry. I won't let any harm come to you."

"I am sorry to bring this trouble on you." He looked down at the weight of her gaze, bowing his head in apology. He hopes they do not meet any hostile creatures, he doesn't want her harmed and he doesn't want any creature harmed.

He knows that things do not always work out like that but he can only hope that today at least all remains peaceful.

He's not sure how to react to her promise to allow no harm to him, or indeed what to think about it at all. He'd like to think she would have no reason to be lying, if she wanted to harm him she would have done it already. He mostly feels bad for putting this on her, for not warning her before they had set off. Would thanking her sound strange? He settled for nodding again.
