A City Falls: OOC Info
The mission start is now live! The post can be for characters planning in the couple of hours before arrival and for the initial arrival on world. Team posts will go up on 15th September as catch all for the subsequent journeys/battles but feel free to start your own posts on the event board, just be sure to be clear what team mission your character is doing for ease of tagging!
The final challenges for Orange and Purple team will be posted on 21st September (day 11), final challenges for Red and Blue will be posted on 23rd September (day 12) and a final post focusing on reuniting and recovering will be posted on the 25th September (day 13).
Lay of the Land
Planet #25768 is a very marshy and wet one. Rain is a constant companion and even when it is not raining it is never quite dry. There is moisture in the air constantly. Ground is soft if not outright boggy and paths are treacherous. Slopes are liable to turn into mud slides under your feet and some routes seem more like a river than a track.
The passes through the mountains are flanked with dark rock, standing jagged to the sky. The hills themselves are covered in soft springy heather. Cloud is low and you don’t need to be high in the hills to be surrounded by mist. The goblins use this to their advantage, using their superior sight to ambush travellers.
The city is built against a cliff edge. There is one pass through the mountains leading north, with many paths leading off as the cliffs soften into hills. Another pass leads south and that is where the main force of goblins are coming from though there are many advance troops coming over the hills. There is a second route out of the city towards the east that involves a winding path up the cliff and over into the hills beyond.
West of the city there is a lake and it is in the middle of this lake that there is the wizard tower.
Creatures
Goblins Are short wirey creatures standing at about five foot tall. They are boney and pale, their hair is pure white, their eyes are blood red and their teeth are long fangs. They have claws on their hands and feet and can use them as effective weapons. They predominantly use short spears though many also fight with short swords, or cross bows. Their fighting style lacks finesse but they make up for it in ruthlessness and brute strength.
Flying Wolves Are the goblins mounts of choice. The wolves are just as blood thirsty as their goblin riders and their flight gives them the advantage in the boggy terrain. They tend to stay close to the ground even when flying, though they will use their flight to their advantage for example swooping down on people from cliffs. They attack best when they can hunt in a pack, surrounding pray and pinning it for their goblin rider to kill.
Wolves Regular wolves that roam the hills. Less bloodthirsty than the winged kind but still hungry and may attack if they think they can get away with it. Fire or weapons will drive them away.
Bears Likewise hungry bears can be found in the hills. They mostly keep to themselves but will attack if provoked.
For the most parts you are free to play your own monsters, though just let me know below if you want any mod input!
Routes
Their ICPs will bring up a map of the area and can be accessed at any time along with the mission information.
Purple They will be dropped off in the Northern mountain pass. If they defeat the initial ambush force they can continue north through the pass. As they get out of the initial steep edged corridor there are tracks off and over the hills if they prefer. Which ever route they take the going is tough and in places steep.
Initially the hills will be swarming with goblins. The goblins wield one handed spears and most carry wicked looking short swords, characters can loot them if they need weapons.
There are caves and ridges and other places to shelter for the night. Trees are plentiful though lighting a fire is tough in the damp. The children are used to such conditions though and they have a fire lighting set as well as rations that they will happily share with their rescuers.
There are a few different routes that take them to Um’i’les and the further north they get the less goblins there will be.
Orange
The city is not a large one. To any modern character it would barely class as a large town. The more sturdy homes are in the shadow of the cliffs, the ground gets boggier the closer to the lake it gets. Platforms are tethered together for ease of walking. The buildings are a mix of wood and stone. Along with people there are many animals, herds from the nearby hills brought into the city to keep it safe.
The town is fortified, a wall around it with two large gates and a series of smaller gates. The two main routes ut of the city are the passes to the North and South. The North is where the children have gone and is primed with goblins. The south is the direction of the main goblin hoard. There is however a third route, a steep path that winds up the cliff and over the hills. There are less goblins here, though there might be the odd few.
