Test Drive Meme 022
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun.
Happy testing!
Mix It Up
Normally, the morning announcement has you waking up in your designated bed, in your designated cabin, with your three designated roommates. This morning, something's wrong - you're waking up in a bed, in a cabin, with three roommates. But it isn't your bed, your cabin, or your roommates.
It looks like you've all been shuffled during the night. Pity no one's belongings got the memo, you don't recognise any of this stuff. At least you're in your own pyjamas.
Let Slip The Hot Dogs Of War
The carriage-length table and benches of the dining carriage are practical. Sturdy. Easy to clean. It's a good thing, too, because roughly thirty seconds ago, a handful of boiled vegetables went flying across the room and hit someone with a wet splat.
Twenty-nine seconds ago, war was declared.
One overturned bench and three pots of cabbage later, you've picked a side. Or a side has picked you, with a projectile sailing towards your face.
Follow Your Heart
The glittering, futuristic world of Tresques has long been protected by the Ciel Maidens, young women who wield their mighty empathic abilities to subdue and pilot gigantic mechanical monsters called Arc Frames. Now, with disaster on the horizon, their powers have vanished.
Team One
The primary foes of the Ciel Maidens are the Morne, hulking many-limbed shadows born from the nightmares and fears of the people of Tresques. Intangible, they roam the cities feeding on heightened emotions and stirring ill thoughts. Granted emergency Ciel badges and the use of the Arc Frames, team one are to combat the Morne wielding happiness, friendship and love as their weapons. Miniskirts are optional.Team Two
Camille, ace of the Ciel Maidens, has disappeared, after sealing the empathic powers of the entire order to avoid the loss of any more Maidens to tragedy such as that killed her partner and destroyed their Arc Frame. Team two, based in the order headquarters, are to find out as much as they can about the fate of her beloved, find Camille, and convince her to unseal the powers of the Ciel Maidens.Team Three
The Ciel Maidens have scattered to the far reaches of Tresques, seeking to restore their own powers and their confidence in themselves and each other. Some are so affected as to have birthed Morne of their own, the creatures possessing the Arc Frames and wreaking havoc. Team three are to search for the Maidens and bring them home.

He did not expect him to sit beside him but Lan Wangji is not one to simply cast someone away. This is a shared meal space and with everything that has happened, he holds no ill will towards Wen Ning. Perhaps he should be surprised by his appearance in this place but even he has figured out how to read the names of the passangers and is well aware of all who reside on it.
He gives another little bow of the head in greeting, which happens to coincide with something going flying over it. The people on this train are clearly heathens.
"I do not think they have dry food at their disposal." Clearly it was all eaten or not seen as appropriate for throwing. Whatever the reason, whomever is on cleaning duty has quite the mess to clean up whenever this war declares its victor.
no subject
Unfortunately he's not the kind of person to stand up and draw attention to themselves by telling everyone to knock it off. It would only make him everyone's new target, most likely.
"A-are we allowed to take our food out of here to eat elsewhere?" He hasn't been here much longer than Lan Wangji, and he asks this about the rules of the train. However, he could just as well be asking the other man about his sect rules and whether or not they apply in this situation.
no subject
"Usually it would not be proper to do so." But in these circumstances he really is ready to give up on trying to have any sort of peaceful meal in this place. And they have already broken so many rules that at this point, Lan Wangji finds that breaking etiquette just so he can eat in peace might be worth it.
He pushes himself up out of his seat and picks up his food. Clearly he is throwing all propriety out the window in this one moment. "Do you know of a quieter place?" Even if the man hasn't been here long, certainly he has that knowledge. Anywhere else would be better then this so that he can finish his meal without worry about someone else's lunch ending up in his lap.

The Quiet Coach, in other words. Keeping track of all the new words and phrases is hard enough without having to deal with cars that have weird names. At least most of them are labeled fairly normally, like the kitchen and dining cars. He's sure eventually this won't be anything out of the ordinary for him, though he's not sure he should be looking forward to that day.
"If we duck out quickly, maybe no one will aim at us..." And even if they do it's unlikely they'll be chased out the door. Hopefully. Most of the people involved in the food fight are too busy worrying about those that are throwing food back in their direction than those that aren't.

He gives the other man a brief look as if making sure he was going to be coming along as well, not going to tell him he can't and willing to share their meal as long as it is in the silence of a room that doesn't have food being flung around in the worst kind of warfare that he has ever experienced in his life.
At least getting lost in this place is nearly impossible. One simply has to travel straight to get where they are going. And when he notices the name of the cars it makes for a better eating option already. Quiet Car is something that Lan Wangji can easily support.
Locating an empty room, he heads inside and then pauses to wait for the other man to join him.

