Test Drive Meme 023

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Dio's Legacy

In an alternate almost exactly like the one inhabited by the Voidtrecker Express, fate went another direction. Instead of the first addition to the train's structure being the games carriage, this train's passengers voted differently.

What makes them happy?

Crocodiles.

The Crocodile carriage isn't a misnomer. It's teeming with reptiles of various sizes, basking under sunlamps or floating lazily in the raised tank built across half of the available space. To be even better for morale, they're all perfectly tame, and unnervingly friendly; it's rare that a passenger is able to cross the carriage without being accosted by some crocodile or gharial looking for attention.

Harvest Void

The greenhouse is a surprisingly bright room, its vaulted ceiling made of a transparent, incredibly tough material that shows the light of the Void along the entire length of the room. The single metal support beam is bedecked in roses. The aisle of grass running through the centre of the carriage is riotous with strange plants and flowers, small stone paths leading off to this patch or that of vegetables or closely clustered fruit trees.

And all of them are laden with produce. Whether a stray spell or a particularly good mood from one of the resident forces of nature, every plant in the carriage has matured at once. Shrubs overflow with berries, rows of stalks groan under beans and tomatoes, apples threaten to fall from overhead branches at any moment.

You may not normally be a gardener, but today it's all hands on deck!

Cold Iron, Warm Hearts

The duchy of Yipre is one of several close-knit factions on one continent, known for both her expansive clockworks and strong links to the Fey. Central to the capital is the Clocktower, the palace home to both the Duchess Stomen and her court of scholars, diplomats and engineers. Home also to a key point in the Ley, where the mundane world and the Fey intersect just enough that one may cross from one to the other.

But the Clocktower is sundered, entire sections of iron and brass sheared away in a great earthquake, and neither world is faring well in the aftermath.

Team One

The gear sprites of the Clocktower are missing, running amok in the streets and squares of the duchy. They're tiny things, fluff, metal filings and dust made quicksilver-fast, with small, glowing eyes and bell-like voices. While normally they keep the machinery of their home running, they aren't nearly as talented with anything else, and are causing general chaos with all devices and machinery they run across. Find them, and herd them back to the Tower. Maybe get them out of the typewriter first.

Team Two

The gateway to the Fey realm is torn, and dreaming magic is spilling out from the Clocktower. Finding the Voidtreckers' minds fertile grounds for its taking, imagined creatures and realms are conjured forth from all kinds of worlds and all kinds of lives. There are many ways to combat these - play them through until the magic is satisfied, for example, or find the Voidtrecker whose mind is the source, and stop them dreaming. It's up to the Voidtreckers on this team to decide.

Team Three

The Clocktower isn't quite in ruins, but large sections are crumpled like tin foil. In other places, steam and magic spill out into the air in a chaotic mix, burning and twisting the air into glittering leaves or long ropes of thorn. And through this, those that called the palace home fight to free themselves from the wreckage. Courtiers, servants, engineers… and, somewhere, the Duchess herself. Help who you can, but find her.

Luke has a little idea that the train's food supply tend to run thin, especially after missions, but he wants to chip in, along with doing the chores to help out.

"Ah okay, that's what I thought. I want to help."

He noticed that since people from different worlds have different powers, so he has to pick and pluck manually by hand to put the fruits into the basket.

"So, I know it's only a few days, but how the train does it? Pulling people from different worlds? You come from a different world too?"

It doesn't run thin enough to starve anyone, really, you just have to get used to making things from scratch and crunching your way through potentially raw vegetables towards platform day. (And, in Luke's case, maybe try being less of a picky eater.)

"Different from anyone else here, yeah." From over by the baskets, the figure is better visible - a smallish (by train standards) Asian man, scruffy and human-looking aside from the fact that he isn't using his mouth to talk. Instead, the voice from from a smartphone clipping to his belt. "There's a bunch of different variations of Earth, though."

Living a noble life, he was picky and learned to cook a little bit as the result, but he has eaten well. With the basket full, he works on picking whatever is left to put those in the baskets and for the vegetables to be sorted out later.

