Test Drive 032

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Culinary Containment

Every month, the train's stores are filled with crates of ingredients for use by its passengers. And every month, one ingredient is the focal point of all recipes. Potatoes, cinnamon, seaweed… but as the train pulls away from the station this month, there seems to have been a blip in the system when it comes to deciding on a biologically-appropriate foodstuff.

Spilling out from the storage carriage and into the kitchen are hundreds of live frogs. They're in the sinks, they're in the ovens, they're hopping alarmingly close to the transgates that link the area up to the sleepers...

Vote-Rigging

At the behest of its passengers, the train has instituted a voting system to allow for more carriage options and upgrades. Passengers are able to submit new ideas, or crowdfund those already suggested...

It's the night before platform, and all through the train, no one was stirring... Apart from your group, with your stockpile of a thousand points and the luminous voting panel you're all currently pouring them into. Bouncy castle carriage? Funded! Fishing carriage? Funded! Clocks? Eh... You have the points. Funded!

Then it's simply a matter of waiting for the morning, and seeing the chaos you've caused to the layout of the Voidtrecker Express. What new delights have you discovered?

Repo Train

The Void Ministry have another task for the Express: locating and repossessing the contents of a number of minor storage craft in an old mercantile zone. The coordinates are given, a small fleet of space-worthy craft and sufficient hazmat gear has been deposited at the meeting site for Voidtrecker use.

The main area is cushy enough, a round communal area surrounded by living pods renovated for basic Voidtrecker requirements. The hangar above allows for groups to head to the next assigned storage location, or to return with their piles of lawfully impounded gains.
Team One
High-risk storage locations are this team's priority. Potentially explosive material, artifacts or experiments without the requisite paperwork explaining how or why they were made, sometimes living creatures, the kind that shouldn't have been left in a large metal crate habitat for a decade. Opening these areas is a study in initiative and dealing with unpleasant surprises!
Team Two
This team are the back-up for the first group - once the artifacts, creatures or hazardous material has been made safe and brought back, they have to be recorded. Scanned. Studied, and compared to the extensive lists of potential contraband or lost goods. Sometimes, they're not quite as safe as you'd like.
Team Three
Some locations, rather than being used for the storage for which they were intended, have been repurposed by sapients who have developed within the system since the depot was created. Short, furred people with clever, webbed hands and high voices, they've turned crates and ships into cramped, partially-submerged warrens. This team is cleared to assess the damage done, and, if the current official owners of the stores will agree, process the change in ownership to the Su Samuru. Not all owners are happy with their squatters, however...

Sakura Haruno | Naruto (AU)

Lost inside (TW: Confusion, irritability, and other symptoms due to dehydration)

[Sakura came to awareness with a pain-filled groan. She felt like shit. She had cramps all over and felt weak, barely able to move. Closing her eyes in annoyance, she tried to calm her rapid heartbeat and swallowed. Or she tried to.

Her throat felt so dry...Why was it so dry? Letting out a small moan of discomfort, she opened her eyes and slowly turned her head to see where she was.

Expecting the sight of anything familiar, she frowned tiredly at the strange environment she was in. This wasn't Konoha...Or even anywhere outside. Was she inside some building? Looking around for her teammates, she frowned in confusion when she didn't see them.

Where was her team? Kakashi-sensei...Naruto...and Sasuke-kun...Wait! Naruto and Sasuke! Where were they?!

Jolting to attention, she tried pushing herself up to look around in alarm. Shaking, it took her several tries before she could look around, crying weakly for her teammates.]

N-N-Naruto! Sas-Sasu-Sasuke-kun! Where are you?!

[Panic rose like a tidal wave as she looked around desperately for them. Where were they?! They couldn't have left without her! No! Not again! I just got them back!

Standing up on shaking legs, she feverishly searched for her teammates as she shivered intensely. She was so cold! Why? What was going on?! There was something in the back of her mind that was trying to tell her something but she was panicking too much to care.

