Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

What to do on a train.

The problem with trains is you are unable to get off them. Whilst hurtling through an ever changing void that’s probably a good thing all told but it can lead to boredom. Or at least it does if you don’t think creatively enough!

What can you do in a standard coach? Well the obvious, most practical use is a comfy place to sit, in relative solitude as long as no one sits too close. Read a book if you’ve the points to buy one, or write in your journal.

But thinking outside the box a standard coach is also a pretty good climbing course, up and down over the rows of seats, there’s even gaps under the seats if you want to add to the challenge. Or you could just play the floor is lava.

Escorting Dralite

Dralite: Small, bat like creatures. As chicks they are about the size of a beach ball, however it soon becomes apparent that they are predominantly made of wings. Unfurled the creature is tiny with massive wings, spanning a meter long each. It is obvious why they need an escort, they cannot yet fly and their movement is severely hampered by their disproportionate wing size. They will happily cling to any friendly creatures.

Adult dralite are about the size of a sheep with large wings and large claws. They are teritorial but not overtly hostile unless provoked.

Dralite have a screech that will floor most creatures, knocking them down disoriented. As chicks their screech will stun, giving them time to escape from danger.

This world has a sizable colony and a group of humans who preserve and look after the huge dralite nests. However it seems like a group of chicks have gone missing, poachers are suspected, probably planning on selling the chicks off world.

Team One Is to track down the missing dralite. There are clues, footprints, other tracks and rumours of an unauthorised camp of humans in the area. Follow the tracks, check out the camp, see if you can find who took the dralite chicks and where they are being kept.

Team Two Is to rescue the chicks by any means necessary. Be that sneaking in and stealing them back or bursting in to challenge the poachers and put an end to their operation once and for all.

Team Three The remaining chicks still need looked after, especially with many of the volunteers helping hunt down the missing ones. They are needy creatures that cannot mover very far on their own so rely on clinging to other species to get around. You might just find yourself with a new dralite hat or cloak clinging to you, trying to get comfy. They shriek whenever they are afraid or don’t get their way and are likely to wrap their wings around your head if things get too scary. Good luck!

Around the Campfire

Once the chicks are back safe and sound it is time for a celebration. A huge BBQ and campfire is set up for a tasty feast. Just remember to share the meat with your new dralite friends or they will get sad and sulky and that could lead to trouble.

There’s lots of food and afterwards the dralite conservationists will tell stories around the fire, inviting the trekkers to do the same. Wanting to know of the different worlds they have been to, the adventures they’ve been on. Or if real life tale telling is not for you then they will settle for a good ghost story.

"Are you seriously letting your parent dictate what you want to be?" He raises the other eyebrow at her. Pot. Kettle

"And you really aren't giving off evil vibes at all Miss Prickly Witch."

"Keep calling me that," she threatened, crossing her arms. "And you'll see how rotten I can be."

He laughs.

"Well we haven't exchanged names, and I did need something to call you." He shifts to sit up and bow slightly, Japanese style. "Kuroba Kaito... well, you would say Kaito Kuroba, I think. Last name second, right? Pleased to meet you!"

She gave him a confused look. "Wouldn't last name be... last?" She shook her head. "I'm Mal." Nice and simple.

"In Japan we use do it the other way around." He says cheerfully. "It's a cultural thing. We read in a different direction too. Hi Mal!"

"Then why is it still called last?" Oh, so they read from up to down like Lonnie's parents? Cool, she supposed.

"Huh." He pauses, considering. "That's a good question. I wonder if it's a translation issue. In English class we say it that way, but I think I'd normally call it 'family' name."

[mal_contented]

"And yet you called it last here," she pointed out.

[stealsyourheart]

"Coz I'm speaking English." He grins at her. "Well. I assume I'm speaking English. This is a weird magic train going through someplace called the void, for all I know I'm actually speaking to you through some sort of universal translator."

"Kind of guessing that's the case," she said with a shrug. "But I'm not the tech one, you'd have to ask Carlos."

"Can you tell if it's magic?" He asks curiously.

[mal_contented]

She shrugged. "I can do magic, but it is kind of against the law, so it isn't like I've had a whole lot of classes in it. Just learning from whatever is in my spellbook."

"Against the law?" He blinks at her. "So are you from a world where Magic is Evil and is that the scenario?"

[mal_contented]

She snorted. "Magic is about as evil as cellphones are. It's about how they're used. But a photo on zappchat might ruin a few lives. Magic can do so much worse. So it was outlawed. Even though it can be just simply useful." And was a big part of her fight with Ben before she left.

"That seems a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater." He raises an eyebrow.

"I mean. Akako's ... evil, mostly, but she's helped me out sometimes too. Admittedly mostly because she wants me to fall in love with her, but she has helped. I'd think that it's more about who uses it, wouldn't it be?"

[mal_contented]

She nodded. "And King Beast thought people apparently couldn't be trusted. Never mind he was locking away the villains separately. Never mind how many forces for good like Merlin and Fairy Godmother and Genie relied on magic." She shrugged, but it bothered her. A lot. Just no need for this stranger to see that.

He frowns.

"That is an unjust system but moreso, a really stupid one. I mean sure, villains should be punished. But there's a difference between that and sealing something away entirely."

[mal_contented]

"Oh, magic was only sealed away for the villains. Everyone else, apparently making it a law was expected to be enough." And disturbingly, confusingly, it seemed to be. For everyone but her.

He raises an eyebrow.

"Uh. Last I checked, villains don't exactly play by the law. That seems to be extremely likely to go boom in someone's face."

[mal_contented]

"That is why they were sealed on the Isle. THEY weren't given the chance to behave or not. And frankly, not all of them needed magic to be a problem."

"In my experience, villains don't need magic at all." He says dryly.

"Ah, the Sealed Evil In A Can trick. Let me guess. Things went Boom?"

[mal_contented]

"Some do, some don't. But... actually no. In twenty years, only one major escape. Every other small issue was handled quietly. And even the one major escape... well my mother isn't going to be cursing anyone anytime soon..."

"That's... impressive, actually. I suppose I should be glad your mom never met Akako, then!"

[mal_contented]

"Only if you care about Akako," she said, blandly.

He huffs a laugh.

"Well. Akako may be a witch, but she's our witch, as the saying goes. She's been helpful a time or two! And you gotta look after your classmates, I guess! She's not that bad that I'd want her in real trouble."
