Test Drive Meme 023

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Dio's Legacy

In an alternate almost exactly like the one inhabited by the Voidtrecker Express, fate went another direction. Instead of the first addition to the train's structure being the games carriage, this train's passengers voted differently.

What makes them happy?

Crocodiles.

The Crocodile carriage isn't a misnomer. It's teeming with reptiles of various sizes, basking under sunlamps or floating lazily in the raised tank built across half of the available space. To be even better for morale, they're all perfectly tame, and unnervingly friendly; it's rare that a passenger is able to cross the carriage without being accosted by some crocodile or gharial looking for attention.

Harvest Void

The greenhouse is a surprisingly bright room, its vaulted ceiling made of a transparent, incredibly tough material that shows the light of the Void along the entire length of the room. The single metal support beam is bedecked in roses. The aisle of grass running through the centre of the carriage is riotous with strange plants and flowers, small stone paths leading off to this patch or that of vegetables or closely clustered fruit trees.

And all of them are laden with produce. Whether a stray spell or a particularly good mood from one of the resident forces of nature, every plant in the carriage has matured at once. Shrubs overflow with berries, rows of stalks groan under beans and tomatoes, apples threaten to fall from overhead branches at any moment.

You may not normally be a gardener, but today it's all hands on deck!

Cold Iron, Warm Hearts

The duchy of Yipre is one of several close-knit factions on one continent, known for both her expansive clockworks and strong links to the Fey. Central to the capital is the Clocktower, the palace home to both the Duchess Stomen and her court of scholars, diplomats and engineers. Home also to a key point in the Ley, where the mundane world and the Fey intersect just enough that one may cross from one to the other.

But the Clocktower is sundered, entire sections of iron and brass sheared away in a great earthquake, and neither world is faring well in the aftermath.

Team One

The gear sprites of the Clocktower are missing, running amok in the streets and squares of the duchy. They're tiny things, fluff, metal filings and dust made quicksilver-fast, with small, glowing eyes and bell-like voices. While normally they keep the machinery of their home running, they aren't nearly as talented with anything else, and are causing general chaos with all devices and machinery they run across. Find them, and herd them back to the Tower. Maybe get them out of the typewriter first.

Team Two

The gateway to the Fey realm is torn, and dreaming magic is spilling out from the Clocktower. Finding the Voidtreckers' minds fertile grounds for its taking, imagined creatures and realms are conjured forth from all kinds of worlds and all kinds of lives. There are many ways to combat these - play them through until the magic is satisfied, for example, or find the Voidtrecker whose mind is the source, and stop them dreaming. It's up to the Voidtreckers on this team to decide.

Team Three

The Clocktower isn't quite in ruins, but large sections are crumpled like tin foil. In other places, steam and magic spill out into the air in a chaotic mix, burning and twisting the air into glittering leaves or long ropes of thorn. And through this, those that called the palace home fight to free themselves from the wreckage. Courtiers, servants, engineers… and, somewhere, the Duchess herself. Help who you can, but find her.

Ayumi might not have skill with gardening per se, but she's always ready to land to a hand. Whether or not you want to help the tiny 6 to 7 years old child is another question, but given the Determined look in her eyes, do you really want to stop a child on a mission?

Especially one that's beaming hopefully your way, complete with a basket in hands. "We can do this, right?"

Cold Iron, Warm Hearts - team one
This is like harvesting the garden carriage, right? Well, sort of, only Conan and Haibara have told her this is like a reverse treasure hunt. Which is something she's super excited about. She'd be more excited if she could drag her friends on this, but she lost sight of them when they disembarked, so!! She will do her best to get all the Treasure back in the chest!

Assuming she doesn't find them right away, the nearest person will do. "Maybe if we make a really loud noise, we can frighten them out of the clocks here and herd them back to the tower."

It makes sense in her mind, and she's already looking around for something that can make a Really Loud Noise with.

Peter has opinions on the fact an actual seven year old girl as been dragged onto the train. Not just a seven year old girl-but an obviously very innocent-very not super powered or questionably train seven year old girl. Oh, so maybe just a seven year old is a pretty apt description.