Staggering around as she looked for them in the cars, she froze when she noticed someone watching her. Turning slowly to meet the others' eyes, she frowned and opened her mouth to ask before her suspicion shook her core. Maybe she was captured by enemies! Maybe the others were captured as well!

Glaring at the strangers, she staggered dangerously towards them, her eyes unfocused yet filled with dark intent.]

Where are my teammates?! Where...WHERE HAVE YOU TAKEN ME?!

Shattered (TW: Memories of deaths, war times, survivor's guilt and self-hate)

[After getting some liquids and rest in her, she was starting to feel better. She was still weak but she could think clearly now. The more her mind cleared, the more her memories returned. Specifically the memories of her death and the events leading to it.

Naruto...Sasuke...they were gone. This time for good. She couldn't free them from that seal even if she wanted to. And that was if they had even survived being sealed with that monster.

Tears started to drip down her face as everything she had been through these last couple of weeks collided with her. All of the death, all the pain...Her hands bloody from all the failed procedures, the screams of the dying, her friend's dads' deaths...What was it all for?

She had lost them again...Naruto and Sasuke. Her dreams of bringing them back home were fading as reality stared her down. She was never going to see them again. Naruto, Sasuke-kun, Kakashi-sensei...her friends, Shizune-senpai, Shishou...Ino.

I'm sorry Ino. ...Looks like I failed again. Still as useless as before it seems...heh. Why...Why did you ever believe in me? Why...Why did they save me?

The memories of her boys' faces as they pushed her away from Kaguya, sad yet determined filled her head. Of their genin times, all the times they had protected her. Their fight when she found out they had joined the Akatsuki...

Kakashi-sensei's warm embrace as he desperately held her after her nearly fatal mission...That same man, prioritizing her survival as they struggled through that desert...His cold hands slack as she desperately tried to wake him.

Her first kiss with Ino...the teasing of their friends as she blushed furiously. Shizune's kindness as she struggled with Tsunade's teachings. Tears ran down her cheeks as she remembered everything. Curling into herself, she stared unseeing at the ceiling of the car as she silently cried for all she has lost.]

Is it too late to apologize?

[A couple days after her arrival, Sakura decided to try out the network. She was quite new with technology like this, having only seen such advanced technology in desperate times. Still, she had some apologies to do...So weird technology it is.

A message for everyone starts with hoarse coughing before a raspy deep breath and quiet, hesitant voice breaks the silence.]

Hello everyone...This is Haruno Sakura. When I arrived a few days ago, I was...out of control and disoriented. I apologize for any discomfort I caused anyone while I was in this state. I am still recovering but I hope to be of help once I recover. I specialize in physical injuries but there may be things I can do with mental health.

If you're wondering why I'm doing this voice call instead of contacting the people I bothered...the details from that time are fuzzy for me. The fever and dehydration did wonders for my awareness. Thank you for your time.

Moondust

[After a couple days of recovering from dehydration, she was feeling better. She felt strong enough to walk around and talk to the others here. There was quite a collection of strange people here. She just hoped they wouldn't turn out like her loved ones.

Interacting with strangers was hard for her to do, still feeling the hole in her heart from the loss of her loved ones. But she had promised those same people to try and live her life. With or without them...

After many hours of social interaction, she had decided to retreat to a secluded area of one of the carriages. She sat there staring at the windows with her knees up to her chest. Her head rested on her knees as she stared at the sights past the glass.

Completely still, she only moves to open her mouth when someone approaches.]

...Do you think we'll see them again? Our loved ones? Or are we destined to never see them again...

[For someone that isn't a healer or tracker, you always have ways of finding out about things going on on the train. Whether that be through friends, or hearing rumors of things running wild. More of the latter in this particular case, but the names that had been yelled when she'd arrived half crazed was what had caught her attention the most. Someone that was from their world, or some semblance of it, she'd come to realize that time wasn't exactly the same everywhere.

Which might be why she's done her due diligence in hunting the girl down, wrapped in a more practical leather and fur coat that covers the majority of the red polo and a good bit of the cargo pants that go with it. Though her red hair is, for the time being, pulled up into the usual buns she tended to be depicted with.

