Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

Training Gym

Fight club have finally gotten a gym to train in. Train carriages make strange gyms, long narrow spaces. But this has mats, balance beams, climbing apparatus. Pads and training dummies for punching. It also has large blocks that look a little like what you might find in a children's play centre but can be used to make obstacle courses or provide cover in training exercises.

Set up a course, practice fighting or try and learn how to throw a punch! There are plenty who will help, people who take training super seriously and let's face it, people who want to ambush others from behind oversized foam blocks.

Games

For those for whom fighting is not an idea of fun, or those wanting more relaxation, the games carriage has a whole collection of different games. Board games, card games, dice games. There are many games about trains but they aren't the only type.

There are low tables in the carriage to set a game up on and plenty of beanbags and cushions to sit on. Grab a game, grab a friend or a complete stranger and get playing!

Water Maze

The latest mission has taken the voidtreckers to an underwater maze. They have been given wet suits, helmets and breathing apparatus- lightweight boxes that strap to their back, connect to their helmet and filter air from the water. A powerful and dangerous artifact has been stolen and the race is on to get it back before it is used for ill.

Team One

Plenty of monsters and foes have been sent to try and retrieve the item. Giant crabs, strange eels. Even people with fish tails and the ability to breathe underwater. All are dangerous foes and fighting underwater is difficult.

But team one are the vanguard, keeping the monster levels low to allow team two to push on through the maze.

Team Two

Hopefully team one will deal with the monsters, but the odd one might sneak through. Team two's main job is to solve the maze, because the thief is in the centre in order to perform his ritual.

It's a race against time, the maze is made of coral and walls of seaweed that are impossible to cut through. Solving it requires a quick mind and some determined swimming.

Team Three

For those not wishing to brave the water, or those whose skills lie more in helping others. The island where the artefact was stolen from needs help. The temple was ransacked and some of the islanders were injured. Help them fix their homes, put the temple back to rights, tend to the injured.

Cleaning the temple is a big job, but hopefully by the time the artefact has been retrieved it will be able to be restored to it's rightful place.

Amethyst gives a snort. "Yeah, I've done this before, but I've got it- Woah!"

The crab pulls its claws to the side as she's distracted, which drags Amethyst closer to the creature. So she does end up catching some flare off from the blast of energy.

"...I had it."

[ She jumps a bit when Amethyst first transforms, then blinks at the die that's staring up at her. All right. ]

Well...I guess that works for a little while. But I doubt you'd want to be like that all day.

...data of what?

[ That doesn't slow her down - just stops her, glancing over her shoulder.

Just in case it's anything too personal. Then she can beat him up and burn his notebook, probably. ]

Oh. Well, that's actually rather remarkable.

[He's particularly pleased that she explained something seemingly paranormal in scientific terms. That's promising!]

Does everyone have that kind of ability, where you're from?

If you know and you're asking anyway, you're wasting my time. If you don't know, you're just proving my point.

[At least they... Almost had a quarter of a conversation go well? I mean yeah, tbh.]

Well, not usually the same ability. Some people have the gene for extraordinary abilities - we call it the X-gene - but how it manifests in the individual is kind of random.

Some people can have similar abilities, like telepathy, for example. But generally the ability manifests in different ways.

[He's going to count that as her being interested. Enough that he feels he can explain a bit without wasting his breath, anyway.]

I'm curious about the motion and structure of the humans on this train compared to the, you know, normal people. [Like them.] You're serving as something of a control group.

An X-gene... Interesting.

I imagine there's a lot of research into artificially reproducing it, with the gifts it brings.

[ She frowns. She'd never actually considered that. ]

...the opposite, actually. People are afraid of it, and of the people who have it. Most people would be happy to get rid of it.

Why do you always have to make it sound like I'm an idiot?! You can't even do something nice without belittling me!

That sounds like a waste... Frankly, it's an idiotic point of view.

[Which doesn't seem to surprise him in the slightest.]

Sakura just lets out a sigh and twirls her broom, "I meant for me! I'm a lightning mage so I'm using stuff I'm not as good with."

With that she lets go of the broom, it hanging in the water in a way it shouldn't as a vast circle of magic starts to write itself in black energy around the girl's hands and she winds up to throw an even bigger bolt at the crab monster.

Because- I'm not belittling you, I'm just saying that you've never been any good at sitting still and really applying yourself to anything strictly studious.

