Test Drive 017

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun. Mandatory, mod-sanctioned fun.

Happy testing!

Pumpkin Patch

It seems the ingredient of the month is pumpkins. The store room is full of them, in all sort of sizes all ready to be made into delicious meals. Pumpkin soup, roasted pumpkin seeds, stuffed pumpkin, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pie. All the recipes are on the ICP and are easy enough to follow, even for those who have never seen a pumpkin before in their life.

Get cooking or perhaps passengers from worlds with Halloween festivals wish to carve the pumpkins first, creating grotesque faces or fancy works of art.

Hopefully no one eats a masterpiece!

Movie Wars

The Cinema carriage is as tall as a double carriage, but has only the one floor. Instead it features sloped seating. To enter the carriage from the sleeper carriage side you must first go upstairs. You enter at the top of the carriage, in the centre aisle with paired seating sloping downwards on either side. On the opposite wall there is a large screen and there is a door to the left of the screen once you get to ground level, to allow you into the next carriage.

On the right of the screen there is an ICP and in this carriage it has a catalogue of films and TV series. There are hundreds to chose from.

Hundreds of films to chose from and hundreds of passengers to share it with. Choosing what to watch can be difficult, agreeing what to watch can be impossible.

Are they a fan of Merry Little Voidtrain- the long running cartoon series about a Voidtrain and captain Kheli. Or perhaps a hard hitting drama about cross alien-species romance. Or an action film? A heal tapping musical about robot mice?

Choose a film, try not to argue, grab some popcorn and hope your fellow cinema goers understand cinema etiquette...

Spookstown

A series of mysterious events have struck a small town. The Voidtreckers are in need of help.

The train has brought the Voidtreckers to the town of Carcel. It is a small town with a small population in a world that is low in technology. A town of cobbled streets lined with gas lanterns. The occasional carriage drawn by strange creatures with six legs and long necks. The town is far away from any of the larger population centres of the world and yet it is here where the Voidtreckers must help.

A series of strange disappearances have rocked the town. People vanishing, sometimes from the streets but more recently from their own homes. To make matters worse the town is plagued by ghosts, invisible yet dangerous. They attack by manipulating the environment, throwing knives, tables and even people across a room. The town has descended into chaos and are in desperate need of help.

Team One

There has been some investigation into the missing people and there have been rumours of cries for help in the woods.

A thick, dark, slightly scary woods. The townspeople who are left have lanterns to borrow and promises that the path is safe and easy to follow. Don't worry about that howling, it's just the wind...

Team One must make their way through the woods to find the missing townspeople. Unfortunately for the Voidtreckers the cries and calls for help don't come from the safe paths and so they must move through the undergrowth to find the lost and confused townspeople. What's that creaking noise? Is that a shadow? What lurks in the bushes?

Team Two

Back in the village team two must try and help the villagers who are plagued by ghosts. The ghosts roam around unhindered by walls or doors. Sometimes they are just mischievous, blowing out lanterns, knocking books off shelves. Other times they are violent, throwing objects, throwing people, locking people in or out of their houses.

Protecting people against invisible enemies is no easy task. Help the town gather together, set up barricades, try and hide any dangerous objects before they can be used against the townspeople.

Or perhaps try out some traditional ghostbusting techniques. What harm can it do?

Team Three

Of course all this must have been caused by something. It seems some of the towns teenagers had found a strange cave in their ramblings not a week before. It had been full of strange objects, small gems, daggers, ancient books.

All the sort of things that probably should not be taken from their ancient resting place but of course someone had taken something. Maybe. Few of the teenagers are willing to talk and those that do are unwilling to get their friends into trouble.

Investigate, try and convince them to do the right thing. Round up the items that have been taken and return them to the cave. Hopefully that will end this nightmare!

Team Three~

Eight was getting annoyed by the persistent vague answers herself. She was asked to go with on the premise that someone closer to their age would get them to open up. No dice. Perhaps it was the tentacle hair. Perhaps it was her three-and-a-half-foot red-skinned partner. Or perhaps they were just jerks.