Never mind that though, he's putting himself on body guard duty because anything that wants to attack or mess with this child is going to have to go through him and he likes to think he's pretty tough.

"I don't know, it's a good thought I guess, but making a loud noise doesn't really determine which direction they'll fly off in." Plus he's honestly not a fan of really loud noises himself so he'd rather avoid the pounding headache if possible. "Maybe a good ole fashion bribe would work? Food is always a pretty effective motivator."

[personal profile] amyumi 2021-04-17 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah... but what if the clocks are the food?" She hopes not! "We'd have to find something even tastier for them to eat."

And she's not exactly sure what would be better than a clock to the gear sprites. "What if we can't find anything like that?"

She'd suggest they just take the clocks back with them, but there's a lot of clocks and only two of them. And, she's not sure they'd stay in the clocks all the way back to the Clocktower.

Oh God this is the littlest one yet. What the hell, train?! He was about to hand off some fruit to someone and there's this li'l' squirt with a basket looking like she's ready to do the whole damn harvest all on her lonesome.

It takes him a solid beat to get over the shock.

"Right, yeah. You uh..." He looks up at the tree, and then back down to her. Then crouches. "You want I should pick ya up on my shoulders so you can get the higher ones up?" Since he has the higher fin on his head now, he just taps that. "You can hold onto that, it won't hurt me none."

Re: Harvest Void

[personal profile] amyumi 2021-04-17 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She absolutely would do this all by herself. But, it's much more fun with friends!

And Everyone is Friend-shaped. Until they do bad things like murder. But Yondu doesn't look bad. Just really Grumpy.

"Sure! But..." There's a Concerned look when he mentions the fin and hanging onto it. It's part of his head, like hair! How would it not hurt to hold to it??? "It really won't hurt if I hold onto it?"
yondu: (0 6 1)

Lost the notif!

[personal profile] yondu 2021-04-21 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Yondu is capable of murder if need be. So he can be bad. But right now, he's just feeling helpful. He often comes off to people as a lone wolf, but he was the captain of a crew. He was a member of a team. He was... maybe not the best father? But still a dad who tried hard. Even if he got things wrong.

He's still a team player and those only work if he helps people out.

She's a little old but she's small enough for him to handle it pretty easy. So he stoops down to help her up.

"Nope. It's fixed to my head so worst you can do is hurt my neck. But I'll trust ya not to yank my noggin' off."

The innocence and light in those eyes! The beam. Octopus's pronged tentacles clicked subliminally, like salad tongs in the hands of an absent cook.

"Indeed we can, Ayumi. If you can loosen the soil around the carrots with a trowel or a spade, then we can pull them up more easily. Do you like carrots?" Perhaps it was better to figure that out first.

Re: Harvest Void

[personal profile] amyumi 2021-04-17 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. You can do them in a lot of different ways; the best way is when you put them with honey beans, though I also like that on its own." There's a nod as she holds up the trowel. It's pink, because it had to match the only headband she currently has. "Do you like them too, Otto-san? And if we use your tentacles, this'll go twice as fast, right?"

Why have tentacles if not for carrot harvesting?
armsistice: (I was left to my own devices)

[personal profile] armsistice 2021-04-19 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never tried that recipe, but it sounds a worthy reward for so much hard work." Otto said sincerely, appreciating the fashion of headband-and-trowel, "I do, as a matter of fact." Carrots were about as sweet as earnest children, and Otto turned their attention to the task at hand(s), adding absently, "I designed them for much more dangerous work. Do you have any special talents that can help you?"

Was there a reason the train had selected the child? If accidents could happen to empower teenagers and adults, unfortunately they could happen to younger children, too, but Otto wanted to avoid putting across an obligation to use those powers, if possible.

Kanan was somewhat disturbed to find the child here. Granted, he'd been about her age when he'd started doing some dangerous things (under supervision) in the Temple... But STILL.

She didn't seem to be a youngling Jedi...

"I've heard crazier ideas." Best to keep an eye on her, by helping. He really has heard crazier ideas.

