Test Drive 017

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun. Mandatory, mod-sanctioned fun.

Happy testing!

Pumpkin Patch

It seems the ingredient of the month is pumpkins. The store room is full of them, in all sort of sizes all ready to be made into delicious meals. Pumpkin soup, roasted pumpkin seeds, stuffed pumpkin, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pie. All the recipes are on the ICP and are easy enough to follow, even for those who have never seen a pumpkin before in their life.

Get cooking or perhaps passengers from worlds with Halloween festivals wish to carve the pumpkins first, creating grotesque faces or fancy works of art.

Hopefully no one eats a masterpiece!

Movie Wars

The Cinema carriage is as tall as a double carriage, but has only the one floor. Instead it features sloped seating. To enter the carriage from the sleeper carriage side you must first go upstairs. You enter at the top of the carriage, in the centre aisle with paired seating sloping downwards on either side. On the opposite wall there is a large screen and there is a door to the left of the screen once you get to ground level, to allow you into the next carriage.

On the right of the screen there is an ICP and in this carriage it has a catalogue of films and TV series. There are hundreds to chose from.

Hundreds of films to chose from and hundreds of passengers to share it with. Choosing what to watch can be difficult, agreeing what to watch can be impossible.

Are they a fan of Merry Little Voidtrain- the long running cartoon series about a Voidtrain and captain Kheli. Or perhaps a hard hitting drama about cross alien-species romance. Or an action film? A heal tapping musical about robot mice?

Choose a film, try not to argue, grab some popcorn and hope your fellow cinema goers understand cinema etiquette...

Spookstown

A series of mysterious events have struck a small town. The Voidtreckers are in need of help.

The train has brought the Voidtreckers to the town of Carcel. It is a small town with a small population in a world that is low in technology. A town of cobbled streets lined with gas lanterns. The occasional carriage drawn by strange creatures with six legs and long necks. The town is far away from any of the larger population centres of the world and yet it is here where the Voidtreckers must help.

A series of strange disappearances have rocked the town. People vanishing, sometimes from the streets but more recently from their own homes. To make matters worse the town is plagued by ghosts, invisible yet dangerous. They attack by manipulating the environment, throwing knives, tables and even people across a room. The town has descended into chaos and are in desperate need of help.

Team One

There has been some investigation into the missing people and there have been rumours of cries for help in the woods.

A thick, dark, slightly scary woods. The townspeople who are left have lanterns to borrow and promises that the path is safe and easy to follow. Don't worry about that howling, it's just the wind...

Team One must make their way through the woods to find the missing townspeople. Unfortunately for the Voidtreckers the cries and calls for help don't come from the safe paths and so they must move through the undergrowth to find the lost and confused townspeople. What's that creaking noise? Is that a shadow? What lurks in the bushes?

Team Two

Back in the village team two must try and help the villagers who are plagued by ghosts. The ghosts roam around unhindered by walls or doors. Sometimes they are just mischievous, blowing out lanterns, knocking books off shelves. Other times they are violent, throwing objects, throwing people, locking people in or out of their houses.

Protecting people against invisible enemies is no easy task. Help the town gather together, set up barricades, try and hide any dangerous objects before they can be used against the townspeople.

Or perhaps try out some traditional ghostbusting techniques. What harm can it do?

Team Three

Of course all this must have been caused by something. It seems some of the towns teenagers had found a strange cave in their ramblings not a week before. It had been full of strange objects, small gems, daggers, ancient books.

All the sort of things that probably should not be taken from their ancient resting place but of course someone had taken something. Maybe. Few of the teenagers are willing to talk and those that do are unwilling to get their friends into trouble.

Investigate, try and convince them to do the right thing. Round up the items that have been taken and return them to the cave. Hopefully that will end this nightmare!

"Yes this place is quite different from home."

As he has learned after several months.

"The train frequently has missions such as these where we are asked to assist the people of different worlds."

So this was not a unique situation. But since he mentioned secluded meditation...

