Winter Wonderland

Experienced Voidtreckers will be the first to recognise when the announcement of a stop comes over the speakers: “Arriving at world 9126110 in ten, nine, eight…”

The doors don’t open, the train doesn’t stop. Instead, it slows, and the garden carriage opens its curved, clear roof as though it were a convertible, both sides folding back until the carriage is open to the air. The world is a picture of snow-covered mountains and sparse conifers, and within minutes the garden’s fountain and streams have iced over, soft snow coating the cobbles and benches.

The stop lasts all day, the vending machines dispense free hot chocolate, and the dressing carriage is filled with thick coats, wooly hats, and warm gloves.

Void Santa Is Coming To Town

It’s a day like any other, except that the morning announcement has a rider.

“There are packages in the luggage car for all passengers. Enjoy. ”

And indeed, it seems that something has visited during the night - the carriage at the back of the train is unusually neat, the piles of empty luggage stacked carefully near the back to make room for a huge array of wrapped objects. Void Santa, maybe? The difference between Void Santa and, say, one of the many Earth Santas or the Gyueran Spirit of Generosity, is that Void Santa doesn’t give you what you asked for.

It gives you something you wouldn’t have dared to ask for. That nerdy figurine that you eyed in the window of the store, the dress you weren’t brave enough to try on, the device you decided was too expensive. The poster of your favourite holostar, the latest risque novel from the local printworks… the list goes on.

You’ve got a present in here, better find it before someone else does!

Animal at Heart

Seibairen, world #671155003, is a world of dualities. Technologically advanced but also deeply mystical, its population is currently suffering under the rule of a nameless arcanist, a genius of artificial intelligence and magecraft who seeks to elevate her own mechanical brethren above their biological creators. Unfortunately, she is far too powerful to face directly.

Team One

The arcanist holding the world of Seibairen in thrall is particularly skilled with polymorph spells, and her first move as the Voidtreckers enter the conflict is to cast one over a wide area, transforming almost half of the force into various animals. The spell seems to be mildly incompatible with void-travellers, as those affected have turned into creatures from their homeworlds, if possible, rather than the local wildlife. The fight is still on, no time to panic!

… Or maybe some time to panic, it’s looking permanent for now. Still, the civilians need the Voidtreckers’ protection, animal or not, and it isn’t like they’ve lost any of their abilities.

Team Two

The monks of the deep peaks, trained in anti-magic combat and able to counter the arcanist and her forces, are the best hope for turning the tides. Unfortunately, their remote stronghold is blockaded the moment the Voidtreckers arrive, trapping them under a shield of pale metal and harsh light. There are several ways they and the unlucky early Voidtreckers might be freed: the power sources of the barrier, held in the centre of the arcanist’s camps, could be destroyed or sabotaged. Alternatively, the barrier could be overloaded or even broken from the inside by an ancient artefact held within the inner temple. The monks are able to guide the Voidtreckers through a telepathic metaconcert, but hurry, time is running out...

Team Three

A thaumatologist somewhere within the capital is rumoured to be able to reverse the arcanist’s strange spells, which would give the Voidtreckers a fighting chance against her directly. Several different people are claiming to be this thaumatologist, and they all have a list of ingredients they’ll need for the protective ritual and/or devices they’re offering.

At least one of them is sure to work, but there’s going to be some experimenting before that happens. Alternatively, force would find the correct researcher fairly quickly, but it would also attract attention.

Winter Wonderland

Otoha, being the rational person he is, doesn't bother with the coats or gloves. He has a dark trenchcoat on, a turtleneck, pants, and shoes. That's all he really needs. He perches himself atop one of the rock formations as he tries to get a better view of what they're approaching.

Once he's satisfied that he's got all out of that view that he's going to, he settles himself near the edge of the garden, watching the other passengers with a mix of curiosity and suspicion.


Void Santa Is Coming To Town

He's extremely skeptical about this idea of him having a package, but if there is something there for him he should grab it as soon as possible. Pushing himself through the crowd of passengers he finds a very small box with his name on it. He rips through the black wrapping paper to find...

