The Waking of Neran: OOC Information
THE EVENT
OSIGA AND THE IRUE GROTTO
THE WAKING OF NERAN

ANAN AND THE MINISTRY
OTHER NOTES
With Anan's transmission verified, it is on Orchestra 22 that the Voidtrecker Express announces their incoming arrival into system #78961112094711. Voidtreckers will be able to witness from the windows as the kaleidoscope colours of the void disappear to a full-on star system, planets and stars a treat before they finally come to the planet of Osiga.
This event lasts through Orchestra 22-25 (11th to 16th of December), and will have NPCs present for those interested in the plot side of things. There is also a form for characters to fill in if they decide to, though this won't be available until the event goes up. Read on for more details.
OSIGA AND THE IRUE GROTTO
๐ PLANET. system #78961112094711 is a large galaxy with well established inter stellar travel. The specific planet that the voidtreckers are visiting is called Osiga. Osiga is a planet that is built on strong community bonds, a necessity due to the month of darkness each year that brings a deathly cold. There are no countries, but smaller clusters of people overseen by small elected boards who make sure resources are shared fairly. It has a high level of technology and holds one of the largest void hubs in the system. Travelling off planet is very common, cultures are very mixed whilst keeping a strong cultural idea of 'home' (which can be more than one planet) and they extended the same attitude to void travel- tourists and visitors are very welcome and no one is going to look strange or worrying to the people here.

๐๏ธ LOCATION. The void hub is in the Irue Grotto, a rocky city half-domed by a hood of stone to mimic the grotto dwellings Osigians used to live in, while also allowing view of the night sky. This is the main tourist section of Osiga, and Voidtreckers arrive where an elevated 'stalk' of stations where leave their crafts for a more traditional stay.
There are several large museums for art and the history of Orsiga, beautiful stone gardens, and restaurants more centred around for a true Osiga experience. The outside world can still be viewed where the roof of stone doesn't cover, and people are able to enjoy how Osiga's equivalent of 'snow' makes an otherwise dark and stony landscape glow brilliantly.
There are various hotels, and the voidtreckers have rooms in a hotel that allows a view of the glowing blue mountains in the distance. People share rooms with their train cabinmates, which have four single beds (though larger than the ones on the train!) or one double bed (for the double cabin sleepers).
The architecture mimics a stone city inside a mountain, similar to this, but with stone stairways and wider for better movement, and the buildings not as square but more rounded. Busy but spacious, and the exterior of buildings appear similar to one another. Stone archways help people to move on different levels. Small man-made streams run through everywhere to spread out water.
๐จ๏ธ WEATHER. It is obviously dark until sunrise of the final day. The weather is good if chilly, with skies filled with both stars, but also the twinkling of falling blue glowing ice. It never reaches the ground in the main parts of the city, but there are sections where it does. โ๏ธ 'SNOW'. While similar to snow, the blue-ice doesn't leave a fluffy substance when it falls but instead reacts to each other, creating frosty patterns that rise up to meet more falling particles. Any that fall on your person or clothing will spread out like a thin spider's web. They have a weak glow, but the more they gather, the harder and brighter they stand out.
This blue ice is called 'sads' (sors) in old Osigian languages. 'Where it falls, sadness will be'. They create valleys of ice when left alone, deadly to approach from the temperature that radiates. It was more this ice that spelled disaster for Osiga's past than the month-long darkness.'
Despite its place in Osiga's history, the effect is considered beautiful. There are sors parks where people are safe to walk amongst them, and can throw around a type of mineral similar to salt that will disperse the sors where it hits, creating a light show before the sors evaporate completely.
๐ข FOOD. The food of Osiga is famous for being spicy, yet sweet at the same time. It's a strong taste and might take some time to get used to. No worries though; in the tourist area they have plenty of other food too, from all over their galaxy.
A popular ingredient is 'nosom', which is basically blubber. It is fried, marinated, dried, and even made into types of creamy dessert. It is very chewy and fattening. Osigian cuisine uses every bit of animal and plant, so don't expect fillets to mean boneless (or organless) here.
Vegetarian/vegan options are available, but not traditional to Osiga itself.
๐งค BEFORE LEAVING. The luggage carriage will be open with hats, scarves and warmer coats. There will also be baskets and bags suited for carrying food, in case any voidtreckers want to make food to share at the festival.
Their SCA's will allow them to buy food and small gifts through a credit system.
THE WAKING OF NERAN

