Event: 12 of Beetroot

EVENT: 12 OF BEETROOT

During Rabbit 9 to 11 (OOC dates: 17th-24th May), the train will be dropping off Voidtreckers in system #2554098133741, on the island of Jema'grethy. They can relax, but another reason for visiting is to help it find its lost memories surrounding its old crew.

There is also the option for characters to share memories with one another, and enter a mental bond with them. Otherwise, this can be a time of relaxation!

During the last month - before the mission on Osiga and afterwards - some passengers have been using scientific and magical abilities in an attempt to dive into the train's data and figure out what happened to its missing crew. They have found various pieces of information, but they have also discovered that there is definitely a gap. A missing patch of memories, and any attempt to probe into that missing time only leads to the train repeating FIND THEM and locking them out.

On day eight of the month of Rabbit, the train will make an announcement thanking voidtreckers for their efforts and telling them they will be travelling to system #2554098133741. This is a place of relaxation, but also where voditreckers shared memories with each other before: this is the island of Jema'grethy, visited during the month of Llama.

Last time, the sharing of memories was an accident. This time, the train is hoping that the voidtreckers can initiate the memory sharing caves and use them to find the answers they are seeking.

They will receive the following message on their SCAs at the end of the announcement:
World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.

The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving tomorrow and leaving on day twelve of the month of Rabbit. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.




➜ GEOGRAPHY. Jema’grethy is an isolated resort island surrounded by rich reefs and several natural lagoons. 

The north is dominated by a mountainous volcano-like rupture that spills a delicious juice-like blue and pink liquid (‘Jema syrup’) rather than the lava one would expect. A large hot spring is built into the southern face of the mountain. Ruins of stone and wood dot the island, partially preserved as historical sites and free for exploration. An old fortress stands on the western cliffs overlooking the largest lagoon, also host to the main harbour.

The sky is silver, deepening to lilac and then to a dark purple throughout the day. The sun is pure white, its light soft, and rises and sets very slowly over the course of two hours. The ocean is likewise a purplish hue, though the multicoloured reefs and stones beneath the waves throw up a variety of colours in the light with the crystal clarity of the seawater.

➜ AMENITIES. SUMMARY. There are in- and outdoor hot springs, boats available in one- or two person styles; ruins that can be explored, and sea life to watch or even fish, with fishing gear available. There are also toilet facilities scattered around the island, and then the top of the volcano is a makeshift gathering spot where Jema syrup dribbles down from.

Click for full version.► The hot springs have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.

► The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.

► The ruins are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.

► In the mornings and evenings, the lagoons fill with a variety of sea life, and shacks along the harbour contain all the fishing gear one would need to catch some of it, and a long outdoor barbeque pit set further back into the interior for the cooking thereof. None of the creatures that can enter the shallow entrance to the lagoon are threatening in any way to anything larger than an anchovy. 

► There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.

► The summit of the mountain is clearly a gathering place; there are worn wooden benches spaced around the lip of the caldera in concentric circles, the centre set up like an amphitheatre. The Jema syrup spills from crevices around the edges, running down from the peak in well-worn grooves and channels.


➜ TRAIN PREPARATIONS. They will have a few hours to get ready for their time there though the train will remain with them on the island for those that wish to sleep in their own beds! Wherever they sleep passengers will find their dreams pleasant and wake each day feeling relaxed and refreshed.

The dressing car is once again open with a variety of beachwear and wetsuits, as well as a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours. One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.

If this all sounds perfect then it can be, your character can have a three day holiday and rest from the madness of their time on the train.



The last time Voidtreckers were here, they shared memories with another Voidtrecker. This time, the train has done some research to learn how to trigger this 'life bonding' mechanic. This means that voidtreckers can choose, if they wish, to share memories with another voidtrecker, and enter into a bond with them.

But as with anything of this nature, it is still possible for this to happen accidentally. So if you wish for your character to be paired with a random other person to enter a bond, there is a place below to sign up for a random partner.

For the bond to occur, characters will share three memories over the three days:
Memory One: Must be a scene or moment from the final 48 hours before they arrived on the platform. This can be as mundane as eating breakfast or as dramatic as fighting a dragon, and as long or short as you like (within reason). For clarity, for CRAUs it would be from the final 48 hours in their previous game. If they have canon-updated before entering Voidtreckers, then it will be from the final 48 hours of their canon update.

Memory Two: Can be from anywhere in their life but must be a positive memory. It doesn’t have to be their best memory (but it can be!) It can be any moment your character has been triumphant, felt safe or loved, been happy, content with life, victorious, etc. This can be as long or short as you like (within reason).

Memory Three: Can be from anywhere in their life but must be a negative memory. It doesn’t have to be their worst memory (again, it can be) but it must be time when your character has been defeated, hurt, angry, sad, lost, alone, etc. This can be as long or short as you like (within reason)
These memories will be shared by them entering a 'memory cave'- a spiritual place where they encounter each others memories and then spend some time speaking about it.

After the final memory, they can chose to leave together through a single exit which will result in a bond. This bond can be as simple as having a general sense of where the other is, or as strong as sharing feelings and dreams.

➜ MEMORY MAZE. The train will explain that it believes they can use the memory caves on the island to discover the part of its history that it is missing. It will ask for volunteers to attempt to find them.

