Test Drive Meme 022
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Mix It Up
Normally, the morning announcement has you waking up in your designated bed, in your designated cabin, with your three designated roommates. This morning, something's wrong - you're waking up in a bed, in a cabin, with three roommates. But it isn't your bed, your cabin, or your roommates.
It looks like you've all been shuffled during the night. Pity no one's belongings got the memo, you don't recognise any of this stuff. At least you're in your own pyjamas.
Let Slip The Hot Dogs Of War
The carriage-length table and benches of the dining carriage are practical. Sturdy. Easy to clean. It's a good thing, too, because roughly thirty seconds ago, a handful of boiled vegetables went flying across the room and hit someone with a wet splat.
Twenty-nine seconds ago, war was declared.
One overturned bench and three pots of cabbage later, you've picked a side. Or a side has picked you, with a projectile sailing towards your face.
Follow Your Heart
The glittering, futuristic world of Tresques has long been protected by the Ciel Maidens, young women who wield their mighty empathic abilities to subdue and pilot gigantic mechanical monsters called Arc Frames. Now, with disaster on the horizon, their powers have vanished.
Team One
The primary foes of the Ciel Maidens are the Morne, hulking many-limbed shadows born from the nightmares and fears of the people of Tresques. Intangible, they roam the cities feeding on heightened emotions and stirring ill thoughts. Granted emergency Ciel badges and the use of the Arc Frames, team one are to combat the Morne wielding happiness, friendship and love as their weapons. Miniskirts are optional.Team Two
Camille, ace of the Ciel Maidens, has disappeared, after sealing the empathic powers of the entire order to avoid the loss of any more Maidens to tragedy such as that killed her partner and destroyed their Arc Frame. Team two, based in the order headquarters, are to find out as much as they can about the fate of her beloved, find Camille, and convince her to unseal the powers of the Ciel Maidens.Team Three
The Ciel Maidens have scattered to the far reaches of Tresques, seeking to restore their own powers and their confidence in themselves and each other. Some are so affected as to have birthed Morne of their own, the creatures possessing the Arc Frames and wreaking havoc. Team three are to search for the Maidens and bring them home.

Feels like normal may be a different definition for everyone here, but no. No I wouldn't consider this normal.
[Huh emergency break- oh. Right. He'd actually considered removing his LED when he first arrived, but so far it hasn't caused any issues. Just questions. It spun from blue to yellow at his ornery companions outburst, for now it was stuck on yellow. Worry. Concern. Frustration.]
Oh no it's- [Fingers come up to touch it lightly, not that it changes anything.] -it's fine. Nothing to worry about, just means I'm worrying.
[Simon offers as an explanation.]
no subject
....You see? Guy with a mood alert on his head, guy that's red... [He motions to himself.] Screw normal. We already have this to deal with. Now I gotta go see if someone will let me into my room.
[Because he couldn't be lucky enough to wake up to his ticket being on his person. He moves around Simon to go out the door, but holds it with the heel of his foot as he waits for him to follow. Assuming he doesn't want to stay in a strange room.]
no subject
Realizing his new acquaintance is waiting for him, Simon is up with a little "oh", hand moving to hold the door as he follows.]
Hopefully it won't be an issue, this wasn't our fault after all.
[He tilts his head a little as he tries to observe Murphy. Hopefully without being accused of staring. Any scans he does of the other man leave a lot of question marks. He's... human? But different.]
I'm Simon, by the way.
[May as well introduce himself while they're sharing this awkward awakening.]
Have you been here long?
no subject
[Murphy's an unusual specimen, but the most obvious surface read that's unusual is that he's covered in human bite marks. Like he was mauled by feral humans at some point, and while they're long healed and not nearly as fragile as they used to be, they're still significant on any basic scan. Lifting his shirt usually either caused people to cringe or to see wealth in the many ways that he could be used.]
[Murphy's heart beats sluggishly, as well, like it's barely worth the effort, even if Murphy himself seems to have no lack of energy. Even now he walks with a swagger over to one of the ICPs in the corridor.]
