Test Drive Meme 022
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Mix It Up
Normally, the morning announcement has you waking up in your designated bed, in your designated cabin, with your three designated roommates. This morning, something's wrong - you're waking up in a bed, in a cabin, with three roommates. But it isn't your bed, your cabin, or your roommates.
It looks like you've all been shuffled during the night. Pity no one's belongings got the memo, you don't recognise any of this stuff. At least you're in your own pyjamas.
Let Slip The Hot Dogs Of War
The carriage-length table and benches of the dining carriage are practical. Sturdy. Easy to clean. It's a good thing, too, because roughly thirty seconds ago, a handful of boiled vegetables went flying across the room and hit someone with a wet splat.
Twenty-nine seconds ago, war was declared.
One overturned bench and three pots of cabbage later, you've picked a side. Or a side has picked you, with a projectile sailing towards your face.
Follow Your Heart
The glittering, futuristic world of Tresques has long been protected by the Ciel Maidens, young women who wield their mighty empathic abilities to subdue and pilot gigantic mechanical monsters called Arc Frames. Now, with disaster on the horizon, their powers have vanished.
Team One
The primary foes of the Ciel Maidens are the Morne, hulking many-limbed shadows born from the nightmares and fears of the people of Tresques. Intangible, they roam the cities feeding on heightened emotions and stirring ill thoughts. Granted emergency Ciel badges and the use of the Arc Frames, team one are to combat the Morne wielding happiness, friendship and love as their weapons. Miniskirts are optional.Team Two
Camille, ace of the Ciel Maidens, has disappeared, after sealing the empathic powers of the entire order to avoid the loss of any more Maidens to tragedy such as that killed her partner and destroyed their Arc Frame. Team two, based in the order headquarters, are to find out as much as they can about the fate of her beloved, find Camille, and convince her to unseal the powers of the Ciel Maidens.Team Three
The Ciel Maidens have scattered to the far reaches of Tresques, seeking to restore their own powers and their confidence in themselves and each other. Some are so affected as to have birthed Morne of their own, the creatures possessing the Arc Frames and wreaking havoc. Team three are to search for the Maidens and bring them home.

Gleaned more than known directly, because Wei Wuxian had been helping out citizens, only fighting directly at the start and end of their encounter. Past the closing of the gateway and the giant arm striking the ground, he can't say he remembers much.
"Ah, but you should ask him yourself, I'm sure we can see him," he says, going up on tip toes as if he really needs much to see over the varied heights and heads on platform. Water gushes out suddenly from a section where a woman? Possibly a woman is being aggressive. Another area has a whole series of peg legged penguins doing some kind of performance he's almost interested in, but not enough to leave off where he is now.
He looks back to Lan Zhan. "Probably... we can find him later, too."
no subject
He glances around the platform as well, taking in all matter of strange occurrences. He wonders how much of that will be continuing inside and hopes there are some quieter places that will be more to his liking then the busy platform.
He looks back up at the train. Since he knows he has no choice but to enter it he wonders if it wouldn't be best to do so sooner rather then later when everyone is trying to get back on at once. "Should we go ahead inside?"
no subject
"You can, but I'm tired of being cooped up. I'll take the sunshine until the last, Lan Zhan, even if we did just come off a 'mission world,' do you know how much of the time there was underground?! Maah, then I slept through most the time after! I barely had time to see the sky!"
All the chaotic happenings of this platform aside, and he is firmly trying not to worry over them (more to a point, he sees others acting on them, and sticking his nose in additionally with all the oddities of those the train summons is not Necessary, he's far from the hardest hitter here at all) and letting himself instead appreciate this moment for what he can.
Yes, ignoring the fight with the water duelers. Really, what a way to use water over there. He might start watching for the sheer sake of it, but was that rude? It might be rude.
"You can always try to enjoy the sunshine too! Trust me, you're going to see enough of that train for the next two weeks. Why rush?"
no subject
"Then I will enjoy the sunshine with Wei Ying." Because if he is going to be cooped up on a train for awhile as seems to be the case, then he will also regret his choice to jump on early. This is the first real moment he could say that he has a chance to actually relax slightly. It's been a very stressful few weeks and with everything that happened before he came here, relaxing wasn't much of an option.