For the final month of every year, the system's sun - the aforementioned Neran - is hidden, blanketing the world in darkness and cold. Bringing strife and misery to a rather tragic history of the planet, perseverance through community and working together led to prosperity to the civilians of the world, and now makes the occasion for when the sun returns a time of celebration. Families with links to Osiga often return for the whole month, to remember those they have lost and celebrate the return of the sun. The final three days is a popular festival, with people from all over the galaxy travelling to celebrate.
The festival is just starting its first when they arrive and there is plenty of street food, pop up shows and corner street story tellers. Children run around in golden masks.
The story tells of Neran, a goddess of light who drowned in darkness. For a month she was lost, trapped in chains of shadow, unable to shine. Osiga suffered and the cries of the people reached her. For a month she was trapped, hearing the tears of her people and gathering her strength until finally she rose up and did battle with the darkness. A raging battle that lasted three days before she rose victorious.
With space travel and void travel it is clear no one believes this story, not even as a religious base, but they tell it regardless. With great theatrics!
On the first day there is a huge light parade that is dedicated to any of those who died in the last year. Though a remembrance parade, it is upbeat and joyous, celebrating the lives that once were. Long candles are sold and the lights on the main parade route are turned off to add to the atmosphere.
On the second night there is a huge firework display in the open sky side of Irue Grotto, to encourage Neran in her fight against the darkness. It is considered a night to be brave. Decide on that new opportunity, ask out your crush, decide on a new adventure! Tonight is the night for it!
The final night it is customary to party on through til morning. There is traditional dancing, loud and energetic and done in unity, to celebrate Neran's last struggle. This being the tourist section there are plenty of guides ready to teach and lead the crowds. A few hours before sunrise, those who feel able to can hike up onto the cliffs overlooking the city to watch light come back to the world.
ANAN AND THE MINISTRY
Though Anan has invited them to her system because she wants to share the festival with them she has an additional reason for bringing them here. The committee concerning the Voidtrecker Express is due to sit soon and there is a ministry representative who is available to talk, answer questions and take statements from any voidtreckers who wish to give them. Anan will make it clear that if they don't want to go near the ministry they don't have to.
There will be an NPC to talk to and a form that can be filled out for those who want to give a statement but don't want to thread out with the NPC. Anan and her crew will also be around for NPC threads either about the ministry or for festival shenanigans.
OTHER NOTES
- Characters will want to keep on their SCAs, as it's helping to keep at bay the cold. Without it breathing will be uncomfortable, they will feel off, but it will be manageable as long as they stay inside the grotto itself.
- People can leave the grotto as they like, and they can even fly. Just be careful of the cold, especially the higher up you go - sors/the blue ice will cover over you. Having company close will strengthen your SCAs, which keeps you warmer (cuddling recommended).
- A shopping list will be available later, for ideas of trinkets.

Questions?

If anything in its modern day incarnation the festival is about balance- that balance being disturbed and then made right again. After a month of darkness you need light.
only the most serious of questions here
for the FF cats to lounge on for warmth? Can Mort get a cute, tiny hat and scarf from the dressing carriage?
Re: only the most serious of questions here
Mort can have a tiny hat yes
Re: Questions?
(I say when the post goes up because I expect the full prose context will affect things so)
Re: Questions?
I would say only one npc thread per character with the ministry npc for sake of not drowning mods though. (Though you could fill the form out as an extra that's fine)

What night would be best for the Ravager memorial thing? (He'd probably ask Anan about it).
Will there be booze available?
no subject
Memorial wise she would suggest the first since that is a night of remembrance anyways but she would be open to any
There will. I actually had the thought today at work that I had forgot the existence of alcohol when writing the food stuff. So there will be some drinks available too.

EDIT: I asked this when I was very sleepy. I was actually wondering what kinds of animals could we generally assume as being around (I assume tourists might have pets and things too, just looking for generalizations.)

The blubber comes from sea animals some distance from Irue, since Iru is near cliffs. it would be traded and shared around the different communities in the old days. If they ask around they will be told the creatures mostly swim in the deep waters but it is rare to see them this close to the city- boat rides go out but not during Neran's sleep- it's too dangerous and the water far too cold.

Thank you!

2) Unlikely, since the setting is meant to be traditional. There is the station they will arrive in that has more tech, but more in line with what you would find in an airport shop - so sleep aids, fancy suitcases, different types of chargers and batteries, etc.
I'm not sure if this counts as being interesting.
3) Yes, but not as quickly. So it won't last in Idia's hair, but it would still make his face wet at times, stick to his clothes. He could also get a rare falling clump if you want him to get bonked on the head.
(The stuff doesn't usually cling and react to each other until it finds a surface, but sometimes, oddities occur.)

(Read: is this an opportunity for him to fully realize what his powers are and stop being worried that he might accidentally kill someone)

Edited because I reread the answer for comprehension this time: confirming that Ten-Nank is powerful but not divine? Because "actually is a god/sacred being" is what causes his Sense to fold in on itself, and that's not something he'd really be able to ignore.