She almost hopes she recognizes she's there before she speaks, but given the motions...

Well, she didn't.]

You gave everyone quite a fright out there, you know. Not exactly normal that someone ends up on the train acting like that. [Her voice remains soft, empathetic, not accusatory in the slightest.]

I take it that you lost some people very important before you ended up here? And that things weren't... in the best of circumstances? [Hey, if nothing else, she at least has kept up with storing her chakra much in the same way her granddaughter did, something to tie her to the familiar.]
shatteredblossom: (Crying)

HELLO!

[personal profile] shatteredblossom 2022-01-18 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
[At first there was no reaction from Sakura to Mito's words. Not even a twitch in her direction as she stared at the ceiling in pain. Only a small hitch of breath every so often disturbed the silence. But a moment, a weak and hoarse voice came out of the unmoving girl.]

...I apologize for the disturbance I caused. I...I was not myself.

[She spoke in a distant tone, almost emotionless in it's entirety. Yet the shaking and quiet sobbing would fool no one. She went silent again before slightly tilting her head in Mito's direction and nodded slowly, almost like moving was too hard to do. More hitched breaths filled the silence before the same voice hesitantly replied again.]

Yes...my teammates...Th-they were my family.

[Part of her wanted to scream and lash out, both at the world and at herself for being weak but she was too tired to care. She continued staring mournfully at Mito in silence as she waited for her to leave. She just wanted to be alone.]
first_host: (But...)

[personal profile] first_host 2022-01-19 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[If she expected her to leave, then she was sorely mistaken. Having been a mother, a grandmother, she knows better than to leave someone alone when they're like this. Particularly knowing it's someone that absolutely had to have been from her village, future or alternate future not mattering.

Though when she speaks, she nods slowly. Apologizing for something that made sense and it having been caused by the loss of her teammates? She could understand.]

You were of Konoha, were you not? [She moves to carefully move to the edge of the bed, to sit if there is room. To offer some sort of comfort if Sakura wishes to seek it out or use it, she's been in this position far too much in her long lifespan.]

I can understand how it is to lose people to close to me. I've lost family, time and time again, to both age and... other factors. Seen it happen to others. Whether in the right or wrong at the time. [She takes a deep breath to calm her nerves, knowing she needs to be more of a rock in this situation than she has been in years.]

Do you know what I did when my husband passed? [Because this is absolutely not her best moment, she will admit to that.]
shatteredblossom: (Crying)

[personal profile] shatteredblossom 2022-01-19 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Sakura eyed Mito move closer to the edge of the bed blankly. She didn't understand. Why was this woman still here? Surely she had more important things to do than comfort someone like her? Especially after causing so much trouble for everyone...

Still, while Sakura didn't move closer to Mito, she didn't move away either, staring at the red-haired woman mournfully through puffy eyes. As she listened to Mito talk, some more tears slipped down her cheeks as she looked down at the ground in sorrow. Of course, she wasn't the only one suffering. Yet here she was being a bother to everyone and sniveling like a child. How pathetic.

Her inner self-loathing tirade was interrupted by the question Mito gave her, causing her to look up in curiosity. Her husband? After a moment of silent thought, Sakura spoke again with a small hesitant voice.]

What...

[She stopped before gathering herself to ask again.]

What did you do?

( Her arrival had been quite a fuss but all things considered the majority of people on this train were good people, she was in good hands. He chose a more quiet time to seek her out and, though noted differences, she was still Haruno Sakura. Tobirama could easily track her down to the carriage she had come to sit in.

