Test Drive 017

Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!

1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.

3. Have lots of fun. Mandatory, mod-sanctioned fun.

Happy testing!

Pumpkin Patch

It seems the ingredient of the month is pumpkins. The store room is full of them, in all sort of sizes all ready to be made into delicious meals. Pumpkin soup, roasted pumpkin seeds, stuffed pumpkin, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pie. All the recipes are on the ICP and are easy enough to follow, even for those who have never seen a pumpkin before in their life.

Get cooking or perhaps passengers from worlds with Halloween festivals wish to carve the pumpkins first, creating grotesque faces or fancy works of art.

Hopefully no one eats a masterpiece!

Movie Wars

The Cinema carriage is as tall as a double carriage, but has only the one floor. Instead it features sloped seating. To enter the carriage from the sleeper carriage side you must first go upstairs. You enter at the top of the carriage, in the centre aisle with paired seating sloping downwards on either side. On the opposite wall there is a large screen and there is a door to the left of the screen once you get to ground level, to allow you into the next carriage.

On the right of the screen there is an ICP and in this carriage it has a catalogue of films and TV series. There are hundreds to chose from.

Hundreds of films to chose from and hundreds of passengers to share it with. Choosing what to watch can be difficult, agreeing what to watch can be impossible.

Are they a fan of Merry Little Voidtrain- the long running cartoon series about a Voidtrain and captain Kheli. Or perhaps a hard hitting drama about cross alien-species romance. Or an action film? A heal tapping musical about robot mice?

Choose a film, try not to argue, grab some popcorn and hope your fellow cinema goers understand cinema etiquette...

Spookstown

A series of mysterious events have struck a small town. The Voidtreckers are in need of help.

The train has brought the Voidtreckers to the town of Carcel. It is a small town with a small population in a world that is low in technology. A town of cobbled streets lined with gas lanterns. The occasional carriage drawn by strange creatures with six legs and long necks. The town is far away from any of the larger population centres of the world and yet it is here where the Voidtreckers must help.

A series of strange disappearances have rocked the town. People vanishing, sometimes from the streets but more recently from their own homes. To make matters worse the town is plagued by ghosts, invisible yet dangerous. They attack by manipulating the environment, throwing knives, tables and even people across a room. The town has descended into chaos and are in desperate need of help.

Team One

There has been some investigation into the missing people and there have been rumours of cries for help in the woods.

A thick, dark, slightly scary woods. The townspeople who are left have lanterns to borrow and promises that the path is safe and easy to follow. Don't worry about that howling, it's just the wind...

Team One must make their way through the woods to find the missing townspeople. Unfortunately for the Voidtreckers the cries and calls for help don't come from the safe paths and so they must move through the undergrowth to find the lost and confused townspeople. What's that creaking noise? Is that a shadow? What lurks in the bushes?

Team Two

Back in the village team two must try and help the villagers who are plagued by ghosts. The ghosts roam around unhindered by walls or doors. Sometimes they are just mischievous, blowing out lanterns, knocking books off shelves. Other times they are violent, throwing objects, throwing people, locking people in or out of their houses.

Protecting people against invisible enemies is no easy task. Help the town gather together, set up barricades, try and hide any dangerous objects before they can be used against the townspeople.

Or perhaps try out some traditional ghostbusting techniques. What harm can it do?

Team Three

Of course all this must have been caused by something. It seems some of the towns teenagers had found a strange cave in their ramblings not a week before. It had been full of strange objects, small gems, daggers, ancient books.

All the sort of things that probably should not be taken from their ancient resting place but of course someone had taken something. Maybe. Few of the teenagers are willing to talk and those that do are unwilling to get their friends into trouble.

Investigate, try and convince them to do the right thing. Round up the items that have been taken and return them to the cave. Hopefully that will end this nightmare!

"Hm?"

Taichi looked up, as if snapped out of his own ruminations. He raised an eyebrow, and nodded. "Yeah, I suppose you're right. I didn't ask many questions, but... this isn't the first time I've been called to help with some big, mysterious goal, I guess."

Ken nods sagely. "That's certain."

In fact - wouldn't Taichi-senpai have more experience with this kind of situation than Ken? Ken was only pulled into the Digital World once, and that was for a solo adventure. All other times he's gone, it's been of his own volition.

So now it's his turn to awkwardly try and figure out how to phrase something. Taichi is still his Chosen Children elder, even if he isn't physically, right now....

....Though, wait. Ken puts a hand to his chin.

Daisuke may have mentioned that Ken does this. It's a different kind of mental departure than Koushirou's analysis. Koushirou thinks about the world. Ken's gaze is turned inside himself.

Wormmon takes the whole popcorn container and passes it to Agumon - it sure was lucky Ken-chan decided to split their popcorn into two servings to begin with. The humans are having a serious conversation, but he has faith in Ken-chan. His partner can take all the time he needs to think about whatever he's thinking about. He'll come to a good conclusion.