[ That does get a laugh from her, though it's hardly a humorous one. ]

Yeah, that's what we think too.

But majority rules. So we just do our best to show people that we're not trying to harm anyone.

[Guess who has two thumbs and is avoiding chores, this kid, that's who.

Instead of doing laundry like he's supposed to be doing, Huaisang's lazily sprawled across a beanbag of his own, with a chessboard laid out in front of him. Judging from the sound of pieces sliding and tapping and they're moved around on the board, it sounds like some a match is going on. There's only the sound one person's breathing, though.

Huaisang is playing a match... against himself?

He glances over, curious, just in time to see an unfamiliar cultivator sit down and sink into the beanbag. Huaisang beams, his tone friendly and full of cheer.]

Aren't these great? I want to take one home with me! The aesthetic's kind of lumpy but they're just so comfortable.

You had no other choice! And, you wouldn't have even had that choice if you hadn't had my Oxychew!

As for you beating me at this board game, that's laughable.

[She grabs the board, slams it to the ground, then leans up to YANK on his bow-tie.]

Pyraxian / World of Warcraft OC / OTA

Games

Pyraxian is a little grateful to have a humanoid form, even if it's still fairly large by train standards. He'd never fit otherwise! And never be able to work out what ... all of this is.

Outland doesn't have a lot of game options that don't involve running and screaming, and what anyone's supposed to do with these little white cubes with black dots is absolutely eluding him at the moment. Crouched on the floor in the games car, the dragon-in-humanish-shape has collected around himself a small number of games he doesn't recognize, from a deck of cards, to some dice, to a boardgame and a whole lot of dominos that have somehow mysteriously escaped their packaging and gotten all scattered about. In spite of his size even in this form, well over seven feet and rather well muscled, it's a rather ridiculous look as he sits on his heels and prods uncertainly at said dominos.

"This doesn't look very fun to me," he rumbles. "What are you supposed to do with them? Eat them? Throw them at someone?"


Team Three

That sure is an enormous scaly black dragon helping people fix their homes.

Helping. Yes.

"Put that down!"

Ignore the panicked yelling going on. It's surely nothing.

Or maybe said enormous dragon is actively chasing people away from the stacks of lumber and logs meant for rebuilding homes, crouched over them as if they're precious gems and not ... well. Wood and logs. "I!! Will move these! You're all TINY. Tiny and small and ..." .... "Short! I am NOT."

He - and it's certainly a male dragon by the sound of his voice - preens a bit at this delcaration of his lack of shortness, then grabs the entire stack of lumber in his massive jaws, heaving it right off the ground. It crunches a bit, and the faint scent of charring begins almost immediately. With his prize now claimed, it's on to being 'helpful' in other ways! Homes need rebuilding!

[OOC notes: Pyraxian is an Outland-hatched black dragon! He's also not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and due to a lack of old gods in Outland, still has his free will.]

Well, mostly we try not to use our powers unless it's necessary. And when we do use them, we use them to help people.

[ Most people are, unfortunately, still ungrateful, though. ]

Wild Card

Sakura isn't sure what it was about this creature that pinged her worry vibes. Maybe it was the body language, maybe the watching others in creepy ways, maybe it was the fact that in the game room it didn't panic at all at that box labeled "Cards against humanity." It didn't matter, she was bored and her latest experiment was in the fridge of the dining car labeled as deadly neurotoxin, do not eat, and she needed something to kill the time. So making sure there isn't another mad scientist making an army of undead minions to take over this train thing was something to pass the time.

That being said sneaking was never her strong point. Sure she understood the theory and could teach other people to do it, but when you have hair as long as you are and a ridiculous looking almost kitty earesque head band you tend to stick out like a sore thumb. Especially if carrying around a broom handle as a rod. Still, no one was here to tell her it was a bad idea so she stalked this being.

You're right. A lot of us don't remember how we ended up here, in fact I'd say nobody does. One day we just wake up in that station and we're off to another world.

( yuna's calm about her answer and instead of biting down on the cookie, she sets it aside for now. )

I haven't been here that long either but I can try and answer questions. Did anyone tell you the purpose we're all here already?

To be fair to them, I'd been trying to get those answers for myself, first and foremost. [a touch dry:] If I couldn't get a sense of what the meaning of all this was on my own, I imagined it'd come to me whether I asked or not... And here you are, offering to help.