A place like this, for them he imagines, took some getting used to. Its the lack of freedom, the lack of green, nature and space to occupy, that the Senju felt the most, personally. Still, with tea in hand he approaches light-footed as always and offers her a cup. She looked younger, too. A little more worn but from what he could tell... she hadn't been taken from extraordinarily good circumstances.
)

Those who may know have not been forthcoming ( its not a great encouragement but he's a blunt man and would rather be honest than lie for sake of kindness. ) Although there are attempts to understand our situation, so... ( Tobirama moves to sit not to far from her with his own tea ) hard to say, presently. More importantly ( a nod toward Sakura ) how are you fairing?
shatteredblossom: (Wondering)

Hello! (Forgive my attempt at of japanese honorifics and/or words)

[personal profile] shatteredblossom 2022-01-18 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[After a moment of hesitance, Sakura turned her head towards the voice to properly see them. When she took in the sight of the Senju Tobirama in the flesh, her eyes widened in shock. The Nidaime Hokage was here?

Stunned but remembering her manners, she quickly adjusted into a better position and took the offered tea from Tobirama. Offering a small thank you, she took a small sip of her tea and let out a sigh of resigned acceptance.]

I see...That is to be expected I suppose.

[Silence filled the air again as she looked away to look outside. After a moment of faraway thoughts, she looked back at her superior, before staring at her drink's surface.]

...I've been better. Still not used to all this...

[She motioned to the train car around her vaguely before continuing.]

I'm just...still reeling from everything.
stonefvced: (o25.)

Hello, and no worries!

[personal profile] stonefvced 2022-01-21 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
( While honest, he wasn't entirely tactless. Tobirama knew that the best way for them to all be prepared was to relay the full extent of the current known truth, and he would in time, but only in time. Considering her health first. He'd argue that this situation is anything but to be suspected. Someone with honest motives wouldn't be quite as... well, you know. It was his nature to be critical, he supposed. At first, it just rewards her with a hum. Eyes not leaving Sakura for a moment. )

Understandably. It's a lot to accept. ( Some may view this as a second chance, a new beginning -- some were brought back from the edge of their lives to start anew. He wouldn't want to take that from anyone but the principle or lack thereof of all this was what got him. And how... muddy things were. ) Allow me to offer you what I can, when you're ready to ask.

The blue-skinned woman tilts her head, opening up to the Force and feeling the sheer pain coming from this girl. She closes again, quickly, before she herself begins to cry, and her eyes are even so a little damp.

"My order believes that we all pass into the greater Force when we pass. Some beings, of strong will and with a deep desire to remember, can come back as spirits to speak to the living and impart their wisdom to us. Other beings use their rage to become vengeful creatures of the Force, clawing for one more moment of a stolen life. But... after we pass into the Force, we are part of all life, all things. I can't believe that as long as we are all there, we can't find the spirits of those we loved again." She pauses, gathering her thoughts.

"There are even stories of the raging ones, the dark wraiths, having those that cared for them in life pulling them back into the Force. If that kind of love exists past the end of our physical forms, then when we pass from ours, those we loved will be there for us to embrace us when we return to them."

She reaches out through the Force, and a cup of water floats to her hand, which then puts the cup on the table.

"When was the last time you ate?" she asks softly.

[Slowly Sakura turned her head to look at the person talking to her, some fresh tears slowly trailing down her cheeks. She didn't understand this Force this woman talked about but it didn't sound that much different from what she had learned. And the more she listened, the more she began to fill hope blossom in her. Maybe she would see them again. Wiping her eyes from tears, she offered a weak smile to the woman and spoke in a soft voice.]

Perhaps you're right. I certainly hope so. As for food...

[She offered a sheepish smile as she watched the cup in interest. How did that work? Was that how things worked here? Or was it something only for this stranger?]

...It might have been a while...

“I’m Mala-Tam. Hold on a moment.”

She goes into the kitchen. There are noises. And then she arrives with a bowl of a thick, pale soup, which she places in front of the girl.

“This shouldn’t be too hard to eat. My master was a believer in the idea that food and rest were, if not a cure for all ills, at least made them easier to deal with. After that, maybe somewhere else. I think the garden is nice, myself.”

The soup is a potato soup, mostly smooth but with some chunks of potato, and fragments of meat throughout as well. It’s just a little salty. (Frog meat is sometimes hard to work with, but you do what you can.)