A picture. Specifically a picture of him and a laughing man. It's even sitting in a simple dark wood frame. The picture suddenly drops and he grabs it out of the air, wondering why it fell - oh. He's shaking. He turns and tries to push his way out of the crowd again - he needs to get back to his room before anyone sees this kind of emotion from him.


Eye of the Crow

Just because he's on a train doesn't mean he's slacking. He manages to grab a wooden practice sword that's about the right weight and sets up a number of training dummies. Even with the sword being dull, there's still decent gouges in the dummies as he bounces between them, ducking and weaving and slashing them from all different angles. His actual sword still hangs at his belt - no way is he letting anyone get close to it.

He turns and faces whoever it is has entered, sizing them up. A sparring partner? Or someone who still has a long way to go?


Emptiness I Bleed [CW: Blood, injury mention, stitches]

It was inevitable. Otoha, being Otoha, has gotten himself injured. How badly? He sure isn't telling anyone, but he's been confined to medical for a few days. So far he's made it clear that he's a difficult patient, from trying to smash his way out of the carriage to refusing to keep his wounds covered long enough, to straight up being difficult to keep stitches on. He keeps insisting he's fine, but no one believes him.

Of course he feels like he's fine. He can't feel pain, so all of these are just minor annoyances to him. It's everyone else who's wrong here and overreacting.

[Masumi had also gotten a picture, though hers seemed to be a family photo set at a beach featuring her, her mother, and her brothers. And unlike Otoha, Masumi’s much more open about her feelings over this gift, so she’s clearly blinking back happy tears when she runs into him.]

Hey, did you get a picture too? This is quite the surprise, huh?

Nita had been too late to see this, its first time around... and regardless of how she felt about the train now, she didn't want to pass it up.

She did, however, still wear a coat - a lighter one, with her hoodie underneath picking up some of the slack - and had opted for some steady boots as well.

Spotting the watcher all by himself, she wandered by with an extra cup of cocoa.

"Don't suppose I could interest you in one of these? It's still warm."

He might have to look down. Likely, this is no sparring partner--but the feline does certainly seem to be an interested party, nonetheless!

For an ehhif, you're rather spry, aren't you? the tortoiseshell asks, whiskers quite forward and gold eyes slitted in amusement, tail tip vibrating slightly. Do you do this often, or are you an enthusiastic novice?

There's no malice in her voice at all--though she sports, oddly enough, a distinct New York accent...

[This was a nice sight. Kairi extended her hand to let a snowflake land in the palm of her hand. It was cold. Something new to her since she had never really recalled living anywhere with such things. Just the islands.

Kairi was just going to happily enjoy the time just simply watching the snow.]

[Kairi looked around carefully. This was her first situation since she finished her training, so she figured she might as well attempt to use this time to learn more as she went. So in her mind, the barrier seemed like the best way to deal with it.]

Do you think we could use magic on the barrier? Try and weaken if that way?

[Well, of course if there was some sort of bad luck, Rich was going to get caught in it. He's not exactly proficient with force fields or energy barriers, so he's been pretty much sulking until a voice gets his attention. He blinks and looks over at the newcomer.]

You got any? It seems like it's worth a shot. Especially if we can find a source or a weak spot to direct attacks on.

... Maybe. I can't transform, so I can't use any of those abilities on it. If we can find something that's making it I can probably smash it?

[She tugs her hat down a little lower, and then summons her Keyblade, blue with teeth like cresting waves.

She's seriously about to start trying to just, hit the barrier with it.]

Flayn was bundled up, and she cut a dainty figure in the snow as she walked carefully through the pristine snowfall.

The hot chocolate piqued her interest, and the girl carefully took a cup of the steaming beverage, examining it closely before blowing on it and taking a careful sip.

“Oh! Oh, my! This is...better than even the finest of teas!”

"It works really well for what is going on" Kairi said happily her own hot chocolate being held in her gloved hands. It felt nice and warm through it.

"It's also delicious."

This is all a little less new to Inigo, already having been around for the last bout of sudden winter fun the train had. But honestly, who couldn't appreciate someone else's first reaction to these sorts of things? Especially when that adorable girl over there seems over the moon with something that's slowly become as normal to him as hot chocolate.

So Inigo smiles as he approaches her.

