duel monsters tourney: details, final headcount

Alright, so! After a plotting-related delay, the Duel Monsters tournament will finally resume with an IC post tomorrow set in the sportsball gym, April 14th! I have this set up to be as easy and handwavable as possible. For those who are canon-unfamiliar...basically nerds play Magic: the Gathering with giant holographic fuzzy critters, elves, and dragons attacking each other.

Everyone is welcome to participate or spectate! A huge case of free for everyone cards is in the games room along with the rules. Every participant will receive a custom card of a pet, partner, myth, legend...whatever they want from their world. Bonus: if the character said what they wanted in advance, it's all set and the animations are already programmed! He's earmarked two of the eventual prize disks as demo units, and everyone will be dueling with them so they can all get a taste of power and flashiness instead of just flipping cards on a low table.

It's set up round robin style, so everyone's dueling everyone. No need to set up a bracket. Feel free to plot out specific matchups in this post...the five pre-chosen will beat Kaiba's special test and get the disks, but anyone can play for glory.

PersonaKen has been practicing... quite a lot. He's going to take advantage of the ability to swap cards out of his deck so each time someone faces him it'll be different. His deck leans towards 'summon a lot of small monsters and knock out enemy monsters before they can summon big ones', light-ish on magic, heavier on traps.

... However for DigiKen he's swapping in more traps that he hasn't used in duels with him before. They're friends, but in this tournament they're friendly shounen rivals. (ง •̀_•́)ง

Casper

Casper didn't really check in on things beforehand so he's mostly just wandering in. He doesn't really care about winning, he's just happy to play a kind of game he never got to growing up for lack of both cash and friends. He doesn't want a duel disk, he's just here for a fun time.

He will also instruct Bob to not be anywhere that it looks like he could be peeking on an opponent, because he plays fair and doesn't want to have people be like 'you're cheating via your bird'.

ken episode v: ken strikes back

Digiken is running Inzektors, because I'm card game trash and wanted him to have a specific archetype. He's side-decking (ie, swapping out from a set pool of useful cards) but the gist of the deck will remain the same. It's a surprisingly aggressive deck given Ken's not-in-a-battle demeanor.

He's a good strategist who enjoys friendly competition so he's going to be giving his all against everyone, but he will also be having a lot of fun. That said, he remains trollable, both by fakeouts on the board and Card Game Trash Talk.

.......Wormmon is in the bleachers, cheering. Wormmon knows nothing about Duel Monsters except that Ken-chan is using cards that look like Stingmon (and him! He is the custom card!). This makes Wormmon happy.

Wow, someone on the ZEXAL team really fucking loved Kamen Rider Kabuto huh.

(Which is funny because it is... not well-liked at least among the fans that I know.)

I mean they do, that's literally just Kamen Rider. Also beetle fighting is a legit thing in Japan.

Guilmon will join Wormmon in the stands to cheer Takato on. (He insists that the Guilmon card is cooler, though).

The coolest card is whichever card Ken-chan is using right now. Wormmon is firm upon this point.

Takato has no idea what is going on, because Guilmon signed him up for this, and forgot to tell him.

He will likely be late to his first match because of this. (Sorry to whoever that is!)

A couple of people have showed him the basics of the game, but he hasn't had a lot of practice. He does have a lot of experience with a somewhat similar trading card game, so hopefully he'll be able to tap into that a bit!

His deck likely leans hard on knights and dragons. (He has a theme, okay. And it made Guilmon happy.) He has a decent number of traps as well, because that's also somewhat familiar gameplay.