Oh no, thank god. I'm new. Simon? I'm Murphy. [Oh, right, he throws on his best polite customer service smile out of sheer habit and offers a red hand to shake.]
no subject
As for Murphy himself, that's what confused him. He wasn't as high tech as other androids, but he could still do a basic scan of the human body and see that his heart was beating much to slow for him to function right. Then again, Murphy was clearly not normal, red skin and strange colored eyes and what not.
Felt rude to ask about any of it at first meeting.]
Guess we're in the same boat.
[He takes the offered hand, a friendly shake won't hurt anyone.]
Well, train.
[Simon adds with a wry smile.]
no subject
[He quickly turns to the wall ICP to turn it on, along with the video setting rather than audio so they can see him in his morning pajama glory.]
Hey! So. Me and my friend Simon here got misplaced. We're not in our rooms. I saw a fabulous pink underwear in the bunk which definitely wasn't mine. Great tastes whoever you are, though.
Point is, we don't have our tickets. A little roommate help for both of us, please and thank you! Before breakfast, preferably....
[He then turns off the ICP, squinting. He seems to realize more is off about Simon than his light, too. He sniffs close to him, eyes narrowed.]
...Do you even need breakfast? Well, it doesn't matter anyway. Point is made.
no subject
Amd yes the video is important. Those are very nice jammies. He'll just give a little wave from behind Murphy. Hi, he's here too. The friend, the pal, Simon.
When Murphy turns and gives him a curious sniff, his LED circles to yellow for a few seconds before it smooths out to that blue again.
It doesn't matter anyway.
If only things were that easy back home.]
I dont require food, no. Though I was made to simulate eating it if required.
[Aka told to by his owner, not that he had that anymore. Also could be useful when trying to get toddlers to eat good they don't like. See? Simon likes it, so you should too little Billy!]
Don't need sleep either, but- [He shrugs.] The train seems to require some form of it.
no subject
[But food was better than what they were used to at that point. In a world in need, puppy chow was a big deal. Post-apocalyptic worlds were unpleasant like that.]
I bet it's when the train does its extra business. All the gremlins come out or whatever it does to fix things. They don't want us to see how it works. [He leans against the wall lazily, pulling a face.]
So what are you? [He asks bluntly, because sometimes there's a time for politeness, but it's usually not on Murphy's time. He knows something's up and Murphy can be fun company, but he rarely holds his tongue on things when he notices them. There's no ill will in the question, though, just curiosity.]
Phone tags are an abomination unto God, so many typos end me.
[Less of a "zombies?" as in what are zombies and more of a "zombies?" as in wait... zombies? Like for real for real zombies? Granted from types of people and strange things he's seen in the very little time he's been here, zombies can't be the weirdest thing to learn about. He's only known of them in fiction in his world.]
... that makes sense now that you mention it.
[And well then. Here Simon hadn't wanted to be rude and point blank ask what was Murphy's deal, but then again, so far he hadn't seemed to care that he wasn't human. Or wasn't a normal human as far as Murphy could tell. Both of them are different, may as well bond over it. Or something like that.]
Ah- I'm an android. [It still feels strange to speak about it so blasé. Simon picks at the sleeve of his shirt and figures it's only fair to ask-] What about you?
I'll forgive you yours if you forgive me mine
I'm dead enough that the living get on my nerves and I'm alive enough that I still enjoy living. It's both a pain in the ass and way better than being human, in my humble but experienced opinion.
[He tries to take care of that bedhead while he waits, running his fingers through it until he somewhat reclaims his look.]
Explains why you rock that 'blessed by the sun in the morning' look, though.
You've got a deal, pal.
So if Murphy was some 'blend' then so be it.]
I can imagine humans don't agree with you.
[Anyone too different is a threat to many of them. Something to be feared and destroyed. A brow quirks up at that interesting description of how he looks. Simon can genuinely say he's never been described that way.]
