Test Drive 031

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Winter Wonderland

Experienced Voidtreckers will be the first to recognise when the announcement of a stop comes over the speakers: “Arriving at world 9126110 in ten, nine, eight…”

The doors don’t open, the train doesn’t stop. Instead, it slows, and the garden carriage opens its curved, clear roof as though it were a convertible, both sides folding back until the carriage is open to the air. The world is a picture of snow-covered mountains and sparse conifers, and within minutes the garden’s fountain and streams have iced over, soft snow coating the cobbles and benches.

The stop lasts all day, the vending machines dispense free hot chocolate, and the dressing carriage is filled with thick coats, wooly hats, and warm gloves.

Void Santa Is Coming To Town

It’s a day like any other, except that the morning announcement has a rider.

“There are packages in the luggage car for all passengers. Enjoy. ”

And indeed, it seems that something has visited during the night - the carriage at the back of the train is unusually neat, the piles of empty luggage stacked carefully near the back to make room for a huge array of wrapped objects. Void Santa, maybe? The difference between Void Santa and, say, one of the many Earth Santas or the Gyueran Spirit of Generosity, is that Void Santa doesn’t give you what you asked for.

It gives you something you wouldn’t have dared to ask for. That nerdy figurine that you eyed in the window of the store, the dress you weren’t brave enough to try on, the device you decided was too expensive. The poster of your favourite holostar, the latest risque novel from the local printworks… the list goes on.

You’ve got a present in here, better find it before someone else does!

Meltdown

You have arrived in a place which might remind you of Victoria London if Victoria London had floating palaces and was ruled by wizards.

Their rule is strict and any kind of Winter celebration is banned. You have been called by a group of rebels to help with an underground celebration.

Team One

Distraction. Be out in the city, keep watch. If the guards get anywhere near the secret entrances distract them. Perhaps by being a lost tourist. Perhaps by causing mayhem. Make sure the organisers and party goers can arrive without a hitch.

Team Two

A party is not complete without food. The party is being held underground and there isn't much in the way of kitchens and do help bake in people's houses and smuggle the food across the city. Careful of guards.

Team Three

The venue needs decorating and the presents need wrapped. It might be an underground bunker but everyone is determined to make it the best festival ever, despite the risks. Help make it happen!

Party

Mission complete it is of course time to party! Eat drink and be merry before you return to the void once more.

Winter Wonderland

When the carriages open up, the temperature immediately drops. Faux lets out a quiet sigh of relief, relishing the cold. It’s the best he’s felt since coming on board. Not so for the majority of the crew, as he watches as they gather around racks full of oddly colored outerwear that make his full uniform look comfortable.

Having no need for any extra outerwear to enjoy this new place, Faux observes his surroundings, noting the thick white layer of snow coating everything. He has seen snow before, but not as dense as this. A pile has managed to fall onto the carriage he’s on. It looks puffy like a cloud. He picks it up and scrunches it between his hands, feeling the coolness along his circuits.

Unbeknownst to Faux, someone onboard might take this as a completely different motivation altogether.

Void Santa Is Coming To Town

Odd. Packages? Certainly not for him. And Faux sure doesn’t need anything more than what he has.

Sure he’s received gifts from his creator and friends on sparing occasions, but who is this Void Santa? Should he be worried?

He scratches his head as he walks towards the luggage car as directed to investigate this mystery. Curious now about what it could be.

“I didn’t ask for anything.”

Team Two

Faux’s eyes creep around the last corner and find the secret entrance clear. He releases a small smile, Objective completed.

Moving his way into the underground space that will house this party, his pace has been steadily declining into an awkward waddle. Thankfully he quickly finds a place for his sequestered dessert. Now, all he has to do is remove it from his code. This latest smuggling attempt had been pushing things he knows. Shoving dinner plates of food between the gaps of his code… Well, he’s probably going to be picking pieces of user foodstuff from his disk for some time. But it's all for a good cause.

Bringing up his disk, he pulls out an entire bowl of jelly covered with pointy sprinkled tops. Or they were, they’ve deflated somewhat.

Hopefully nobody noticed.

Team Three

Wrapping. Faux sure doesn’t get it. But he’ll do what he can to help.

After taking in the sequence of instructions necessary to wrap a present, he follows them through, starting by cutting his foil tape into smaller pieces, layering them along his arm for easy access as he observed many others do, and set about getting those presents covered in copious amounts of paper and adornments.

His first one didn’t come out too bad. Not perfect, he knows his brother would say, while making him do it over again until it fits his impossible standards. He quickly quashes the dark thought and refocuses on finishing up his first gift to someone more deserving of his attention.

Armed with a roll of semi embroidered ribbon, an exaggerated pull unfurls a good length of it, too much. The roll slips out of his hand and the copious amounts of ribbon flies at someone nearby.

Oops.

Byleth caught the ribbon reflexively, and started to rewind it around the roll. She glanced at Faux.

"Do you want some help?" She asked as she offered him the roll of ribbon back.

Embarrassed, Faux lets a out small cringe at his gaff, as he gratefully accepts the roll of ribbon back.

He faces Byleth's way apologetically. "Ah, sorry bout that. Seems disk throwing's made me a little too vigorous at the wrist."

After hearing her offer, he answers with a smile, gesturing to his unevenly taped project. "First time wrapping anything. Where I come from, everything comes in boxes. If your willing to show me some pointers, I won't say no."

"It's no trouble. Some of my students taught me, since I had never wrapped anything either. Before I was a professor, I was a mercenary."

Byleth paused and smiled slightly as she eyed his work. "There wasn't much call for wrapping presents in that lifestyle."

"I'll tell you what they told me: everything must be symmetrical. Ideally, at least."

"A mercenary?..." Faux wonders what kind of function that is. He has heard of the term 'mercenary' in regards to a functions actions, but those were primarily referred to as pirate programs. Real pirate programs, and not just the custom insult at the time.

Hearing Blythe's advice, he immediately shifts his gaze back to his very unsymmetrical project. He can already feel his brother smirking his way, even if only through his own thoughts. Though he gives himself some small credit, the object under the wrapping was decidedly unshapely to start off with.

He nods at Blythe, "I've been finding symmetry rather hard within this.. physical world. Everything always seems to want to go the opposite way." He gives a small chuckle. "I think I've acquired some appreciation of how rough you users have it out here now."
