Test Drive Meme 003

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

What to do on a train.

The problem with trains is you are unable to get off them. Whilst hurtling through an ever changing void that’s probably a good thing all told but it can lead to boredom. Or at least it does if you don’t think creatively enough!

What can you do in a standard coach? Well the obvious, most practical use is a comfy place to sit, in relative solitude as long as no one sits too close. Read a book if you’ve the points to buy one, or write in your journal.

But thinking outside the box a standard coach is also a pretty good climbing course, up and down over the rows of seats, there’s even gaps under the seats if you want to add to the challenge. Or you could just play the floor is lava.

Escorting Dralite

Dralite: Small, bat like creatures. As chicks they are about the size of a beach ball, however it soon becomes apparent that they are predominantly made of wings. Unfurled the creature is tiny with massive wings, spanning a meter long each. It is obvious why they need an escort, they cannot yet fly and their movement is severely hampered by their disproportionate wing size. They will happily cling to any friendly creatures.

Adult dralite are about the size of a sheep with large wings and large claws. They are teritorial but not overtly hostile unless provoked.

Dralite have a screech that will floor most creatures, knocking them down disoriented. As chicks their screech will stun, giving them time to escape from danger.

This world has a sizable colony and a group of humans who preserve and look after the huge dralite nests. However it seems like a group of chicks have gone missing, poachers are suspected, probably planning on selling the chicks off world.

Team One Is to track down the missing dralite. There are clues, footprints, other tracks and rumours of an unauthorised camp of humans in the area. Follow the tracks, check out the camp, see if you can find who took the dralite chicks and where they are being kept.

Team Two Is to rescue the chicks by any means necessary. Be that sneaking in and stealing them back or bursting in to challenge the poachers and put an end to their operation once and for all.

Team Three The remaining chicks still need looked after, especially with many of the volunteers helping hunt down the missing ones. They are needy creatures that cannot mover very far on their own so rely on clinging to other species to get around. You might just find yourself with a new dralite hat or cloak clinging to you, trying to get comfy. They shriek whenever they are afraid or don’t get their way and are likely to wrap their wings around your head if things get too scary. Good luck!

Around the Campfire

Once the chicks are back safe and sound it is time for a celebration. A huge BBQ and campfire is set up for a tasty feast. Just remember to share the meat with your new dralite friends or they will get sad and sulky and that could lead to trouble.

There’s lots of food and afterwards the dralite conservationists will tell stories around the fire, inviting the trekkers to do the same. Wanting to know of the different worlds they have been to, the adventures they’ve been on. Or if real life tale telling is not for you then they will settle for a good ghost story.

"Oh, my God. First Venom names all his dralites, and then Peter names his. Now you're feeding them. We're never going to be rid of them, Miles," Gwen says, tone serious, but the half-smile on her face teasing.

She sits down with Miles, leaning her back on a log and stretching a leg out, the other tucked under herself.

"Seriously, that train has no room for pets."

"Why do you want to be rid of them, Gwen?" Miles questions and shoots her an easy smile before feeding another one. "Now that you mention it, maybe I should name a few too."

He glances back at Gwen again after the piece of food was gone.

"A few couldn't be that bad?"

"Are you gonna clean up after it?" Cuz there's really nowhere for it to go, you know. She takes a bite of her food and stares at a Dralite that's looking from her to her food and back again.

"No."

More glancing back and forth.

"I mean it."

Another glance and a faint chirp from the Dralite. She turns to look at Miles and shoots him something roughly equivalent to the look she had on her face when his hand was shaved off of her head. Roughly in that it holds no actual anger, but this is clearly his fault.

"Plus they eat a lot more than our train can manage. And they get so big."

Miles rolls his eyes as he leans back a little. She's not wrong but still the thought is nice to entertain even if it's really not feasible. He feeds the dralite that she's not feeding, though.

"I know, I know. But wouldn't they make it a bit more interesting?"

And he still thinks they're cute.

"I'll give you that," Gwen says after a moment, watching as the Dralite she was trying to ignore climbs into her lap. This now means Gwen is eating with her plate held over her head, looking at the baby creature thing with confusion.

"However, consider this; right now as babies, their screech is disorienting. Meant to scare predators away, right?" She turns to look at Miles, tilting her head back to do so.

"Imagine how bad it is as adults. You ever watch Harry Potter?" Think of the Mandrakes, Miles. The baby mandrakes knocked poor Neville out, the adults are so much worse.

Miles looks amused at how intent Gwen is on not feeding the Dralite or give it any attention but also he supposes that might be the smartest thing to do. He offers the said Dralite some food, though, because really, do they want it to get distressed at not being fed? He doesn't think so.

"I know, I know, but that doesn't mean I can't wish."

There's just not a whole lot of comforts on the train really. His standards are apparently much lower than they used to be. "Mandrakes weren't nearly as cute, though."

This Dralite will not be deterred from it's desire for food. It climbs up on top of Gwen's head, and then up her arms and Gwen sighs in mild defeat, closing her eyes tightly as tiny Dralite feet get too close to her eyes.

This is just...not how she wanted to spend her evening. At all.

"No, the mandrakes were ridiculously hideous." Give her a second. There's now a Dralite foot almost in her mouth. She turns her head away with a mumbled 'god damn it, knock it off!' and finally, the Dralite is in her food.

Which Gwen sets down next to her. She's not angry. There's more food on the train and the people they helped have certainly stocked their kitchens as thanks.

"You know, after you got me home," and she'll be forever grateful for that. "I wasn't sure I was going to see you again. I'm glad you're here."

Miles is kind of amused just watching Gwen struggle so hard to deny the dralite and yet it still gets what it wants in the end. He doesn't say anything about it and she's not particularly that upset about it, he can tell. He picks at his food, though. It'd probably be easier not to get attached if these things were as hideous as mandrakes.

But they were cute.

"I wasn't sure either. I was hoping somehow..." Miles shrugs, he hadn't been hoping for this, though. He's not super thrilled with this but he's trying not to complain.