Those that attempt this will find themselves in a cave labyrinth, where memories lie behind every corner. They might walk into a cave to find it their childhood bedroom, or be plunged into a dark day or their happiest moment without warning. Memories might blur with other voidtreckers, not quite right but a mix of two events. This will be a much more free form version of a memory share where short snippets of memories can be shared with lots of characters.

Note, that people will know these are memories. Those with illusionary-resistant gifts or the beads from the void nexus during the month of Llama will be able to find it easier to navigate out of the memory.

Those who go into the memory maze can sign up to receive a piece of the missing snippets of train memories.

On the final evening the train will ask all those who wish to to gather on the summit of the mountain where they will hopefully, finally, get the answers they are looking for.



~ At it's most simple this event is a holiday, you can have your characters just enjoying the sea, sun and hot springs if you wish.

~ For those that want some memory sharing/bonds with another character there is the option for them to go through a three part memory share leading to bonding with another voidtrecker. They can either decide to do this or it can happen accidentally - and be rng'd. You can plot for pairs here, let us know about pairs here and sign up for rng here.

~ The memory maze is a memory sharing event that is a little more chaotic. This will allow memory sharing with a whole variety of people. As part of their journey through this memory maze characters can find pieces of the train's missing memories. To sign up for this go here.

~ Characters can do all of the above or just one of the above or any mix of the above!

If a character already has a bond and still has it will they only be allowed to have that one bond?

Content warnings/themes: His permissions post gives you the canon overview but I’ll also add on that he’s spent his whole life with a demon stuck in him and slowly corrupting him, which might be triggery for characters who have issues with possession; I tend to write this as being somewhat analogous to things ranging from a severe untreated mental illness, a drug addiction, or a long term toxic relationship; he has seen a LOT of death and disease, and general societal injustice in his line of work; any scenes from his childhood will probably deal with child abandonment, neglect, and/or death either implicitly or explicitly; and that the internal ableism I mention in his permissions post is 100% a result of constantly dealing with societal ableism. Also, as he’s been blind his entire life none of his memories have visuals, which might be jarring for any sighted characters after the fact.
Memories: I’d probably discuss this beforehand with whoever I match up with- if we’re going to be informed of that- but the main ideas I have are…

Recent: Probably Rezo being stuck in the back of the metaphorical car while Shabranigdu fucks up the country of Taforashia, doing his level best to hold a God of destruction back through sheer willpower alone. Could include his very final interaction with Pokota before the Giga Slave vaporizes him.

Positive: This would likely be either mundane memories of back when he still had a family- so probably just cute little interactions with his son or maybe Zelgadis- or a major success in his career, such as succeeding in treating somebody’s cancer.

Negative: This is entirely a headcanon scene but I’ve had this mental image for a while of a time in Rezo’s childhood when he was sick enough it looked like he might die and he overheard some of the staff at the children’s home discussing how it would probably be better if he dies because he doesn’t have much of a future anyway with his blindness.
Anything else: He will be very unhappy about all of this because he’s both a very private person and he’s terrified of the possibility that Shabranigdu is still in his head and might be able to body leap if he gets involved in a psychic connection like this. (Shabranigdu is not, but it’s a difficult thing for him to confirm.)

While I'm technically hiatused, this is precisely the event I've been really hoping to be able to experience again, so I will be doing one of two things. Either I will miraculously acquire energy when the event arrives, or I am...SUPER backdating some stuff rip rip-

I need some BONDS over here! So if anyone wants a bond with Emporio, Kiyoiri, or Jonouchi, let me know! If there's multiples after someone then uhhhhh...we can hash out some stuff I guess, but we do have a memory maze as well after all.

Mostly a confirmation; since the last step for lifebonds is to walk TOGETHER out of the cave, I assume it's possible to share the memories of a lifebond, but not complete it?

Also, can Esteban get fire dancing tools anywhere on that resort island? He doesn't care if they're on loan, it's not a summer party until there's fire spinning involved.

I'm going to semi- be on hiatus during the event, but if anyone would like to do a thing, if somewhat planned or just as a 'I'd like to do anything' loose thing, I'll look out for toplevels when possible!

Memories: Tidus will be doing the memory caves to help search out the train's lost memories. On his side, he's going to be fairly 'okay' about any of his memories seen - positive, negative or neutral. He's been through this rodeo of memories being shared before, and he accepts what he is and his current situation, to an extent.

So for him, memories surrounding death, loss of family, existence can be had, memories of his own home, memories of being in someone else's memories (or, dreams). Anything to do with his canon is free game, from a very advanced technological city, to beaches with wooden ports or tents for villages.

Holiday: beach beach beach beach BEACH BEACH BEACH. Okay, Tidus won't be going wild on this stay, but he'll be happy and be doing basically anything and everything he has time for. Trying to fish?? Sure, let's try it!!! Want to take a boat ride? Go exploring? Relax in hot springs? Alllriiight.

However, Tidus will be contemplative and have some quiet moments. The last time he was here, he had to wrangle about some choices made in the past, and it was close to the time before Yuna disappeared. So, is this boy going to be whistling some for no apparent reason?? You betcha.

If your character needs someone to nudge them into having fun or trying something out, Tidus can attempt to help! Right after he nags the train for some more time on the island.

OH YES ALSO ROMEO AND TIDUS WILL BE PROVIDING SUPER SOAKERS. HAVE FUN.
