Test Drive 030
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Immersive Fiction
Both the cinema and library are good places to relax and get immersed in yet a different world, wide open spaces to distract from the cramped living quarters of the train.
However something is going on it seems, these worlds may be more immersive than anyone planned. It might be a film or a book but passengers may find themselves inside the story. They might take the roles of the characters in the story or remain themselves and have to navigate a strange world. They might drift from story to story or find themselves stuck in one story and have to see it out until the end.
Friendly Competition
The lower floor of this carriage is open and sprawling, with two wide, low tables and plenty of cushions and beanbags. The walls are lined with shelves and wooden chests, both filled with games. Board games, card games, you name it, though train themes feature heavily. On a shelf of its own sits a case of Duel Monsters cards.
The upper floor is split into two. One half has a pile of oversized games - lawn jenga, twister, giant connect4 - and the other, sectioned off with soft rope barriers, hosts a screen, a console, and a variety of video game controllers, including four VR headsets.
Perhaps you’re testing yourself in one of the VR Crisis simulators. Perhaps you’re learning the rules of a competitive card game a little too well, and your friendships are suffering accordingly. Perhaps you’ve convinced someone to play twister with you..?
Meltdown
Jia is a snowy mountainous planet, sparsely populated and freezing year round. People live in tight knit communities eeking a living out of ice fishing. The planet is also home to the Crui, small blue furry creatures that live among the ice.
The planet has been under attack from a fleet of alien ships intent on destroying the natural ice seas to gain access to precious gems that lie buried underneath and hunting the Crui. The people of the planet have mounted a defence but there are not many of them and they have called for help.Team One
The Crui are not fierce creatures and their instincts when hunted are to bury themselves in snow and wait for the danger to pass, this is ineffective against these new hunters. The people of the planet are trying to round as many up to move to a safe defend-able position. The Crui are timid but can be coaxed out with fish and hopefully led to safety. Gentleness is key, they spook easily.Team Two
Work is underway to make a defensive area to protect the Crea and those who need it. It's a tough job, there are not many natural building resources on the planet and ice structures are less that useful against the invaders' machines. Help the people come up with a plan to keep everyone safe.Team Three
The main issue with the invaders is their technology. They have mining equipment that can melt through huge chunks ice, causing untold damage to the world. The people here are pacifists and have asked that voidtreckers avoid killing the invaders if they can. Which means sabotage is the aim of the operation.
T'Challa | What If...?
Taking his time to explore each car of the train, T'Challa eventually finds himself in the games carriage. And while most of the games aren't of particular interest to him, he comes across the sectioned off area, watching as some of the other passengers play the VR games.
Eventually he takes a turn, and settles on the crisis simulator, just because it looked intriguing. Picking up a few of the spare headsets, he turns to the closest person and offers them one.
"It seems this game requires more than one player. Care to try it out?"
Team Three
Though the current time and place might not call for such pacifism, T'Challa can understand and appreciate the Crui's desire for little harm as possible, and doesn't mind honoring their wishes. It does make things a little more challenging, but nothing he hasn't managed before.
Infiltrating the invaders' mining camps and sabotaging their equipment isn't terribly difficult. But once the invaders discover their presence, it does get a bit trickier to make an escape.
"It seems that we won't be able to completely avoid a fight, after all," he says as the alien assailants draw closer to their position, not that he really expected to.
Team Three
"If you can keep 'em busy I can wreck their equipment up real thorough." Yondu understands machinery pretty well, enough to permanently mess with it. Plus he's acquired a few tricks since being on the train. What he can't damage with an arrow, he might be able to thoroughly overgrow if given enough space and time.
"How's that for a plan?"
no subject
When the invaders are on them, T'Challa rushes forward first, throwing a few wide swings at the closest ones. He fights a bit more brazenly than he normally would, but he needs to keep their attention on him in order to let Yondu slip away.
no subject
There's no plants that he can use readily, not with all the cold and the ice. But there has to be some somewhere, right? Somethin' for the animals to eat? Something at the bottom of the food chain?
He'll worry about that later. For now he starts to climb the machine, but he has to swing out of the way of a blaster fire with a shout, nearly falling off.
no subject
He manages to wrestle some weapons away from one of the invaders and starts shooting, making sure to aim for buildings nearby, mostly to create obstacles for them than aim at them directly, while ducking behind objects to avoid getting hit himself.
no subject
He slips into the seat to the small cabin of the much larger machine and taps his SCA.
"This is gonna take a hot minute. If they keep firin' at the equipment it might blow. I ruptured the energy tank. It might be a situation where I can come back but I don't wanna get in the practice of dyin'." Once was enough, thank you.
"Wait til I get done here, and then get 'em to shoot it."
no subject
"All right. I'm sure I can draw their fire, but I'd rather not be a target for too long."
While he'd heard that it was possible to come back from dying as a Voidtrecker passenger, he also did not want to get into the habit of it.
no subject
He'd finish this machine in one piece or take it with him. Either way, they've won as it is.

As he fires a few more stray shots, he catches sight of scaffolding before having to duck back down to avoid the invaders' fire. Thinking for a moment, he then removes his necklace, the claw pieces easily slipping between his fingers. Counting down a few beats, he springs out of his hiding place and towards the scaffolding, using the claws to cut through the structure as he runs by. It collapses easily, sending pieces and smaller equipment spilling on the closest enemies.
The rest continue firing after T'Challa, as he runs in the opposite direction where he knows Yondu is, drawing the shots away from the machinery that the other is working at.
no subject
Says a lot about their personalities, he thinks. But he doesn't have too long to think about it, 'cause now, he's tearing out some specific wires that'll eventually cause some plugs in the machine to spark once it's run for another couple of minutes. And with the ruptured energy tank? That should make it blow in a more timely I will not be blown up as well manner.
He is noticing quite a few pings worth of shots outside.
"Feckin' in, ya dunn otay?" That is Yondu over the SCA holding a tool in his mouth as he's doing his damage.
no subject
He jumps behind a nearby vehicle, wincing a little as a close shot flies by his head. "Just fine," he manages, firing a few quick shots of his own before ducking back down. "How's it coming on your end?"
no subject
There's a sputtering sound as he spits out what's in his mouth, catches it smoothly. "Got it."
And from there he's hopping down from the big machine, sprinting to get away from it. "Do your worst!"

"...huh, guess I could. Haven't played before, so you're probably gonna crush me."
no subject
"The objective is to navigate through a crisis based on the setting we choose." He gestures to the screen. "I'm more partial to the bridge of a space ship, but is there one that you'd prefer?"
no subject
Just a hint. "Anyway, guess that makes me Ensign Jake or whatever. What should I call you, cap?"
no subject
"A pleasure to meet you, Jake. I am T'Challa."

She blinks at the headset, then the guy holding it out to her. After a second, she shrugs. "Sure. I haven't gotten around to trying that one yet."