He fights the inclination to go assist with the water that is being wasted, casually glancing towards the broken area of the train and wondering it if wouldn't be wise to stop the flow. But it seems there are others that have also had that same idea and so he lets the little bit of tenseness that had built up start to ease from his shoulders.
"Are the arrivals always like this?" Rowdy.
no subject
He has no idea what that one person just did, but the damage to the water from the train appears to be fixed, and so he's still staring in considered confusion and curiosity, making no effort to disguise how he's watching now.
"Oh, not really. They're more sad than anything else," he says, like that makes sense out of context. "People try to fight the fog sometimes, or attack the train, usually they're not as, ah, successful? It gets more chaotic when everyone has to step out, but you find yourself on platform one way or another. These doors opening again means everything's restocked, that's about it."
The tug right now to board is low level, easy to ignore, but a presence to the sensitive regardless.

Lan wangji lets his eyes travel now that the chaos with the water seems settled for the most part. A sea of various colored hoodies and unfamiliar faces. Sometimes one that is familiar or vaguely so can be seen among the waves. Finally he simply turns his face upwards. If this is his last time seeing the sky for awhile, then he will enjoy it while he can.
"But sometimes there are reunions so they can't all be sad." Just as people leave the train, newcomers arrive at it. In some cases people will see ones they haven't been able to in awhile. Some of that must make up for the loss at times. Though he knows just how painful loss is and he would not wish that on anyone. He can only hope that perhaps the ones that lost those they care about, might be reunited with them again soon.
no subject
He doesn't want to linger on the sad things. It's not in his nature to, so he doesn't, despite his very greeting to Lan Zhan being one acknowledging the sadness. He doesn't mention, Wen Qing was here, and she's left. He doesn't mention that sometimes, losing someone twice hurts as much as having lost them at all.
He thinks that's a bit too on the nose, for another Lan Zhan, right now.
"What was happening back home for you, Lan Zhan?" He's chief cultivator, and that, for various reasons, worries Wei Wuxian about seeing him here. So far he has zero reason to believe they're all taken from the same place, and while this hurts his head thinking on it, it logically explains also why none of them are noticed as missing, and why several of them may coexist without it causing any issue. It's... not a perfect theory, but from what he's gleaned from the rest so far, it doesn't seem unlikely.

But the man appears fine and so he holds his place, trying to not over react. Eyes glancing down towards his neck almost out of reflex to see if that line of red was still there.
"We were just leaving Guanyin Temple." After a terrible night...that he is sure is going to have his brother spending time in solitary to get over it. Which makes being here that much harder. They all have experienced way too much loss in their lifetimes.
no subject
"That was months ago for me. You've been in Gusu Lan, tending to duties as Chief Cultivator." No mention of Zewu-Jun, or the seclusion he needed, or how he was in and out of functionality; nothing of Lan Qiren's new stone of carved rules rather flatteringly all about Wei Wuxian.
no subject
It seems their lives are never to be simple.
"It seems I have abandoned some important matters to be here." Which is worrisome in its own right, but hopefully his absence will not be too great a burden on his family.
no subject
It's not the justice that Lan Zhan, Lan Wangji, Hanguang-jun, believes in. One of leaving and ignoring the kinds of tasks he's taken on himself to complete? Nothing about the man he knows would indicate that, and he knows Lan Zhan knows that about himself.
The feeling of being taken here... "If it was a choice coming, I don't remember ever hearing of it. Besides, you didn't come. Not when I'm from. You've been there this whole time." Which brushes up against something else he suspects, and knows even less how to say. I don't think any of us are from the exact same place, necessarily. I don't know that any of us are so limited, that we aren't all missing, from our own versions of our worlds.
Maybe running into three of himself and two of Lan Zhan sets him up to such a belief, by now.