So. "Here. You dropped your snacks."

None of this went unnoticed by Taichi. Ken had been talking to him, and then gone into deep thought, complete with his hand on his chin, in the middle of a conversation. Immediately, his mind went to something he remembered Daisuke said to him a while back.

"Ken?" he said. "You're doing that think Daisuke talks about. Where you have something to say and go inside your own head, right?"

Taichi doesn't know Ken as well as he'd like, but he's thick as thieves with Daisuke. Something of an unfair advantage.

Agumon blinks, and then smiles. "Thank you...!" he said, taking the popcorn. After that, he looked over at Taichi and Ken, and said quietly:

"... I sure hope those two can help each other."

Zechs just reacted, dropping back as Koumyou stepped forward to intercept the projectile. Predictably, the villagers weren't reacting well. His voice was commanding, and steady - in times like this, there was comfort in a firm sense of authority.

"Stay together, stay down." Zechs made certain nobody bolted from the group. "The priest has this."

Though if anything got past the man, he'd block the projectile with his sword or body. Zechs was chiefly concerned with the opposite side of their group from Koumyou - the priest simply couldn't be in two places at once.

[personal profile] its_dad_sanzo 2020-10-26 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That Koumyou couldn't be in two places at once was technically true. At least, not without pulling out the big guns.

But he was starting to dial into the faint disruption of chi that marked an attacking ghost's location. It was like something invisible but solid sticking out of the water in a stream -- he couldn't see the ghosts, but he was starting to see the disruption in flow.

Only when the ghosts attacked, alas. Koumyou supposed it was their expenditure of energy to throw solid things that actually caused the ripple.

Still, he was very fast on his feet, and terribly nimble. As soon as something started to float, Koumyou was on his way, at one point vaulting over the huddled group of civilians. When he couldn't reach the projectile in time, it was up to Zechs, the priest sometimes prioritizing the ghost instead of the weapon.

When it was over and nothing had levitated for a few seconds, the priest straightened up out of his stance and ran a hand over his own hair. "Phew! Well, I for one am definitely awake now!"

"It must have been hard," he says quietly. Takato couldn't even imagine what it would be like to look at Guilmon and know that all of their memories together were gone.

"It'll be okay." Wormmon does his best to sound wise and sage. The jury is out on whether his voice is capable of such a tone, but an effort is made.

Ken, caught in the act, blinks and comes back to reality. That thing Daisuke...?

...So it's an obvious enough habit that Daisuke talked about it when they were in middle school. "Oh, excuse me."

Is it all right to ask this? He won't know unless he does. "The truth is, I've been wondering...how much I should tell you. About the future."

If it comes up. Taichi-senpai is clearly concerned about something, and if he explained what that something was, as long as it wasn't train-related, Ken would be able to tell him how things turn out. But should he? Will anything he tells Taichi-senpai have a ripple effect on the future? There must be a reason for them to be the ages they're at, and he's fine with moving forward and waiting to discover what that is, but in the meantime...

"Changing the future" is a big risk.

"It was..." Taichi said, his voice trailing off. After a minute, he sighed, and added, "But it's also what a Chosen Child has to do. We've always had to make difficult decisions"

Agumon blinked a few times, before nodding. "It will... Taichi always pulls through afterall!"

Taichi, meanwhile, also blinked. And then a few more times. And then he just stared, before sitting back and shaking his head.

"Oooooh-kay, that's way different from what I was assuming. I'm not really sure what to say to that."

Eight is making this as grand as she can, flailing her arms around (while keeping two arms firmly grasped around his arms, just in case). While she doesn't stop flailing she does take a moment to give Alfred a quick wink to clue him in that yes, she's fine.

Listening over to his lecture, she has to keep herself from giggling but says in a straight tone. "Help. Help. I am an octopus! I'm going to be okay, right?" Hopefully the theatrics will be convincing to get the boys to change their ways, or at the very last be a little more forthcoming with their answers.

"It's better than coffee," Zechs quipped. Nothing like a fight to get one's blood pumping, after all. But there's no real time to chit-chat - he had to make certain their flock of civilians were all right, and get them moving again. He wasn't exactly good at gentle but he could be patient, and of course he was commanding.

It didn't seem like they had any serious injuries, just a bit of a scare - so he got the train moving. When they'd finally return to the village, it'd be too soon.

"I suppose so. Maah, I could really use some tea right now, though..."

And a smoke.

Koumyou went back to wandering along with the group, but this time he mostly stuck near the front where he could talk to Zechs.

"We should get tea after this!"

[personal profile] psychopinesis 2020-10-27 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Pumpkins!

[Cooking is not Neku's forte. Given a choice, he would absolutely survive entirely on fast food and premade conbini meals. And in a way, has actually done just that, if 'surviving' is the proper term to use.