He begins to see him better as he works closely, and he listens, and when he figured his voice doesn't sound normal, it dawns upon him that he realized the voice is electronic, coming from a smartphone. He doesn't want to be rude and ask what happened and stay focus on the work and chatting.

"Variations of Earth? I never heard of it. It is your world?"
morganizedchaos: (now what's bothering you?)

"My planet, yeah." There's a subtle distinction, but it's not that important for casual conversation.

For a synthesized voice, it does tone more like a normal one. "I'd say maybe a third of us are from different kinds of Earths? Maybe more, I don't think anyone's done a poll. But all different time periods and slightly different versions of it."

Ghost reaches up without looking at Luke too directly, pulls an apple down, and tosses it in one hand before levitating it into the basket. "Usually contradictory apocalypses, from what I've talked to people about, so that's not great."

With a nod, "Yeah, I think I get it. I have to get used to the idea that Auldrant, that's my planet, isn't the only world in the universe."

He listens, and he just imagines what if there is an variant of Auldrant. That could be a possibly. "I think they should if they can keep a record of the data. Back home, I keep a journal so I wouldn't forget my experiences."

He's curious now, "Apocalypses? I guess not everyone's world turned out all right." After Eldrant collapsed and he released Lorelei, he's pretty sure if his world is saved, so not much worry there.

Either way, the crates is full of apples, so moving onto the next crop to collect and gather to save up for storage.

"There's a lot of note-takers around - plenty of us are science types - but I have no idea how much anyone's done research and record-keeping like that. Plenty of people don't want to talk about what they left at home."

And not just because of apocalypses, either. The fruit trees being done - for the two hours or so until the next crop of stuff is ready - Ghost is holding on to the vegetable patch. It looks like it's been mostly picked over, but there's always zucchini.

"There might be someone with that kind of thing, but it's probably out of date. I only arrived the stop before you."

Being a product of magi-science himself, a replica, that's something Luke kept to himself and don't talk about openly as he's pretty self-conscious being a clone himself.

"Mm. I saw there's a lot of science books in the library, so I'll have a look to read a little." And maybe he can keep up with the guy and what everyone else is talking about, he is interested with an open mind.

Better leave a few fruits on the trees. Luke doesn't like seeing the trees all bare. He thinks it's nice to leave a few.

"Okay." He just follows his lead into the vegetable patch to collect the vegetables there.

"Yeah, we do kind of show our biases that way." It's said with a bit of a laugh, a little self-deprecating - no one knows what scientists are like than someone who has been on both sides of the experiment, so to speak. "If there's anything you want to ask about, you can grab me or one of the other folks - I'm pretty sure we don't have anyone who'd be a shithead about it."

"Oh? I could ask? I...thanks." He hope he isn't a burden to ask questions when he has a few arise for the occasion. "Nothing comes to mind for now." He's a new guy who just got here and need more time to settle and get used to life on the train and counting on others and as well as helping things out. "So I have nothing to ask."

With most of the fruits and vegetables gathered, he looks around, "I think that's all of it. Where do we take the boxes and crates? To the storage car?"
morganizedchaos: (you got a better idea?)

[personal profile] morganizedchaos 2021-04-21 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, though you can probably just leave the apples sitting out in the dining car if you want. I think there's two more boxes packed up already, and some of the people around here could use the passive aggressive encouragement to eat some fruit." Really, train people only know ignore emotional problems, eat carbs, and lie.

Ghost plucks up one basket with telekinesis and another in his actual hands after he aligns the zucchini on top. "Thanks for the help, though. My roommate is one of the plant people, she woke up this morning feeling the gardens going wild and she's been running herself ragged trying to keep up with the plants throughout the train since then. I've been here all day."

"Okay, I think I got it and I can handle it from here." He's starting to get it, becoming part of the team and get organized.

With a short laugh, "I'll remind them to eat their vitamin C and fruits." Unfortunately, Luke has to put in more effort to hault the boxes manually by lifting, it's a form of exercise for his arms anyway, when it comes swordfighting and putting them away where they ought to be stored.

"It's no problem. I'll always help out."