"Are you well?"
lanxichen: (Sad look)

[personal profile] lanxichen 2020-10-19 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Xichen's ability to actually admit to being unwell... wasn't great.

But his willingness to lie to Wangji was absolutely nonexistent.

So he ... looked away, and slightly shook his head.

"I am sorry."

But that. That meant that Wangji did not know why. Oh.

"May I ask what you last remember, before this place?"

He approached as his brother said that he was not doing well. He always worried after his older brother and to hear he was not doing well...

"Guanyin Temple. Right after."

Oh no, he could guess the reason why, but had no knowledge of what his brother had actually done after that moment in the temple.
lanxichen: (Soft look)

"Ah." Xichen nodded, some tension easing from his shoulders. "It has been some months since then, that is all."

He didn't need to explain to Wangji. That was a relief - he possibly didn't deserve a relief, but he was grateful all the same.

On a better note...

"He comes back with you." Xichen's expression, though not more cheerful, was very fond. "You are good together."

He understood the weight that was on his brother's shoulders. It was a heavy burden to carry so the fact that he didn't want to face others was understandable to WangJi. He didn't need an explanation as to why he had done it.

"Mn. I am glad." A pause. "We married here."
lanxichen: (Serious)

[personal profile] lanxichen 2020-10-19 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good," Xichen said and meant it. His brother's happiness was the one true brightness in his life these days. That he had it here, it was truly good. "May you be of one mind forever."

A traditional wish, which might seem cold, but...

It was not. Because Xichen meant it, and because it was an acknowledgment, from his elder relative and sect leader, of the choices made. Not because Wangji required it, but because both of them deserved it, deserved happiness.

"Thank you."

He intended for it. He loved WuXian dearly and here he had him. And now, he also had his brother. The train now had three most important people in WangJi's life. It was so much better that way.

"May I be of assistance?"

Answering questions, helping with the mission, whatver you like.
lanxichen: (Soft look)

[personal profile] lanxichen 2020-10-20 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Xichen sighed softly, a sweeter kind than he had expected until just now.

"I know not where to start. This place..." And those he had met here already. "I was going to aid those lost, but if you think there is a more important thing to address, I will help there."

Not that Xichen could not make decisions - it was difficult just now, but not impossible - yet Wangji's knowledge was far wider than his own. He had no reason to overrule it.

[personal profile] achickenformylove 2020-10-20 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
WangJi thought about it for a moment. He knew of what the other teams were doing so he considered their options.

"I believe helping those lost is most beneficial. We can work together to find others."
lanxichen: (Consider)

[personal profile] lanxichen 2020-10-20 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps if it had been anyone other than his brother, Xichen might have misunderstood, even know. But he knows Wangji, so he slightly tilts his head.

"Beneficial beyond assisting people who are trapped without a way back?"

He had a lot to lean about how the train worked.
achickenformylove: (mdzs 49)

[personal profile] achickenformylove 2020-10-21 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm... perhaps. It seems to work out that way. Not always as straight forward as it sounds."

Like supposedly going to assist underground natives, getting trapped by monsters, and the group as a whole going to find their god in the tunnels. Something like that.
lanxichen: (Sad look)

[personal profile] lanxichen 2020-10-21 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Xichen just stared for a moment, presently jarred from his state of just-this-side-of-drifting-away.

"... beneficial to whom, do you know?" And why.
achickenformylove: (mdzs 3)

[personal profile] achickenformylove 2020-10-22 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
"To the people lost. To other villagers. To us. To someone we don't know yet."

There were a lot of different reasons as to why. Some were obvious. Others were not at least until they entered the picture.
lanxichen: (Serious)

[personal profile] lanxichen 2020-10-23 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see."

Xichen looked down for a moment, then walked to stand next to his brother.

"Let us do so then. We can look for the answers later."

"Mn."

WangJi took his guqin off his back, holding it carefully so that he could play music on it. In this forest, it seemed like music was the best option to try and get someone to come to them. He was playing something calming, hopefully, to encourage them to come forward rather than hiding.