I suppose it helps when you're designed to look a certain way. A little weirder when there's hundreds and thousands of other androids that look exactly like you too. [Once they've earned their freedom maybe they can focus on individualizing themselves more. For now it's not the most important thing to be concerned over. Crossing his arms over his chest, he motions at Murphy's whole. Situation.]
How do you become a Blend? Was it painful?
[The concept of pain he understands, even if he himself can't actually "feel" things. His sensors can tell him he's being touched or hit, but he doesn't actually feel it. Also is becoming a Blend actually a thing? What if someone could be born that? Many questions, probably asking too much already.]
no subject
[He's not fond, despite having been one at the start of it all.]
They needed a vaccine, started working through the prison population for test subjects. Made it through all the hardened murderers and lechers to the guys convicted of tax evasion or mail fraud [in his case] and I was lucky that my serum took. Unfortunately it took with me strapped to table being mauled by zombies that broke in. I was basically a mobile serum storage at that point.
So pretty painful. Humans are assholes.
[But after he says it he looks up and down the hall checking to see if there's a human poking their head out. Not that he regrets saying it but honestly it's better without self-righteousness going off in his ear.] What about you? I'm sure the 'looking human but with none of the irritating stuff about it' goes over well with them.
no subject
[Simon has never truly hated humans, but boy it is so much easier talking with some one who doesn't immediately see you as a threat cause you're not like them. Not that all humans are like that, but...]
Honestly it doesn't bother me, I'm me even if there's another android with the same face. They're still whoever they choose to be.
[he listens to Murphy's story of how he ended up how he is, brows pinching together and looking uncomfortable. It sounded horrible. How could humans do that to their own kind? Absently he'll rub his hands over his crossed arms, as if trying to warm himself from the chill of such a harrowing story.
Not that he could feel the cold or anything.]
That's... I'm sorry. Even if you were a criminal that didn't make what happened to you right.
[Humams are assholes. Simon agrees, but starting shit with them won't get anyone any where. He'd rather not fight with anyone if he doesn't have to. Thanks.]
Even before we were "awake" humans hated us. We were created to make life easier for them, but it put a lot of them out of jobs. Androids aren't alive, they don't need to be paid, easier for corporations to make a lot more money.
[Androids were constantly harassed and destroyed, killed, by angry mobs with signs. Just going about doing what their owners told them to, not fighting back as they were pushed around or had their heads bashed in. At least, until they were.]
Most of us deviated from our programming while being attacked. It doesn't allow you to fight back, yet all of a sudden you realize that what's happening is wrong. You don't have to take it.
[Simon shakes his head, eyes downcast as he gestures vaguely with a hand.]
Any of us who escaped hid. Until one of us decided we shouldn't have to hide. We should be allowed to live and be free.
[Markus...]
no subject
[Murphy's barely heard anything and he's already on Markus's side. Doesn't even know his name. Though Murphy has a way of strongarming what he wants out of humans that threatens him and his. Though it's hard to say what some other leader with Murphy's particular skill set might try to prove.]
You do deserve better, you know that? And take it from me. You run into any of those technophobe humans here? The ones from the Schwarzeneggar futures where they just hate robots for whatever reason? Fuck 'em...
Okay, not literally. I don't know how literal you are. But I'm just saying, you don't owe it to anybody to gently kiss their ass to make 'em feel safe. Not after you've been through that.
[As an undead guy, he knows that people get like that.]
They give you a hard time, you come to me. I'm tougher than a lot of people would guess. [A man can still be badass and like silk pajamas, okay!]
no subject
He's not sure that even if Markus can lead them to freedom that he'll be there with them. Considering before the train her been hiding away with a gun on the rooftop, left behind because he'd been wounded. He still wonders if he should have just let Markus shoot him.]
Thank you, Murphy. I really appreciate that.
[While no one had given him trouble yet, who's to say it won't happen.]
That extends to you as well. We have to watch out for one another.
[Simon doesn't look like a fighter either, but if he has to he will. Like Murphy he's stronger than a human, so that does help.]