But talking regularly to a girl he's never met before? Of course that's not going to happen. No, instinctively the first thing that comes out of his mouth is just: "Why, milady, I happen to spot something that makes my heart feel even warmer than that drink!"

Lea enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate of his own, though he was tall and lanky rather than dainty. "It is pretty good," he agreed. "You got any marshmallows in yours?"

Not far, a dark-haired girl turned and twisted to look at herself - at the long, pink tail, and tiny wings that were thankfully not too restricted by her clothing. It still felt awkward compared to what she was used to...

But her twisting lead her attention to the girl with the hot chocolate. "Hm? What it is that you have there?"

The train itself had been strange--sweet Iau, nothing like the ones Saash was used to in Grand Central. She licked her nose briefly as the garden car's very ceiling opened. Of course, she'd followed the number of folk making their way here--she couldn't help but be curious, after all, she was a cat!--but she was now wondering if this was the wisest decision she'd ever made.

The snow was cold, after all, and while most of the others had gear offered them, she did not. Though it was true she still stepped out into the car, lifting one paw, shaking it, and then setting it down after the other...


Team Three

'Force would find this thaumatologist'. That was...a reasonable thought, perhaps, but it was so...tomlike. Saash's tail lashed as she considered, because certainly there was a better way. Perhaps a more feline, less tomlike way. Something clever would be good, indeed. She blinked rapidly a few times.

Is there perhaps a way to tell what sort of thing they were using that might change our fellows back? I assume we can't just walk up to the lot and say 'Hail, fellows, I am on errantry and I greet you'?

Alfredo was in the midst of building a snow fort - one safe to read in, rather than something exclusively for snowball fights.

He wasn't overtly paying attention, but there were a few cleared spots of snow around him that were (arguably) safer to walk on... or at least not as cold. And the enclosed space of the fort would be warm eventually, too.

[Its really only a smoking car because Gojyo's smoking in it. Seeing as nobody has complained yet, he's happy to claim the entire space for his bad habit. He's got his feet up on a table and is just idly watching the world pass by through a window.]

"I thought I was done gettin' ordered around by holier-than-thou monks!" [He grouses as they follow the telepathic instructions deeper into the temple.]

"Anyone know what this artefact thing looks like again?"

[Of course there's a package back there for him. He's Handsome Jack- corporate materialism is what he does. It's done up real nice too, with a glittery gold bow and black wrapping paper. Jack wastes no time cutting it open with a pocket-knife and lifting out the square object.

Apparently getting a photo is a very popular gift on this crazy train and HJ is no exception. His expression tightens with barely contained grief...]

"Who sent this?"

[The robot body he's been provided with upon ending up on this train doesn't appear to need warmth. He's looped a black and yellow sweater around his neck anyway because he likes how it looks. The body appears to accept hot chocolate just fine however, so he stands in the cold garden carriage sipping from a mug that has way too many marshmallows in it.]

Rich could have used a nice present here too, so he'd been quite excited to check out what was left for him in the luggage car. His gift, however - an embarrassing romance doujin with a main character who looked painfully familiar with his big dorky glasses and oversized sweater - is not the kind of mood booster he was looking for.

So when he hears someone else complaining about their gift, he scoffs without looking. "It's probably some sick joke from the digital asshole who runs this train. I call her Siri, but I don't really know-"

Oh, excuse him, he just turned enough now to see who he was talking to, and his complaints die in his throat. That's a robot. That's a fucking robot, and it was bad enough seeing a guy with implant tech on this train. There's no human element here, though, so what's the chance its AI is like his...?

Vegeta | DBS: Broly with CRAU

i - Winter Wonderland
[Snow wasn’t anything impressive or interesting to Vegeta. Once you’ve seen one frozen planet you’ve seen them all. And while the cold was an inconvenience it’s also something that doesn’t really impact him. He’ll take the chance to put on some extra layers as the temperature drops, but without any whining or complaining about how cold it was getting.

He is however interested in just what is outside of the train during this all, having been told that they typically stop off in different worlds, and the fact they didn’t in this case has him wanting to check it out. With the ceiling open it does allow him to float up to look outside, hovering just around the open but not leaving the train itself.

He also will be making the most of the hot chocolate available, because why not?]

