Test Drive Meme 025

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Crisis on... A beach

The train has a game carriage and the VR video games are always popular. A good way to relive boredom as well as teaching some good skills.

Crisis on...This game can be played with two to four players. It is essentially a crisis simulator mixed with an escape room. You can chose the scenario (the bridge of a space ship, a camp in a jungle, a high rise building, a sailing ship etc) and you are thrown into the middle of a crisis of some kind. Teamwork and a cool head are important as is using the surroundings wisely.

Just another day at the beach. Until it isn't. Lost children, stranded surfers and sea life attacks. Help direct life guards, reunite families and clear the dangerous parts of the beach all while working together.

Hygroscaping

The garden carriage is usually a serene space, pebbled stretches and paved paths leading in meandering paths around a central fountain, glass arching overhead. Usually. Today, the fountain and its artfully-sculpted streams have been the target of some passenger project or another. Water has been gushing out since the morning alarm. Within an hour, the carriage is flooded.

Oh, there have been some attempts at fixing it over the day. Eventually gunk blocks most of the pipes; barriers keep the water away from the doors on either end of the room; even the few plants in the carriage are surrounded by bubbles of air or sealed tubs... But unavoidably, the garden carriage is now a glorified fish tank. All it needs is some aquatic inhabitants.

A Lost Heir

The world of Bire was once a paradise of innovation and invention; the three Bastions worked together to build a perfect society atop machinery and military might. Then the Second Bastion fell. As the Voidtrecker Express arrives on Bire, the First and Third Bastions have long blamed each other, caught in a cold war with the ferocity of two starving wolves standing over a carcass. The Second Bastion is a wasteland, spotted by mercenary companies and refugee settlements.

Amidst all this, the Second's heir rises, but they need your help.
Team One

The heir of the Second Bastion is the only being with the genetic signature needed to open the great vaults of the territory, and without the contents of those vaults, their people stand no chance of recovering. Seed banks, rare materials, wealth... and the loyal armies bred in the Second Bastion's deep gene wells, slumbering for centuries. The team are tasked with first finding the heir amongst the refugees, and then guiding them into the first of the vaults.

Team Two

The spiked, bloodied airships of the mercenaries roam the wastes, hunting for prey. Once the proud regiments of the Second Bastion, they were driven mad by the great catastrophe that marked the fall of their territory and now slaughter their own people in an undying rage. No cure for the rage is known - the only solution if an airship reaches you is to fight for your life. This team's focus is to protect the other teams and the refugees both from the marauders. The First Bastion has donated some skirmish ships to the cause, though they aren't in the best repair...

Team Three

If the Second Bastion is to recover - and for the good of Bire, it must - then her sister Bastions must put aside their animosity. It won't be easy. The cause for the catastrophe is unknown... supposedly. This team is split into two groups, one sent to each Bastion, and their role is to gather information. And, with or without that information, to broker peace between the Bastions. The First is a sweeping territory of white curves and natural groves, with a love of music and singing. Their holographic software is unrivalled. The Third is a sturdy place of towering buildings and flooded streets. Most of the territory is underwater, but that doesn't stop the grind of industry.

"We are." He chuckles a bit. "I still do not know how some of the things here work, only that I have been told I cannot take them apart to see."

Apparently people need the refrigerator to work, or something.

"Becoming something of a tinkerer, are you?" His smile relaxes, more honestly humored this time. He's not surprised that this man's mind can't rest when given a puzzle.

"Perhaps... instead of taking apart what still works, find something broken to open up and analyze, I am sure few people will be remiss about that."

"If it's the only way to learn about how something works, then ja. Though that does mean I have to wait for someone to break something."

Then again, with the people here... that won't take all that long.
essek: (Unsure)

"I doubt your wait will be long," his words are an amused huff, unintentionally putting life to Caleb's thoughts. He drinks some of the tea before capping the thermos again and handing it to the other man with a muttered thanks. His hands now free, he takes the towel again to rub at his hair, doing a couple simple gestures to prestidigitation away the water that soaks his clothing.

"Do you think they'll... leave it as is or attempt to recover the garden?" He looks back over to the flooded car.
katzenpfote: (gentle smile)

He puts it back in his bag, watching Essek. He never did bother learning prestidigitation. "I assume they'll try to recover it. Otherwise we're going to have trouble moving between cars. The whole place is a straight line..."

Sure, they have some portals now, but for the most part they're stuck with the one route.
essek: (Ever Smile)

With another hand gesture to cast prestidigitation, Essek's clothes are fully dry again. Why did he stay wet when he could have dried himself so easily? He's not going to contemplate it.

There's a joke, a quip on his tongue, but then he looks at Caleb and... it dies there, remembering the difference that lies in their levels of familiarity. Instead he nods, "I suppose most people would be unwilling to swim across it everyday."

He's aware of the lack o heterosexuality on this train, yes. "Myself included - I can swim, but I also like having dry clothes..."
essek: (Amused)

He remembers then, Caleb coming up from the water, drenched... That was just before he turned into a sheep though, a memory that makes him turn to hide a smile in the other man's towel. "Yes, I suppose being dry is preferable."
katzenpfote: (taunting)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2021-06-23 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly no, he just is opposed to the idea of being drenched while wearing his clothes. No sheepleb memories here.

"You know, I imagine being able to float is very useful when it rains in Rosohna. No need for dealing with mud on your shoes."
essek: (Explaining)

[personal profile] essek 2021-06-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What a shame, he made such a cute sheep.

"It was, in fact I am able to manipulate my gravitational field enough to repel rain from my person entirely," he gives Caleb a playfully confident smile.
katzenpfote: (embarrassed)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2021-06-24 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course you did." And he's sure everyone was incredibly impressed - he is, but he's trying to not let that show.

"... While we are waiting, do you want to get something to eat?"
essek: (Unsure)

[personal profile] essek 2021-06-24 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay to be impressed by him Caleb, he takes a great deal of satisfaction from it even if it's less important than it once was to him.

"Ah, yes," Essek with practiced ease fixes his hair by running his hand through it. He'd forgotten about it, having grown a touch accustomed to the Nein seeing him in various disheveled states. Even if this Caleb hasn't experienced that... sometimes it's hard to separate. "That'd be agreeable."
