She would've appeared something else; though the subject of her study was of the supernatural, nothing in her appearance or manner gave the impression of a woman prone to dreaming or flights of fancy. Even in the assigned clothes provided, she's put together and her hair's up in sleek braid-not even a crease. Her age could be anywhere from forty to fifty years old, given the serious look in her eyes, but it's obvious to anyone that she's extremely fit, with well-defined arm muscles, and scars from abrasions or burns.
Add into that her choice of words, Sherlock would agree she was a professional (of some sort) who wasn't to be trifled with.
Right now though, she's observing the beings as he is, with a look that's almost amused. "In my experience, what constitutes as 'alive' and 'not alive' is something of a grey area."
And by the way she said it, there was a lot of experience and the grey area was the size of a football field.
