Test Drive Meme 010

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Greenhouse

The newest carriage is a greenhouse.

The ceiling is a dome shape, a single metal beam runs from one end to another, mounted on this beam are large bright lights.

The aisle of grass runs down the middle, from one door to the next. Stone paths branch off around raised beds of soil. Nothing is growing yet but there are crates in which passengers can find a whole host of seeds and bulbs for various flowers.

Plenty for passengers with green fingers to do! Plant some seeds, tend to those they have planted already. Chase away people who have no idea what they are doing! Remind them they have to take the seeds out of the packet first!

If planting is a new thing then the ICP has some handy gardening tips or they can always ask their fellow Voidtreckers!

Sports Balls

For those who prefer their hobbies much more energetic then the gym's cupboard is full of balls. Balls for every sport they can imagine! The space is long and narrow which means a little bit of adapting but there is plenty of fun to be had. Start a game of football, or basket ball.

Make some new friends and get some friendly rivalry going!

Monkey Madness!

It's a strange mission to be sure but the Voidtreckers have been called to help a huge zoo tackle a problem. Every monkey enclosure has been broken open and the creatures have gotten out and into the city, where they are causing mayhem.

Team One

Though the monkeys don't pose much threat to human life they cause quite a big of damage. Team one is to try and get as many businesses and homes safe as possible. Bring things indoors, reinforce doors and windows. Warn those in the city of the incoming horde!

Team Two

Round up the monkeys! The aim is to do this without harming and luckily they have some capture devices, that can be thrown to spring straps around a creature. Bribing them is also encouraged. The city has prepared vans for the creatures to be lured or taken to. Careful though, these monkeys are cunning and mischievous and clever enough to steal the capture devices and throw them back at the Voidtreckers! Who is catching who?

Team Three

Back in the zoo there is plenty to do. First and foremost the enclosures need fixing and reinforced. Also an investigation is underway to figure out what happened and who is responsible. If DIY or investigating work is not in a passengers skill set then there are still many other animals that need fed and cleaned!

Reward time!

Soon all the monkeys are back in their proper homes and the city put back to rights! As a thank you the zoo is handing out free ice cream and a free pass to enjoy the zoo for the day.

Have fun!

"...Everyone. Everyone lives that long barring accidents, murder or illness, and two or three hundred is childhood." He's pointing again, with a now grubby dirt-finger, frowning. "The ones who live mere decades are the ones with broken souls. Yours is intact."

Fandaniel would, if he paid more attention, realize that literally everyone not from his little corner of reality had intact, unsundered souls, and lifespan varied by species. He has not been paying attention. Life span does not usually come up. "And I am an Ascian.. You may call me Fandaniel. I will.. make allowances for your considerably young age. Your mother clearly left your life far, far too early. I am sorry for your loss." The child is practically an infant. It explained a lot.

And then he's back to planting. Very gradually, the stark long shadows are easing, and the lights finally seeming able to do their job. "Vinegar is an easy way to mask unwanted scents. It is an easy go-to that one may keep in a bottle and has an added benefit of being a bit repellent to most. Otherwise, I suggest herbs such as these. Crush them and keep them on your person. Rotate what you're using once a day to prevent anyone from going nose-blind to it and your troubles should significantly ease. I will encourage the first plants, you will have to tend the rest yourself."

So many things he didn't know. Two or three hundred is childhood for Traces. Broken Souls are a thing, whatever that means. So many things Timber didn't tell him. He wonders if Timber even knew himself.

And when Fandaniel brings up his mother dying much earlier than she should, well... His face falls a little.

"Yea, it's okay... I wasn't lonely anymore when I found Timber and Dambi. So it was okay."

But his lips can't help but press into a thin line.

"Shikeo. I'm Shikeo." Since Fandaniel was kind enough to offer his name.

He makes mental note of the vinegar and using herbs. It all sounds like great advice. Timber just always used cigarettes, which he asked him time and again to stop smoking around Dambi. Herbs and vinegar sounds like a much safer, much more sane, option. He nods as he listens. And afterwards, he shifts his weight uncomfortably for a moment, looking for words.

"Look..." A pause, as he still tries to sort what he's trying to say. "I got off on the wrong foot. I'm so used to... things not being good when people smell me. I can cook. So how about I make you some potatoes... Popodoes? Afterwards."

Is that how he pronounces it? He's forgotten it already, but he's trying.

"Not like that!" Instantly shooting down that he's looking for a connection. "You know, just like... as a sorry. And a thank you."

If Fandaniel had any reasonable, rational advice on how to handle loss and grief, probably he wouldn't be involved in the nonsense he was back home. So there's nothing he can really say to that.. except that he's sure it's not really okay. Pain doesn't stop, it just gets easier.

"Popotos." He'll keep saying it right until Shikeo gets it! ".. Apologies aren't necessary." Even though he was still a bit cross about having seeds thrown at him! Those poor plants! "But I wouldn't mind seeing what you can do with a popoto. They're very versatile." Baked, fried, mashed, stuffed into things, things stuffed into them, especially cheese..!

He sets a hand over one of the new little mounds of dirt, brow furrowing.

A plant quite suddenly and without any preamble at all, sprouts with remarkable swiftness and surges to full size within seconds. Which isn't really all that tall, but there is an immediate noticeable but faint smell of mint. "One day, Shikeo, you will be able to look back on all of this and laugh at its absurdity."

"Popotos." He repeats it to himself a few times mentally, too. A nod and a half smile. "I'll give it a try, sometime. You can be my food judge. I'm sure if I ever see Dambi again, she'd love to eat more tasty things."

Shikeo's mouth drops open wide as he watches the plant burst to life in all its glory. He's never seen anything so remarkable. It was...

"Incredible!" He gets close to it, reaching out to test if it was really there, and not some odd illusion. Shikeo's face lights up with a smile. "Absurdity? This is amazing! It's wonderful!"

What an amazing ability. He wonders just how many different kinds there are out there.

"Perhaps she will turn up here, and then we can all try new things." Like these 'french fry' things he's heard rumors about. They sounded addictive, which means he had to try them sooner or later.

Probably in large batches. He'll have to grow more popotos.

The mint is definitely there, feels perfectly real, and leaves a minty scent if touched. "Ahh, one day you might see things differently." But there's something of a smile going on, and it's lacking earlier's wry bitterness. "We all have our specialties, but there's no reason to not try new things. Once you have your inherent fragments of power under control, reach out and see what else interests you. It might take time, but we all have plenty of that. I'm a bad example to follow, I've mostly stuck with plants."

He says it as if somehow Shikeo's power wasn't what it was, a fixed and specific thing. "Let's see what else there is besides mint. I'll encourage three or four, which should last a while, but you can care for the rest as they grow."
