Test Drive 037
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Literary Devices
The library is a double carriage. Downstairs is brightly-coloured, with cover posters across the walls, tables and chairs in the strong colours of the team uniforms, and a wooden model train placed as though winding its way through the carriage with carriages of shelves in tow. The walls are shelving, and beanbags litter the floor. Upstairs is quieter, rows of nonfiction shelves with private desks at the end of each row; the sound up here is muffled.
You don't know who, you don't know why, but someone or something has had a bad power day. How do you know? Well, the fact that the characters of any book you read keep coming to life as tiny versions of themselves and running riot around the carriage... that might have been a clue.
You just wish you'd picked a different book before realising it.
Storage Wars
The kitchen now sprawls over two floors. Banks of industrial electric ovens, a long, steel countertop facing them. Cupboards full of oven trays and pans, racks of implements and appliances. On the first floor, sinks and modern appliances, and cupboards full of crockery.
This month, the month of Ravioli, the recipes are centred around chocolate. Chicken Mole, chocolate ravioli, cocoa chilli… it may begin to taste a little sickly sweet after the first week. Fortunately, there’s plenty of room for experimentation as people start to beg for other meals. And a lot of chocolate going spare.
And when the preparation is finished, and the meals have been sent over to the dining carriage… there are stacks, and stacks, and stacks of plates. Pots. Cutlery. And no dishwashers.
Well, no, that’s not strictly true. You’re there.
Unplugged
The latest mission has the Voidtreckers in a strangely barren city, its citizens wearing skinsuits, wired gloves and headsets. Just like the ones the dressing car put you all in..? It makes more sense when you turn on the visor and the world comes alive around you. Welcome to Amp Online! The danger this time is in the virtual world overlaid with the physical, as a wave of animal-themed viruses sweep through the cyberscape, destroying livelihoods, and perhaps lives.Team One
Primarily the fighting is limited to the virtual world. The locals are happy to upload basic combat software into Team One's gear, but the good stuff is locked behind paywalls. Hackable paywalls, definitely, but, luckily, the viruses seem to be dropping something called amp-cred when slain. Which... is apparently money, because the balance in the corner of your vision just ticked up. Time to grind. Wait, are those... limited edition skins?Team Two
The technicians and sysads insist that the viruses are totally foreign to Amp Online. So... where did they come from? Team Two is tasked with deep-diving into the network, through back-end servers rendered by their gear into dungeon-like labyrinths. The 'monster' viruses are fewer here, but instead, paths are blocked by worms and barrier-like popups. You all have tracking apps and hacking software that looks oddly gamified. Go!Team Three
Not all threats are online - after a while, a virus manages to follow a link back to the real world, and hijack something. A combat drone, a refridgerator, someone's car... Another follows, and another. Team Three are ejected from Amp Online to troubleshoot in the physical world, protecting data centers and civilian housing stacks from rogue machinery... or their own smart-homes. Ever fought a toaster? Alexa, play Ride of the Valkyries.
Usagi Tsukino (Jr) | Sailor Moon (AU)
[The camera opens to an entirely too close up image as Usagi scrambles to sit back and get away from the screen. Her cheeks are lightly dusted with pink that matches all too well with her hair.]
Sorry about that. [Usagi smiles sheepishly, twisting a strand of one pigtail between her fingers for a moment.] I've just been thinking. There are people from all over the Universe on this train, right?
[Usagi smiles, red eyes gleaming brightly as she leans forward a little bit, eager for this next bit.]
You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, but I was wondering what the stories and myths were like where everyone else is from? I've been interested in mythology ever since I was little, because the world I'm from well...
[She trails off for a moment, the pink colour returning to her cheeks again. It's always been a sore point for her, how she doesn't really feel like she lives up to the family legacy so to speak.]
My grandmother in a sense is known by many to be a Goddess. So I've always been fascinated by myths and wondering what part of those legends might actually be true. So I'd love to hear about stories from other people's worlds!
Thank you! Bye Bye!
[She bows slightly before waving and reaching back in to turn her camera off again.]
2. Unplugged - Team Three:
"Golden Moon Dreaming Kiss!"
The attack and subsequent golden light flash fill the room brightly for only a brief moment, before revealing a somewhat amused looking young woman who wore what some would call a very stylish, pretty even combat uniform.
"And dusted!" She announced to a local cheerfully, winking at them before scanning the area again senses on high alert. Sailor Neo Moon couldn't exactly say she's used to fighting vending machines, but given her life up to this point? She couldn't even say that she found it that weird. And Honestly? It's a welcome change from things that could kill her a lot easier.
Hearing a crash that sounded far more ominous than the vending machine, she jerked in it's direction only to stop because someone else seemed to be engaged with the trouble maker. Instead of darting in and getting in the way, Sailor Neo Moon stopped and called out instead.
"Hey! You good over here or would you like some help?"
3. Wildcard: Feel free to write your own prompt.
Unplugged
[Things had been a bit awkward ever since Usagi Jr. had arrived on the train. Meeting your girlfriend's daughter from an alternate future does that. Kyoko still wasn't quite sure how to talk to her.]
Re: Unplugged
I figured! But it seemed rude to not at least offer, you know?
[Yeah... it's been a little awkward, but not as awkward as it could have been. Honestly, for now she was just chalking it up to strange alternate universe shenanigans. She's lived in two different universes even before all of this happened. That doesn't mean it wasn't still a little unsettling seeing her mama dating someone not her papa, but... well, that's not really her mama anyway so it's ultimately none of her business.]
Unplugged
Usagi wasn't used to seeing her at all. She was someone from another time, another place...
And yet, darn it, that's her kid and she would protect her and she would do the same for her!
At least, Usagi hoped so as a group of washing machines was chasing her and not giving her the chance to fight back.
no subject
As she wasn't being chased, it's easy to launch an attack at them. The casual tiara toss showcasing both Sailor Neo Moon's relative disdain for their current 'enemies' and her desire to not step on Sailor Moon's boots so to speak. Because it doesn't blast all of them being such a low level ability, but it's more than enough to give the senior senshi room to catch a breath and fight back properly.
Effectively, she was just making sure not to grandstand too much. No one likes a show off after all and she wanted these strange new versions of familiar people to like her.
"They're all yours Sailor Moon!"
no subject
Summoning her Moon Stick and holding it high, she let its full power go, striking down the machines and returning them to normal.
With a soft sigh, she went to join Neo Moon.
“Thanks. I needed that.”