Her eyebrow quirks a bit at that last bit though. These teens... they were human, right...? So, what if...

She nudges the goblin with her knee to get his attention. Once earned, she motions to the kids with her eyebrows. For this to work, he'd have to catch on... "Wait... what do you mean that stuff was violently haunted?!"

"Well, something stirred things up real quick. Cursed loot 'll do that." Alfred shrugs, although he raises his voice a little as he answers. He thinks he follows her ploy - don't press the kids directly, just give them enough information to appropriately frighten themselves into helping. "Tell you what, I wouldn't want to have any of that haunted crap in my house. There's not much you can do to keep ghosts away when the ghost's vessel is behind your wards with you."

That wasn't quite it yet, but perhaps she was being too vague. That's okay, she'll just have to make the plan a little more apparent. "B-But, I took some of that and brought it with us!! You don't think anything bad could happen to me-EEE???" A flip of her tentacle across her face draws her eyes to it.

"W-W-WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FUR?! IT'S... IT'S... MOVING!!" Unfortunately, Eight is no actress. While she has the volume, the emotional expression is a bit... flat.
itwasonetime: (Are you listening? This is important.)

Look, he's an alchemist, not a mind reader.

Alfred sighs - he wouldn't claim to be any great talent at acting, either, but "put-upon voice of reason" is familiar enough of a role. Unfortunately. "You're fine, if it's just messing with your hair, things haven't gotten too bad yet," he points out. "It'll probably get worse though. Ghosts really don't like having their stuff taken, generally speaking."

While she isn't the best at acting panic does come easily to Octarians. "It gets worse...?! How could it get worse..."

Suddenly she rushes to to Alfred. "Urgh... I don't feel so good." No sooner did she say this than her skin begins to turn a bright magenta. She looks over to the boys. "You need to save yourself! You need to get rid of it! Before--! Before--!" And before she could finish those words Alfred would find himself holding onto a rather large magenta octopus..
itwasonetime: (What was that?)

"Eight, panicking won't help-" he mock-protests, dutifully trying to play the part of the reasonable one as she flails dramatically. He staggers a little at the sudden weight as she transforms, but catches his balance without dropping her in the road; maybe it helps she's still pretty well equipped to hold onto him.

He's pretty sure that, whatever she actually is, this was a voluntary transformation - the timing was too good, otherwise - but he can't help muttering a quick, "You ok?" before turning his attention back to their teenage audience. And it's definitely an audience now, the boys not even trying to act like they aren't paying attention.

"Not to tell you how to live your lives, but if you did take something I'd advise you take it back as soon as possible," he says - seriously, almost lecturing. "Pretty sure she's not fooling around here? She did just turn into an octopus."

Eight is making this as grand as she can, flailing her arms around (while keeping two arms firmly grasped around his arms, just in case). While she doesn't stop flailing she does take a moment to give Alfred a quick wink to clue him in that yes, she's fine.

Listening over to his lecture, she has to keep herself from giggling but says in a straight tone. "Help. Help. I am an octopus! I'm going to be okay, right?" Hopefully the theatrics will be convincing to get the boys to change their ways, or at the very last be a little more forthcoming with their answers.
itwasonetime: (You don't want to drink this.)

"Probably? I mean, weird shit happens when you steal from ghosts. I do not have an anti-ghost-curse medicine I can give you," Alfred sighs. If he's honest, the flailing is a little obnoxious to try and hold onto, but her physical acting is probably more convincing than her verbal protests so he's not about to complain.

"Do you remember what you took? The fewer trips we have to make into the woods the better," he adds, and then, aside to the teens, "Could take a bunch of stuff back at the same time, actually, if anyone else has some cursed forest treasure they want to unload. I don't actually care who took what, as long as it gets back where it belongs."

URK--she hadn't thought the backstory through well enough. Uh... think quickly. Think quickly. "It was a coin! A really pretty shiny coin that had an etching of an octo--GASP!" The gasp was overblown, but considering the story it hopefully at least sounded legitimate.