[As that announcement went around Vegeta really couldn’t care less about some sort of magical gift giving man showing up or whatever it is. Though… curious that it could be a thing, since it was just a story back on Earth, something he had learned over the years as the Briefs certainly went above and beyond when it came to Christmas and gifts. But it was just Bulma buying everything, no house invading fat man. But that doesn’t answer how it happened here.

However as news started getting around that the gifts were… less than ideal, or at least in the sense of may be embarrassing and not wanting others to see, then he’s concerned what might had been left for him. He has to get at it, and hide whatever it is, before it’s spotted. Thus he can be found searching through the gifts when he thinks no one is around, not really caring about shoving those out of the way that are not his.]

iii – Animal at Heart – Team 1
[Vegeta welcomes the chance to get off the train. It’s a chance for him to get free of the restraints of the train and really get a chance to test out getting his full strength back, and more importantly (or equally so) being able to transform.

And it’s amazing.

It also makes him a bit more reckless than normal, if that’s even possible, keen to make up for lost time in the other world he had been trapped in and to try and find a real fight without having limitations on him. That may be the reason why he’s cocky enough to not even dodge that polymorph spell when it hits him, its affects hitting him while he’s still flying into battle and instead of a Saiyan prince landing ready to take enemies on, there is now a rather shocked looking house cat.]

[Saash was bringing up the rear--probably a good thing; who knows how a polymorph spell of that sort would affect her? She does not, however, laugh or poke fun at the suddenly-a-house-cat-Saiyan. Her ears are up, and her tail has something of a bottlebrush look about it, honestly.]

Are you all right? I mean...considering the circumstances.

[The tortoiseshell flicks an ear and licks her nose a few times, discomfited, and then sits down to composure-groom; this is more than a bit beyond her experience and she's not certain how to react.]

[Ryo is familiar with the cold. It had gotten cold in Eloe, though never quite enough to snow. He hadn't seen snow until a few years ago - until Endon and Orion had brought him home with them for the winter. He should be there now, but-]

[Well. He hasn't had much of a choice in anything as of late, has he.]

[He had hoped he could enjoy the snow - he had wrapped himself in one of the available coats, obtained some hot chocolate, and taken a seat on one of the benches - but...]

[But he's homesick. He'd had the situation here explained to him, but- but he shouldn't be here in the first place - he'd promised-]

[It's okay to ask for what you want- right up until someone else decides he can no longer have it, evidently.]

[He holds his hot chocolate in his hands, pressed close to his chest, and looks into it as though it has answers. It doesn't - why would it? - but it beats having to look at anything else. It beats having to think.]

[He takes his package and leaves the luggage car, not stopping until he reaches the dressing car - the first place he can take a seat and be relatively out of the way. He places the still-wrapped package on his lap and, for a few moments, simply looks at it.]

Animal At Heart: Team Three

[He had been lucky enough to avoid becoming an animal or being trapped behind a shield, and an information-gathering mission sounds like the best fit for his skills. At least, that was the case right up until he'd gotten started; as it is, he is holding three different lists of ingredients in his hands, and not only do they not have a single common ingredient between them, but he doesn't recognize anything written on any of them. It seems his herbology knowledge doesn't translate across dimensions.]

[Well. There's no point in going this alone, right? He looks at the person next to him.]

[After a while, Ryo will get some company on the bench! On like, totally the opposite side of the bench, but Asriel's paws are cold from standing in the snow and there aren't any boots that fit feet shaped like his, so.

It's not necessarily that he wants to chat. He does and he doesn't. But most of the people around are adult humans, who he still finds pretty intimidating; at least this one's a kid. He can just sort of sit here and look sadly at his hot chocolate while the human...also kind of does that. Heck, maybe he should say something. He's pretty sure he would've said something way back when. Frisk definitely would.]

[ The last time Bulma had been caught out in the snow hadn’t been all that long ago. Then, of course, she’d been in a full body snow suit (What? She’s used to more tropical weather in West City!) and accompanied by Whis – IE, much more protected from the chil and imminent explosionsl. To say the least she isn’t too thrilled about a train situation, much less with the top open and the temperatures dipping below what she’d like.

