Wings of Wonder: About Powers
As there's been questions about magic, abilities (passive and not), and also about magical beings, I want to gather the questions and answers into one place.
Magic, Energy
Magical Beings
Passive Abilities, Debuffs, Influence, etc
Teleportation, Flight, Manifesting
Reading the Energy
Magic, Energy
- To reiterate: Magic and energy - any type - will be dampened to very low levels of use on this mission. Any type of energy or magic that physically comes out and takes shape will suffer backfire the more that's generated. So the larger the amount of power in it, the more likely it's going to explode, shoot off in different directions, blast you in the face, etc.
So, at most, your characters can use magic at a level one, early game type spells with better success. The power behind this still counts. So, saiyans would have to do very baby chi/ki blasts*, powerful magicians would still need to keep their water spells down in power.
Distance/range will also weaken any spells or magic. As such, healing or magical treatment is better close to another person. Buffing another Voidtrecker's abilities will work. Attacking someone up close is better. Having some amount of energy within your kicks/fists will be fine. Weapons are trickier.
Note: Trying to do a higher-levelled powered spell up close will likely explode it in both of your faces.
Any type of weaponry - laser rifles, magical swords, etc - will suffer issues too. Weapons that buff your character will still do their job.
Natural body strength, or buffing of one's body, as long as energy does not surround the body and make their energy/power levels** noticebly stronger, is fine.
( */**sorry saiyans. )
Magical Beings
- Anyone compromised of magic, without a meat body, etc, will experience some discomfort/not feeling right. Take it as being at around 90% instead of 100%. Their SCAs keep them safe. They may experience fatigue quicker than other types of bodies, but it's not a rapid degeneration.
This is due to the world being disagreeable to energy types not its own. But, again, the SCAs work hard to keep you safe. /sca proproganda
Passive Abilities, Debuffs, Influence, etc
- Anything that attempts to influence their surroundings or other life forms - except the Voidtreckers - will not work. Nullifying, curses, confusion, any type of status effect from a Voidtrecker will not work. Attempting to insta-fix things will not work.
Duplication can only work if it's small, and with extra energy put into it.
However, if you can drain energy/life etc in some form, and cannot control/stop it, your character will start to become unwell. There will be a fix for this, and we can help plot with you.
Passively taking in light from the sun and sound - unless these are magically enchanted in some way by natives of the planet - however, will be fine.
Teleportation, Flight, Manifesting
- Flight done so via energy/magic is fine at a low level. This is to mean, the power put into it. Going too fast or putting too much energy into it will start to make them wobble, lose control, etc. They will need to go slowly and carefully. How high they go doesn't matter.
Teleportation will work, but is better done at short distances, and the characters will have to know where they want to travel to. So they have to have visited the location already. They can take people, but at most, one or two at a time. It will also tire them out. Transgate use should be limited, with 1-2 people at a time and using it in its smaller state, or wait until a way to use them safely is found.
Manifesting/duplicating items will work on a small scale. Hammerspaces will still work, except for anything too large/bulky. Transgates are around the limit.
Reading the Energy
- For those who will have some ability to read energies, feel them out, etc., it will be difficult. Despite them usually being able to work with energies on different worlds, it's as if this is completely untranslatable. There are similarities, but, for the comparison I've been using, it's still a completely different language.
If you were to test this while manifesting a spell, you would be able to see there's a resistance to the spell. It doesn't matter where they are, doesn't seem to have anything to do with the red storm/shroud -- it seems to have something to do with the world itself.
You can take the time to try and understand it, but it's very stubborn. There won't be enough time to learn it. However, usually there are Forever Ones around (the statues of people around on some of the islands), and they seem better capable of making a connection/working with the Voidtreckers.
If one is able to usually read energies on a larger scale, and take the time to spread out their focus (or, what you believe is reasonable for them to be able to figure out with time), the world below the islands - the red swirling mass - is confirmed with the energies to be chaotic. They can't reach far down there in any sense of the word. They will get a sense that this world isn't right. They may be able to sense the world is old. But even so, the upper islands show perseverance of life regardless.
Note: These are all feeling, senses, etc, and done so with expertise and time (days). Scanning abilities - magical or mechanical - here even have trouble properly reading the equivalent of water on this planet.
