Test Drive 020

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun.

Happy testing!

Crisis On... An Aeroplane

The train has a game carriage and the VR video games are always popular. A good way to relive boredom as well as teaching some good skills.

Crisis on...This game can be played with two to four players. It is essentially a crisis simulator mixed with an escape room. You can chose the scenario (the bridge of a space ship, a camp in a jungle, a high rise building, a sailing ship etc) and you are thrown into the middle of a crisis of some kind. Teamwork and a cool head are important as is using the surroundings wisely.

Here you are the crew of a small aeroplane in desperate trouble and attempting to land, the wind is strong, your engines are straining and the visibility is near zero. Can your crew land safely?

Dressing up

The Voidtreckers have a new mission and the dressing carriage is open for their convenience...

The mission is taking them to a circus and the clothes sure reflect that. Clown costumes, glittery leotards, many feathers and an overabundance of sequins.

There is make up and facepaint provided as well, hopefully there are enough voidtreckers with expertise to make it look convincing.

Clowning Around

Strange happenings have been happening in Kilpi, a monster ridden land and joining a performing troupe is the best bet of protection outside of the small settlements. The voidtreckers are masquerading as one such troupe, in order to help out a small settlement that has seen a spate of killings. Voidtreckers must put on the show of their lives, investigate the killings and bring peace back to the town.

Team One

Setting up the stage for the performance is a good time for building bonds with the towns people. Everyone knows something, no matter how small and they are more likely to gossip with stage hands than talk to the town guard.

Gather information, set up a stage and get ready for the show.

Team Two

The killings always happen in the evening or at night, always when people are alone. So making sure people are not alone is the task of team two. The show is ready, it is big, it is loud and hopefully enough to draw in the whole town.

Eat fire, juggle, walk that tightrope. Music plays, sequins glitter. The show is a distraction and their task is to be the best distraction they can be.

Team Three

Whilst team two are distracting it is team threes chance to catch the killer. The streets are deserted, quiet and stealth is necessary to remain undetected.

Most people are at the show, but not everyone. Are they in danger? Or are they potential suspects.

He flashes a smile at the man who looks remarkably like his once-upon-a-time martial brother, may he rest in peace, not because he's dead, but because Wei Wuxian does still worry about Jiang Cheng even if he's hundreds and thousands of li away. Or a whole universe, apparently. He's been more surprised at how real this scenario feels than concerned over the particulars of it; being addressed, his attention is now Jiang Shao.

(He can only guess without introductions this is not his once-upon-a-time martial brother, because Jiang Cheng would have already been yelling at him if it was. Impeccable logic.)

"No," he says, stepping toward the seat with the collection of buttons, levers, and strange handles something like sword hilts (they're not at all like that, but what else is he going to call them) and takes hold. They've been moving as the plane angles "down", and interfaces that remind him of the recently learned something-or-anothers in the train sleeping chambers are displaying a vaguely sort of "earth" and "sky" dichotomy. Possibly it indicates what their sky level looks like. Possibly it does not. "But how hard can it be? It's not like failing here will kill us!"

Cheerily stated by a man who has, in fact, thrown himself to his presumed but not actuated death once before, Wei Wuxian pulls on the strange-hilt-bar and the plane abruptly starts lurching up, engines protesting, and Wei Wuxian thrown back with some felt force into the pilot's chair.

A man of action and jumping into the foray. Just the kind of person he prefers to be in these dangerous sort of situations with. Jiang Shao grins back and slides into the other empty seat with bits and bobs on a panel before them and tried to mimic the other man’s actions.

“I lived a good life,” he jokes.

Good, short life. He pulls something and presses another thing and the dull roar that seemed to emanate from the plane quiets to something far more tame sounding.

Not difficult. It’s easy to work in tandem when neither of you know how anything works, right? He twists his lip and presses at another button, watching in awe as the windows seem to clear up.

“What a strange game.” He sounds marveled. He wants to know how it all works. And how he could use it to his advantage. He grins at the other man. “And you are?”

He laughs at the joke, part of him noting for him it's perhaps not a great truth, and really, he just came back from being mostly dead, what, three months ago? Four?

It's not important. Neither is this game, though he does find it fascinating. Swordflight was nothing like this.

"Wei Ying, courtesy name Wei Wuxian." Two buttons on the board before them start to blink, one in orange, another in blue. He reaches out to examine the one closest to him, which happens to be blue, and has no idea what it's indicating. The light isn't pressable, and there's no writing to inform him of what it should mean. His gaze flits to the screen-surface showing earth and sky again, and he corrects the hilts so they're pointed somewhat more skyward, then holds it even. If it's actually working or not is debatable--that orange light starts to blink faster, and then a warning beep sounds.

He has no idea it's warning for possible engine failure.

"And you are?" Definitely not Jiang Cheng. It's outright eerie, and amusing.

The alarming noise catches his attention and Jiang Shao looks out the window and then back at the shelf before him with buttons and such. His new friend, Wei Wuxian, seems to not know what is happening either and tries at different buttons.

Jiang Shao frowns and looks around him before noticing that the entire chambers seem to start to plummet very quickly. He grabs at a few handlebars and looks ahead to see that there's more sky than ground.

"Jiang Shao," he replies with a laugh. "And it looks like we're heading toward the ground, do you think you could guide this thing to keep it level? I'm going to see if one of these things guides wheels underneath, if it even has wheels. Perhaps we could get it to coast on the ground? Or slide it along the grass?"

"Jiang Shao?" A hint of surprise, but followed by laughter as he shakes his head: what are the chances? Who knows, maybe in some time or universe, no stranger than this train is, Jiang Shao is a member of the Jiang clan. Is it a nice thought or a sobering one thinking of his martial once-upon-a-brother being followed by his own apparent twin, or descending from such an individual?

It's a silly, pointless thought, so he shifts to the other less silly ones for the situation.

"Or water," he adds, "Water may be clear enough, can you see any large enough open space? This is stranger than sword flight, but holding it steady shouldn't be an issue."