Warm options available or not, Bulma is more than a little sour about the change in weather, as evidenced by the annoyed pucker of her lips that seems to fall on her face whenever she’s not chit chatting or otherwise emoting in conversation.

She also has the option to stick close to her overly warm husband, which is what she tends to do unless breaking away to hit up the vending machine for more hot cocoa, grumbling to herself : ]

I swear, this is the last time I go somewhere cold.. who the hell enjoys this weather other than Vegeta?

[ Sorry any nearby fellows on the train, there’s a quick view of one Spoiled Bulma Briefs’ nose wrinkling for a moment as she thinks about a gift being picked for her. There’s just something inherent about being the richest woman in her world that makes her skeptical about a train picking out a gift that might actually be useable.

… And maybe she’s just a little salty that it could literally be any lab equipment and she’d be forced to be at least passably happy about it because she has exactly zero lab equipment on board at the moment.

Still, she can be found with a package in hand, rolling it over as if debating opening it up, a little, unsure frown on her face at the news that some of the presents haven’t quite been .. up to snuff. If she catches someone lingering too long, her brows will shoot up for a moment, as if asking ‘what?’

Perhaps she’s picked a few things up from her grumpy Saiyan husband after all. ]

iii. animal at heart – team three

[ Bulma may not be a fighter like the rest of her family, but she is a scientist. Naturally this means she drifts toward testing thaumatologists and their recipes… well, and the fact that she very much would prefer Vegeta in his human instead of cat form, thankyouverymuch.

So, with that little force of will in mind, Bulma will, in her usual way, try to take control of the situation, trying to catch the eye of others walking away from supposed ‘thaumatologists’ with lists in hand with a quick ‘come here’ gesture, pointing to her own list to compare ingredients and parts lists. Naturally, parts lists are more her thing, as a woman who’s made a couple time machines and other things in her time, so there are two questions on the docket here for anyone that she catches : ]

"It's really not that bad, is it?" Trunks was slightly bundled up--more as a just in case measure than anything else, as the cold didn't bother him so much. But he has two hot chocolates in his hand, and offers one to his-but-not-his-mother.

A: Winter Wonderland

[ The cold doesn't bother Thanatos. He usually runs with a lower body temperature anyways. What does bother him are all the other sensations and bright light reflecting off the snow. He comes out of the dressing carriage wearing a coat with the largest, deepest hood he can find. He cares more for the hood than the size or look of the coat, so it's likely he chose something far larger than he needed to. (Which says something given he's taller than the usual human.) He also dons a thick wooly hat to pull over his ears.

Then he stands off to the side and just watches whatever's going in the garden. Those who look his way will see him quickly turn his head... almost like he's embarrassed to be caught staring. He's also hovering about a foot off the ground. ]

B: Void Santa Is Coming To Town

[ A small rectangular package bearing Thanatos' name sits on a table near the God of Death himself. He's staring at it when he notices someone coming closer to him. ]

Does this Void Santa expect something in return?

[ He's completely serious about his question. He knows Olympian and Chthonic customs, but this is a new one. Thanatos doesn't have anything to give some stranger, so he's considering... leaving the package with the others for Void Santa to take back.

Someone help him understand Santa. ]

C: Animal at Heart: 1/3 (This mouse controls the die)

[ Blood and darkness... what is this now? Having turned into a small grey mouse proved to be completely unhelpful to fight, even with his powers still intact. All it would take is someone hitting him to send him across the battlefield. He'd end up being a projectile.

Additionally... more importantly... Thanatos is the God of Gentle Death. He dislikes the more violent deaths his sisters or Lord Ares would employ against mortals.

So, Thanatos flies over to the group trying to reverse the spells. His efforts to fix this problem will be better with this group. If a character ever wanted to see a flying, talking mouse who is actually Death Incarnate, now is the time. ]

[He’s wandering around when he spots the figure. Curious, he makes his way towards Thanatos. He stops a few feet away, looks pointedly down at the floating and back up into the guy’s face before speaking.]

The kid is a dead ringer for that specter of kiddie Waver that showed up a few events back, but eh, this is fine. ]

[ Ken has to admit, it's nice to get presents. He doesn't want to get in the way of others receiving theirs, though, so he's waiting his turn...