He sets his bowl down in front of him but doesn't take a seat himself until Lan Wangji is in as well. Thankfully both of them have gotten out of the mess relatively unscathed - though that's normal for his friend. Part of him fully believes that the second jade is immune to being dirtied like normal people and only allows blood on his clothes to up his intimidation factor.
"Sorry you had to deal with that mess," he says as though he had anything to do with it. No one else is going to apologize for it, so he might as well.
no subject
"You did not cause it and you did not join in." Therefore the apology is mute and he will make sure that it comes from the source even though he doesn't particularly care about receiving it himself.
But the fact that Wen Ning didn't partake in it has already scored the man plenty of bonus points in his mind. Not that he didn't already rate the other fairly high in his scale of tolerable human beings.
"Eat." Which in Lan means, no talking while eating but he has since given up in attempting to stop Wei Ying from doing so. Which means he also won't force Wen Ning either. The man simply has to be aware that he will be keeping his responses short.
sorry for my slowness
The spoons here are flatter than he's used to, but at least they get the job done. He picks up his bowl to scoop up some vegetables only to realize that there's a bit of cabbage hanging off the rim. It must have gotten past his defenses at some point, which makes him wonder if anything else had made it into his bowl without him noticing. Not wanting to make a mess, he carefully knocks the cabbage into the broth and digs around some with his spoon to see if there's anything else he missed.
Well. He can't waste food, so it can't be helped. There's probably cabbage in the soup already, so it won't make a difference. Scooping a spoonful into his mouth, there's a bit of a pause as Wen Ning chews and then quickly swallows. He doesn't make a face of disgust, but he does look down at his bowl as though it's betrayed him.
That's awful.
But it's not the first time he's had to down awful food. It just means he's going to be eating the rest as quickly as possible without being rude about it.
It is ok!
His pallet has only slightly shifted since meeting Wei Ying and perhaps he can blame the taste of this food on the meals he has had lately with the other man around. He actually is a decent cook himself so if he has to, he will take over cooking duties so that he will not have to endure this kind of meal every day. He has a feeling the other man is thinking similar things.
Once finished he puts his utensils down and will quietly wait for the other man to finish his meal as well. It isn't often that they are left alone without the main source of chatter of their group. But there is no telling where Wei Ying is at that moment. He reaches out and picks up his tea cup, lifting it to his lips to take a sip and wash down the taste of the food. He keeps his expression neutral even as the tea hits his tongue and he realizes that it is also...not good.

Since he's finished eating, he figures he's allowed to speak again. If not, Lan Wangji will let him know. "Ah... I forgot to warn you about the tea, sorry." He doesn't even have a drink himself. It was too much to handle, what with using his tray for a shield and all. He'll get himself some water later.
"They put... a mesh bag of sorts into the water and let it soak." He indicates the size of the bag with his fingers. "Normally, anyway. I don't know how they do it in the kitchen before serving it, but it doesn't seem any better. Not enough flavor."
no subject
"It is disappointing." He isn't afraid to voice his opinion as he sets the tea cup down. He will have to drink it. Just as wasting food isn't allowed, nor is letting the drink go to waste. It's a shame that he has to ruin his pallet with such an abomination but it can't be helped. Next time he will have to see if something different is available or else simply drink water with his meal. If the drink is going to be bland anyway, might as well be water.
"Is there a better way to get what we need?" Certainly the kitchen isn't their only option. Someone has to know where to obtain actual tea leaves so that a proper drink can be made.

He hasn't been on the train long enough to know how everything functions. There's only the few things others have told him when he's asked around about other matters. "I think... you can request things on the ICP?" Or in his and his sister's case - people. Each other. Clearly there are no promises that this will work out the way the person requesting wants it to. "Maybe if you ask for certain foods they'll start keeping them in the kitchen." But again, he doesn't know for sure.
"I did hear that you can ask for things with some kind of points? I just don't know how they're earned yet. I found out where to check mine and I must have earned some on the last mission. It's not a large amount so I thought I would save it." After a couple weeks or so Lan Wangji is free to use his own points to buy tea leaves. Wen Ning likes the man and he likes good tea, but not enough to use his first points for it.
no subject
"This information is helpful." He will put it to good use. Because he doesn't want to spend any more time drinking this tea then he has to. But for now...he will endure.
Having not been on the train for very long he finds all information to be beneficial. The more he knows, the easier the transition is. There is still a lot to get used to. The technology here far more then he is used to and the kitchen is certainly a daunting place. But at least he has been able to take solace in the more recognizable areas such as the library.
"What are the missions like?" Certainly not like the night hunts they are used to...but he is curious.
no subject
He hadn't been able to check on them after that, though he can assume all the remaining citizens were alright. Unfortunately that world, or at least the protective wards around the city, considered him just as much of a demon as the ones they fought. He can't blame them for that, though. Barriers like that can only be so precise and he'd rather they keep out the things that really need to be kept out, even if he ends up being included on the list.
"We're divided up based on our team colors... for the most part. Some teams worked together and I think we had the option to switch around a little." He doesn't know if this will always be the case. This could have been a one time deal. Sticking with his own group had seemed like the logical thing to do given that there were younger members that he didn't want to see head into danger on their own.
no subject
"And was the mission successful?" Because at the end of the day that is what matters. Not what the mission entails but that is concluded with everything ending well. And having to move survivors through demon filled territory was probably not the easiest of tasks.
There are a lot of people on the train, and a lot of fairly capable ones from what he could tell. So he has no doubts that the missions probably end up fairly productive. But it probably also depends on the mission and how it matches up to the skill sets available.
