Honestly magic is pretty reproducible in her setting. To the point where by the 2080s a lot of technology hybridizes use of magic and traditional physical principles. And heck, she kind of helped get that ball rolling with her magical pseudo-souled AI robot/magic doll daughter... thing.

But she's from 2003 or so, an opinionated jerk, and definitely leans to the mystic side of things in how she approaches it, so plenty of room for argument.

He's actually got some magic he's trying to learn from a book, finally, after many months of failing to get someone to teach him. It's going to be an interesting experience.