Until he starts noticing the exclamations of embarrassed dismay coming from those who open their packages where they stand. Once this happens enough times to be considered a pattern, he's blinking, looking concerned himself, and then moving towards the pile of presents.

Ah! Wormmon just knocked over a pile! ]

01. Winter Wonderland

[Where are they stopping now? Are they even stopping at all? Eyebrows knit together at the announcement and it doesn't take her long to get a look around. She's careful to wind herself around people as she goes to get a better perspective.

Olivia picks a characteristic place befitting of her solitude and she takes in the sights.

It's... snow. Cold plucks at her skin. She's neglected to grab a one of the fine, heavy coats that have been provided, too caught up in the act of discovery. Enamoured with the sudden arrival of winter's embrace, she doesn't even initially realise she's brushed right up along someone. Even the realisation comes later than she'd like it to.

In moments, she's flushed to the roots of her pink hair.]

O-oh, I'm so sorry. I wasn't... I guess I wasn't paying attention.

02. Void Santa is Coming to Town

There's something for me, too?

[She asks it to no one in particular, though that hardly will stop anyone from overhearing as Olivia speaks to herself. What has she done to be deserving of any presents, after all? If anyone asked, Olivia's certain she'd say she hadn't done or been anything worthy of trinkets and baubles and other such things.

But when she thinks about it like that, she also thinks about every single Shepherd who's scolded her for such self-deprecating conversation. It might be better to leave that kind of talk to her insides. If she can help it. (She normally can't.)

Eventually she makes way for the stash of presents that have been brought for the other passengers not unlike her. Sure enough, there's a present nicely wrapped and tied with a ribbon addressed to her.]

I wonder what it is... [She states as she lifts it and gently shakes it beside her ear. Evidently no one's ever told her she can break something by doing that.]

[ Rather than going along in the familiar shyness spiral between the two of them that often ends up with the two of them being flustered over absolutely nothing, this time Inigo just instead smiles when he hears the words. It's hard to feel even the slightest bit flustered in this situation, after all. It's just nice. The sight isn't new to Inigo, with as long as he's been on this train by now, but just seeing Olivia's marvel at the snowy landscape is enough to fill his own heart with warmth as well.

So rather than saying she doesn't have to apologize or anything of the sort, Inigo just smiles at Olivia - a wide, warm smile. ]

[ A moment Olivia may find a coat - carefully picked to not be one of the heaviest ones, considering it may otherwise have dragged her right down with it - being draped over her shoulders. Though I'd hope looking at it wasn't all you were planning on doing. [ There may be the tiiiniest hint of a gentle tease in it, but his tone is mostly just filled with joy. ]

Winter Wonderland

It wasn't that Song Lan didn't trust the coats themselves, so much as the fact he was aware he wouldn't have been the first to get to them. A new place such as this train had him on edge, and the last thing he needed was to be even more put off by the potential uncleanliness of those around him.

His intentions at the moment were to watch what was happening around him, try to take all the information in that he could. Feel free to come up to him and talk! Don't mind how prickly he can be.

Team Three

The man wasn't the one speaking to the thaumatologists through the capital, but he was making sure to stay close enough to make sure if anyone trying to force the correct information didn't get themselves killed or stuck in a tough position. If they did, he would be relatively quick to be by their side to defend.

The point was to get those who were affected back to normal, and take down the arcanist, after all. As he saw it, there was no need for unnecessary deaths. Not on either side, though especially not on theirs. Not if it could be helped.

Since the recent surgery, Xingchen is now able to see everything with perfect vision. Right now, even doing the smallest task such as preparing for the mission seems easy and he is able to do so with effort.

It's only when he stops to noticed him. He recognized him, his dearest friend. His heart races with excitement and pain. So much has happened to himself since then, that he felt it felt like forever since he last "see" him before his blindness.

Their last encounter since he remembered him is a silent one, and painful last reunion as there's a thin scar across his neck as a reminder. He is wracked with so much guilt, that so much tears streamed down his cheeks, and unable to stop. With a sniffle, he tries to contain whatever dignity he has left, knowing he doesn't deserve this man's forgiveness.

With a quiver in his voice, "Song Lan..." He approaches him carefully, able to see him and maintain his distance. "Do you need a coat? It's cold outside."