Not some much a youngling but a tiny detective in the making. Who'd absolutely love to hear about Jedi- she will declare it Space Kamen Yaiba... and or think you are the Best Thing Next to Yabia, Kanan.

"Really? Like what?" Even as she talks, she's looking around for anything that can be used to make a Big Noise.

[... oh no, child.

Kotoha is an adult woman, in her mid-twenties, and is watching Ayumi.

That is a child. She's making a note to have a word with this train.]

I'm sure we can. Why don't I lift you up to help you reach the fruit?

[Kotoha may be out of shape, but surely she can lift a small child, right?]

[Look, as far as she knows, she's on the world's best adventure and is a bit like a tiny Kamen Yaiba re: going to worlds and saving them!

But yes, please have a word with the train.]

Yeah! Otherwise, we have to climb up, and I don't think we can do that without making it fall...

[That's a lot of fruit on the trees.]

[She nods, kneeling down by Ayumi.

In a way, this is the most comfortable she's been in ages. She likes children. She's used to being around children. So this is actually rather nice for her.]

Are you ready?

Conan recognizes that determined expression, and rapidly considers the chances of deflecting that attention to Haibara.

Probably not worth whatever she'd do to make him pay for it later.

"Sure!" he says brightly. "Where do you want to start?"

"The beans and tomatoes!"

They are, objectively, the easiest things to reach. "But not around the trees... I don't think we can climb up without making the apples fall..."

Much to her dismay, because they really should do the apples first. There's a lot of them.
deductiongeek: (Default)

Re: Harvest Void

[personal profile] deductiongeek 2021-04-17 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Leave the apples for people more than three feet tall, Ayumi.

"There should be enough of those to keep us busy for a while."

And Conan would rather not deal with kids potentially falling out of trees. Surely they can make it through something this simple without any disaster but boredom.
amyumi: (ayumi1)

sorry not sorry.

[personal profile] amyumi 2021-04-23 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Why aren't they three-and-a-half feet? Then they could get the apples and make things safer for everyone before an apple murdered someone...

"Yeah. But..."

There's a set to her as she considers the garden and then there's a shy grin. For all she's mostly over her infatuation with and crush on Conan... he is Cool and knows a lot of things everyone else doesn't!

Time to Impress him with what she knows! And that includes this way to make things more exciting! "What if there's a hidden bean that'll take us to-" Think, Ayumi, Think!- "The library? But we can only find it if we stick to the um, every edge of the paths!"

There's a sage nod at the end. It's a good plan, right?

Three feet nothing. Shinichi would never stop resenting having lost half his height.

He gives her a bland look.

"Lets just stick to picking the harvest." And get it over with so he could get back to reading.

'Sharon' had come by to assist mainly to keep up appearances. With the others from her world suspicious, it was important to make sure she seemed trustworthy to the other passengers, lest someone try to spread news of her actions back home. Best to have folks on her side.

She recognizes Ayumi as the child approaches, both from her time pretending to be her school's nurse and seeing her around Conan. Luckily, she looks very different here.

"Of course we can. Would you like to help me pick berries?"

The joy of innocence is just don't do a murder or be a Bad Person and Ayumi will think you forever Trustworthy, 'Sharon'.

As it is, there's an enthusiastic nod, even as she eyes the garden with a determined set about her. "Do you think we can get them all in the basket?"

There's a lot of garden and only two baskets. "Or are the magic like the train is??"

Re: Harvest Void for maximum cute

[personal profile] secretmakesawoman 2021-09-29 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
But what level of Bad Person counts as bad? There are layers to being a Terrible Human being.

"If there's more than the basket can handle, we can always eat the rest. No one will mind." she says with a playful wink. Okay, they might, but it's not like the two of them are leaving none for the rest of the passengers.

While Sharon herself is more wary about the claims of magic on the train, she's good enough with kids not to bring it up. Instead she turns the basket in her hands, seeming to inspect it thoroughly before making a verdict.

"I'm afraid these appear to be run-of-the-mill baskets. But perhaps another passenger has a magical one."
