Test Drive 031
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Winter Wonderland
Experienced Voidtreckers will be the first to recognise when the announcement of a stop comes over the speakers: “Arriving at world 9126110 in ten, nine, eight…”
The doors don’t open, the train doesn’t stop. Instead, it slows, and the garden carriage opens its curved, clear roof as though it were a convertible, both sides folding back until the carriage is open to the air. The world is a picture of snow-covered mountains and sparse conifers, and within minutes the garden’s fountain and streams have iced over, soft snow coating the cobbles and benches.
The stop lasts all day, the vending machines dispense free hot chocolate, and the dressing carriage is filled with thick coats, wooly hats, and warm gloves.
Void Santa Is Coming To Town
It’s a day like any other, except that the morning announcement has a rider.
“There are packages in the luggage car for all passengers. Enjoy. ”
And indeed, it seems that something has visited during the night - the carriage at the back of the train is unusually neat, the piles of empty luggage stacked carefully near the back to make room for a huge array of wrapped objects. Void Santa, maybe? The difference between Void Santa and, say, one of the many Earth Santas or the Gyueran Spirit of Generosity, is that Void Santa doesn’t give you what you asked for.
It gives you something you wouldn’t have dared to ask for. That nerdy figurine that you eyed in the window of the store, the dress you weren’t brave enough to try on, the device you decided was too expensive. The poster of your favourite holostar, the latest risque novel from the local printworks… the list goes on.
You’ve got a present in here, better find it before someone else does!
Meltdown
You have arrived in a place which might remind you of Victoria London if Victoria London had floating palaces and was ruled by wizards.
Their rule is strict and any kind of Winter celebration is banned. You have been called by a group of rebels to help with an underground celebration.Team One
Distraction. Be out in the city, keep watch. If the guards get anywhere near the secret entrances distract them. Perhaps by being a lost tourist. Perhaps by causing mayhem. Make sure the organisers and party goers can arrive without a hitch.Team Two
A party is not complete without food. The party is being held underground and there isn't much in the way of kitchens and do help bake in people's houses and smuggle the food across the city. Careful of guards.Team Three
The venue needs decorating and the presents need wrapped. It might be an underground bunker but everyone is determined to make it the best festival ever, despite the risks. Help make it happen!Party
Mission complete it is of course time to party! Eat drink and be merry before you return to the void once more.
Connor | Detroit Become Human | OU
[When the countdown begins, Connor's already in the garden carriage sitting cross-legged on one of the larger rocks. Gardens haven't always been the best place for him, but this one is somehow different. It's lacking all organic plants. No roses. It's just peaceful, only the white noise, of the fountain playing and of the train rumbling along the tracks, and...
A countdown, followed not by the train stopping but by the whole ceiling suddenly detaching from itself and sliding back. A sudden chill breeze blows the stray strand of hair back from his face.
The LED light on his temple flickers immediately red and he's on his feet and jumping to the ground before he thinks about what he's doing. But...the chill is manageable. Visibility is clear. And there are other people here too.
He's fine. Nothing is wrong.
...But he doesn't sit back down just yet. Can't relax enough for that. He goes up to one of the other people in the park instead.]
Has this ever happened before?
[Indulge him, crewmate. He's fidgety and a bit nervous.]
Team One
[Connor's taking this standing guard thing super seriously, ok. There's a beanie hat hiding his LED for full anonymity and he's standing nearby one of the secret entrances, keeping a look out, watching each end of the small, crowded alley for the telltale sight of a guard uniform.
And there come two of them. The taller of the two looks at Connor for just a little too long for his liking.
Think fast, lookout partner. Connor's looking at you.]
Look, I saw it on the map, OK? [He waves the paper map he's suddenly holding, very animated.] The Voidmancer monument is definitely around here somewhere. I can feel it.
Party
[Connor's been in some underground bunkers and secret hideouts in his time, but...never a party. And it's...pretty nice, actually. No orders, no odd looks - people actually smile as they pass, and Connor's actually started smiling back, albeit a bit lopsidedly.
At some point someone gives him a sausage roll wrapped in paper and a drink and tells him to eat up, there's plenty. He stands with these very awkwardly for a few moments...then spots someone making a beeline for the food table.]
Here you go. There's plenty.
[Mission accomplished. His hands are empty once more.]

[ Jacques Rothbert---er, sorry, Jake---adjusts his fedora against the breeze as he spins up a story. Surely his disguise is surely extremely convincing. ]
Oh, Murphy, your tastes are bold indeed. Is that not a tribute to an incredibly dark piece of our history? But...yes, you're absolutely right. Somber reverence is precisely what's called for today.
Let us ask these distinguished gentlemen! Excuse me, do you know which would be the most efficient route?
[ The guards give him a Look. They don't seem happy about the prospect of wasted time...uh oh.
He looks at Connor for suggestions. Where to go from here? ]
no subject
You know what they say, my friend - those who don't reflect on their history are doomed to repeat it.
[That is not the exact quote and it annoys him.]
Or don't learn from it...or something.
[...Smooth.]
Hm? Oh, gentlemen!
[They don't look happy, but it's better for them to be angry with annoying tourists than with lawbreakers. He steps over with his map, preparing several very annoying, rapid-fire questions about the layout of the town and the exact location of several monuments.
But he doesn't get that far.]
How many tourists have we arrested this year? [One guard very loudly asks this to the other.]
((Me: I'll post on the TDM and then tag back at my mum's!
My mum's internet: lol you think so, do you?))
no subject
Speaking of dooming yourselves to repeat history...hm, effective policing requires at least a neutral relationship with citizens, does it not? Public relations are key!
[ He's trying not to push too hard, but if he must...he'll fight. Oh boy. ]
Wonderland
[ Sala's just happy that there's warm clothing that her long, pink tail can slip out of, that accommodates the wings shrunken and hidden beneath them. Who even designed it? No one appears to have known that any of her people were specifically coming, and yet this clothing is all perfectly suited to her. How mysterious! ]
It's exciting though. I've seen very little snow in my life.
no subject
Exciting? I didn't think of it that way.
[Connor's mostly only seen winter. His activation time was a single day in summer and then November in Detroit. And then there was the rose garden... Only ever in his mind, but it couldn't have felt more real.]
There's something for me about snow and...gardens. It's a... A Thing.
[Connor has A Thing. That's almost exciting.]
It's OK, though. [He hurries to add that.] The snow's harmless.
Winter Wonderland
Since I've been aboard? Once before, yeah. It doesn't happen often, if that's what you're worried about.
no subject
[He's genuinely not sure. ]
That ever happen to you? You see something or--or feel something and you don't even think, you just...go?
[He's talking to an organic maybe-human person, right? This guy'll know about how emotions work. Connor's new to this deal.]
no subject
Yeah. That's pretty normal; happens to everyone now and then. Some people do it more than others though.
Party
"Thank you so much. It's rather crowded around the table. I appreciate the consideration.
party
She loves this. And she loves all the unfamiliar food that's been born from all that hard work. She's half-skipping back to the food table for a third time when she gets intercepted with a sausage roll and a drink.
Elle blinks a couple of times. She doesn't know this guy, but [Perception 8] he definitely isn't one of the natives. A second later, her surprise melts into a warm and wide grin.] Hey, thanks! Have you tried this yet? It looks good.