Red
The Southern pass is steep and rocky but evens out into a valley and it is there that the goblins are amassing. The fighters of the city have set up camp in a small network of caves and plan to storm the camp to keep the goblins busy until the wizards are ready. There are some horses for those that can ride and the citizens will lend spare weapons.
The slopes to the valley are steep but the horses are used to the terrain. There are a lot of goblins and fighting will be fierce and tiring, though both sides will need to rest so the fighting will not be continuous, a lot of falling back and regrouping.
Blue
In the middle of the lake there is a solitary rocky island and in the centre there is a tower stretching high into the sky. Most of the tower is stairs- a winding staircase through the centre. Eventually they will find chambers going off from the stair case, bedrooms for the most part. Nearer the top they will find a pantry, kitchen and a well maintained library as well as a small armoury.
The final staircase takes you out onto a flat roof. The roof has a wall surrounding it, at about chest height. It is here that the ritual is taking place.
NPCs
For the most part during the event you can write in citizens and people you meet into your threads yourselves. There is information below to help know what the people will be like.
However if you want a mod written NPC just fill in the quick form in the NPC heading below! You can request an NPC at any time during the mission!
Purple
The children for the most part are resilient and hardy. They are used to evacuating the city in the rainy months. However this is a bigger force than they have ever seen and they have never been attacked on the road before, usually the goblins focus on the city itself.
They will be grateful for the help in the ambush and will listen to reason if they are told they need to get to Um’i’les. The older ones carry weapons and will share, some will get defensive if characters try to take charge but won’t be too stubborn, survival is key!
They will tell them that the goblins come from the south and there’s been steadily more of them each year. They know of the wizard tower though they couldn’t say what happens there, it’s a mystery!
Blue
There are six wizards, three women and three men. They are silent, thoughtful types. They will seem a little surprised at the sudden help but will be grateful for the protection. They focus on the ritual though there is always one not not taking part, on a shift-type basis and instead helping defend or making sure everyone eats. For the most part though they will leave their strange new protectors to their own devices.
Red
The fighters will look a bit askance at new people turning up but once it is clear they are on the same side will happily have them fill out the ranks.
They know the wizards have a plan and they are aware they are helplessly outnumbered. Their job is to hold off the goblins and keep them busy as long as possible.
Their leader is called Lena and she is clearly very well respected by the fighters. Everyone is grimly determined and all hold hope that what they are doing will be enough for their families to be safe.
Orange
The people left in the city range from practical merchants who will be working quickly to evacuate to elderly people who will struggle with the cliff path. Farmers and herders will need help with their flocks. Ever tried to herd a chickens up a cliff? It’s tricky. All those people though are practical and hardy, will appreciate help and do their best to help others.
Worse are those that don’t want to go, don’t want to leave their homes, don’t trust those meddling wizards in that tower always giving orders. Who put them in charge? Patience and reason should win over all but the most stubborn- and when in doubt you can always drag them…
Clothing
As promised the dressing carriage has clothes for characters to blend in with the local populace. They may have to fight through the spiderwebs but the dressers and wardrobes are now unlocked and inside they will find many clothes. They aren’t perfect historical re-enactment clothes, more LARP or cosplay-esque costumes but it’s enough that they will pass as strange and foreign looking rather than otherworldly. Hopefully everyone will be so busy not being killed by goblins they won’t be looking too hard.
The cloaks are notable in that they look like standard fantasy-ish cloaks but it will become quickly apparent that they are completely waterproof, much like a modern jacket and they will keep them dry and warm.
Though the clothes do not adhere to voidtrecker colours they do have accents of team colours in muted, more natural hues. Some lacing here, a tassel there. There are an array of sizes, clothes aren’t individually labelled and characters can grab things in a variety of styles, go wild! Within each team they will find clothes to suit everyone- extra large for the likes of Dread and the elves, smaller for the children. There are a few simple leather bags as well for supplies.

I had one more question. Is the city currently on fire, or is that something that's going to happen later?