This is the reason he has a pumpkin in front of him and is staring at it like it might try to eat him instead.]

So what exactly am I supposed to do with this?

[Help?]

Movies

Man, who picks these movies?

[He's not watching anything...yet. He's at the ICP, scrolling through the available titles, but nothing really sounds appealing. Judging from the descriptions, at least half of the titles he's gone sound ridiculous at best and boring at worst.

He finally settles on some sort of superhero movie. It'll at least have cool fight scenes...hopefully.]

Spooktown

[Neku's not afraid of ghosts.

Well, maybe he's a little more afraid of ghosts than he lets on, but once you've essentially been a ghost for a while, you sort of see restless spirits in a new light.]

If the spirits are messing with stuff, they might be trying to tell you something. Like--

[He cuts himself off as a knife on a table he'd been leaning against suddenly lifts itself into the air and throws itself across the room, missing his arm by inches and embedding itself into the wall.]

--maybe take the hint and get out!?
itwasonetime: (You don't want to drink this.)

"Probably? I mean, weird shit happens when you steal from ghosts. I do not have an anti-ghost-curse medicine I can give you," Alfred sighs. If he's honest, the flailing is a little obnoxious to try and hold onto, but her physical acting is probably more convincing than her verbal protests so he's not about to complain.

"Do you remember what you took? The fewer trips we have to make into the woods the better," he adds, and then, aside to the teens, "Could take a bunch of stuff back at the same time, actually, if anyone else has some cursed forest treasure they want to unload. I don't actually care who took what, as long as it gets back where it belongs."
itwasonetime: (Alfred the Poisoner)

Pumpkins

[personal profile] itwasonetime 2020-10-27 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on how ambitious you are, I suppose. [Alfred pauses, thoughtful, elbow-deep in a pumpkin of his own. He hadn't really been planning on carving a lantern himself - it strikes him as kind of a waste of good gourd, when he knows a method or two of warding against spirits that doesn't require an entire pumpkin - but...] Or how festive.
psychopinesis: (well not exactly)

[personal profile] psychopinesis 2020-10-27 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not great at cooking, if that's what you mean.

[Though he's at least figured out what he should do. But it also looks...messy.]

Festive?
consider8: (Assess)

[personal profile] consider8 2020-10-27 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
URK--she hadn't thought the backstory through well enough. Uh... think quickly. Think quickly. "It was a coin! A really pretty shiny coin that had an etching of an octo--GASP!" The gasp was overblown, but considering the story it hopefully at least sounded legitimate.
itwasonetime: (Are you listening? This is important.)

[personal profile] itwasonetime 2020-10-27 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
D'you not celebrate All Hallow's or Samhain where you come from? Mid-autumn, kind of a harvest festival where metaphysical boundaries go all wobbly? [Maybe more literally around Alfred's home than in some regions, but he knows in his world it's observed in more stable areas even if the precautions aren't really necessary.]
psychopinesis: (so what you're saying is)

[personal profile] psychopinesis 2020-10-27 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I've...never heard of those. There's Tsuki-mi, but I don't think pumpkins have anything to do with it.
itwasonetime: (Master and apprentice)

[personal profile] itwasonetime 2020-10-27 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not surprising, I guess. Different worlds.

Anyway. Some folk figure that carving a face into a vegetable and putting a light inside for a lantern makes for a good warding against wandering spirits. Me, I figure some well-placed salt or maybe a strategic course of running water does the job just fine, but... [He shrugs.] I suppose old Jack o' Lantern is more decorative.

"I'm sorry." Reflex. And then, contemplation.

But it's worth prying, isn't it? If it helps their situation make sense. He isn't close to Taichi-senpai like Daisuke is. And he can't help but be...

Oh. He's curious. Other people's opinions of him still matter to him this much, then. Or is it - Taichi-senpai's opinion of him matters. Why? Because they're from the same world (if not the same time) on a train full of new experiences?

No. Ken admires Taichi-senpai. But that same admiration may have lulled him into not seeing the other Chosen Child as a person with struggles. Ken can fix that, though.

Now that he's realized it, he has to.

"May I ask what you were expecting?"

Zechs glanced at him - he's still keeping an eye out for any wayward flying objects - but he's pretty certain by now that Koumyou had some magic thing he did to help see those coming. Reflexes like that during battle came from having some sort of advanced knowledge - Zechs would know.

"Tea would be lovely," Zechs agreed, though his tone was still a little dry. He nodded again, "Thank you once more for your help."

zechs_isonfire: (why did you do that)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-10-27 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Unlike the boop on the nose - which, what - Zechs managed to dodge the hair ruffle. And looked at Koumyou like he'd grown a second head.

"Now I'm having second thoughts," Zechs quipped.