He looks up, fixing Lan Zhan with a serious look. "There's a good chance we each come from our own reflection of a similar place. Any word that you're gone, you know I'd come back. Zewu-jun... he'd look for you. So would that old man," he says, not dismissively, of Lan Qiren. "No one would stop looking for you, but the responsibilities of the Cultivation World would be handled by the rest who are in it. You abandoned nothing, and you have everything to get back to, right?"
no subject
He watches Wei Ying as he speaks, considers what he is saying about the differences in time passage for them. It's strange and he intends to find out as much as he can about everything. He needs to know if they really are from different places. But this is the Wei Ying he knows, he feels certain of it. It might not make any sense right now but he refuses to believe otherwise until there is proof.
He gives a small nod, agreeing with what he says about them searching for him and the world continuing on without him. He has much to return to but it seems that will not be happening in the very near future.
"Mn..." Confirmation of him trusting what Wei Ying is saying. He does have a lot to get back to and he will figure out how. "Since I left before all of that, then perhaps someone else will already be given the responsibilities." People would still hunt for him but hopefully they will not worry about it too much with everything else going on. But in a way...he also would be the one who would be out looking if he knew that Wei Ying was missing. He already did that once, many years ago. He wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
"I would look for Wei Ying as well." Which means if they are from different places, then he is sure there is another version of himself out there trying desperately to find the missing man.
no subject
"I know. How much we're able to say about the places we're from... I don't know, and the train doesn't speak up on it that I've heard so far. But I know both of us would look for each other, and at some point, we'll find each other. Even across realms."
He smiles, certain of it regardless of having no timeline. In ways, his is more unfair as a disappearance, sixteen years of dark mourning and grief carved into Lan Zhan's bones once before, and as of yet, he doesn't think he'll be missed. It's not even two months, he hadn't written ahead, he'd been wandering the world.
As long as Lil' Apple wasn't found alone... he swallowed, then returned to sunning himself, for all intents and purposes.
"In the meantime, we can also keep each other company like this."
no subject
If this is the Wei Ying of his world, or there is something far deeper going on, it seems neither of them can be sure. But for now he will take comfort in the fact that a Wei Ying is here. One that is familiar and doesn't have animal parts growing out of his body. He will make sure that this journey is like any other that they chose to go on together. They will walk side by side and Lan Zhan will never make the mistake of letting him go again.
"What do you do...inside?"
It's hard to think of Wei Ying trapped in one spot for months, unable to go outside for weeks at a time. He can't imagine what the man might have found inside to keep himself occupied with. But he does know that the other is also creative and good at figuring out ways to keep himself entertained.
no subject
"They have moving paintings, called films. Movies? There's different words people use, but it's a story told on a screen, that can be entertaining. Then there's the garden, one of the plants there bites and there are some potatoes growing there, along with other things. Chores... writing talismans... using the bathing springs... they have an area for exercise, called a Gym? Been there a few times."
Once to spar with a younger Xichen, who had no knowledge of why Wei Wuxian would usually be recalcitrant to do such a thing.
"There's a disappointing library, a quiet car that's great for naps—ah, meditation?" He has so far successfully used it to attempt meditation, then nodded off, every time. "Meditation, brushing my hair, pacing the entire length of the train, being chased out of the kitchen by anyone who does not enjoy spice, did you know there are machines for laundry here? It's fascinating!"
Long and short, he's been going stir crazy and inventing ways to stay occupied.
no subject
"It seems I have much to examine." And explore and figure out. He does take note of a few interesting places within that list. And he will make sure to keep to his normal schedule despite being in a new place. Which means probably making good use out of at least the gym, quiet cars, library and gardens. He understands being able to enjoy quiet and down time more then his counterpart.

Ergo, life as a low level, no-core cultivator endlessly seeking his own amusements.
Still, eventually, the time at platform ends, and one way or another, they're summoned back on the train with that inevitable tug that has him sighing and then walking onboard, casting a last, baleful look back at the outdoors soon to disappear for another two weeks.
"It was nice seeing you, sky."
no subject
He will not be too pleased to find out he has roommates but he will have to endure it. He doesn't intend to stay in at particular cabin much anyway.
"You will see it again soon." Perhaps not as soon as the man might want but being inside isn't forever based on what he has been told so all he has to do is help his soulmate endure until that time comes again.
